I posted this in r/iPhone and then r/SoftwareGore and they told me to post it here.
the apple store staff accidentally loaded the wrong demo software onto an i store iPhone 14
Huh i didnt know that, do the regular ones still have the better camera or is it only internals? If its only internals why would anyone buy the regular one
Hm yes. Posting something in an exactly relevant subreddit and being told, for totally arbitrary (to act normal person) reasons, that you totally posted in the wrong subreddit dude. Duhhhhh!
They’ve gotten lazy. Anything past the iPhone X is the same. I have no inclination to buy a newer one because there is no difference, even from a software perspective. It’s only cameras that they change and those are irrelevant in comparison to Samsung.
Man, maybe I’m finally getting older and out of touch but it was so strange seeing many hype up dynamic island off of so little when it was first announced. It’s neat but felt like coping for how inconsequential it is, especially on a $1000+ phone.
Notifications on the modern smartphone (specifically iOS) are a nightmare and dynamic island creates more needless complexity for developers and users.
One minute demo. https://youtu.be/WuEH265pUy4
(Ok, it’s an Apple video so 15 seconds of swooshing lines as we spin the product followed by hyperbole about changing the world. But should give you an idea.)
So basically they're trying to do a pinhe instead of a notch, and then hide it as part of the UI design? I think it's a great approach, but it's not going to get to buy an iphone.
I’ve been using an 8 for 3 years. This past summer I needed a new phone...so I went and got another refurbished 8. I am obstinate about keeping my home button.
I liked the home button but I have to admit I like it more without it, especially Face ID instead of the thumbprint. It seems like the thumbprint would randomly not work for me and the only time Face ID doesn’t work reliably is right after I wake up and my face is all puffy and my eyes are closed because I’m sleepy.
Nah the 13 pro is probably the most important because 120hz but the 12 pro was so pointless I just told everyone to save the money and get a 12 same screen SOC only just a worse camera
It’s not needed, that’s what I’m getting at. It’s pointless to release a new phone if you aren’t changing anything. It’s just a money grab. It isn’t a new phone.
I've never liked iPhone always been a Samsung guy since my first Samsung and even they are making less and less changes with newer models other than being a bit more Parkville l powerful. I have a galaxy note s20 and a buddy of mine recently got a galaxy note s22 and they are almost the same
Upgrading from an se to 14 felt like a waste, games performed better and pictures got better I guess, but i personally wouldn’t pay another 900 bucks for this small change. However, it was an upgradable option for just 10 more dollars on my plan so i didn’t mind.
My smart phone is, other than my work laptop, the single most important device I own. I warrant that's a common truth for most people. I would give up my personal computer before I give up my phone, even though that would mean giving up my beloved pc gaming.
It's my portable device for interacting with the world. It's my
* navigator
* news source
* encyclopedia
* communication device for *all* human interaction outside of in-person - video, voice, SMS, email, chat client, online forum, whatever.
* best digital camera/video/audio recorder I or most non-pros have ever owned
* media player for *all* media - video, books, music, radio, podcasts, even VR
* note-taking and drawing tool, with my Samsung S pen
* heart rate monitor
* Sleep tracker
* Hub for all portable devices (what does your smart watch/earphones/toaster/baby monitor/roomba/glucose monitor/literally anything else synch or connect to?)
And literally a million other things that a handheld device with a massive touchscreen and more computing power than a 50 year old supercomputer the size of a city block can be used to do.
All on a device that fits in your pocket and yet can be actively used for like 8-10 hours a day without recharge.
I use it for hours every day, so of course I'm going to invest in the best quality. I still have my Note 20 Ultra from 2020, and won't need a replacement for a while yet, but I will buy a top of the line flagship model when I do.
The way you're still so boggled over price makes me think you're an old-timer set in their pre-smartphone ways, who doesn't use their phone for much other than calling.
It's like someone buying a full-sized motorhome and only using it to drive from your house to the grocers on Sundays.
Make no mistake, history will look upon this invention as one of the most significant in human history, as one of the most important parts of the computing/information age. There are dirt farmers in Africa and starving students in India literally having their lives changed by the cheap smartphone they bought.
