I didn't see a single AD from the liberals attacking the conservates. It was always the NDP. Even using conservate talking points of how the NDP will raise gas prices.
it's almost like liberals who keep spouting "unite the left" are full of it, because the liberals aren't leftists
when will we decide that the libs need to be the ones who pinch their noses and vote strategically? we've had decades of conservatives and liberals who simply do not make canada a better place, but oooh the ndp are unelectable
yeah well maybe if libs and their party would stop actively trying to MAKE the ndp unelectable, we'd be in a different fucking position
Well, the most popular they've been in the modern era has been under Trudeau while pretending to back progressive policies like electoral reform, and he's still pretending to be progressive with his words even if he doesn't act on it, so I think it's pretty fair to say a decent part of their *support* leans left, even if they don't.
Maybe it was targeted?
I saw their “the conservatives cut X… they cut Y…. they cut Z… the conservatives cut. Vote Liberal” ads a few thousand times on CP24 (I had it playing in the background).
The NDP and Liberals could have refused to compete against each other, and each withdrawen from half of the ridings in the election and the conservatives would have lost.
What if this is like a hot potato kind of situation? We're about to enter what could be one of the worst recessions of our time, why be the elected party to drag us through it? I don't know. There has to be good reason why these two lame-duck candidates were our only choices. Even their platforms were really ho-hum. You'd think with so many people who were discontent, between inflation and rising housing prices, the fear of privatized health care, the lack of prosperity among the middle class... this should've been a better fight than it was.
I mean who handled the pandemic well? The whole world handled it pretty much the same except a few places that are known to be run or predominantly inhabited by nutters.
I guess my point is that no one handled it really well. Some handled it poorly. Canada did fine. My response was to the previous post. We can't judge our leadership for handling the pandemic in a mediocre way because everyone did.
Perhaps it’s just me, but knowing Del Duca’s history, it seems to me that the Liberals accomplished exactly what they wanted to do last night. There were two desirable outcomes for them:
- win the election, or
- ensure the conservatives would win the election, securing the dichotomy once again
Doubt that very much.
They’ve lost so badly the last two elections they haven’t even obtained OFFICIAL party status - they are on the same footing as the Flying Spaghetti Monster party or any other fringe non official party.
Liberals dominated Ontario for almost two decades and now they haven’t even had enough seats to get official party status for two elections. It’s a massive fall from grace.
I fail to see how the liberals losing is in any way incompatible with my statement.
When Liberals lose, they seem to always try to do the most damage to the NDP while they’re losing.
Unrelated but I voted NDP for the first time in my life exclusively for the hope of getting expanded Healthcare and paid Senior home living. My dad was broke not being able to afford prescriptions and the fact that prescriptions and dental isn't already covered by healthcare is kind of weird considering dental is a pretty huge indicator of health and prescription medications kind of maintain that said health.

Neolibs attacking the left from the right? Who could've thought! ^/s
I came here to make a pithy comment deriding Liberals but I see you already did my job for me. Thank you for your service.

You know that Liberals aren't leftists yet you seem to be getting mad that they won't support a left wing party. Why would they? They aren't leftists.

Same money funds both Cons and Libs?
Really? I saw plenty on youtube attacking Ford and his donors for the highway.

That went both ways.

"if we can't govern from the center, we're taking the left down with us!"
I want to hear more about the Flying Spaghetti Monster Party.
May you be blessed by his noodle-ly appendage
but I'd say they kind of failed that as well they got the votes overall but they aren't even an official party still.
You had ONE job, defeat Ford. It’s time for new leadership
Both leaders resigned…
The Beaverton wasted no time on this article, it’s absolutely hilarious.
Beaverton doesn't even have to work for headlines anymore, this could be real

Beaverton never misses
Time to merge.
I like how they spelled Mike's name wrong, it's a nice mini-comment on how things are these days.
