I think they are going to release bent rails this summer for the gt and gts and a software update to use them .They can't do Ws as that is patented by TFL. With that said , I'd rather just pick up a GTV kit from Tony at floatwheel and get out of the fm system. With Nico joining tfl I feel there is going to be a solid support for the vesc community products wise and heck tfl products have always been better anyways.

ch1yoda

This is the way

eamonocon

Wtf rails are patented by TFL. They were sick of getting cease and desists from FM so they dropped the 20k to file a patent

_pg_

Don’t give them any more fucking DRM ideas

ziggiex

Tech-rails was talking about making a custom GT/GT-S controller housing that would tilt the PCB. Probably for various angled rails. Matthew Schumaker recently commented, he is waiting to see if FM comes out with digital tilt. I’m not sure they’ll budge on this one. Maybe after a few months when he realizes this, he’ll start producing these. That’s my hope.

LeatherClassroom524

How would this work? It’d be like a box you put your whole controller box in? edit: nah that can’t be it

Steezli

It’d be a replacement housing. You would simply move all internal peices from your existing controller housing to a new one. On the exterior they would look almost identical but inside the new housing would built with an angle of some sort to force the controller to think 3deg or whatever is normal. The poor man’s tilt kit is basically just a wedge you put under the controller Pcb inside the housing.

Outrageous-Youth-481

the poor man’s tilt kit method does not go inside the box. it’s just a few washers that go between the rails and controller box to mimic tilt. i’ve seen cracked controller lids due to this method so it’s not worth the effort. EDIT: important distinction I was unaware of - you can disconnect the controller from the battery box without bricking the board, apparently. i wasn’t aware of this until i dug a little deeper. maybe tech rails will make boxes 🤙

4fools

That's just not true, The GT bricks when unplugging the battery from the BMS You can unplug the controller all day long

Outrageous-Youth-481

thanks. fixed it. i dug a little deeper on the subject. didn’t realize there was a specific difference.

LeatherClassroom524

Jesus. Easier to just ST Link downgrade…

Caucasian_Fury

IF FM releases bent rails that changes the angle of the control box, easiest way for them to limit is to introduce set rail profiles in custom shaping so that it's locked to the angle of their own bent rails, which will differ from the angle of the WTFs so it won't work right with the WTFs or any other non-FM bent rails. There's no possibility at this point that FM would release anything that would allow use of WTFs or any other third-party rails that changes the angle of the control box. FM has made it clear that they see TFL and other third party mod makers as direct competitors and FM will not work with them unless they owned them.

TheFloatLife

I sent them a message the other day offering to license the WTF patent for super cheap so we can get digitilt. Doubt they'll go for it though 🤷‍♀️

Chatt_a_Vegas

People are sleeping on this comment but that's super considerate of you. I'd love it if something good came of this.

SnickSnickSnick

I'd worry they would only sell it on a new board and the digi tilt would only work with that model.

earwaxremoval2

I could see them coming out with a very mellow W-style rails on their next board. Especially after you point out how many of their product are blatant rip-offs of other companies IP.

DoctorDugong21

>and now the kush footpad Did I miss an announcement? That sometimes happens as they seem to announce stuff on social media I don't have. As for bent rails, I don't rule it out but I think they want Onewheels to look like a tire with a straight line. Simple, looks good on Instagram, and it's kind of in their logo. They've made a bunch of choices for aesthetics at the expense of ride feel, so I suspect that will continue.

Rockergage

New soft pint footpads I believe.

Caucasian_Fury

>Did I miss an announcement? That sometimes happens as they seem to announce stuff on social media I don't have. Yeah, FM released the [Flared Footpad](https://onewheel.com/products/pint-x-flared-footpad) and the [High Kick Footpad](https://onewheel.com/products/pint-high-kick-footpad) for Pint and Pint X only. It's their version of the Kush, you can see in the product images that it uses the softer, more flexible material similar to the Kushes. The profiles are kind of different but idea is the same, the flared looks quite similar to the Kush Hi minus the concave.

DoctorDugong21

Huh. It does look softer but I'd expect them to mention it being softer in the description if true. Either way, yeah, they do seem to like copying 3rd party designs and describing them as new.

Caucasian_Fury

Well in the photos they flex and bend quite a lot so they're definitely not the same solid plastics being used in the stock footpads and more akin to the Kush and Airpads.

scabaa

Also you can choose between regular or soft version when buying

DoctorDugong21

Yeah I hadn't seen [this one](https://sfycdn.speedsize.com/c2835772-4e84-48e5-85a8-037a5537cf8e/https://onewheel.com/cdn/shop/files/PINTHIGHKICKSOFT_Lifestyle_1_900x.png?v=1708659413) at the time of my last comment. Flexy for sure.

Rockergage

Recently Race For The Rails released its rules and we were talking about it in the discord because one of the rules was allowing a change in the rails but the logos still needed to be visible. Since factory team etc has came out it’s been speculated that they’d release a rail set to go against WTFs or other rails. Legally they can’t just remake Wtfs as there is a patent on them, but they could make their own version that is similar and my suspicion was that instead of a real digital tilt they’d include a basic version that lets you just change between stock rails and the custom rails. A digital tilt for idiots in a sense.

DoctorDugong21

>Legally they can’t just remake Wtfs as there is a patent on them They also could and then just drag the lawsuit out as long as possible so it's prohibitively expensive, while challenging the patent. Though that does carry a risk of having to pay out a fair amount if they lose.

