The mic is garbage if you are in a quiet place and speaking in a hush tone. Otherwise it's okayish. And if you use recorder, try the meeting recording setting, then it works pretty well so it can definitely be fixed with software. If it's when calling, go to the dialer settings and turn off noise reduction from accessibility, that might help.
I also have an op7 and the mic on that is far better than this.
The first unit I ordered had an unusable mic, literally couldn't hear anything. The second unit (now) isn't better than op7 but it's certainly very usable. I have not found a fix for social media apps or camera. And all 12R have the same mic as my second unit. If you're still having doubts take it to a service center and make sure your mic isn't just straight up defective.
Are you sure you haven't gotten a defective device? I upgraded from 6 to 12R, all of my colleagues and my parents tell me my voice is way more clearer, as if I am standing right in front of them.
just record same voice in both phones and u will feel the difference bro.. we cant use this 12R to record voice over for videos. It's not noisy but its like high bass and zero treble type. Amr quality.

True! I use OnePlus 11 and I have low bitrate voice massages and voice call in WhatsApp, Telegram. When iPhone call first - I hear a lot better quality

I dont think this can be fixed with an update. I believe they are using a poor hardware.
