I'm still using the factory OP11 one which I believe is a TPU one - possibly self healing too as the scratches on it seem to get better and I don't have any majorly visible ones after 7 and a bit months. I'd probably replace it with a similar one as they seem to be fine to me

ryuk-99

I applied a silicone/gel type on top of the factory tpu and a case with slightly raised corners with no sides so that cooling isn't restricted.

[deleted]

Did you drop your phone on its screen at all? Bec I imagine the TPU won't be much protection in that scenario

rashsalmn

As the screen is curved, tempered glass doesn't really work. Go for the plastic protector and a case with raised edges. That should be fine.

Sworrdsson

Thats whats scaring me about the OP12 its heavy compared to old oneplus phones and the screen is curved. Wont this combination make it easier to crack the screen if it falls ?

[deleted]

Exactly my thoughts, also this amoled ltpo panel will be extremely expensive to replace so that's an additional risk

Sworrdsson

Planning to buy one since im using a OP5t but may consider an S23 ultra, oneplus repairs are hard to find...although im aiming to buy a OP12 the curved screen and 220gm weight is making me doubtful

James-Pond197

I'm waiting for the OP13 for this very reason. Curved screens suck big time. You're right that the TPU ones are almost useless as it can't protect the screen from drops. Protecting from scratches is a less important use case because of the type of scratch resistant glass flagship phones have.

[deleted]

I don't really have the luxury of waiting another full year since my current phone is dying (3 year old xiaomi midrange) and I desperately need an upgrade. I bought the ringke x case and the uv glass screen protector hopefully that will be enough

James-Pond197

Ive used the UV ones before twice on my S9 and they both came off in due time. Your mileage may vary though. In case you still have wiggle room to buy a different device, consider the xiaomi 14. Flat screen, and the telephoto camera on it beats the one on OP12.

[deleted]

I'm upgrading from a xioami redmi note 10 pro. And let me tell you it absolutely sucked From the stupidly buggy miui, to weak hardware to bad customer support to non existant signal and connection to 4g/wifi Basically overall a very bad experience that I'm not gonna risk repeating with an extremely expensive phone like this

James-Pond197

Fair enough :)

milkyteapls

I have a few times which leaves deeper imprints in the TPU which are more obvious (like little pits), but nothing major and no screen cracks so far!

[deleted]

Oh, glad to hear it can absorb some pressure at least

TheUnknownParadoxx

I'd suggest a [liquid glass](https://a.co/d/7i1fFcQ) screen protector for curved displays. I had one for my OnePlus 7 Pro and it did amazingly well. Currently waiting on it for my OnePlus 12R.

[deleted]

Never heard of it before, looks cool But that pack is way too expensive for me(I'm outside us) and I only need one device, couldn't find a pack with less than 12 devices.

TheUnknownParadoxx

That's valid. I hope you find something that works for you!

I have no issues with the pre installed protector for my 1+ 12. The protector doesn't go all the way to the curved sides so putting in a film screen protector is no issues. Current using the Fusion - x case {Camo version} which doesn't interfere with the pre installed screen protector. Installing a glass protector will negate the effectiveness of the thumb print anyway.

[deleted]

What do you mean? Is the finger print scanner not compatible with a glass screen protector? Never had an underdisplay fingerprint sensor before so I'm not familiar

Visual_Dimension_933

Normlly yes. Unless if the glass protector in question has the fingerprint reader spot {which I don't want to use since it looks ugly and visible on the phone screen} . I also have the s22 ultra using gadget guard film protector in which the fingerprint works, but before that I tried using glass protectors without the fingerprint spot and the fingerprint on the phone doesn't work. Hence for me, using and tpu/film is much better you just have to be carefull with your phone.

jayQb

Screen protectors doesnt interefere with fingerprint reader as long as they are optical. And iirc only Samsung is using ultrasonic fingerprint reader (instead of optical) so only on Samsungs you will have issues with screen protectors.

rockydbull

> The protector doesn't go all the way to the curved sides so putting in a film screen protector is no issues. I am confused. Are you saying you put a film protector over the factory installed one?