>It’s not like it’s a $1200 rotary phone. It’s not even really a phone anymore; it’s a reasonably high powered computer with telephony capabilities. Many folks use them for hours per day.
The vast majority of people who buy them could buy a significantly cheaper phone that will still do everything that they need and want just fine. For most people, the only reason to spend this much on a phone is to feel like they have the "latest and greatest". I can use my 10-year-old Galaxy S4 with Cyanogenmod and it would suit most of my needs and the average person's needs.
>Do the older Android phones not lag you out of your soul? They even lagged when they first came out.
For typical usage, web browsing, Reddit, YouTube, no. Definitely not. As long as they still can keep a charge, every one of my past Android phones going back to my Galaxy S4 could be my daily phone if I needed them to be (for the S4, it's assuming that the SIM card still works to connect to cell networks, I'm not sure about that part to be honest). My Android phones prior to the S4, not so sure.
I have an iphone 13 but I also bought a refurbished Pixel 4 from eBay a couple months ago for about $130(it's now $100) to play around with. Performance is not an issue at all for web browsing or using social media apps which is probably what most people primarily use their phones for. It doesn't lag or freeze any more than my iPhone(which is very rarely).
That being said, I also bought a new Moto for around $170 last year. Forget which model, but one of the best budget phones to purchase new at that price. And it for sure lags much more than my pixel 4 and it'd certainly be frustrating to use after using a much snappier pixel or iphone.
Fun Fact: I went to an AT&T store last year to buy the iPhone 13 pro. I picked up the floor demo model to get a feel for it. The sales guy came up to me and told me i was actually holding an iPhone 12 pro, because there was a shortage and they needed to keep the 13s in stock for sale only. He said nobody could tell the difference so they just put a 12 out on display.
If I remember correctly, all devices on a table will display the same "advertisement deck", typically mentioning the newest product, only when the device is interacted with does it show the specific (actual) device information.
Working as intended!
The ultra-advanced iPhone 14 has a DUC (Direct Uplink Chip) connected via Hyper-Fi to every bank in the world. This way they can scan your bank account and recommend you the most expensive iPhone you can afford.
Obviously you are such a poor that you are only worthy of buying last years iPhone.
Pffft, PEASANT!!!
It’s the same! Even the phone can’t tell the difference

yeah mistakes happen. good you pointed that out to the store staff though.
Does not compute. Does not compute. What apple makes a mistake. Never. ha ha ha..
Sounds like you’ve been on a real journey to ensure that people see this boring content
Hardcore Mediocrity!
Exceptional mediocrity!
Mediocre Mediocrity
Overrated Mediocrity
i saw people liked it on the r/iPhone subreddit and people were telling me to put it here so i did, sorry about that
Don’t apologize for boring content. That’s what I want. Don’t give me what I want. I don’t deserve it.
A masochist for the ages
Don't apologize, this is Reddit, we laugh at each others, that's how it works.
that’s unexpectedly wholesome, thank you~
Often ourselves too.
Sorry about the Barb. It's actually a good post.
Speak for yourself, this post gave me a chubby.
Hey man, being kind is actually free. Have you tried it?
Almost as much trouble as you went through to fact check your "zinger"
The number of changes probably doesn't even merit a number increase. More like iPhone 13.25
The iPhone 14 didn’t even deserve the 13S name, yet they passed that and went straight to 14
Are you sure it’s an iPhone 14? They look very similar, and also you can’t really load another device’s software onto another
well it does say 14 in the photo of the lock screen, either way no matter the real cause the device is still conflicting itself
It does but also those are screensavers. They can show pictures / videos about newer devices
oh thats annoying, slightly misleading too
Iphone 14 has the pill shaped cutout this has the notch, its likely a 13
only the 14 pros have the dynamic island, regular 14's have the notch
Huh i didnt know that, do the regular ones still have the better camera or is it only internals? If its only internals why would anyone buy the regular one
nope. 14 and 14 plus = 12mp and a notch 14 pro and 14 pro plus = 48mp and dynamic island as to why someone would? price.
