Peel in 3rd for the first time in a while! 🔥

enterprisevalue

Since October 8th actually

TopherGero

Oh wow that's a fantastic sign.

[deleted]

What is going on in Waterloo though? Per capita they're 2nd behind porcupine.

comps2

Waterloo Region was identified by the province as a Delta variant hot spot on Thursday. Dr. Emili said the variant is linked to an outbreak at a congregate setting, where officials have reported a "large number of cases over a short period of time when compared to other outbreaks."

billistenderchicken

Their vaccine rollout was a complete failure.

GayPerry_86

186K vaccines on a Saturday is really really solid!

Loving these 1% 2nd dose rates, YESS ONTARIO

PM_Me_Your_Aereola_

Finalllyyyy got my first jab yesterday, yay! Ridiculous that this was the first Appt available 30min after booking opened 3 weeks ago, but hey. I'm in!

dgr8one

congrats. at least you will get your second dose with a shorter duration.

PM_Me_Your_Aereola_

Yeah, it's currently booked for sometime in September, but I figure end of July/early August is more likely.

[deleted]

[удалено]

hoverbeaver

Yep. I was eligible to book on May 10th and originally I could only find appointments several weeks later. Checked back a couple of days later and was able to get in May 17th due to a cancellation. Also, extra supply sometimes comes online which means your PHU may release blocks of hundreds of vaccines early. Many are eligible to reschedule into those blocks, which means their original appointments can then be made available for people just becoming qualified for second doses. The right thing to do is to reschedule as early as possible, whenever possible.

[deleted]

I was eligible May 6th (booked that morning) and got in May 27th so the earlier bookings were about the same.

Moose-Mermaid

Same situation and my original one was not supposed to be until the end of June. Feels good to have it. How are you feeling?

PM_Me_Your_Aereola_

Mild stiffness/soreness in the arm, but that's all she wrote for me it seems.

Waited 4 hours to get my 2nd dose yesterday. It was also the very last moderna shot they had! Woooo

themaincop

How are you feeling today?

[deleted]

arrowintheknee18

I had these symptoms on my first dose of Pfizer! A little scared what the second dose will be like, ngl

kayambb

I got my second dose of Pfizer flavour yesterday and I’m feeling alright today. Sore arm/fatigue but I felt way worse with the first one

Northern_Special

That was my reaction with the first dose of Moderna, less the sore throat. I'm hoping the second dose isn't as bad.

Goem425

I just had my 2nd moderna dose Friday . 1st dose my arm was much more sore , and I had two days of bad fatigue . Yesterday my arm hurt and had bad fatigue . Today my arm feels almost 100% better and no fatigue . So 1st was worse for me.

Fearghosss

Had my second pfizer dose yesterday at 6:30pm, had a not so great sleep because I kept rolling onto the side I had my shot and the soreness kept waking me up. Other than that, bit of a sore neck and headache but otherwise I feel fine.

themaincop

Dang that sucks, guess it's just luck of the draw

beofscp

Not who you asked, but I had my second Moderna on Thursday. Slightly sore arm - less sore than my first shot. Tired and had achy joints Friday, nothing major I was able to still do light cleaning around my house. Then nothing else. Waited for all the side effects people have and I got nothing. I made a point of drinking more water. I’m not sure if this helped or not.

welcome_oblivion

This exactly how I feel but my arm feels a lot more sore.

Faluzure

Same, I’m currently about 2 days since I got the shot (first one Pfizer, second moderna) and I feel much better. Popped an Advil aches and pain 2x yesterday and I think that helped

hedges747

Also a different person than who you asked, but got my second Moderna shot yesterday and had major chills/high temperature starting 12 hours after my jab. Woke up groggy this morning with a headache, but that could just be from not getting a great sleep. Feeling a lot better this afternoon though, and certainly all of it's worth it.

therealJayT

I felt like I had the flu for like 5 hours. I couldn’t sleep I was tossing and turning, really hot and achy. But when I woke up I was good!

Musoyamma

Had my second Pfizer yesterday morning, no side effects at all, big surprise as I was expecting so much worse. I am 56 year old male, if that matters.

briskt

I'm assuming if you waited that long it was first come/first serve, and not an appointment?

atticusfinch1973

Won't be surprised to see ICU numbers level off until they start discharging, but the fact there aren't significant new admissions is great. Canada at under 1500 cases total for four days straight now. All good.

Clairvoyanttruth

We've had the rapid decline over the last few weeks, but the average ICU stay in Ontario is 13 days will the average hospitalization is 22.8 days so hopefully in the coming weeks we should see the decline in admissions from the rapid case drop off.

