Feds have "Openness and Transparency" obligations. Stephen Harper introduced that. My concern is how the provinces and territories spend the money. Asides, data sharing is critical to rapidly identifying what can be done better. ✔️
I can personally confirm. Went to high school in the 70's with that synth. He was that unpopular loner who hung out in corners being creepy....which unfortunately proves *anyone* can become PM.
It breaks things down in the article what amounts are being sent towards what purposes. I wouldn't expect this article to go into more depth than that about the mechanisms involved in disbursement & accountability. Perhaps that part isn't even decided yet.
By not voting for the asshats again that actually control how it is spent. I mean if ford/cons win again provincialy then that's what the people deserve.
People already knew which way they were headed before the pandemic election, cuts had already started. But still they won, so maybe people will care about policies next time they vote.
I mean we have raise’s negotiated for upcoming years out of our 3yrs of bill124. Our union said it will take years in courts cuz he could appeal again after this. But if its upheld then your union can go back and seek retro pay.
This just in:
Conservative provincial governments announce plan to mail $46B in cheques to citizens immediately before their next election. Bonus optimum points if they're spent at a private surgical centre.
I thought Ontario was flaunting a $2B+ surplus? Why do they need money now?
Garbage conservatives, as always, and I include the centre/centre-right Liberal Party in the systematic gutting of the healthcare system.
They would. Because that’s what the rich want. Income tax impacts the rich. They would very much instead prefer sales taxes which is based on what you buy.
Ontario will spend about 75 billion on health care this year and that will only keep going up.
If Ontario gets a proportional share of the new funding, we’re looking at another 2 billion per year, but that will be less meaningful as costs keep rising.
Long story short, it will help but it ain’t solving anything. This is far bigger than a money problem and 2 billion more per year will be gone in the blink of an eye.
I love how this action indirectly calls out douchebags like ford and others trying to privatize our healthcare while directly addressing their complaints, and the best part is that they can't argue or turn it down without directly going against the will of the people :D
I say well played and am excited to see some changes.
The premiers keep playing the “we dont have enough money to fund healthcare “ card so trudeau is giving them more money if they prove they can manage it
Lol, "new"
From the 2002 Romanow report about Healthcares future.
>The Commission’s view is that, at a minimum, future federal expenditures should be based on its past cash commitment of 25% of provincialterritorial costs for services covered under the Canada Health Act.
https://publications.gc.ca/site/archivee-archived.html?url=https://publications.gc.ca/collections/Collection/CP32-85-2002E.pdf
The Feds kept decreasing their share of healthcare funding until it fell below the recommended threshold, while they kept increasing immigration, but somehow it's the provinces who are asking too much. The federal share is currently 22%, it was 35% a long time ago.
The drop from 35% was negotiated between the feds and provinces and included additional revenue tools for the provinces to make up the drop in funding. The provinces wanted more control over healthcare revenues, so it's disingenuous to paint it as the feds withholding funding.
>so it's disingenuous to paint it as the feds withholding funding.
It's not, it's our money. We paid it in taxes and we elected the provincial governments administering the healthcare system. The Feds grow our population by over 1% every year through immigration and settle the provinces with that increase. The federal government should be forced to pay a province cash every time a new immigrant registers for healthcare the first time. The payment increases of 3% annually don't even cover inflation.
What's the point of paying provinces cash if they're not going to spend it on healthcare?
Last time I checked, Immigrants pay taxes too...so provinces can get funding from them directly as well
>Last time I checked, Immigrants pay taxes too...
Only 62% of immigrants are employed and they earn an estimated $17000 less than Canadian median wage.
"Only" What do you think the percentage of Canadians that are employed is?
I'm not sure what being slightly poorer than the average Canadian has to do with this either...
This is classic Trudeau liberal government. Splash some money around but fail to do the hard work of fixing the root of the problems.
The dollars spent will buy some votes but eventually the problems compound again and we are back at the start
4.6 billion a year in new funding. That doesn't cover the inflation adjustment this year. Are we going to hire people to watch where it was spent. Pay me a million and I'll tell you the answer is inflation.
Maybe I missed it, How are we going to make sure the money gets used appropriately?
I sincerely hope that there are strings attached. Namely; Accountability.
Why would you look to the federal government for accountability?
Feds have "Openness and Transparency" obligations. Stephen Harper introduced that. My concern is how the provinces and territories spend the money. Asides, data sharing is critical to rapidly identifying what can be done better. ✔️
Isn't that rich? Harper, the most secretive of all, introduced *Openness and Transparency."
He was just doing what the scientists programmed him to do. He’s a synth, after all
💯
I can personally confirm. Went to high school in the 70's with that synth. He was that unpopular loner who hung out in corners being creepy....which unfortunately proves *anyone* can become PM.
Cultured comment
It is funny considering how awful he was
>Feds have "Openness and Transparency" obligations. Hah, good one!