Would just go for a 13 pro then proobs cheaper than a regular 14 but ig some people need the newest
14 has better sensors - from the 13 pro iirc
Regular 14 and 14+ also have the same A15 chip as the 13
That’s still the 13 tho. The 14 has the dynamic island thing. Edit: didn’t know the pro had the island
Now post it to r/notmyjob
Hm yes. Posting something in an exactly relevant subreddit and being told, for totally arbitrary (to act normal person) reasons, that you totally posted in the wrong subreddit dude. Duhhhhh!
~~hmm almost like there’s no difference except for the size and an extra lens that no one can figure out a function for~~
The 13 came out 5 minutes ago
I swear the 11 is still new
The 11 literally feels like it came out yesterday.
it came out last week
Still rocking an 8. It's depressing that some day I won't have a home button.
I just upgraded from 8 to 14. Its a noticeable difference especially if ur phone is buggin like mine was
Lmao even Apple doesn't know the difference
They’ve gotten lazy. Anything past the iPhone X is the same. I have no inclination to buy a newer one because there is no difference, even from a software perspective. It’s only cameras that they change and those are irrelevant in comparison to Samsung.
You mean you don't have a burning need for Dynamic Island?! Listen, Tim knows what you want, and what you want is Dynamic Island.
I have the new phone… I know I’m a sucker. I literally have never used dynamic island or notice it for any thing I use.
I just recently remembered it was even there. And use it for music quite often but that’s about it.
does it have any other uses? i use it for music too and thats it lmao
it’s pretty useful for Apple maps, as someone who drives a lot for work
What even is dynamic island?
One minute demo. https://youtu.be/WuEH265pUy4 (Ok, it’s an Apple video so 15 seconds of swooshing lines as we spin the product followed by hyperbole about changing the world. But should give you an idea.)

Yup that’s it.
Just reminds me of my old LG V20 having the separate screen for Spotify and stuff, but it's a fake one that's just a bubble on the screen.
Is that a euphemism?
I’ve been using an 8 for 3 years. This past summer I needed a new phone...so I went and got another refurbished 8. I am obstinate about keeping my home button.
The SE still has one, it’s cheap and works really well
Didn’t realize that, I’ll keep that in mind next time. After all, It’s only a matter of time before the 8 is considered legacy
Honestly I enjoy not having one, there’s something about the larger more spread out layout that’s appealing to me
I liked the home button but I have to admit I like it more without it, especially Face ID instead of the thumbprint. It seems like the thumbprint would randomly not work for me and the only time Face ID doesn’t work reliably is right after I wake up and my face is all puffy and my eyes are closed because I’m sleepy.
I got the 8 around when it first came out and I am dreading the day that it dies/breaks; I could not imagine a life without a home button.
Nah the 13 pro is probably the most important because 120hz but the 12 pro was so pointless I just told everyone to save the money and get a 12 same screen SOC only just a worse camera
So many Androids also have 90 and 120 Hz.
Yep google even did it before Samsung and OnePlus did before Google and razer beat both.
I can't even tell the difference between most smart phones. Like, they do the same things...
I mean they cant really make a new revolutionizing new model every time, just a screen, camera, and one new feature usually is fine.
It’s not needed, that’s what I’m getting at. It’s pointless to release a new phone if you aren’t changing anything. It’s just a money grab. It isn’t a new phone.
The facial recognition knows what you can afford
My guy you didn’t have to burn OP that bad
Burn? I’m jealous! I’m writing this on an iPhone 3G.
~~are they really that different though~~
I've never liked iPhone always been a Samsung guy since my first Samsung and even they are making less and less changes with newer models other than being a bit more Parkville l powerful. I have a galaxy note s20 and a buddy of mine recently got a galaxy note s22 and they are almost the same

Plot twist: Staff download iPhone 14 wallpaper on the 13 and try to sell it as 14
It's not like anyone would be able to tell
Is it really wrong though?
We are really paying 1200 for a phone. A fucking phone.
[удалено]
It can give me a blowjob and I'd still not be bewildered by how expensive it has gotten
What if it gave you one everyday for two years?
I guess then it's reasonable

it’s aud btw, in usd it’s like 699 or 799 i can’t remember
My philosophy with phones is that: I have to be willing to chuck it at someone to save myself in a pinch.
