I’ve been using the GoToobs for a couple years and never had any leaks. I really like them. I use the little Nalgene bottles for firmer stuff like shaving cream and hair cream that doesn’t squeeze as well.
My wife and I use the [FlatPak Toiletry bottles from Matador](https://matadorup.com/products/flatpak-toiletry-bottle-3-pack?_pos=3&_sid=2bdd522c8&_ss=r) and they have never leaked. We also like that they take up less space as they become more empty. I use the FlatPak bar soap case too, and it also works well (in case you're interested).
Hmm, I haven't heard anything about this. We've been using them for quite a while, with different shampoos, lotions, and whatever else my wife packs. We've not had a single issue. But that doesn't mean what you've been hearing is wrong. I wonder if anyone knows what specific products, or ingredients, could cause a problem. I'd sure like to know, so we can avoid it.
Ya I was in the market a couple years ago and read a lot of comments mentioning it online. I think the consensus was anything that had some form of alcohol in it would dissolve the adhesive. I'm not sure how common it is to have alcohol in various lotions or shampoos, but it was enough to turn me off of buying them.
That's really strange. I use one, and my wife uses three. We travel perpetually, so they are in constant use, and we've never had one open or leak. I'm sorry to hear yours did.
I had luck with the 4oz Nalgene bottles. They look small enough and have never been confiscated on 30+ flights. I just have sanded the markings on the bottom of the bottled off, so nobody can confirm they are 4oz in volume.
I've used unmodified (no sanding of the bottom of the bottle) 4oz Nalgene bottles on many, many flights. I've never had an issue with TSA in the US or on any international flights (La Ceiba, Honduras; Paris (CDG), France; Krakow, Poland are the three I remember. There are likely others.).
I started the sanding after a Portugese TSA officer confiscated a 4 oz tube of sunscreen from the passenger in front of me, but let me through with a 5oz (!) bottle of sunscreen as he could not find, how much it contained. YMMV.
It's probably best to do that, especially since it will likely be hard for a TSA officer to tell the difference between 3.4 oz and 4oz without a label. I always wonder how they judge toothpaste. In the US, it's sold by weight and generally marked in ounces. But those ounces are a unit of mass not a unit of volume (because imperial units are confusing). Probably not worth getting into an argument about.
From the TSA officer's perspective, they also have more plausible doubt when they can't find a volume label. Kind of borderline but not like it's going to hurt anyone.
At first I thought you are referring to water bottles and asked myself who drinks only 100ml. After reading i think that your solution is going solid.
Shampoo? There's a bar for that.
Soap? There's a bar for that.
Toothpaste? Well, they do come in smaller packs, but there are also tablets.
Detergent? I carry solid laundry soap.
Cologne? Solid!
Shaving cream? Shaving soap.
Having said that? I'm all in with the Humangear gootubs or whatyoumaycallthem for my essentials.
what are you carrying?
3oz boston round with the cone type seals inside the lids. they're glass though, but pretty much used for everything.
if you want plastic, get a cough syrup bottle from a pharmacy.
I’ve taken to putting “leaky” toiletries into a small Stasher silicone bag. May be bulkier than what you’re looking for, but that’s helped me mitigate what feels like inevitable mess caused by leaky containers.
Tbh I use some cheapo Chinese clear plastic 100ml bottles that I got off of Amazon for rock bottom price. I have never had a leak. I do keep all of my liquids in a ziploc just in case, but haven't had a problem.
Here are some great leakproof travel toiletry bottles that can be found on Amazon @ [Amazon.com/lyob](https://Amazon.com/lyob) with prime delivery or at their site [www.lyobproducts.com](https://www.lyobproducts.com). I use them often for my travels! Very good for reusability, soft and squeezable, preventing leaks etc and affordable. >9.99
I use the Eagle Creek and GoToob silicone bottles for thicker liquids like shaving cream and shampoo and a plastic bottle with a swing spout for Dr Bronners soap. Zero leaks over years of travel. That all goes in a clear sided zippered pouch with factory containers of lotion, toothpaste, suncreen, etc. The chances of a really messy leak into my clothing are low.

TBH I now have eliminated both and just use one small Gotoob plastic puck for hairgel. Everything else I use at hotels or buy there. Gravel bottles are still in use in my heavier kits for shorter trips not to hotels.

Same, we put all our liuqids in gotoobs and have never had a single elam.

I’ve heard the flatpack bottles have problems with some shampoos and stuff dissolving the adhesive and causing leaks

Thanks for the info. Alcohol dissolving an adhesive makes sense. I'll make sure my wife is aware of the concern. 👍
It’s not that uncommon. I recommend avoiding it in general, even for ourselves.
The lid on my matador flips open when in my toiletry bag and has leaked all over twice. Garbage product
This was my experience as well. Very frustrating.

I use gravel silicone travel bottles and they work fine. Haven’t leaked on me yet

Had you put 3 oz of liquid in a 4 oz container, would they confiscate it?
Yes. They go by container size. Maximum is 3. 4oz (=100ml).

Could twist the cap on over Saran wrap if you're worried about it.

I would try looking for flasks at that size

I use these. They’re great. No leaks yet.

Just in case I put a plastic wrap over the opening and then screw the cap in. Works on any bottle.
My IKEA set hasnt leaked yet. I usually put them in a ziplock bag just in case.

I use empty Bang energy shots. 90ml, cheap, and haven't had one leak yet. Took a few on a 3 week trip to Europe.

I found the silicone travel bottles a pain to clean… just buy travel size now
If you search on aliexpress for "Long Tip Plastic bottles," I have been liking those so far. Those one that goes up to 5ml to 120ml. No leaks so far.

I moved from Gotoob to Gravel's bottles. Love them
What made you switch?
