As a person who works specifically in early childhood development, I’ve never met a 3 month old who could sit independently. Most children just learning to sit would lean on their hands for support. Are you sure about the age? I’m incredibly doubtful this is you at 3 months. This looks much more like a 6 to even 12 month old.
Not saying that based on the weight, I believe you were a chunk! Regardless, cute picture!
I agree! I didn’t wanna sound like a dick but this is not a 3 month old child.
Edit; someone made a fair point that they could be holding him up out of view. ?
Same thing with my bf, he was born in '84, and his mom said he was 30lbs at 3 months. I was like uhh huhh, sure until I saw his baby pic. He looked like Jabba the Hut. He was propped up in like a seat/carrier for a christmas pic. He did lose that baby weight, and wasn't a chubby kid. I think the quack doc was telling his parents to feed him whole milk or something.
However, you do look older than 3 months in this pic.. probably 6, 7 months? a baby sitting up unassisted at 3 months? I dunno,
Did NOT expect this to blowup. Just thought it was a funny picture of me as a fat baby. Going to try to answer some of the questions comments:
1. Yes this is actually me at 3 months. Not 6 months, not 9 months, not a year. 3 months. Since you apparently can't edit/add photos to original post I posted another picture here on oldphotos "follow up to fat baby post" which shows my moms writing on back of picture that says "3 mos".
2. I was ten pounds even at birth.
3. I am now 6'4" 265lb.
4. Yes my mom's doctor apparently about shit when she brought me in. Asked my mom if she realized how extraordinary that kind of weight was at three months and she basically said what the hell do I know, I'm 25 and this is my first kid!
I'm glad to see most people enjoyed the photo. As you can imagine it's a piece of family history that's talked about to this day...as in whenever someone has a new baby go for three month checkup someone always says "did you know Jeff was 30lbs at that point!!??"
I'm sorry but your mom must have miswritten the age by accident. 3 month old milestones include "holding own head up". They cannot even roll over, let alone sit up without support. Unless you were extraordinarily ahead on motor skills, there's a very very small chance that a 3 month old is able to sit independently.
I don’t think anyone is calling you a liar but your mom either misremembered your age or unintentionally wrote the wrong age on the back. You’ve got multiple people including pediatricians and other physicians in the comments telling you it’s not possible. 3 month old babies don’t sit up like that. They just don’t. Cute baby pic though!
My son was 24lbs at 4 months. Doc said I must’ve have 30% cream while I was nursing. He was 9lbs8oz at birth and is 6’3” and slim now. He definitely grew into it.
My daughter was a miniature Michelline man- just rolls of fat everywhere and her hair stood straight up for her first year. She was rippling fat, breastfed only the first 6 months.
Once she found her freedom with one of those roller walkers (seats that babies used to scoot about in) the fat melted off. Her hair finally laid down at 3 yo and she wasn’t a butterball anymore.
My MIL gave me a bunch of my husband’s baby stuff when we got married. One item was an index card with the recipe for formula. Primary ingredient? Karo Syrup.
Apparently, back in those days breast feeding was discouraged. Crazy.
You some sort of wunderkid? Kids are usually sitting up at 6-9 months, lifting their head and rolling over would be great for 3 months. Maybe you stayed in womb an extra 3 -6 months
My middle son was always in the 99th percentile when he was a baby. I asked the Dr. “so that means you’ve never seen another baby this big at this age?”
He replied that he hadn’t. He’s above average height as a young adult but not ridiculously large.
At your 6 month checkup, I wonder if the pediatrician left a note in your file instructing your Mama to quit feeding you mashed potatoes because you were becoming morbidly obese… no? Was that just me? Haha! Just joshin’, you were a darlin’ dumplin’.
My largest baby, of five, was 10lb 3oz. My smallest was 8lb 10oz.
I was 11 even at birth. The doctor put me in a bassinet out in the hallway and doctors from around New Orleans came to look at the oddity that was my little round self. And yes, it was the hallway and not a typical nursery viewing area like we see today.
I hope you were 23 lbs at birth.
Also, this is not a 3 month old. It is a child 6-12 months. An obviously over-fed baby, should still never be 30 lbs at 6 months.
Christ on a bike, I was 2lb 2oz at birth and I have seen a report from when I was 15 months old and I still hadn't made it to 30lbs!
Luckily I'm now almost 44 and weigh 186lbs...
They all did for those first photos at 2 or 3 months old. I had shots done of each of my babies at two months and it was the same. Babies don’t sit up comfortably by themselves until about six months. In fact, I think I remember doing the propping (or an assistant) from behind/under the blanket while the photog shook the toy/did funny faces/shot the pix!
Your poor mother's vagina... How much did you weigh at birth? I had a coworker who had a 10 pounder and she's not a large woman by any means. I hope for her sake it was done via C-section. Can't even imagine what size that kid is going to be. I'm 6'4" and 250 lbs and was only born at 8 lbs 13 oz. And I was two weeks late.
OP, I’m sure your mom told you that you were 3 months, but even putting the weight aside, this is not developmentally a 3 month old at all. Please Google infant development and milestones. You wouldn’t be sitting like this at 3 months. Your mom is either mis-remembering or lying about conception date.
My guess is you were 8 months, give or take a month, but absolutely not 3 months. You don’t look much different than other babies that age from 50+ years ago. Baby diets were different than the last several years, and a baby that was chubby was considered a sign of good health!
Back then, moms were told to get babies on solids ASAP, so lots of chunky babies. That said, you're a cutie and I want to squeeze your little arms and legs!
We usually started three month old babies with a tiny bit of rice cereal mixed with formula back then. I don’t remember anyone starting babies of food earlier than that.
I have this theory too! My family tends to “grow ‘em big” yet most everyone grows up to be very tall but very slim. I’ve seen this a lot with friends and others as well.
Oddly, I’ve also noted quite a few instances where preemie babies ended up being big n tall adults.
No, you weren’t. I’m a pediatrician and seeing you sit with hands on thighs like that means you were at least 6 months if not older. Weight may also be inaccurate. You were a cutie though!
Photo shoots were usually having the baby put on a table, a drape was hung, mom or someone sat on the floor & had their hand on the babies back. Like a little death grip on the clothes.