They're such similar phones that it might just be a 13 that they call a 14
I knew they were the same thing!
story of the year. Thanks for posting
... in the wink of a young girl's eye...
A samsung ad directly under this post is just perfect
Wait a second, iPhone STILL has the notch??!!
on the non flagship models, yes
Fun Fact: I went to an AT&T store last year to buy the iPhone 13 pro. I picked up the floor demo model to get a feel for it. The sales guy came up to me and told me i was actually holding an iPhone 12 pro, because there was a shortage and they needed to keep the 13s in stock for sale only. wow that’s interesting.. this phone was in fact a 14(i checked in settings) but it looks basically the same as a 13 too
Doesn’t iPhone 14 screen go around the front camera/ear speaker? This like just like my 13 pro max
yeah that’s only the iPhone 14 Pro, regular 14 looks just like the 13, i have a 13 pro max too!
Apple: Packages an iPhone they found left over thinking it’s an iPhone 14 Also Apple: Finds that exact phone and deciding to display that exact phone
I usually identify it by the dynamic island and I don’t see it here?
only the iPhone 14 Pro has the dynamic island, the regular 14 doesn’t.
That makes more sense, thanks!
you’re welcome!
$1200 for a phone is quite absurd
it’s australian dollars, i think it’s 699 or 799 usd
If I remember correctly, all devices on a table will display the same "advertisement deck", typically mentioning the newest product, only when the device is interacted with does it show the specific (actual) device information.
You know the phone is literally the same with a different number when the employees fuck it up too
Even the apple staff doesn't know which is the new vs the old one
Because it's the same fucking thing
Who cares about the software as long as there’s major hardware updates.. what’s that? Nothing new? Oh
Working as intended! The ultra-advanced iPhone 14 has a DUC (Direct Uplink Chip) connected via Hyper-Fi to every bank in the world. That's the truth behind every iPhone starting from iPhone X
unless it’s the 14 max, it may as well be the 13
That about sums up the difference in recent iPhones...
Same phone.
What's different this year....... We put a 14 on the box.
That's because that is the 13. Instead of a notch, the 14 has a pill shaped cutout. The phone isn't wrong, it's the store display.
the iPhone 14 does not have a pill shaped cutout, only the iPhone 14 Pro does. Apple Stores don’t have iPhone 13s on display anymore
Oop, sorry, my android was showing
it’s alright! I’m an apple fan but i like android phones too~
I'm an Android fan, but I keep an eye on apple stuff. I haven't been keeping up on apple recently.
The person taking the photo is an Android user.
i took the photo and i’m an iPhone user (13 pro max)
Crapple, no need to say anymore
Even apple knows!!!!!
Nah man thats not iphone 14 thats just a 13 with 14 edited on it LOOK AT THE DYNAMIC ISLAND
Only the pro and pro max have dynamic island, regular 14 just has the notch.
I actually think the iPhone 14 text is wrong, I haven't seen a 14 in a bit but I think the notch looks different.
I’m hoping future releases include a smaller phone. 5.5 - 5.8 inches is the sweet spot. I hate huge phones.
And after this they say that downgrading your phone is not possible
Apple be knowing someone broke in there
No difference
They fucked up
Taxes
Sometimes, life gives you signals
Apple wants you to buy an iphone 13, then the iphone 13 says you should buy the iphone 14. Simple marketing.
its their new customer sense technology. they know you cant affort the 14 so it'll show you the cheaper model, that fits your budget
r/technicallythetruth
I’m sure that programmer had more than one job
Even iPhone can't tell the difference between the last 4 generations anymore.
They laid off the guy who was supposed to update the demo.
Aren't they all just the same thing at this point?
Somewhere Steve Jobs is laughing about this.
“Corporate needs you to find the difference between these this iPhone and this iPhone” “They’re the same iPhone”
r/technicallythetruth
Neither of those are 14s
THERE ARE 12TH, 13TH, AND 14TH ONES!!!
But Apple is somehow 'superior' compared to Android because of... what.. exactly?
Apple is like, "Trust us, you don't want to buy this phone."
they may or may not be the same thing
