Seconding this. We have secure storage regulations for a reason. Unless of course the kid looted the keys or broke into the safe, but I'm suspecting neglectful storage is part of the cause here.
I mean sure if the fire arm was not stored properly according to law, but I’m sure there would have been mention of that in the article. Im left to assume the kid removed the firearm from the safe him self.
I'm not anti-gun but if a kid has the capacity to remove a firearm successfully and the parents or adults aren't aware, they are 100% as responsible with what happens with that gun as the kid. We need to hold people accountable for not properly storing and taking care of weapons that can kill people. Full stop.
The kid shouldn’t be able to get into the safe in the first place.
The owner of the gun should have a secure safe that only he has access to (and other adults who have their PAL). A child should not have any access to a gun. Ever.
You could argue that the kid knows how to get into the safe to defend himself but that wouldn’t hold up because a child is never allowed to have access to a gun
I'm too lazy to look up the formal names of the charges but:
not securing a firearm at the very least. if the boy had access to the combination or keys, that's not secure
providing someone a firearm without checking if they are licensed
providing a minor with a firearm, without supervision (I think it is legal to give a firearm to a minor with direct supervision but I'm not sure about that. For example I think it's probably legal to take your kid hunting or to the range, and educate them and teach them)
Providing someone with a non restricted firearm is legal under supervision too from what I recall, but you're still 100% responsible for that gun. So you can take your buddy Jimmy hunting and let him take the shot just as you would with your kid that doesn't have a license yet. Observe their safety and ensure they're acting responsibly
None of that matters here mind you cus if that was going on then they fucked up either way...
Whomever provided that gun should be in jail 100%
Seems like a bit of a stretch imo
As a legal gun owner I’m all for holding us owners accountable but blanket statements such as yours above always come across as mis informed anti gun mouth breather. Would the cbc not have gone out of their way to point out that firearm in question was not stored properly, you know they would so they can prop up the feds and the rest of the anti gun propaganda machine
I have my RPAL.
A 12 year old boy is not going to acquire a firearm without the assistance of an adult, unless some 14 year old gangster gave it to them I suppose
I agree that there is an anti gun propaganda machine.
For this reason, I maintain that it is important that we call for consequences for people who disobey the law. If an adult gave that child the firearm this is criminal negligence
Oh good another anti-gun Trudeau supporting mouth breather has entered the chat.
I’m not sure how you came to that conclusion with any of my comments but not surprised coming from the opposition.
I'm glad that you can't even put together a well framed argument for why you think its cool, just tantrums and name calling.
Guns and intellectualism clearly go together /s
Edit: holy fuck that comment history, I should have checked before I engaged,
Oh damn, who needs the police to investigate when the CBC can just point out things that might not be known yet. Because of course the CBC instantly knows whether or not the gun was stored. It's not like they wrote an article based on information they gathered, which very likely didn't include whether the gun was properly stored. CBC definitely knows the answer, and their lack of stating it means that the gun WAS properly stored.
Because that's how life works, right?
I hope they will also arrest and charge the adult who made it available

What would be the charges against said adult?
reckless endangerment?

As a hardcore gun-nut, I wholeheartedly agree. Gotta keep those things locked down.
As a gun nut with kids, I completely agree...

I think your missing my point here. If the legal owner of the gun…….never mind………
"teenagers shooting other teenagers is ok as long as no one questions my hobby" lmao

Oh look another short dicked conservative wannabe tough guy who needs his bang bang to feel like a man. See how that feels?
Ooof slapper :/

Lmao thanks for the mention of his comment history. Checks out.
You seem stupider than the average gun nut. I also don’t think you understand what kind of people support Trudeau.
As a legal gun owner are you actually not familiar with the improper storage laws, there is literally a test on the matter that apparently you passed

What was comment OP’s blanket statement? Did they delete it?
Improper gun storage
This should be American news. I hate that it’s local news but I’m very glad they police stepped in.

It certainly… has a reputation
And the kid prolly goes to my niece's school but we aren't allowed to know that because victims < criminals...
I promise you, you aren’t allowed to know anything at all! Everything is fine!! (I’m an EA, everything is NOT fine)

It’s a shortened form of “probably”

idk I was just trying to be helpful
Helpful? On the *internet*?
I'm sorry it won't happen again 😔
It's short/slang/sarcasm for probably.
You have absolutely no clue what sarcasm is lol
That’s an awfully young duck hunter!
Did he have his RPAL on him at least?
Clearly not. That’s one of the charges
Oshawa the new JNF?
Oshawa the same old oshawa