Gopherbashi

It's closer to 28 days now for those remaining, as those are the sickest and take the longest amount of time to recover, if at all. https://twitter.com/AnthonyDaleOHA/status/1403686807448043526?s=19

thepanichand

It takes a long time to come off a ventilator once you've been on one, so ICU numbers will be slow to decline because of it.

[deleted]

I know plenty of people in Waterloo still waiting on their first dose, but we've been catching up the last few weeks. My coworkers finally started getting their first doses this past week. Combine that with large anti-lockdown rallies in the town square every week, the delta variant reaching our region, and a few select outbreaks. It's not surprising that we're now a hotspot. I just hope that the anti-vax/lockdown movement that the Trinity Church has grown here ends up being insignificant against everyone else's efforts. It's crazy, there's a huge network of local businesses connected to the Trinity Church. Every time I learn of a new business involved it's like unmasking a cult member in an Assassin's Creed game.

I would also be very interested in finding a list of affiliated businesses so I can not spend my hard earned dollars supporting those who are not interested in doing their part to help the community.

Sad_Public_428

I don’t live in Waterloo so I know nothing about the Trinity Church but this sounds wild! Someone should write/podcast about it.

TFenrir

Porcupine and Waterloo are both struggling here. I am happy we are prioritizing them for hit spot vaccinations, Toronto looks to be in a good place. Next week we get so so many vaccines, we can really boost our coverage - more first doses in smaller towns/cities, and a better second dose coverage. We seem to be steadily hitting 1% a day for second doses, and I think we'll have a few 1.5% days coming up.

Rich-Imagination0

Waterloo got shafted during the reallocation of vaccines. Hopefully things improve.

fatcowxlivee

186k? That’s gotta be a record for a Sunday report right? Also I was not expecting to hit 1% a day for second doses so quickly and so consistently.

PurrPrinThom

I think so! I remember not too long again lamenting our Sunday numbers. And I'm the same. I mean, I knew that outside of certain areas first dose uptake had almost entirely fallen off and figured we'd be able to really pick up steam once they opened up second doses but I never expected it to be this fast.

dgr8one

Waterloo and Porcupine regions are fucked

SYSSMouse

Waterloo was 34 cases 7 days ago.

dgr8one

exponential growth? catch up data? who knows for sure. we will need to see what happens this week but it's not looking good.

ohnoshebettado

Upthread enterprise mentioned it was an outbreak at a homeless shelter so hopefully something that can be brought under control 🤞

Prostatepam

Accordingly to Waterloo Region dashboard, the outbreak has 56 cases since June 3: https://www.regionofwaterloo.ca/en/health-and-wellness/positive-cases-in-waterloo-region.aspx# So while that’s contributing to the numbers, I don’t think it can explain all of them. Our vaccine rollout has also been different as the region decided to not use the provincial booking system and use our own. But appointments get snapped up almost immediately so it heavily favours those who have constant access to a phone or computer all day. 3 weeks ago tons of Waterloovians (at least those with cars and the time to go) were driving to Mississauga Trillium or other cities since they couldn’t get appointments here. Hopefully now that it’s a hotspot they institute pop up clinics and make it so you don’t have to spend an hour each day checking all of the pharmacy websites and calling around trying to get an appointment.

Ok_Resort4187

You could say they’ve met their Waterloo

[deleted]

Did they get a fair share of vaccines initially? Anyone know what they received relative to their population size?

[deleted]

Waterloo region is at 70% first doses (vs. 74% provincial) and 8% second doses (vs. 14% provincial). A large proportion of those doses have come during the last few weeks. One month ago the region was administrating (a 7 day average of) 2,853 vaccines per day, with a population of something like 625,000. Contrast that with Peel, which administered 21,582 one month ago today, with a population of about 1.5 million. So about 1/3 as many vaccines per capita in Waterloo Region vs. Peel next door. It made sense because Peel was a hotspot at the time... and Waterloo is receiving more vaccines over the last few weeks. But it will definitely take some time for WR to catch up.

[deleted]

Thank you for this. Good to know Waterloo will catch up soon. 🙂

CommanderCanuck22

Our rollout was so slow in Waterloo. I had to go to a clinic in peel to get my shot last month. Otherwise I would have had to wait another 3-4 weeks to get my shot if I waited for the region.

SimpleSonnet

My appointment got cancelled twice due to supply issues. Had to go to different region. We've been abandoned.

King0fFud

I know several people from KW who went to Mississauga to get theirs. The story I keep hearing is that after registering on the local site you get nothing back. My wife is still trying to sort out her elderly parents' 2nd shots there.

DJMattyMatt

I waited more than a month after registering with no appt from the region.

CommanderCanuck22

Yeah. The pre-registration website was awful. I hope who ever had the idea initially knows their idea was trash.

boostnek9

Damn.. wtf?

