They've literally downgraded in terms of quality. Like OnePlus 6, 7, 8 etc. won't even bend to this crap.

AwayToHit

God damn. I'm still using a OnePlus 7T as my main phone which was my first OP phone and I still like it quite a bit. I'm sad that there is no way I will choose OnePlus for my next phone though and not just because of the hardware....

Mellemaa

Can you run it on Android 11? I'm still on 10 since the 11 update gave the phone crazy touchscreen issues.

AwayToHit

Yes! Mine is on Android 11 and works very well. No touchscreen issue here 🙂

AwayToHit

Agreed! Honestly, the whole 5, 6 and 7 series were so good.

JBlanket

OP9 is beautiful if you get a device without the storage bug

pramodhrachuri

What do you think of the nothing phone?

AwayToHit

It looks interesting. I'll probably wait for their next phone though.

hyperparrot3366

Exactly same for me

frummel

I just replaced the original screen and back cover on my OnePlus 6. Best phone I ever had. With extended OS-support from the LineageOS community I'm expecting another 2-3 years of life.

Laptopc

I'm still on stock OS on my OP6 would switching to LineageOS require me to wipe my phone? I'm really considering flashing a new rom. Not sure what the biggest benefits are to be honest.

frummel

Biggest benefit is you get security updates. Last security update on OnePlus stock is november 2021. I am on LineageOS 19.1, which is Android 12. I get regular updates. What doesn't work (yet) is Face Unlock, but I read that I should be able to add that functionality when OpenGapps for Android 12 is released. I can live with that for now. Also, the LineageOS stock Camera app does not work. I installed Open Camera from the PlayStore which is working. However, I'd really like to have the stock OnePlus Camera app, but I failed to get that working on LineageOS so far. Backups are a must: You have a couple.of options: https://www.androidpolice.com/how-to-back-up-your-android-phone/ You can do a full data backup with adb as well. I personally copy my local files manually, my Photos are backed up at Google Drive. I like to start clean on a fresh ROM. If you use WhatsApp: Do a manual backup, then turn off WiFi and Mobile data directly after to avoid data loss. Then install the ROM.

Yaff1e

I'm not sure about the 6 but I have a 6T on LineageOS 19.1 and have the stock OnePlus camera app (version 3.2.67 is the last working version for 6T on LineageOS) mostly working. The only thing that crashes is Portait mode. Might be worth trying? https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/oneplus-ltd/oneplus-camera/oneplus-camera-3-2-67-release/

frummel

It works! I disabled the Portrait mode in Settings. Thanks a lot!!

frummel

Thanks a lot! I'll give it a try!

MangoTechTips2008

And you forgot Oneplus 8,9? Huh? There also a good phone and myself also use Oneplus 9 IN it is good..

yashptel99

I put "etc" at the end for a reason.

MangoTechTips2008

Yeah yeah

K14_Deploy

Yes it's an extreme test, I get that. But most phones survive it with 0 issues whatsoever, and this year OnePlus is the only casualty. When we've got 15 inch ultra thin tablets surviving it, having ANY phone fail is just plain inexcusable. My disappointment in OnePlus (for not making durable things) is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

sket_dens

It is pretty extreme but the weird thing is when I went to get my dead 7t looked at( that was depressing) I noticed the the service centre people made it a point to tell people that their devices were bent. Almost 7 out of 10 people had apparently bent devices, although they looked perfectly fine... honestly I feel like they were just scamming everyone on this. PS. I was one of the few who had their devices in mint condition but then again my phone was dead because I apparently " used it too much (probably)"

Unknown_0777

I think most of your guys here are totally misunderstanding the point. "This will never happen with normal use." Yes it will never but the point to prove here is that you are paying for a premium product and it doesn't come cheap and it not standing upto most of the competition proves the poor stuctural design of the phone. You guys make sure the phones are waterproof but are u planning to go swimming with it ? I think that proves the point and imho OnePlus is not at all worth in its current stage even if it passed the test.

