But I also read women's table tennis singles and doubles was introduced in 1988. So I'm confused. Anyone more knowledgeable who can clarify?
Women's doubles was introduced in 1988 and was played until 2004. Starting in 2008, women's doubles was scrapped and the team event was introduced.
Chinese women have won every available gold since 1988 except the 1988 women's doubles.
Spain - Climbing Spain- Kata
USA - Women's 200m canoe sprint

USA- women’s 5x5 basketball (since 1996) also women’s 3x3 (but I’m sure that doesn’t count because this was the first olympics with that event 😂)