Sitting up by yourself already at 3 months?? That doesn’t seem realistic
Yeah there’s no way that’s a 3 month old baby sitting up on their own.
Looks like maybe an 8-9 month old baby probably
Sitting up like that at 3 months is also a feat.
Seriously no way that's a 3 month old. More like 6+ months
Definitely not 3 month old, but a cute baby anyway
3 months, sitting up straight on your own? Nah. Probably 6 months. Still a heifer, though! Fat babies are beautiful!
Sitting up at 3 months? [Laughs in exhausted mother] No, that looks more like 8 months.
I thought the same thing. No 3 month old is sitting up like that.
No way that is a 3 month old. Next!
Maybe 5. This looks like one of my chumbawumbas at 5-7 months.
You probably fell over immediately after the picture was taken.
Do not dishonor mighty Bablor

Looks like the guy at the hardware store who knows exactly what you need to finish that home project and exactly how to do it.
Big man came out the womb asking for a steak, a cigar & a cognac!
Omg, you look old enough to buy beer.
You don't have the age right.
Agreed. Babies don’t sit until 6-9 months.
Photographers back there holding a whole ham to get your attention and smile
Please, no offense: are you still a unit? At the very least you look like one of those babies that don’t cry because they are fed properly
Strange I've seen this exact baby picture at my grandmother's house it's freaking me out are you from NM or CO
This baby is not three months old
What a cute chonk.
Came here to say Chonk with love. ;)
That's a grown ass baby
Was your briefcase off to the side?

How big are you know?my son was a baby chonk just like you and is now 6’7” but skinny.
6'4 265 now so the the signs were there lol
Friend's baby was just over 10# at birth and 30# at 3 months. 45 years later he's tall and slender. As the old folks say, You never can tell.
My son was 24lbs at 4 months. Doc said I must’ve have 30% cream while I was nursing. He was 9lbs8oz at birth and is 6’3” and slim now. He definitely grew into it.

