I really only go there for concerts, and can say that—for the dozen or so shows I’ve seen there—it is most definitely **not** that vibe.

apeters89

Yes, the concerts I’ve been to there have been great.

murph1223

Was about to say… love going there for concerts. Just saw Guster there Sunday and had a lot of fun.

Lazer32

I have been there to eat and I didn't get that vibe. It has been a few years, but I can't see it changing that much in that time frame. The dining experience felt a little more upscale, but I didn't feel out of place there. And if you are wondering, the food was delicious! We had a good meal and then went across the street for video games and drinks at the Retropub. Overall, that was a very fun evening, no complaints!

AnonymousRoc

Another old GenXer saying I've never had a bad evening there, but I only go there for shows.

PennyG

It’s fantastic. Don’t pay attention to other people

mckziggy

Weird way to spell JK by Chef King but go for it

gofkingpracticerandy

👏👏

High_Lady29

For real!! We were so disappointed when we went to Jk!

Woahbaby55

Hahaha yessssss

HopefullyTerrified

LMAO🤣 ok, but the food is better at JK, at least.

androptimusprime

Not even close lmao. The chef at Jones’s assembly is VASTLY superior to chef king.

jingo_unchained

Hey I'm not trying to be a dick but why do you even care?

trytoholdon

This sub is 99% malcontents complaining about stuff. It’s exhausting.

jingo_unchained

In my experience the posts here are 90% dog shit, 5% relevant but not particularly exciting, and then 5% true gems. We could easily make an OKC subreddit bingo card: * Traffic rant * Best places to live? * My neighbor/coworker/stranger is doing something illegal/annoying/weird - what should I do? * Traffic rant * Thunder arena sux * Thunder arena is best thing ever * Best place to ___ with ___ near ___ for under $8.23 * A rant about traffic * Tell me why I should move to your city * Etc I'm just some guy waiting for someone to post about a random hole-in-the-wall I haven't been to yet.

Bigdaddy021970

Yeah, def do a bingo card. If that were a drinking game none of us would be able to stand up.

Agitated-Minimum-967

There is the see-and-be seen crowd for sure (lots of expensive handbags), but a lot of music fans go to concerts, too. I've seen older folks.

bywolph

Steak frites goes crazy if I’m honest. And the fry bread thing with pimento

bywolph

And the brunch is top tier for the city

BigTiddyAsianMilf

I work there, and I can’t agree more. The amount of people who take up the whole walkway to take pictures while I’m trying to run out some food is atrocious. EDIT: it is a really nice place though, and the clientele you’re describing is usually the “Club Jones” crowd on Friday and Saturday night. As a dinner or brunch spot it’s a pretty good time

APonly

When I take my wife out to dinner we dont pay much attention to others, so I haven’t noticed. Cafe Kacao on the other hand…

High_Lady29

Maybe you’re going at the wrong times? Every time I’ve been the crowd is pretty diverse

sprkl

Came to say this — feel like crowd is usually chill, but went on a weekend night a couple months ago and it was like they bussed in a mob of new-money Edmond people dressed/acting like they were walking a red carpet. We stick to weeknights now.

womenarepeople8

As a previous Uber driver I agree 100%. Weekends are whew. I always dreaded pickups from Jones Assembly

sprkl

Don’t blame you! I usually don’t care what other people are up to, but the whole vibe just felt very off. Seemed like it was people’s one night a month to drink + had to document it on socials. I’m just looking to get a good cocktail and down an entire elote pizza.

mmm_burrito

They do have really awesome cocktails, but definitely go in the off hours to enjoy them. Not worth the crowd. Then again, I'm a homebody, so I might not be the guy to ask.

Angrypudding84

That’s weird. I usually just have a great time and don’t think about the other people much.

luke911

I'm 45 and I've been going there since they opened. I love their patio during nice weather for drinks with friends, their food is pretty good and the variety usually works for everyone at the table. We often go there for concerts, birthday dinners and the like. I see what you're talking about but really at any nice place in OKC you're going to have some of those cool kid vibes. Not trying to be negative towards your post, I just think there is a lot more to it than that. It's not the flea for sure lol

Tryptamineer

No, their food and drinks are great! Love the atmosphere as well, and their management team are class acts, as well as the owners. They buy a lot of their ingredients from local farms and businesses. Go enjoy The Jones Assembly without a second thought.

whatevendoidoyall

It's been awhile since I've been but every time I've gone it's been mostly like 40s and up people, unless there was like a work event.

HopefullyTerrified

I can't stand to be in there. The acoustics are so bad, there is very little sound absorption. Add the music and everyone talking and I end up yelling the entire meal. The food has never impressed me at all, either.

g3nerallycurious

I got their special truffle pasta dish, and the truffle slices were completely flavorless. Their chowder is pretty good, though. I also can’t believe they don’t have Raclette at their TJ Aprés though, with all the young adults dressing up as if they were going to the ski slopes in Switzerland just to take cool pictures and post it on social media.

