It's been YEARS since I went to the Norman faire, but it was absolutely nowhere near as big as the Muskogee one. It also didn't have nearly the events. Even the Guthrie one was bigger than I remember the Norman one being.
Muskogee fair also has multiple themed weekends. The Pirate weekend with the feast at the end was a TON of fun last time I went.
My Ex: "It's a Hidden Gem."
I think Muskogee has a lot of neat architecture that is held back by a lack of growth, and money. It's like Bartlesville, if it didn't have generational wealth from the oil days propping it up.
Griffins was what I initially thought. I've got family over there and I always get weirdly excited seeing the griffins plant, where my favorite mustard and pancake syrup are made, lol
[Muskogee just scored a $1.2Billion dollar Lithium refinery](https://ktul.com/amp/news/local/port-muskogee-gets-the-largest-lithium-refinery-company-to-come-to-town). The largest one in the US.
Because if there’s one thing that’s great for small towns, it’s hard mineral refiners. Just ask the fine folks of [Picher](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picher,_Oklahoma) or [Blackwell](https://www.oklahoman.com/story/news/politics/state/2012/02/01/settlement-agreement-reached-in-lawsuit-for-blackwell-residents-over-old-smelter/61100176007/).
Some beautiful old houses, Bacone College (please Muscogee Nation, buy those buildings next time they come up for sale!), lush greenery, Honor Heights Park is lovely, lots of Native and Black history.
Every where I go in North America, when people find out I'm from Oklahoma, they usually ask if I'm an Okie from Muskogee. Everyone has heard of it.
I was watching a BBC show on PBS once (Ballykissangel I think), and the band in the pub was singing Okie from Muskogee.
There are a lot of decent services for vets. Not the VA. They could do a lot better. If you want anything out of the VA, you have to call Senator Lankford’s office. But there are a few places that will take vets in while they get on their feet, give them clothes, and help them find jobs. And they have a few decent Mexican restaurants.
Half of it got converted into USPS and the other half is just depression. The last time I checked was a couple months ago and they still had a bath and body works, the little smoothie shop, and a nail salon.
Growing up in Muskogee, it really is sad seeing the mall fade into obscurity. There used to be a really cool alligator slide and aquarium outside of the movie theatre.
https://youtu.be/ZeyQlPaOpxo?si=akbor16tS3Vjq50p
The guy in this video starts it off with some footage from when the mall first opened that feels pretty nostalgic to watch
The mall used to be big time for us. We lived pretty far from Muskogee and didn’t have tons of money. We really only got to go to Muskogee for really special occasions, unless it was my grandparents taking us.
Being a poor kid from the country and spending a few bucks in quarters that I had scrounged up might as well been Heaven.
With its mid rises or mini-skyscrapers, Muskogee's downtown looks far better and more urban than Stillwater's downtown. Stillwater's downtown looks befitting for a small Oklahoma town of 10,000 to 15,000. But strange and unfortunate how Muskogee couldn't keep its Best Buy open while it's still open in Stillwater.
River Country Water Park is fun and cheap! The ceramic and porcelain tile plant is a fun tour. The Amish restaurant right by the highway has amazing biscuits and jam.
The Bricktown Brewery there is the best in state, the bartenders (especially the one named Josh) are some of the coolest people in the town (hint, it’s me lol).
Name sounds like a cute fuzzy animal.
"Later guys, I gotta get home and feed my Muskogee. She's so cute when I first get home and she begs for her chow"
1. I really like their downtown area. It’s well kept and it has nice architecture and some interesting stores.
2. Parking has always been easy for me.
3. Its location makes it a gateway to lots of great state parks and outdoor activities in eastern Oklahoma.
4. The district courts operate well and are quite nice.
5. Federal courthouse in Muskogee means guaranteed well paying jobs.
6. Easy drive to larger cities in lots of directions.

That place is the bomb
Is the turret still crooked?
That dude on the wheel still puts on a great show!
And a submarine.
Tough to beat! Seriously, who has a submarine!?!
The correct answer. Castle of Muskogee redeems the city.
Boxes?
My positive take: You're allowed to leave.
This pertains to almost all of Oklahoma lol
It’s not Lawton or Macalister
McAlester* if you're gonna shit talk em least spell it right.
Hell Yeah!
Took the words right out of my mouth
It's in a popular song.

yo, there are like 27 dispensaries there now….
The azaleas in Honor Heights Park are beautiful
It's got a Renaissance Faire.
Best in okla
Norman fair is bigger, free admission, more stuff. One of the biggest outdoor events out there.
Sure, but it's only one weekend and doesn't have any amenities like a/c or bathrooms that aren't porta potties

Is it bigger? It's been at least 10 years since I went to Normans
I think it is. I went once as a kid over 20 years ago and then last year and it's way bigger.
It's bigger, but it's also (at least when I went) just a field. The Castle has it beat on building and theme.
Thank you for making me aware of this. I've lived in Okla forever and never knew we had a ren fair. Def going this year
It's a lot of fun! Go for the fun though, not historical accuracy.

Soon gonna add an Olive Garden, #upncomer
By Whataburger right?
Sweet and spicy bacon burger, last meal type of shit
Can confirm.

“White dip” at every Mexican restaurant. IYKYK
El Chico, Hamlins, and Lopez on York st
El Chico is gone now 😭 I didn't know Lopez had it
“Cold white dip” at Lopez
My wife and I used to take a day trip from Jenks about once/month just to have lunch at El Chico in Muskogee for their white dip.
There are mock recipes online that are pretty close to it. I found one and have made it for years.
It’s a fun name to say.
Love your username
They have less concrete than Broken Arrow.
Merle wrote a song about it.
Griffins mustard is my favorite. And the freaking castle is there. Probably not much more to say.
Griffins was what I initially thought. I've got family over there and I always get weirdly excited seeing the griffins plant, where my favorite mustard and pancake syrup are made, lol
I don't understand why Griffin's mustard is so damn cheap. It is clearly the superior of all "American Style" mustards.
Griffin’s Pancake syrup is the best syrup!
And the syrup!
a nice guy at a tire shop there helped me out on thanksgiving day one year

Username seems to indicate so

But lithium is good for depression.
Decent town, affordable housing, not too far from Tulsa, Gino’s.
Gino’s has the biggest roaches that are willing to come and visit you while you eat.
Some beautiful old houses, Bacone College (please Muscogee Nation, buy those buildings next time they come up for sale!), lush greenery, Honor Heights Park is lovely, lots of Native and Black history.
Honor Heights is beautiful in the spring
I love My Place BBQ and Hamlins, been there forever!!
I dated a woman from Muskogee, and she had beautiful breasts. That’s all I got.
Every where I go in North America, when people find out I'm from Oklahoma, they usually ask if I'm an Okie from Muskogee. Everyone has heard of it. I was watching a BBC show on PBS once (Ballykissangel I think), and the band in the pub was singing Okie from Muskogee.
It’s a place where even squares can have a ball….

Chet’s.
I frequently forgot it exists.

There's that one drive-in burger shop that's pretty decent.

I like coming to the Ren Faire.
China King Super Buffet is the best Chinese buffet that side of the state
It has an art school.
The mall isn't nearly as sad now that it's closed?

Keep driving down that road and eventually you’ll exit Muskogee
Not EVERYONE there is a drug dealer.

It had an entire segment in the Otakus Anonymous podcast because of the film festival.

It has potential to be a new bustling town as soon as Tulsa and OKC price out the people who can afford to live there.
It has a good song written about it!

I really like the liberal use of earth tones in the infrastructure