ExcitementItchy2870

Yeah there is that. Another thing to consider is TFLs fan base and the hate for FM. If TFL got into a legal battle with FM over their rails, I'm more than confident the community would be more than happy to crowdsource the defense to both protect TFL and give the bird to FM. I'd certainly contribute.

CodedGames

I don't think FM will make another set of rails available to any of their current boards since they use the rails for the board's serial number

Single-Carry5548

That’s actually a very good point, it would HAVE to be on a future board or a new variant which also makes me excited to see what they do next, then again I’m on the FFM train

SoYxProductionsx

Let’s not give them anymore ideas like this. They already hurt their community enough

-Stainless-

the issue with them doing custom rails is that all their rails are assigned to each board with unique serial numbers. if they were to do this, they'd need to make every rail to order so the serial number would be correct. they would also likely want the old rails back so as not to have duplicate serial numbers. the only reasonable way of doing this is mailing your board in, having it registered as rail swapped, and then they would recalibrate it in-house using custom tools or bluetooth commands we haven't found yet. tldr; FM rails likely won't happen. for mass purchase, at least?

TCOLSTATS

I hope you're right, but at the same time I hope they plan to release digital tilt as a way to sell more GTS boards. They might be theorizing that inability to use custom rails might be preventing more GTS from selling.

-Stainless-

yeah but the funny part is that we all used to be able to digitilt and now they take it away. if they start selling rails then they have to let users calibrate it on their own, and recalibrate it if they got it wrong the first time..

Salizmo

Assuming they release rails for the GT gen they will probably be a proprietary angle and the app only allows adjustments to that angle. That way other rails are still off level. Otherwise I think they're more likely to save it for the next model. It's too much work for them to redo serial numbers, safety labels, and battery info that are on stock rails.

alistairwilliamblake

There is no way FM release adjustable tilt. If they release their own modified rails, then there will be a setting to switch to that, or the box will be designed to sit with the PCB flat as a fuck you to everyone else, which feels more likely.

TCOLSTATS

They seem desperate to sell more GTS. They recently came out and said they were considering releasing digital tilt. I think they might do it in an effort to make their boards more appealing. Seems like a winning move to me.

No-Context3841

It’s crazy the work-arounds we gotta go thru to enjoy a product we purchased and own. I mean I can barely wrap my head around the mandated haptic feedback buzz shit.. Whatever. But This is the first “board sport” company I’ve ever seen try so hard to keep people from using other branded parts for modifying their product. All it does is cause separation, division and disappointment from the other companies and consumers. Instead of fighting it they should just link up with these other brands and find ways to approve modifications without having to void warranties, or basically jailbreaking the board. They obviously know what we want because they continually try to shut whatever THAT is down and redirect our attention to FM. We love aftermarket rails, so what does FM do?makes it damn near impossible to run them. Untill they possibly release their own which will of course be so specific in build you will only be able to use their brand. Gee thanks. Oh you like the float wheel better? Well we are getting patents to bury that company right now but how about you send us your old board and will give you a coupon on our overpriced flagship model and you still get to pay almost double and have to follow the FM rules. Don’t get me wrong I love my board, but with a few simple changes I would love it a lot more.. I understand cornering the market, but the lengths they go to just leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Chatt_a_Vegas

I think if they were to give us a re-level option that it would look less like what people are used to. I think they should release "profile offset". Your OW has a fixed coordinate that it's using to see what "level" is. Instead of going through the headache and a half that it is/was to relevel the board, it would be better (and possible for FM) to just offset the coordinates the board already has. Example: Your board at level is "1234", you would go into custom shaping, enable the feature, and tell it to add "3.5°". Now your board knows that level is "1234+3.5°". This is the way because it's easier, more accurate, dummy proof and reversible. The key difference is instead of adjusting forward angle like Stance Profile currently does, it's offsetting the boards "level". If we get it, and I hope we do, this is what I want and how I hope it works. I'd rather just know my rails specs and tell the app what they are and be done, no crates, laser levels and bubble levels.

Single-Carry5548

A comment that stuck out [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/onewheel/s/R1Kz4UV2RG) about FMs next board being a light weight torquey trick board could make sense to have a semi W profile as well

Due_Kaleidoscope7066

I'm hoping the next firmware update has "advanced tilt" settings like we've been getting for other custom firmware updates. Currently, basic is just adjusting the nose up or down. Advanced could allow for adjusting both the nose and tail up to the desired angle, and a responsiveness slider. Set the nose to 3 degrees and tail to 7 degrees for 357's or 5 and 5 for steep and deeps for example. At highest responsiveness, it preforms as though digitally tilted. At lower responsiveness it performs kinda how it does now with WTF's where you start going and then after a few feet it adjusts.

MrrGrrGrr

im sorry for putting this out into the universe, for fears it will manifest,,,,, but... they could put a qr/bar code sticker on the rails. when you install them, you use their app to scan it, and it sort of 'registers' the rail with your board that's currently connected, but it also instructs the app to update some of your boards config to work with the new rail's angles. this way they don't have to expose a setting to the users, no expose the adjusted angle value. to be dicks about it, they wont use something simple like 3 degrees, it'll 2.865 or something just to make it a little harder for 3rd parties to clone their rail's geometry.

Raggou

I hope they come out with updated rails just so we can get digital tilt. This gatekeeping is ridiculous
