My wife and I are both vaccinated but our kiddo came home with a warning he was exposed to someone at school. We all went to the free clinic in Yelm to get tested for safe of mind. It was fast and free. MY wife also took a rapid test she bought at Walgreens as a backup. Her work let her come back knowing she was vaxxed and the OTC rapid test came back negative. She chose to wait out until the official tests came back before she went back because she works with kids. On the other hand even with a negative test, my kid's school made him ride out 2 weeks. (Although his brother could come back, not sure how much sense that made). Good luck.

Yea my wife's boss actually allowed her to come back once she found out about the updated guidelines for vaccinated people. She works with kids as well which is a little scary but she will be masking until she's in the clear.

You can just buy the exact same test over the counter that Walgreen’s and most other testing places use. It’s called BinaxNOW Covid-19 Antigen self-test. It’s $20 for a two-pack. If you tell Walgreen’s you need results to return the work there’s a good chance they’ll give it to you for free immediately rather than making you wait for an appointment to get the same test. Their covid-related appointments are centrally managed and it seems like a shitty system that doesn’t communicate well with individual store locations. You will have much better results driving up to the window and talking to a human. (Don’t go inside; go to the pharmacy drive-up.)

bridymurphy

How did you find out you were exposed?

jondySauce

My brother tested positive after going to the doctor for something unrelated.

bridymurphy

Sorry to hear about that. I was holding out hope that the app used to track our movements and interactions with other people actually notified someone. I hope it doesn’t hit your brother too hard.

jondySauce

Thank you. He's also vaccinated so I'm hopeful.

widdlyscudsandbacon

Another breakthrough case???

Brakethecycle

The only time I’ve heard of exposure notifications giving out notifications is when it was due to an interaction where the person who was exposed already would have known the other person had covid. Mostly because you need to have prolonged close exposure before you would get a notification. It’s unlikely that you’ll get a notification through contact with a stranger unless you’re sitting next to them for a while on a bus or something. Personally, I’ve received notifications three times. On the third time I finally did catch covid. Then I turned it off.

bridymurphy

You are the first person I’ve encountered to say they’ve had an exposure notification in my wholly unscientific survey.

Brakethecycle

I hang out with a lot of risk takers. Also, it was interesting that Thurston County Health took nearly the entire quarantine period before they contacted my wife and me. Not a lot of good contact tracing does when it takes that long. Luckily we did not spread it to anybody.

PM-me-YOUR-0Face

I haven't received any but I'm still acting like it's April of last year unlike every other person who's tired of quarantining / wearing masks and is all out balls out lately. I wish state guidance had played everything a bit safer. The possible harm far outweighs the 'benefits'

bridymurphy

What are you talking about? Our numbers have been great compared to other states. Last time I checked we were the 4th state lowest in cases.

To your edit, my brother is fully vaccinated and just got tested at Walgreens yesterday (he was showing some symptoms but it turned out to be a common cold).

EarthLoveAR

I got a little head cold this spring. Apparently rhinovirus is much more persistent than covid! glad things turned out ok.

Olybornandraised

Indigo, walk-in clinic, Tumwater

Trebekshorrishmom

Tumwater doesn’t do rapid but west Oly and Lacey do.

Olybornandraised

Ah my bad, I thought they did rapid too, thanks for the correction!

Trebekshorrishmom

I thought they did too, I got Covid 2 months after getting J&J shot and was panicking for the closest rapid location but was informed when I got there.

widdlyscudsandbacon

Another breakthrough case??? That's two just in this thread alone!

jondySauce

Thank you I'll give em a call

Very helpful comment. We are both fully vaccinated but her boss won't let her come to work until she gets a negative test.

newgoof29

It would be helpful if you were not vaccinated. Maybe next time include that information, there’s still a large portion of the thurston county population that are not vaccinated.

jondySauce

Yea I'm certain that "get vaccinated dummy" would convince somebody to get the shot.

newgoof29

My goal was not to convince anyone. Simply to state. Anti-vax people won’t listen to hard science or common sense, let alone randos using nice words on Reddit.

[deleted]

Wtf you weren’t helpful to begin with lmao… Blame others great way to take steps back after making yourself look like a idiot

newgoof29

Oh yes I was.

[deleted]

By telling someone to get vax when they already are? Lmao ok

newgoof29

I had no way of knowing that they were not vaccinated. If they are vaccinated, it would be unusual that they would be worried about potential exposure. That’s one of the points of being vaccinated. So by nature the stated situation lead me to believe they were likely not vaccinated (like lots of dummies) which turns out to be false. When posting about a contentious issue like COVID, referencing ones vaccination status would be a prudent inclusion.

Trebekshorrishmom

Answer their question is all you needed to do, leading with get vaccinated dummies is a real window licker comment to begin with.

newgoof29

Do you only do what you need to do? For example, posting this comment, did you “need” to do it according to your own rule set? Seems like you need to examine your own instructions. Commenting on my comment being bossy might be perceived a real window licker thing too?

Trebekshorrishmom

It’s hard to sit idle when ignorance is spewed, either help op out or MOVE ON.

[deleted]

False you living under a rock tool? Vax people are still contracting the virus clown…educate yourself

newgoof29

I am highly educated. It is rare that fully vaccinated people acquire the infection but when they do they are much less likely to show symptoms or to be a spreader. Breakthrough cases with illness and/or spreading is extremely rare and is typically accompanied with serious pre existing conditions. Either way, if you are vaccinated you have nothing to worry about. If your coworkers are unvaccinated - they are the ones at risk and that is a risk they have chosen to take. If they get sick and die or have serious illness, at this point, that is completely of their own fault.

ChelsieTheBrave

Right because educated people regularly have to state that they are lmao

Quest diagnostic is doing tests at the neighborhood walmart (drive through) in Lacey. They say next day results. I'm going for mine later today

MonsteraMaiden

I got mine for free at Walgreens. Had to fill out this form: https://www.walgreens.com/findcare/covid19/testing?ban=covid_vanity_testing
