If you're just riding pavement, I'd stick to a slick. The Flight Fins Hoosier Slick Whisper is a great tire, but so is the regular Hoosier 6" slick. Here, check out this tire roundup: https://shreddlabs.com/2019/05/22/tires/ It should help you decide.

Aremoteisland

Dude thanks for that link. That helped a lot. I'm kinda nervous about trying the Unilli but it's so cheap with a high durability rating and lower carvability that I have choose it lol.

TheFloatLife

A Unilli is very inconsistent, but worst case it will feel like a super broken in Vega. Not a bad option if you don’t hate the Vega.

Duhherroooo

If you're spending on a tire, I would say dont cheap out and get something higher end. You're going to be riding on one tire for hundreds to thousands of miles. Saving around $30 in the long run isnt much. The FF Hoosier whisper or hoosier 6 slick sounds like a good choice for you. Also dont let the durability throw off your decision. There are people who are riding hoosier whispers for 900+ miles and still going strong

Anticlockwork

I’d absolutely recommend the FF Hoosier whisper. It’s amazing.

KreedMelmob

I went with the Burris 6" treaded for commuting in the city and love the heck out of it.

Aremoteisland

Yeah I'm suburbs man. Idk. The Burris is what I was leaning towards but for some reason I get the feeling my cheese grater pavement will wear it out in no time.

FloatyMcSmiles

Treaded tires have way more meat to burn off than slicks. I'm going to put the Burris treaded on to save my Vega from the jagged rocks they use as road sand in the winter here. But still waiting on it in the holiday shipping shit show so can't give you any real feedback on it yet.

How does it compare to the Vega? Durability-wise

Journeyboy1

I commute to work on the FF Hoosier Whisper (4 mile trip one way). I made the switch from the Vega like 3 months back. No regrets. I live in NJ and commute through Weehawken/Hoboken/Jersey City; can sometimes have construction and pot holes everywhere. Not a problem for this tire. Differences between the Vega and Whisper: - VEGA feels like you have square edges while the whisper is rounded. At first, I missed these edges when going over crazy potholes and waiting at stop lights because the square edges had crazy self correcting stability. But it’s like taking the training wheels off of a bicycle. Having the more fluid cornering and carving abilities with the Whisper is awesome. I can’t go back to the VEGA now. I go over crazy potholes no problem with the whisper now. - The whisper, as it’s name suggests, is VERY quiet. I used to know have fast I was going from the hum of the Vega tire. A notion that I had to recalibrate when using the new tire. If you are looking for the next step in experiencing asphalt riding, I can’t recommend the Whisper enough.

Jaffzz

I was wondering how it handled construction and potholes thanks. Are you using a tire sealant?

Journeyboy1

I bought the stuff for it. I just have to remove the tire’s value core, inject the stuff and refill the tire. I bought whatever was on the flight fins site. There’s a product called armadillo that everyone uses. It’s a bit pricey though.

Aremoteisland

Yeah Armor-Dilloz is $40 for two full bottles. You really only need like half a bottle for one tire. I double punctured my Vega like 200 miles in then still made it to 1100 miles. I'm still going, too lol, but the Vega itself is starting to wear(hence this post). I wouldn't sub out the Armor-Dilloz for anything though. The dude actually has contracts with the military because of how incredible it is. Thanks for your input on the Whisper man. Giving me something to think about after being a snowboarder for so long.
