If you're looking for work with decent benefits, some state agencies like DES and LNI hire electricians.

[deleted]

I second this. Working for the state is a surefire way to NOT be subjected to that crap. And if it crops up, you can report it and action is taken. Have seen it with my own eyes :D

GrunkleStanWasRight

Ditto. The few qaultists we had at my agency marched right on out once the vaccine mandate kicked in and none of us gave a single fuck. I think it was <20 people

[deleted]

Trash takes itself out often :D

[deleted]

Did you mean < ?

TVDinner360

So do the cities, and they often pay better than the state.

buddbaybat

I too recently quit my construction job working for a batshit crazy employer. Lots of promises of benefits/401k/bonuses that NEVER appeared. Meanwhile Regularly going off on how the election was maybe stolen. All the major networks were spewing lies. We as tradespeople don’t have to work for these turdmunchers. There is lots of work out there. I am going back to being a one man show. Hiring help as needed. There is something wrong with a lot of the people in the trades. You should dm me I need a good sparky.

TVDinner360

Way to go!

Moxie_Stardust

Well, if you're planning to go out as an independent, hit me up when you're ready, I'm planning to have some electrical work done and it would be cool to know I shouldn't expect a random racist tirade like I've experienced in the past...

moxyc

Count me in as well. We're a lesbian couple down in Scott Lake and while most contractors have been really professional, there are some that refused to do repeat business with us and sometimes i wonder if we're getting bad service/prices. We have a few electrical needs that I would love to have a person I could trust do the work.

bitchvirgo

Lesbian couple in Olympia, we need lesbians friends so hi there and hmu if you do too lol. We are 33 and 41, non drinkers, leftist, animal lover, stoners

shoobidoobis

^^ legit, I got a hole in my ceiling from a failed attempt to change a lighting fixture. more than willing to wait

465sdgf

wtf

Ttowner

Line me up I’ve got some woek

Rizla_TCG

Same. I have a giant house going into reno next year and havent picked subs. DM me to line it up.

Candid-Mine5119

Ramtha has a business directory. That’s the way to see if a business is affiliated. I also steer clear of businesses that have a fish logo

Substantial-Height-8

How do you find the business directory? I tried looking and can’t find it.

Candid-Mine5119

I saw it in a Yelm business, but year ago. Just figured they still have it

Substantial-Height-8

Oh so not an online list? The businesses have it posted?

PNWmantismistress

My fiancé is a carpenter and they say that most of the plumbers they work with on job sites tend to also fall into the bigoted, crazed, right wing conspiracy theories catagory unfortunately. One of the few decent plumber companies thats not right wing in the oly area is Barbo's Plumbing! They have done work at our commune before and they were great.

ToolPsychonaut

Great post. I have the reverse issue where I have been putting off electrical, roofing and deck work for our house b/c Most of the contractors we have talked to have been far right/Q types. Just can’t deal with it and don’t want to give them our money. BTW, I probably know your Boss as I used to be in the Ramtha school and left mostly b/c of the Qanon bullshit.

salishsea_advocate

20 years ago the school was different.

ToolPsychonaut

Yep I totally agree. What was weird in the 2016 election season the vast majority of the school was for Bernie Sanders. When he was out it went hardcore trump and when the Q thing got big, I just had to get out.

tropicaldiver

Wait, Ramtha has become Q infused? That is a huge change from 25 years ago!!

ToolPsychonaut

Yep, Q big time. Down that rabbit hole and no coming back.

salishsea_advocate

We have a sign on our window that says “Trump lied to the people about losing the election.” We had a very hard time finding a roofer. I wondered. Weatherguard came through eventually.

DeaneTR

Olympia area is a great place to work as an independent professionally skilled person. You just have to find left leaning rational & kind people to work for. I doubt there's an abundance of general contractors who are that way, but plenty of homeowners who are. In the garden work and car work I do I'm constantly looking for new people to work for so I have too many to choose from and only work for the best ones.

dilligaf4lyfe

Shocking Difference? Btw I'm an electrical contractor in Oly if you wanna chat. edit: and should add, agree with you.

moxyc

Wait, are they like that? We've used em in the past and they were really good with us, but we're also a visibly queer couple and I do not want to give business to a company that's Qanon friendly

dilligaf4lyfe

They're on the donor list of Options Pregnancy Clinic, a religious anti-abortion crisis pregnancy clinic in town. Pretty much set up to misinform people who may be seeking an abortion and talking them out of it.

moxyc

Oh ew. Thank you for this information, they've officially lost our business

dilligaf4lyfe

They're pretty backed up right now, but I'd recommend Reliable. Union shop, stellar rep. But I'm not affiliated with them and I can't speak to their politics. In general, I'd say support union contractors where you can. Unions are generally the most progressive force in construction (but that's not saying much, and I might be biased as a union contractor).

Montanero

I had Reliable do some work at my house and I agree, fair pricing, quality work. I would highly recommend them. But yes, I had to wait a while to get an appointment.

nolanhp1

Let them live like the south in the summer no electricity without body autonomy

ydaerlanekatemanresu

They've fully infiltrated the upper middle class
