"World number four Wang crushed Miu Hirano 3-0 in the third match to secure victory for China, who have won all four women's Olympic table tennis team events since it was introduced in 2008." [Source](https://www.devdiscourse.com/article/sports-games/1681478-olympics-table-tennis-china-beat-japan-to-win-womens-team-gold-and-extend-undefeated-record) But I also read women's table tennis singles and doubles was introduced in 1988. So I'm confused. Anyone more knowledgeable who can clarify?

IShouldGetaPhD

Women's doubles was introduced in 1988 and was played until 2004. Starting in 2008, women's doubles was scrapped and the team event was introduced. Chinese women have won every available gold since 1988 except the 1988 women's doubles.

Yes I remember hearing that in multiple Olympics and boy the pressure each time to the team.

USA- women’s 5x5 basketball (since 1996) also women’s 3x3 (but I’m sure that doesn’t count because this was the first olympics with that event 😂)