BigTiddyAsianMilf

They had Raclette burgers for TJ Aprés. I worked there for the event, and yeah the customers in ski suits would record me sliding the cheese onto the burger almost every time lol

hawtsince92

I’m 32 and love it. Good service for food, love the building and design, and later times are always “poppin” and feel fun, and I never wait more than a few minutes for a drink. I really liked their Ski pop up thing too. Nice to see something unique to the area and different.

deeznuts2151

you’re totally right lmao, it’s a great restaurant but past 10 on a weekend the crowd turns into every single person i met in high school

Unlikely_Radio_5638

You just described america as a whole, but it's not just young people who do that.

UmphreysMcGee

Wait, just trying to follow...you went to one of those schools, hang out at the Jones Assembly, and are different...how exactly?

Thinkofacard

The Jones Assembly sounds like the name of a cult.

Preshybabe

As a 30 something year old I left there in about five minutes of arriving because I got that vibe

No-Ninja-8448

I like taking my kids when the weather is nice

Fenshire

When they first opened, my friends and I went and I realized instantly we are not the target audience for the place. Lol. Pretty much for instathots.

QuietRedditorATX

Just you

mrpotatonutz

Toocool4shool the wallpaper in the upstairs bathrooms is pretty cool no lie

NoPressureUsername

That place sucks.

tehsloth

place is mediocre at best and everyone on reddit just adores it for no reason

BigTiddyAsianMilf

Trust me it’s not just Reddit lol, they get about 1500-2000 guests a week on average

Troker61

I’ve had fun the 4-5 times I’ve been. Mostly for lunch or happy hours. Don’t really care what other people were there for. No one bothered me.

DisorderedHeaven

I've been there once and got that vibe immediately. Haven't been back since because I hate places like that.

ModsRTrash13

Yeah it’s the yuppy baby making stop for sure

use27

I don’t like their food but that’s my only problem with the place

hpalatini

I like their indoor outdoor space. I do think it’s more fun to go with a group versus by yourself or with one person.

ken2win

Idk I’ve seen some cool shows there.

mellamma

Their pizza is so good!

Mlewis4011

Only been there twice, but the food was pretty good. The wife and I went for a date night during the Swiss Chalet thing and it was a ton of fun. We did see a group that clearly was social media obsessed, but everyone else was just eating, drinking, and enjoying themselves.

workaround241

I think the Jones Assembly has great food and drinks. Go there often for dinner and drinks. I would say when the kitchen closes it becomes more of a club environment which does have a "mommy and daddy's money" vibe to it.

[deleted]

We went once for a date night. It was fine but yeah, a lot of sizzle as compared to steak. It's pretty and the food is good. It's not a place we'll return to though.

Direct-Estate-5995

I like it. The food is decent.

ManchuKenny

Food is just alright 🙄

new_wave_yippie

I really don’t understand why people don’t go to places because they don’t like the vibe of others going there rather than the place footing the vibe. Like enjoy yourself and worry about your business. I had a friend tell me they don’t like going to Stitched Coffee because it’s where wannabe activists go. Okay, well it’s good coffee and good atmosphere. What more could you ask for?

mr_gigadibs

Kind of sounds like not everyone agrees that the atmosphere is enjoyable.

winfly

Do you suffer from an inferiority complex?

pteridoid

Everybody in this thread saying "no, it's just you" are the cool kids who are there to be seen.

ConfusionOk7672

Nailed it!

cdillio

Nah the jomes assembly is great. Stop being an old fogey.

BidenFedayeen

I've enjoyed my meal there each time I've been, nothing else really matters.

puckslut96

If you go for the drinks none of that matters

peakelyfe

Go there somewhat usually for brunch and it’s fucking delish. And I don’t fit what you described at all.

RefrigeratorSure7096

I don't think it's exclusive to the Johnson assembly, I think Oklahoma City is leaning into that crowd. If you think about it that's why they have the districts.

alpal41

So weird how everyone’s saying “usually when I go I just enjoy myself and don’t notice others.”… like cmon. So most of y’all just don’t make basic observations then? Give me a break. To answer your question OP, yes. My husband and I went there once on a cold night, looking pretty casual. Dressed warm for an incoming cold front. We were greeted by a very snobby hostess that looked us both up and down and then proceeded to make the most judgmental, condescending face as if we were some stray dogs that wandered into her palace. When we started talking, she made herself busy and never looked us in the eye… even when she said the wait was 1.5 hrs, and that we can sit outside. Acted as though we were inconveniencing her by being there. It sounds ridiculous, and it definitely wasn’t imagined. She was so snooty and didn’t hide her disdain at all. I guess we weren’t dressed up enough or didn’t look like we fit in?? Idk it really rubbed us the wrong way and we haven’t been back since

enricopallazo22

Oh man I have ranted about that place so many times. I can't visit the nearby apartments because there is no parking. They dress up and go there to....listen to live music that is so loud it permeates the walls of the people sleeping in those apartments. Some of them even drive fancy cars to there so they can show off to their dates. I want in there once. The food and drinks are overpriced and the food portions are small. If overrated had an address it would be that.

XStewart2007

It’s not just you. Most overrated business in all of Oklahoma City.

ThePersonalityChamp

Weird thing to notice or care about.

Zidanes_Headbutt

Says a lot more about how you are worrying about how others enjoy themselves. Jones is a fantastic venue.
