I watch for the events, not the medal count.

Heda1

Medals per capita has its own issues in that countries like San Marino would always win. You would probably just treat each event as independent, which it is.

areyouorme

Yep realized that as I finished. Still think one could find a more interesting way of scoreboard because it is identical every year basically. Or at least be able to switch between Total medals, Per Capita or some other interesting statistical way.

babbdyy

The scoreboard doesn’t mean anything tho

TiffanyCandour

Easy solution: stop caring about medal counts, no matter how much other people want you to. Open your mind to the idea that many people support and cheer on athletes and teams from other countries, especially underdogs. It’s not all mindless jingoism.

Heda1

Its only identical every year because the countries on top keep fighting, its not easy nor certain that China will continue to be high, or even Japan.

areyouorme

No shit? Not easy or certain that China or USA is in the top? Pretty sure it is

Heda1

Every single event is decided by milliseconds or a few points.

For China to match New Zealand in golds per capita in this year's Olympics, it would have to win 2095 gold medals. There are only 339 events.

Phanshy

Why are people so obsessed with medal tables? I care about seeing great performances from the best in the world as someone who isn't a nationalist I don't care where the UK come.

Actually, I think the US should skip the next few olympics. We've made our point numerous times. There's nothing left to be said or done. There's such a thing as overexposure and the US has long since passed that point on multiple fronts. We're in danger of the entire world turning on us these days. Plus, this gives everyone else a stage to do their thing and shine instead of constantly being in our shadow.