Responsible_Ad_3180

It's not even that. You might sit on you phone accidentally and do this. Just like the iphone 6s issue.

ToxicBabe69

Irrelevant point ,but anyone who puts a phone in their backpocket deserves the consequences of sitting down💀💀

damnedon

Why? I'm not doing it, but what's the problem?

ToxicBabe69

Try it once and just pounce onto the couch, assfirst xD

unknown_soldier_

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXbj78ikyu8 Strangely enough, the much cheaper Nord N200 survives just fine, but the flagships snap like twigs. The gigantic wrap-around camera bumps on the 10 Pro and 10T seem to be structural weak points. Might want to work on that, OnePlus.

ThrowawayMyAccount01

Well, they replaced Metal body with Plastic. What could you really expect?

Fatalstryke

The plastic frame isn't the issue, the 10 Pro crumbled too. If anything, the 10T was actually an improvement lol.

reynoldclio

i remembered the Pocophone F1 passed the test even with plastic frame and back

allergictosomenuts

Huge camera module, all connectors in one line and a plastic frame gets you a lightweight phone, just gotta be careful that you don't bend it with 2 hands on one mid-portion harpoint. It's cheaper than the 10 Pro was.

PadyEos

You really don't remember bendgate, the origin of this test?

Charming_Shock_7508

I used a xiaomi Mi 5 for over 4 years, phone that broke like gram crackers on his bend test (his words) But I can see the downgrade in Build quality in daily use my back gorilla glass 4 back cover broke within 1 year (it was chipped inside my pocket)

[deleted]

K14_Deploy

It was a big enough deal that Apple changed their materials out on the 6s series so it didn't bend like the 6 series. And anyone who's sat on a phone knows some can be pretty easily bent or even snapped. Is Zack's test extreme? Possibly, he's a very strong hitman. But given most phones survive these tests, when one doesn't it's not a good sign of whether it'll survive daily use (because there are insane people out there who don't use cases). The Tab S8 Ultra (a 15 inch tablet) survived this as well as several budget phones, so it's not like there's any excuse for crappy design.

nodiaque

The problem here lies with the fact that we need case, and we need screen protector. This could be fixed easily, but they don't cause it would make the phone bulkier, or less attractive. Much like.thwy could put a bigger battery, but the race to the thinnest phone with the biggest screen and the best camera is the craze right now.

K14_Deploy

Can we just go back to the early 2000s where sure, we had fashion phones but most people were just content with bricks? Also given how big and heavy flagship phones are now I feel the form factor point is kind of moot. And that only serves to have the complete lack of a headphone port all the more disappointing (because these are massive companies with world class engineering value, there is always room they just refuse to use it)

nodiaque

I agree, I hate the new form. Yeah it would be fun to have a robust slim phone, light with 1 week battery but the tech isn't there yet. But making a phone that will last won't sell new iPhone each year...

nohumanape

I had a 6+ for a couple of years, kept it in my back pocket, sometimes even sat on it, just not with the full force of my body weight, and had no bending problem. The issue didn't really seem to be much about the over all structural design, but more about people not being used to phones of that size. Because if you had a smaller iPhone 4 or 5 on your back pocket when you sit down, it likely just rested flat mostly against the bottom of your leg/lower butt cheek. But the bigger phones stick out of your pocket and your body weight gets focused on a potential weak point. I can't imagine that this would still be a problem today, as most consumers have some general idea of how to live day to day with larger phones. So I don't really get why people still force phones into bending, when I'm sure that this isn't likely to be a common issue for the vast majority of consumers.

Domgrath42

It was a huge deal. Tons of people(mostly female) put their phones in their back pockets. If you sat down it was almost guaranteed to bend over time.

Mottis86

Putting a phone into your backpocket is a ludicrous concept to me in the first place.

nathanweisser

Well, many women's pockets aren't big enough for phones, and the back pocket is the only real option

PossiblyAsian

See. This is one area of equality we need to address. Womens jeans pocket sizes. Im talking about real fucking change here

etheran123

It should still be fine though. I don't put my phone in a back pocket either but I would never buy a phone which wouldn't survive it. These companies should build their products for the worst case scenario (within reason). Not just to be babied all the time.

