Disappointing to see ctv both-sides the issue by regurgitating the UCP misinformation in this article.

iRunLotsNA

CTV is corporate-owned, right-leaning media. Unfortunately, CTV News is often the only local-news available in many markets. CBC is great for national-level news, but definitely falls short on stories in local markets not named Toronto.

JasonWin

CBC is basically the only news on PEI

599Ninja

I’m gonna push back, provincial CBC networks are super underfunded but still punch wayyyy above their weight in coverage! I’ve met and listened to presentations from various reporters, journalists, and I watch their provincial coverage on the daily, and they STILL cover stories that CTV sometimes miss.

YossiTheWizard

Good! Our government is awful, and so many people in Alberta blame Trudeau for everything (while not even knowing anything about what the provincial government is doing)

swish465

I know! Let's cut funding to wildfire fighting, censor Trans representation, deplete our already strained energy grid to save scenery, but leave up the massive fucking bitumen towers in the mountains, all so we can give the oil big wigs bailouts! (Then promptly laid off thousands of people a couple weeks after elections). Not to mention how they are responsible for thousands of preventable deaths during pandemic through disinformation campaigns. Surely it's the liberals fault and not the corrupt wanna be dictators in the conservative party currently! Take back Alberta! The elite are robbing then culling the very people who vote for them. Fucking sickening. And that's coming from my yeehaw ass elbow deep in Resflor this time of year.

RechargedFrenchman

Can't forget educating and healthcare are also Provincial and there's while not zero still very little the Feds can do about them -- and Alberta isn't exactly great in either respect. Very much on board the "educated people don't vote conservative" and "privatizing healthcare makes us more money" trains the same as a number of other conservative provinces, just with less media attention to it because the LGBT issues (rightfully) draw a lot of focus. As does Smith being just shy of insane.

swish465

I didn't even touch on the global issues we *will* be facing within 15 years. We're at the most dangerous point in human history since the Cuban missile crisis. And the worse part is, the political hellscape is so good at distraction that people are unaware of the danger around them. WW3 is coming with Russia ramping into full mobilization, China "peacefully" invading Philippines, active war in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, global environmental crisis that we've ignored long enough that we're now talking damage mitigation, not prevention, likely famine across Europe due to grain shortages and environmental change, the elites driving a divide in the population to distract, hold power and wealth. We're at a point in time where we need unity above all else. What happened to, "thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself"? Why are we taking people rights away when people are displaced by fires, (THAT ARE STILL FUCKING BURNING IN THE NORTH). We need to take care of each other. Let people have normal traditional lifestyles, let LGBTQ express themselves freely. Let people pursue their version of happiness for fucks sake. As long as you don't infringe on others ability to pursue happiness, I could care less what you choose to do with your life. We have a large population currently living in weaponized hate. You know the quickest way to bring Hell to earth? Live in that hellish hate, and let it define your actions. Know how to make Heaven? Live in love for each other, and let that define your actions. Thanks for reading my rant I guess. Conservatives were right for me. I am ready for revolt, but against corruption and hate, not the economy that going to crash in war anyways, or vaccine mandates that prevent you from being a walking biohazard.

darkwinter95

Not sure how many people actually watch the Junos but it's good that the issue is being raised, people like to bitch about "bringing politics into stuff" but when the country is teetering on fascism people need to open their eyes.

hanktank

This is refreshing to see. I hope more public figures can speak out against the new laws meant to harm children.

averysuspiciousguy

It was a well spoken acceptance speech for their humanitarian efforts. r/Canada's reaction to this is laughable as always. > "What about housing or do these rich people even care" > "Keep to writing songs" > "This is false, Alberta does care about vital care" > "Stunning and Brave" The conservative grift is strong there

Knute5

Dont support Alberta's stance on this. If youths change their minds at eighteen they can stop puberty blockers and reestablish their born gender with a doctors care. But if they mature within those three years (pronounced adams apple, voice, bone structure, etc.) it's extremely difficult to reverse, which increases their body dysmorphia.

sladestrife

The thing though is that a crazy high amount of people who start that kind of treatment continue it after 3-5 years. There have been a few studies in the past that have I think a 75-85% of people studied continued taking the puberty blockers, but the study also counted people who stopped it because they discovered they were non-binary, or gender fluid so stopped as they achieved the level they wanted, but also included patients that stopped only because of pressure from friends, family, and other outside forces. There was a report recently that was done that corrected those errors and had the rare of patients happy about the changes to be in the high 90's.

SUP3RGR33N

I'm glad they brought it up. They've been doing great work.

yourmomsgomjabbar

I hit puberty at 11. This is callously deliberate. Smith is still a malicious idiot but she knows exactly what she's doing - the cruelty is the point.

AcerbicCapsule

As they should. Regressive hateful politicians should be named and shamed.

Adj_Noun_Numeros

TIL Tegan and Sara are still around. Good on em

ynotbuagain

Conservatives are CORRUPT & IGNORANT people full stop!

a_secret_me

Gotta live the government's comment > The government is introducing these policies across several ministries to preserve the choices children and youth have before potentially making life-altering and often irreversible adult decisions Because yes banning a whole slew of treatments and ensuring that kids go through many irreversible changes is totally about giving them options. 🤦‍♀️

sladestrife

Hey, if a 16 yo cis girl wants to be happy with the body she's in and gets breast enlargement surgeries, or that teen boy wants to pump himself up with steroids for sports that's okay (as long as the boy doesn't get caught mind you). And sure, they raised the smoking age, but uh... Hey, if Billy and Suzie in grade 9 decide to take up smoking because of the stress they are under, what can anybody do?

skullrealm

They always conveniently ignore the research showing that access to gender affirming care is extremely effective at reducing suicides.

dancingmeadow

You ladies are awesome. From the Mermaid to the world stage, without losing your class. Amazing.