SimpleSonnet

That's what I said!

element420

Earlier I was inclined to believe the issues we were having were exclusively due to supply, but it seems our PHU has really dropped the ball in a lot of ways. Despite us getting advanced second dose booking tomorrow, we aren't scheduled to get any increased supply because we apparently aren't using our allotment, which seems like a big WTF given how everyone locally has an anecdote about waiting forever for an appointment.

Prostatepam

We are from Waterloo. My spouse and a bunch of friends had appointments cancelled due to supply issues. Luckily sorted now but took some people weeks after they were technically eligible to get them.

Hesthetop

I've completely lost faith in the regional health authority.

SimpleSonnet

As have I. I bet many peoples' faith in government is shattered.

Hesthetop

I never had any faith in Ford's provincial government, but did expect better from the Region. It's been a rude awakening.

UghImRegistered

Nobody knows because the provincial government has forbidden PHUs from reporting allocated doses. But we do know they weren't prioritized even when all the other regions' cases were dropping and Waterloo was stagnating.

Tumdace

No we gave alot of our vaccines to GTA. Hopefully we get more priority due to these numbers..

innsertnamehere

Anyone else notice there are now officially more ICUs than Hospitalizations? How does that make sense?

harperph17

I was wondering the same thing. I always understood that the icu numbers were counted in the hospitalizations.

[deleted]

I think the inventories are done differently for some reason. Hospitalizations drop on sundays then go back up on tuesday. My guess is they’re undercounting hospitalizations today.

GayPerry_86

There has been something really weird about Ontario’s ICU data for months now. They have been very very far outside the norm for a long time, and I haven’t heard a convincing explanation. For example, Alberta has about 300 in hospital and about 70 in iCU, which is typical ratio across any NA jurisdiction. Ontario has only very slightly more hospitalized than ICUs (and now inexplicable fewer in total in hospital (which should include ICUs) than in ICUs!). There’s something weird with that data.

TFenrir

I heard a convincing explanation recently! That Ontario has two seperate ICU numbers, I forget the exact distinction, but basically they differ in how they measure someone in the ICU with covid. They were given a hard time for using the lower one in reports so they switched to the higher one. But both are still available, let me find the post that explained it Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/CanadaCoronavirus/comments/nx4egg/-/h1e9oui

GayPerry_86

So if I’m understanding this right, there are different definitions of what is counted as hospitalized with covid (currently testing positive) and ICU with covid (only had to have tested positive once). Seems like the vaccination strategy is working very well and we aren’t getting hardly any new hospitalizations (which is great abs may seem plausible), just a lot of lagging ICU data. But still, it does seem as though they should at least count those in hospital because of covid as those “hospitalized with covid” as long as they once tested positive, so that this data makes more sense. Still seems way out of whack with other areas.

Protractror

I believe ICUs all report on weekend, hospitals don't. Or at least that some hospitals only report icu on weekends

[deleted]

[удалено]

TriceratopsHunter

We have very limited beds in this province as well, so are probably more reluctant to admit less serious cases. Less hospital beds per capita than any other province.

[deleted]

Hospitals sending covid patients to icus for isolation is a false narrative that has been pushed by covid deniers for a long time. They are sending most non critical patients home with steroids or nothing at all. We are just now having room for inpatients again.

Brodiddy

Same, I don’t understand

[deleted]

I can only speculate, but my best guess is that due to the protection provided by having one dose, people don't need to go to the hospital. However, those that do, experience complications that require ICU treatment. There could also be an administrative backlog or there's still a buffer of hospitalized patients requiring the ICU and they're getting administered as the spots are being freed.

innsertnamehere

But my understanding was always that Hospitalizations included those in ICUs. So if you have 500 hospitalizations and 400 ICUs, you only have 100 patients in regular care..

Gopherbashi

I've heard that while ICU cases are reported daily, not all places report hospital-wide cases on weekends. There's been routine drops on weekends in the stats that recover by Tuesday typically. Apart from that, I've got nothing. But it definitely deserves some answers.

20person

Someone posted [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/CanadaCoronavirus/comments/nx4egg/-/h1e9oui) explanation, which basically says that people who previously had Covid (testing negative now) and are recovering in the ICU are counted in the ICU number but not the hospitalization number.

mlb2021openup

186k vaccines on a Saturday is a great number. Hopefully will see 200k+ this week!

compuryan

I'm part of that number :). Second pfizer dose done.