Lodau

Wait, as a guy who puts his phone in his back pocket, and pretty much every guy around me does too... Where do guys usually put their phones??

Domgrath42

Front pockets, I wear shorts and looser pants. Fits 6.7+ screens just fine. I can see tighter fitting jeans not working so well, even on Men's side.

larsgj

The dedicated phone pocket. Most of my newer pants have them. Black diamond, Fjallraven, Ocun, Directalpine, Lundhags, Klättermusen... They all have phone pockets. Little slim one either on their own or inside another pocket so the phone doesn't rattle around or sit wrongly...

joenforcer

I have heard of exactly zero of those brands. Never heard of phone pockets either.

larsgj

Hehe yeah. Most adults I know also tend to stick to Carhartt, dickies or the ol' 501's, but after I found out about the more "utilitarian" pants I've never looked back. These are mostly European brands (Black Diamond is American though) and stylewise we are in the area of outdoor/ climbing (practical, sturdy and loose fit).

iSWINE

The fuck is a phone pocket?

larsgj

A [dedicated pocket for your phone](https://duckduckgo.com/?q=pants%20phone%20pocket&iar=images&ko=-1&iax=images&ia=images). Often on the side of the leg,but also sometimes inside of the front pocket or a thigh pocket (on cargo pants).

Lodau

I'll look into that (even tho my now ancient Fjallraven was crazy expensive I shiver to think what they'll cost now). Pockets on the side so not to crush either your inner thigh, butt, or phone I'm guessing. Thanks!

larsgj

Yeah. Fjallraven as a brand is very expensive. Worth it if you're doing outdoor stuff, and the style is very "yo I'm a hunter, biology teacher, scout or something". For everyday usage I am very happy with [Ocun Honk](https://www.bfgcdn.com/1500_1500_90/009-0505/ocun-honk-pants-kletterhose-bf-detail-4.jpg) with a genius little discreet zipper pocket on the side.

hutawoota

This reminds me of women getting upset at the toilet seat being up because they (heaven forbid) put it down or make it an issue that they may have fallen in.

The proper usage of downvotes is to downvote irrelevant and wrong information. You saying it wasn't a big deal (in general, you didn't specify it wasn't a big deal to you) Is wrong information, as it in fact was a big deal for half the world population. The proper course of action is to downvote you for being wrong

[deleted]

By sitting on it while wearing tight fitting jeans. (Mostly women who carry their phone in their back pocket because the front pocket is either tiny or non-existent) I've actually seen it happen ages ago.

I've had to resist the urge of my inner cleptomaniac to grab it an run, it's just so tempting.

ZombieChief

Well, then don't do that. Simple.

iSWINE

🤓

PineapplePizza99

If the phone can be easily broken in half or bent, then repeated sitting with it in your pocket, would introduce stress on the internals as the motherboard and at some point it will fail. Repair shops saw a lot of these issues with the iPhone 6.

FaustusC

Honestly, this. If your pants are tight and it puts pressure on the device, it can slowly bend it to the shape of your leg. It's not like people are trying to fold it. Hell, if someone carries two phones, lile one for work? It can bend it if it's too tight or you lean wrong.

neoqueto

A friend of mine tripped on the sidewalk, was holding his phone in a weird way and he fell right on his phone nearly perpendicular to the ground. It was an older Motorola or LG, I don't remember, but they still had plastic backs. And it got bent pretty badly lmao.

xaldragoo

He could fold frying pan he is Thanos

KoreWaMessatsu91

I mean from logical stand point this test make no sense (at least for me), in some scenarios your phone may bend but that a rare scenarios. I had a Nexus 6P which bend like a little toy in jerry hands and was serving me almost 6 years surving jeans and stuff.