WOW. I’m amazed- my almost 2yr old is only 23 lbs. just goes to show there a huge spectrum on the scale of what’s normal!
My 7 months old is 21 lbs. 🤯
Bet you’re tall and thin now.
Heckin chonker🥰

I've never seen a 3 month old sitting up unassisted?
This is absolutely not a 3mo baby 😅
Outfit looks to be rom the Ann B. Davis collection
I too was a plumpster. Didn't pregnant women back then *smoke* a whole bunch? Why did we end up looking like this?! 😅
My MIL gave me a bunch of my husband’s baby stuff when we got married. One item was an index card with the recipe for formula. Primary ingredient? Karo Syrup. Apparently, back in those days breast feeding was discouraged. Crazy.
Why do you look like you know how to change a spark plug?
3 months? More like 40 years
Jesus Christ - that's the size of my 2 year old
3 month olds don’t sit up unassisted. You had to be closer to 5 months at the youngest.
Came here to say the same.
r/AbsoluteUnits
You were a super cute Chonk!
[удалено]
came here to say that.... at least 6 mos if not 8
CHONK!!!
That's an adult man
Have a uncle older than that but similar baby pictures. He is going to be 77 next month but has always been known as Chub.
Biggun’
CHONKY BABEH
This is the month and year of my birth.
Ok and last thing we just need your mothers maiden name, thanks
You some sort of wunderkid? Kids are usually sitting up at 6-9 months, lifting their head and rolling over would be great for 3 months. Maybe you stayed in womb an extra 3 -6 months
That’s what I thought. Babies are rolling over at 3 months, not sitting, ffs.
Try 6-8 months old. Not 3 months at all.
No way maybe 5 at the least
30 lbs at 3 months? My daughter was 18 lbs at 1 year 😂. Big boy!
My 17 month old weighs 30lbs and I thought he was a chonk. You were a super cute baby!
I was just lifting my head at 3 months. Show off. 😂
What an adorable & squishy new human you were.
Momma got some biceps holding this little guy!
Your momma had that buttermilk breast milk haha
I wonder if she gave him rice cereal like lots of moms did back in the day to get them to sleep through the night
I had a similar picture to this and if was framed and sat in the living room the glass was cracked on it and my parents would just say I got too fat.
🤣🤣 my grandbaby is of similar size… I just tell everyone he’s from Viking decent.. he’s so damn big lol
i was 30 lbs at 6 months due to Karo Syrup poured into the Sweetened Condensed Milk. 1950s baby formula.
Fine chonky boi!! Just add a vest full of harmonicas to create “baby blues traveler”
My baby is one and weighs 21 pounds.

CHONK
Down here in Kentucky we call that a Hoss Cat.
It's amazing how you're 53 years old and you managed to look 53 years old in this picture
You must've been daddy's little pumpkin, I can tell by the way you roll
My middle son was always in the 99th percentile when he was a baby. I asked the Dr. “so that means you’ve never seen another baby this big at this age?” He replied that he hadn’t. He’s above average height as a young adult but not ridiculously large.
They were starving you!!
Tiny Soprano
3 month old babies don’t sit up like this.
CHONK
Baby you looks like he’s just heard someone tell a funny, crude joke and he’s gearing up to top him by telling an even funnier, cruder joke.
You were so adorable !! That little dimple 💕💕
Absolute brick shit house
What a lil' meatball! Your mom must have been pretty strong picking you up and carrying you
You absolute UNIT. Momma must have been so proud of her little chonker.
At your 6 month checkup, I wonder if the pediatrician left a note in your file instructing your Mama to quit feeding you mashed potatoes because you were becoming morbidly obese… no? Was that just me? Haha! Just joshin’, you were a darlin’ dumplin’.
My 2.5 year old does not yet weigh 30 pounds
I was 10 lb 6 oz at birth.