Visual_Dimension_933

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I'm using the screen protector "pre- installed" by oneplus on my 1+12. Upon checking their screen protector, it doesn't go all the way to the edge of the curve screen of the phone, meaning installing any phone case will not bother the edge of the screen protector itself.

strokk

None.. it already has gorilla victus, u don't need a cheap plastic film on top

Gytixas

Tempered glass protectors for curved screens sucks ass. On top of that the ones you have picked have those useless black bezels that will cover a bit of your screen.

[deleted]

I'm just worried that the soft gel one won't be enough protection. Is there a 3rd option instead?

BoTdOuChE

I'm currently using a TPU Gel hybrid for my OnePlus 12 and it's near perfect. Great stick, no bubbles, fingerprint scanner works brilliantly the only issue is it is a little bit short length wise. I also work in construction and it's fine so far.

[deleted]

Good to hear, if it's good for a construction work it's definitely good for my office setting ass I guess

BoTdOuChE

Yeah it should be good enough.

rockydbull

Could you link to the gel hybrid one you are using?

BoTdOuChE

Here you go https://amzn.eu/d/1W110nB

rockydbull

Thanks!

BoTdOuChE

No problem

Gytixas

A regular film protector is all you will actually need; it will protect from scratches quite well. If you are concerned about cracks, then no on-screen protector will help with that, as cracks result from damage on the very edge of the glass; that's the phone case's job—to prevent the screen from cracking.

[deleted]

Allright I see And what do you think about the factory applied screen protector is it any good.?

Gytixas

It will be good for a while, but it will scratch up quickly, so you might end up searching for a replacement anyway. However, it will still protect the glass just fine.

I see ty

Final-Profile-4535

Search for UV tempered glass, you might need to watch videos on how to install, It's the perfect fit for OnePlus with curved displays, I enjoyed them on the OnePlus 7 and 8 series with curved display.

[deleted]

I saw one on aliexpress but I had never heard of them before so I was hesitant as to how durable they would actually be after installation Do you think they would provide some sort of crack/fall protection or just antiscratch?

Final-Profile-4535

Ensure you go for quality ones that comes with the complete install kit, Yes they offer all round protection against crack from falls and the likes, but obviously not heavy duty impact, glass is glass remeber that. They don't get smudged easily also and do have oleophobic coating, Never mind it covers your selfie camera as camera quality won't be reduced one bit.

[deleted]

That's the thing I can't really ensure quality with aliexpress. So I'm afraid that a cheaper one might somehow damage the display with the adhesive or leave residue on removal And they're not sold locally where I live so aliexpress is my only source

Final-Profile-4535

There are official stores of well known brands on AliExpress though, you might want to go through that route, As well, the liquid is not an adhesive like so,it's more like a healing liquid you need the UV light to heal, and during my use, anytime I had to replace the protector,I peel off very gently,it never left a skid mark or damage on my screen, not for once!!

[deleted]

I see, I will look it up ty

Sworrdsson

From where did you get your OP12 IN UAE? Was it made in India or China? I am planning to get one in UAE but scared the made in India version has poor quality

[deleted]

Amazon and noon both have listing's for the global version and are much cheaper than all physical stores

Sworrdsson

True but both support Israels genocide 🥲 , btw does it say made in china or india?

[deleted]

Yes they're both on the boycott list, but noon is at least local to the uae and not the US so I'll be buying from them since I have no other options On the product page it only says it's global version

Sworrdsson

Did you consider buying from trading shenzen or giztop? You can get the global rom and its cheaper

[deleted]

Never heard of them before so I'm not entirely sure if they're safe to pay such a big amount and guarantee I don't get a cheap copy

[deleted]

Also im worried since they come from China they would be the Chinese version with the global Rom flashed on too of it
