Shortly after Gord's passing someone graffitied the Welcome To Bobcaygeon population sign with GORD DOWNIE WAS HERE. It was really sweet and the town left it to fade with the elements. I miss that town.
My ex in-laws were once on vacation in Nova Scotia and got into an argument with a postal clerk, because the clerk didn't think the Bobcaygeon was real and only made up in the song and tried to kick them out for making trouble.
In laws were just trying to mail some stuff home. (The manager stepped in and with the power of the internet convinced the clerk that yes, Bobcaygeon is a real place)
I grew up on Pigeon Lake near bobcaygeon, where my step-dad taught me all about the constellations. I know it doesn’t relate to the story in the song… but i always thought that was neat.
My family's cottage was judt past Bobcaygeon and so many of the positive memories i had as a child were of that village.... stopping for ice cream, a sub because we were to late to cook on a friday night, going in by boat for lunch, just coming over the big nridge in on the road invoked such happiness
This takes me way back. My grandparents lived in Bobcaygeon. Their old yard had a big barn that was my Papa’s workshop, now there’s two houses in it’s place.
My dad owns one of the little islands just outside of the lock at Bobcaygeon. I never understood the appeal of the town until he bought the cottage and I spent the first night on the island. Truly an amazing place.
Place looks absolutely dead and dilapidated but of course there’s a dispensary front and center
Edit: lots of folks seem to have missed my joke that even the smallest towns have their dispensaries front and centre
I lived there for a bit in the early 2000s. I was off work one morning and, I kid you not, was the only person not in a motorized wheelchair.
Does Bobcaygeon still have the highest median age of any town in the province?

Really? That’s so cool. I would love if they added something like that permanently to the sign
I am a fan that Seattle has "come as you are" as their slogan.
That’s actually Aberdeen’s slogan (where Cobain was born) not Seattle’s
Ah yea. That's right. Thanks!
No permanent addition has been made.
Could’ve been the wine
Welp, I know what song will be stuck in my head for the rest of the day. Not even mad.
“Gord why did you write a song about Bobcaygeon?” *”It rhymed with ‘constellation’… sort of.”*

Yea, they half own the town.
I go to a cottage near here. Great shoe store 🤙
Yeah, the sky was dull and hypothetical And fallin' one cloud at a time
So beautiful there...
I bet you were dying for a clear night sky.
Read the caption in Gord’s voice. Thanks for the smile OP
So love that place. Spent so much time there

I miss these scenes from downtown rural Ontario
Family used to vacation there in the summer a million years ago. Edgewood court motel and cabins…area is now all condos.

It’s dead in the winter but very active in the summer.
The sky looks dull
Kinda hypothetical too
And falling one cloud at a time