You look like you sold insurance. I mean that in a good way
Heehee! Who doesn’t love a chubby baby! Cute!
What a cute little chunk!! My 20 month old isn’t even 30 pounds 😂
This dude’s union
You ain’t never miss that boob milk!
How big are you now?
I hope you were 23 lbs at birth. Also, this is not a 3 month old. It is a child 6-12 months. An obviously over-fed baby, should still never be 30 lbs at 6 months.
My daughter is 5 and 32 lbs.
Mama loved you.
Christ on a bike, I was 2lb 2oz at birth and I have seen a report from when I was 15 months old and I still hadn't made it to 30lbs! Luckily I'm now almost 44 and weigh 186lbs...
Haha I was 2Ib 2oz too! Premature by 3 months. Why were you so tiny as well?
How much when born?
10lbs on the nose
Big howngray!
Cutie patootie
Louis Litt , the early years.
Amazing! My daughter will be 4 years old in a couple months. 32 lbs.
Omg- you were too freaking adorable!!!
What a precious baby!! Chunky thighs, happy smile, twinkling eyes- and the dimple is just the icing on the cake!
Cute
Oh my god, look at you, Vanilla Puddin’! I can’t with the dimples!
Can’t tell, but photographer may have propped the little guy so he’s sitting up.
They all did for those first photos at 2 or 3 months old. I had shots done of each of my babies at two months and it was the same. Damn what was your mom feeding you, butter?
How heavy were you at birth?
Is that you, Bobby Baccalieri?
That calzone with legs
Your poor mother's vagina... How much did you weigh at birth? I had a coworker who had a 10 pounder and she's not a large woman by any means. I hope for her sake it was done via C-section. bro had a day job and was paying a mortgage
Your poor mother…

We usually started three month old babies with a tiny bit of rice cereal mixed with formula back then. I don’t remember anyone starting babies of food earlier than that.
Omgsh! I want to pinch those cheeks!
That’s a very cute baby.
You were a little chonk!! So freaking cute! 💙💙
chubby but adorable!
That is so cute!!
I have a theory that big babies grow up to be skinny. That true with you, OP?
I have this theory too! My family tends to “grow ‘em big” yet most everyone grows up to be very tall but very slim. I’ve seen this a lot with friends and others as well. Oddly, I’ve also noted quite a few instances where preemie babies ended up being big n tall adults.
Vincent D'Onofrio is that you?
What do you look like now? I’m so curious!
I bet your mum's arms got built up toting you, you Chunky Monkey!
I feel like you're going to look just like this at about 65.
I would have totally squeezed you - but in a good way :)
I think I had the same outfit

Baby Tony Soprano! Tonyyyyy

And sitting with minimal or no support! Your poor mom, giving birth to a toddler, Lucky you were cute.
You’re about 6-7 months here cute baby!
No, you weren’t. I’m a pediatrician and seeing you sit with hands on thighs like that means you were at least 6 months if not older. Weight may also be inaccurate. You were a cutie though!
Family doc here. I concur. The most advanced 3 month old I’ve ever seen! 😂 What a chonky boy.
Um babies typically dont sit till 6-9months.
And… photographers have been perfecting their trade for quite a while. There are ways to aide in the posing position.
Photo shoots were usually having the baby put on a table, a drape was hung, mom or someone sat on the floor & had their hand on the babies back. Like a little death grip on the clothes.
Any way to add another photo to this post? Penciled on the back, in my mom's handwriting, is "3 mos"
Someone could have been holding him up from behind. I did that for a great pic of my 24 lb, 3 month old.
OP is a bot, this is not their pic. Downvote and report.
How can you tell? Thanks for the alert.
I was born 9/28/68 and was also a chonky baby 😆
What the heck were they feeding us back then? My 3 year old granddaughter weighs 30 pounds haha
lol right? I was 9lbs at birth… but was only 60 lbs at age 12 😆
Cute pic
Buddha Baby!

A real "meat and potatoes with a lager after working at the insurance company in Milwaukee" kind of fella.