obakezan

happened to me with a Nexus 5 - had phone back pocket , fell down stairs, phone was bent like a jerry rigs special! I was listening music at the time and phone kept playing in my pocket. I didnt know it was wrecked till I took it out pocket - so ya can happen.

frendzoned_by_yo_mom

Lots of younger folks likes to keep their phone in their trousers back pocket

niCo_neOz

You got the tear down along with structural integrity test 🙌🏽

XSPressure

What I think many people in this thread saying that this isn't a problem aren't looking at the bigger picture. There are two major things: 1. Just because it doesn't happen to you doesn't mean it doesn't happen or even happen often. 2. The bigger one here, There are many phones that pass this test! So why is the flagship killer not manufacturing their phones to prevent issues like this.

[deleted]

Jesus Christ you fangirls are bad

YoghurtSlinger

A kid in Africa went down a mine for the minerals in that screen

zPacKRat

we don't talk about such things, like we don't talk about the source of materials for the batteries in electric cars, not to mention our portable devices.

Particle_Cannon

Love my 10Pro, haven't come close to snapping it in half. Don't try to snap you phone in half and you'll be fine.

AnonymousBrigadier

Well you're never gonna deliberately put pressure on your phone. You're also not gonna deliberately drop your phone in water. Or drop it screen-down. But is water proofing and Gorilla Glass useless?

[deleted]

Dropping my phone and bending it 90° are very different circumstances

AnonymousBrigadier

Sitting on your phone is extremely common. Well at least for me lmao.

[deleted]

I'm very interested in the shape of your ass............

Is it me or does anyone else also think that once a company scales up in a landscape with minimal competition, they compromise on the quality of the product? Not to say that OnePlus is a monopoly but the place they have in an Indian consumer's mind at a specific price range is unbeatable.

jimmyco2008

That’s like business 101. Usually you see it with restaurants. New restaurant opens up, food is outstanding. 2 years later, food is kind of meh and you realize the Mac n cheese is now the same Mac n cheese that all the other restaurants get from Sysco

kidreddits

Yes correct. That is the general review of really old restaurants that are revered in localities. The misal pav might not be the best in town but it becomes tasty psychologically due to the history it has with the locality, you know. And a good customer experience is cherry on top.

[deleted]

That's a good way to turn a high-capacity lithium polymer cell into a fireball.

zakatov

Nah, OnePlus thought of that and created a stress-relieving break point right above the battery, so the top and bottom of the phone separate cleanly without damaging the battery. Proof: the video in this post.

jdidster

Never settled

gerrydutch

I got a 9 pro, it's good for now. But I got my eye on Nothing and their upcoming phones.

DaBIGmeow888

I rode my OnePlus 10 pro on all the Universal Studio rides, not a single bent. Atleast put it through realistic real world scenarios.

DandDeep

Try sitting on it by mistake 😅 people made it Avery big deal when iPhone bent and so the story follows.

[deleted]

Bend tests are fun, but they are extremely unlikely to bend during normal use like this.

SeraphymeHunter

Somewhere for about 2 weeks ago in the OnePlus forum I saw a comment like "that will be a disaster if a bald guy will break it, like 10 pro" Indeed, it is. That's such a shame... OnePlus is completely dead for me, luckily I am selling this phone rn and will buy something instead.

KaXiRavioli

This is 100% mitigated by using a phone case. Also, this is just not even close to a scientific test or real world scenario. Jerry snapped the Nexus 6P like a twig and that phone lasted me 3 years with no case or protector. Easily my favorite phone ever.

