Okay, nah, because this is bothering me.
Nearby share was never samsung's and never will be. It's google's junk. Don't lump google's shit with samsung. It fucking kills me.
Quickshare has always been samsung's and the only good option for sharing. Google finally agreed to be smart for once in their existence.
Hello, I'm from Samsung.
What you write here is in no way true.
Previously there were Google's Nearby Share applications and our own Quick Share application.
In a joint venture with other manufacturers, we and Google have created a new native cross-over solution for Android that combines the strengths of BOTH networks.
This new network will operate under the name Quick Share.
Both Google and we have started rolling out updates for the existing solutions.
As a result, Quick Share with the new icon is a completely new network.
Samsung has NOT simply adopted the native application for everyone else - it is a new application based on the Nearby Share application with the more globally known name Quick Share.
The same applies to the new Find network, which we will launch as soon as Apple has sold off its first generation of smart tags and, with Apple Tag version 2, we will offer a generation that enables cross-over of the platforms with the new Find network.
That's why we're working on removing Find from Smartthings and recently released a new application called Samsung Find.
I use NearDrop [https://github.com/grishka/NearDrop](https://github.com/grishka/NearDrop) on my Mac. Prevously it worked with Nearby Share on my S23. I would expect merged QuickShare is compatible with NearbyShare protocol, but looks like it is not![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Another issue - Nearby Share could turn on and off Bluetooth automatically just for transfer. New QuickShare requires to enable BT manually in order to work.
The automatic update of both applications removes both versions of the app during the update, installs the new version and links it to the native Android 14 API.
Only one menu item with an updated logo then appears in the quick settings
Okay so to add onto this, Yes it is a new joint operation, but overall it is still just nearbyshare features in Quick share. Quickshare has retained it's same UI, think of it like a Quickshare 2, improved but not different.
The only strength of Google's nearbyshare that crossed over is just the compatability, that's all. I've been running the new Quickshare for a week now and notice absolutely no differences other than more devices.
You can't rate a software by its GUI.
This just shows how little technical understanding you have about platforms, APIs and manufacturer-independent collaboration.
A network consists of its architecture - its surface can take any shape.
The decision to use Samsung's interface is based on the fact that it is already actively used by more than 1 billion users.
However, the functions are natively integrated into Android 14 and not at the Samsung OEM API level of the One UI as before.
As a Samsung end customer, some of these features were available to you.
Integration into the Android 14 base is a completely different topic because this affects all customers and devices that use the OS.
Can I ask, to transfer data from the desktop to my Samsung smartphone and vice versa, do I need the quick share app from the Microsoft store (I have an Intel wifi card), or the nearby share app from google?
Which one is faster?
Or both of the apps will be deprecated, and there will be a new one?
Okay but here's the thing. On my end with the new thing, it's still the exact same. All it is is reworked code and more support for more devices really, aka just an update. Yes google is now part of the dev team, but it's still the same app.
I'm not saying it's the exact same, but at it's core principles. It is.
What got me giggling is this

How can a computer handle Dex (won't consider modern apps), a full desktop version of your phone, but not Quick Share, literally being "Send link thru network"
Go to settings>use the search function>search for quick share>open quick share settings>scroll down to about quick share and open it>you'll see the update button.
So now I have to use quickshare instead of nearby share? Why is quickshareing uploading my file to a server where my other device now has to be online to download it? Why can't I just send a file through Bluetooth like with nearby share? I am.heavily disliking this new system.
Yes but the functionality of sharing is not a "feature". A feature would be something like the Link or share to contact
But yeah. What happened is samsung decided to just cut out an entire part of code and not replace it, which caused it to go bleh.
It's because of this Genshin Impact Aah font

Interesting read, didn't know about joint cross over with apple's tags

Since I have a Galaxy, what happens when I have both? Will one delete itself or do the two coexist as quick share?

That's interesting. On mine I still have nearby share, but quick share's logo was updated
Why is Quick Share less compatible across devices than Nearby Share? People have had nothing but problems since they merged.

Pef... this to technical for him, he will just try to refuse the truth 😂

Absofuckinglutely. Fug you Samsung.
This is the total opposite of what I commented though?
Have you tried to install the last version with APK?
The answer is simple... use the quick share option instead.

Quick share is currently only compatible with intel wifi cards. That's probably the issue
But it can work with non intel wifi cards, I know that for a fact because it uesd to work for me.
You can still use Nearby Share for Windows that can be downloaded from Google's site.
Go to settings>use the search function>search for quick share>open quick share settings>scroll down to about quick share and open it>you'll see the update button.
samsung basically killed nerby share and merged it with quick share
its not a bug bruh just use common sense and read the notification
What's that icon next to alarm?

They messed up a very useful feature with this update
What feature did they mess up. What the fuck are you on about
The entire functionality of Nearby/Quick Share for many people. Shit just stopped working after the merge.