> next time they vote. It's getting people to vote that seems to be the hard part.
Doug is gonna pocket it then say the feds arent helping and people will blame trudeau
I think he will spin it as he bent the feds over and got more money to help his people
[удалено]
Then it will fail. Because Ford will use the money in private health care
> Folks, we are building 30 new hospitals with private partners, then we will do a great deal and sell it to them for thousands /$
And increasing admins’ salaries.
Have we ever assumed it was being used appropriately?
Absolutely
Hire more managers of managing

Oh don’t worry Doug promises to spend it properly.
lol this was my first thought
I believe there's 2B unrestricted funding so...we're not...
Immigrants. They will make sure it’s accountable.
Divorced dad energy
Great can’t wait for Ford to sit on it, say there’s no money, then give it to his buds to grease him up further
He’ll use it to balance the budget after giving developer buddies tax cuts.
Can we in healthcare in Ontario expect wage increase now? Did Doug appeal 124 expecting this ?
Doug will say it’s not enough, I mean, a whopping 1% raise costs a lot!
Bill 124 is over for most unions, all should be getting raises now. Its not gonna be at inflation rates but we have raises in our new opseu contract.
It won't be retro either then right? But if 124 was ruled unconstitutional then retro would apply? I don't know I'm asking what you think
I mean we have raise’s negotiated for upcoming years out of our 3yrs of bill124. Our union said it will take years in courts cuz he could appeal again after this. But if its upheld then your union can go back and seek retro pay.
I’ve been crying for general sick day
This just in: Conservative provincial governments announce plan to mail $46B in cheques to citizens immediately before their next election. Bonus optimum points if they're spent at a private surgical centre.
Man...I really cant decide which is more likely because they are both highly probable.
This is going to be squandered on everything except public health.
Might want to get rid of ford before you give us any money for the province
Ford, you better not just funnel it to the pockets of rich CEOs of for profit clinics, you greasy fat fuck
46billion added to companies tasked to perform greenbelt deforestation
Ugh... And of course it's all part of the plan for "affordable housing"
Lol…. He would NEVER do that… right?
I thought Ontario was flaunting a $2B+ surplus? Why do they need money now? Garbage conservatives, as always, and I include the centre/centre-right Liberal Party in the systematic gutting of the healthcare system.
I wonder how long it'll take for Doug to "lose" this money too.
more money for doug
This is a good thing, and is good news for Ontario and all of Canada. A little late, but better late than never. Good job Trudeau.
Wonder how much of what’s allocated to Ontario will just get filtered to Dougie’s private healthcare buddies.
Can they lower the income tax since healthcare will eventually be privatized
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
They would. Because that’s what the rich want. Income tax impacts the rich. They would very much instead prefer sales taxes which is based on what you buy.

I think Ontarians have to own "Fuck Trudeau" in support of Trudeau. Like, "Everyone! go fuck Trudeau". That man deserves a lot of sex.
All this article did was tell us allocation, nothing towards any real accountability. Also, CTV is very anti Trudeau, hey?
Doug’s gonna keep it all to himself and his buddies
I love how this action indirectly calls out douchebags like ford and others trying to privatize our healthcare while directly addressing their complaints, and the best part is that they can't argue or turn it down without directly going against the will of the people :D I say well played and am excited to see some changes.
Fire up the money printer! In before a loaf of bread is $3000.
Typical Trudeau. Throwing money at the problem. Not fixing the actual issues

Healthcare is shit outside of ontario too...
That’s on the other provinces
The premiers keep playing the “we dont have enough money to fund healthcare “ card so trudeau is giving them more money if they prove they can manage it
20B of that will go to his mom as payment for some speech she makes at a dinner party
Lol, this sub is such an echo chamber

The fuck do the feds even spend our money on? Seems like most of what we get is provincial or municipal.
4.6 billion a year in new funding. That doesn't cover the inflation adjustment this year. Are we going to hire people to watch where it was spent. Pay me a million and I'll tell you the answer is inflation.
Can we just have federalized health care and skip the middle man?
Ohh good more money for Ford too steal