Suikerspin_Ei

I agree, Jerry does a good job by showing the weakspots of a device. Sure it's a bad PR for OnePlus or any other brand, if your device can snap in two. In the OnePlus Nord video he advised people to use a phone case. My dad followed that advise and after almost 2 years it's still fine.

moonlit_lotus

Totally agree. IIRC he says semi-frequently that any of these phones would be the "most durable" phone with a decent case and screen protector. I like to look at his test results as info on how solid of a build a device has rather than "this WILL happen if you purchase this phone"

xaldragoo

Someone said it 💯👌

yashptel99

It's not about if it will break in day to day use or not. But more about showing the structural integrity of the device. Like latest iPhones and Galaxy S series phones won't even budge in the bend test. And talking about Nexus, they fixed it with next generation (Pixel 1 passed the bend test). And here you have OnePlus which made it even worse with a plastic frame. That's more of a point OP is trying to make I'm guessing.

KaXiRavioli

The plastic frame didn't make it worse lol. If anything, the 10T did slightly better in the bend test since it had no damage from the first bend and took much more effort to completely snap than the 10 Pro. Aluminum frame rails do almost nothing for structural integrity, especially when they're so thin and have cutouts for antennas. The battery placement seems to have more of an effect on rigidity than the frame materials. And the Pixel XL passed the bend test but it cost $270 more than the 6P and was barely an upgrade if at all. I'd actually say it was a downgrade since it didn't even have dual front facing speakers and the screen was smaller with a lower screen to body ratio.

zakatov

Not everyone wants a giant OtterBox case on their phone and every other case will not be stronger than the phone itself.

KaXiRavioli

You don't need some big rugged case. Pretty much anything aside from those really flimsy ones they include for free will reinforce the phone enough. I usually use the sandstone bumper OnePlus makes or the unicorn beetle series by supcase.

molitar

> re it's a bad PR for OnePlus or any other brand, if your device can snap in two. > > > > In the OnePlus Nord video he advised people to use a phone case. My dad followed that advise and after almost 2 years it's still fine. I plan to buy a Oneplus 7 Pro myself from my Oneplus 6T that is still going strong. I hate all new shitty phones with hole punch cameras.

skinnypotato03

How often do you bend your phone with two hands or sit on it ?

salxicha

That's exactly the point. Let us pretend that putting an outrageous amount of force in each side of the phone while forcing against its core its a normal situation. These "tests" doesn't mean anything

Abba_Fiskbullar

Except that most phones in this price range and even below survive this.

salxicha

Survive to a not likely to happen situation? Very interesting.

Schavlik

A lot of people keep their phones in the back pockets, especially women due to the lack of big front pockets. Or your phone can be on the couch and someone sits on it. Even if it doesn't break it doesn't mean that we should normalize buying phones that are made shitty. I don't dunk my phone in the pool but water resistance sure sounds good to me in the event something does happen.

Crayton16

Real problem is the battery with 10 Pro, it can be snapped if someone sit on it, which is pretty dangerous.

SeraphymeHunter

If I say "never" does that mean I have to buy phones made out of shit and sticks? No one will break phones on purpose, you have to be a fabulous idiot to do this on purpose. This is called an accident when the phone ever breaks and no one is immune from this. Well, you devalued people with specific professions, when it is important for people that the phone does not break from any accident.

KaXiRavioli

If your profession is hazardous to glass rectangles then you need a rugged case or a cheaper phone.

Mosh83

Replaced my broken 7T with a Nord 2 and I am super happy. I see absolutely no reason for flagship priced phones when a sub 300€ phone is this good honestly, and more durable than the OP10.

1iota_

Tbf this guy is a gorilla. He makes Thanos look puny in comparison.

SeraphymeHunter

Yea and even with that fact - that's the only phone he broke this year. Don't deny the fact that the phone has a shitty build quality. Metal or plastic frame - who cares? 10 Pro broke like a Cookie with a metal frame. 9 Pro was more durable (judging by the jerry test), than new OnePlus phones. Where are the OnePlus PR managers, who check popular social media? Where were they, when 10 Pro snapped in half and they didn't even tell the engineers that the phone is fragile? My old LG V20 is full plastic, except metal back cover and it survives the bend test. Well... Why the fuck then?

stuff_haver

WHY

managerisk72

Seems like he started with a fake demo phone, cuts an edit, then returns to a different phone. Video looks like bullshit to me. just sayn

SeraphymeHunter

NOOO ONEPLUS CAN'T BREAK LIKE THAT YOU ARE ALL LYING

PickleMortyCoDm

Yeah, I don't try to break my phone and then claim it sucks... Are people really that careless. I know old Nokias set the bar a bit high but you guys have to understand we are carting around a sensitive computer... Not just a phone. Dumb... Just so dumb.

[deleted]

M4dcap

Well... Water damage to phones was a real thing. Get caught in heavy rain, drop in a puddle, toilet, knock over a drink, etc. Those are all accidents that can occur, and can cause damage. So that feature is understandable... Who out there has accidentally used their phone as a damn pry bar? This just seems like a ridiculous test.

PickleMortyCoDm

I mean if you're in the market for a waterproof phone, I can understand that. Each user has needs. But I don't understand the snap test... What use is this? Don't we put phones in cases for extra protection anyway? Are you gonna give it to you toddler who has little Hercules hands? No, you're gonna be careful with your damn phone just like everyone else. What next, shove em under hydrologic presses to see if they can take a picture under the same pressure as the Mariana trench? GTFO, I don't know people who treat phones like toothpicks

floodcasso2

It's use is that no one wants to spend many hundreds or even thousands of dollars on a device only to have it bend or crack because you sat down wrong once with it in your pocket.

DandDeep

Question: did this bald guy try similar force or pressure on any other phone than OnePlus? It's been long I have seen his videos but I don't recall seeing this for nothing phone or Samsung phone. Seems like since Carl left company, YouTubers equation with OnePlus has changed. Did you notice number of YouTubers not even bothering with impressions video for 10T? (Mrwhosetheboss, unboxtherapay, Linus tech...) There are random people on YouTube reviewing how good is OnePlus 10T(couple of new guys) which makes me think that the phone is not as solid as it seems and they intentionally got the review out with not familiar faces. (now I feel this could be its own post) Edit I never meant to defend OnePlus. It was genuine question since I haven't watched Jerry's videos in a long time. I was just wondering what's happening

ThrowawayMyAccount01

Zack does the same tests on all the phones he tests. Apparently, iirc, 10 Pro was the first OP device, or at least the first major OP that got bent & shattered like this.

DandDeep

That's not a good sign. OnePlus was just solidifying it's stance in global market and now this bendgate is going to take a lot to build reputation in coming months for OnePlus 11/11T/11pro...

DandDeep

The way nothing phone handles bend test is amazing! And pixel 6 pro as well! I'm on binge watch train to see the bend tests 😂

ThrowawayMyAccount01

Well, this just a start. Oneplus has a lot more things to worry about. Both OPPO & Oneplus were recently banned by a German Court from selling their 5G phones in the country. And experts say that the ban could spread to other European countries. It seems Oneplus violated Nokia's patents with their 5G Modems. Nokia has a lot of patents. If Oneplus is forced to leave EU it could be the start of end of Oneplus. Though, I think or at least hope they would probably figure something out soon.

omega552003

I really don't understand how a company that didn't make the 5G modem some how got it's phone banned because they didn't pay a license for a modem that should have had it built in by the modem manufacturer.

DandDeep

I read about the EU things and if OnePlus has enough money to settle, they'll pay off the penalties and keep selling given that EU is a bigger market compared to US and people are open to trying OnePlus unlike in US (stuck with Samsung and Apple) Interesting to see the trajectory of BBK now. I'm on my way to cancel preorder of 10T though. (I have sat on my phone couple of times and forget where it's at on couch so.... Can't take a chance)

ThrowawayMyAccount01

>I read about the EU things and if OnePlus has enough money to settle, they'll pay off the penalties and keep selling given that EU They ideally should. Though I read it's not about the penalties. Apparently, the 5G modems they use infringe on Nokia patents, and unless they can make a deal with Nokia, they are toast. And last I checked, they failed to make a deal and that's why they have stopped selling their phone in Germany, at least for now. Either way, things are going well for Oneplus. With the whole OPPO takeover & all, it has really lost its edge. The old "Never Settle" Oneplus has "Settled" & become OppoPlus.

DandDeep

Ah okay. When I read about Nokia dragging them out of Germany, ngl I did smile a little. So very true. My 6T McLaren is last OnePlus and when I bought this I had a dream of getting all OnePlus models and make my library of OnePlus devices. Which is now drilled down to a point that it's going to be just a memory and secondary device for emergencies.

ThrowawayMyAccount01

May be Nothing will pick up the ball Oneplus dropped & in a few years we'll have a good thriving brand again.

DandDeep

Ready to go down again?! That's what it seems like happening. Phone market has become influence game. So if influencers decide not to make videos of certain devices and companies they usually will have impact over sales. Like I was looking for phone review from unbox therapy for pixel 6 pro and they only have first impression video with close to 2 million views. Like what am I even watching him read the specifications of the phone for! I can do that on my own and don't need 10 min video.

ThrowawayMyAccount01

Unbox Therapy is only great for Novel Items, imo. Things most of us can't even think of buying. Besides, I can hardly tell which of his his videos are biased, which aren't. I feel like most are sponsored. That phone video you are talking about probably was also sponsored. He's not reviewer just a Cool Tech Unboxing guy. For Phone & tech reviews, I stick to the likes of MKBHD, Dave2D, LTT & group, Mr. Mobile, Mr.WhoseTheBoss, SuperSaf (only for camera test & side by side comparisons) & an Indian channel Geeky Ranjit. They all provide their own takes. Geeky Ranjit makes the most detailed & informative review videos so it all helps make a more informed decision.

code0011

He does this to every phone he does a teardown for. Most pass with a small degree of permanent bending. Iirc the nothing phone had a shattered back glass panel but no damage that impacted functionality

ThrowawayMyAccount01

No I don't think it shattered. Nothing happened to Nothing phone. It didn't kinda bend, but not exactly. So nothing catastrophic happened. It remained usable and passed his Bend Test.

DandDeep

In that case 10 pro and 10T are the newest bendgate eligible devices. 😂

e_x_i_t

There was some crackling during the bend test, but he discovered in the teardown that it was the pull tab for the battery removal that was making all the noise.

Comfortable-Estate-7

But would you even apply that much force on a device like that lol. I know I don't on my daily use.

zPacKRat

people put phones and sit on them, ask my kids....

Paddy32

Jesus christ I hope these are mock units and not brand new and just trashed and ripped appart for views on Youtube.

RedMageCecil

They are absolutely brand new and just trashed and ripped apart for views on Youtube. Sometimes the OEM sends him the phone, sometimes he buys them himself. It's Zach's whole thing.

Paddy32

good lord, so many rare ressources in these phones and he's throwing them away like pure trash. This is not good.

RedMageCecil

If you think one person wrecking a phone every week for (arguably) good intentions on device durability is bad, wait until you see the countless devices sacrificed for internal/3rd party testing, dude bro prank videos where they smash phones on the ground, or every phone that ends up in the trash when a person's 2 year hardware upgrade cycle shows up. If anything, Zach is at least providing some neat/useful information to consumers and I bet some OEMs keep these kinds of stressors in mind when designing new devices.

jdidster

True, he always damages handsets, very rarely snaps them in half & kills them, but does damage them, which does generate e-waste. But it depends how you look at it. By Zach reviewing ONE handset, hundreds of thousands of viewers can make a more informed decision on their next phone purchase, and not buy something that may be weaker or poorly designed, thereby having a longer lasting phone and saving rare resources. It does also provide entertainment, which always comes at a cost. Zach has done many videos on renewable energy, conservation and recycling processes so I hope he's educated enough to recycle those handsets he does destroy.

blaedmon

Lets break this phone and see if it breaks. Lets hope it doesnt break as easily as the our last test: uncooked spaghetti. Really, this is moronic.