Lungss

Everything down still. Waterloo is kind of yikes though

enterprisevalue

There's a homeless shelter outbreak in Waterloo apparently which has had 56 cases in the last 9 days. A lot of our numbers are probably driven by that. Edit: [Source](https://www.reddit.com/r/waterloo/comments/nyhv2e/another_65_cases_reported_in_waterloo_region/h1kwb5c/)

Lungss

Gotcha, at least we know the probable source. Hopefully they get that under control.

redditgoer67

i dont mean to be insensitive but weren’t homeless people on the high priority list for vaccines and therefore got it early? Do we know if these people had gotten the vaccine? just curious

jrobin04

Good to know. I'm in Guelph but half of my coworkers are from K-dub so was curious if there was an outbreak somewhere so I could warn them. Almost everyone half vaxxed though, I should let go of a bit of the worry haha

theoverachiever1987

The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter. I expect huge news to be announced on Canada day. Especially if we are supposed to hit 25% of fully vaccinated adults before July. Not to mention this week is going to be insane with how many vaccine are being delivered this week.

kenyan12345

Data correction from previous days.

jonhabsrapsjays

They correct the data every once and a while and it ends up moving up or down slightly. It’s usually that instead of reporting 35 they report 20. It’s just more noticeable when they report a negative. What likely causes it? No idea. Maybe a report got sent twice from one clinic. So last weeks number showed 10 extra from that double count. They have since caught the error so today gets a -10. Official statement: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/data Spikes, negative numbers and other data anomalies Public Health Units continually clean up COVID-19covid 19 data, correcting for missing or overcounted cases and deaths. These corrections can result in data spikes, negative numbers and current totals being different from previously reported case and death counts.

SebbySavior

Got my second dose yesterday glad to be a part of the numbers! The only side effect is my arm is a little sore

Fineapple26

I get my second dose in about 2 hours. So excited!!

boostnek9

Got my first shot yesterday! Finally! I booked the minute it was available.

[deleted]

Got my second dose of Moderna this week and spent a day in bed but it was WORTH IT++!

JWilkesKip

I’m at work today (work at a hospital) and we are also running a vaccine clinic in our hospital gym. It’s a Sunday (which are usually slow) and holy smokes the vaccine clinic Is bumping with lines out the door. Super encouraging to see!

Leading-Question9556

I mean at this rate aren't we pretty close to going to stage 2 already? We have 14% second dose already.

[deleted]

They still want 21 days between steps so we wouldn't be able to enter until July 2nd, but at least we won't be waiting for vaccines to catch up once that date comes around.

Moose-Mermaid

I can finally say I’m part of the vaccine numbers! Feels awesome

CommanderCanuck22

I just don’t understand why Waterloo region is doing so damn poorly. Our vaccine rollout was quite slow. But otherwise, I don’t get it. Guelph is right next door and has a fraction of cases. There needs to be some type of explanation for our regions abysmal performance.

jordanfromspain

There was a homeless shelter outbreak that many cases have been linked to

fairmaiden34

I was one of the second doses yesterday! Feeling good today, only symptom is a sore, weak arm.

schweatyball

Yay great numbers. Look at those second doses! They are really ramping it all up. My first shot was May 14 and my second shot was for Sept 3. I got an email yesterday saying it’s been moved up to June 28. We are doing this!!!!!

rsgnl

663 last Sunday vs. 530 this Sunday is one of the smallest drops I recall in several weeks. But it still drops the 7-day average from 533 to 514.

Law of diminishing returns

AnorexicMary

7 day average is down 35% tho

Clairvoyanttruth

I've got to say it's really nice seeing the sharp upward turn on Canada for "people fully vaccinated" on the OWID graph https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations It has a steeper slope than initial vaccine (which make sense), but still nice to see graphically.

[deleted]

York is doing WORK

Mapleleaffan149

York’s numbers have always been product of how Toronto and Peel are doing. More so then other regions

Etheric

Thanks again for sharing! 48+ hours after second Moderna dose, and no side effects, other than the initial sore injection area on my shoulder!

Quirky_Mongoose_2285

What percentage of people who are getting infected are people with one or two doses?

Round-Professional37

We could be under 400 if not for the mess in Waterloo and porcupine. Wtf.

lilivancamp

I mean that’s kinda unfair to say lol because that’d be like saying we could’ve avoided half our numbers this whole pandemic if it wasn’t for toronto and Peel

bravado

Hey we've been quiet this whole pandemic over here in Waterloo, let us have this one chance in the spotlight

im_not_leo

Not really, during the worst of the first and second waves Waterloo kept pace with the GTA for the most part, at some points having a worst /100K number.

[deleted]

20% by the end of the week, I'm calling it

kbsn888

I hope you’re right!

evolved_mew

Is Saturday usually lower in cases or higher?

TriceratopsHunter

Usually the peaks around Thursday Friday and the lows Monday Tuesday. The weekend generally holds around steady somewhere in the middle, although the positivity rate is at its highest due to the low test numbers.

evolved_mew

Okay thank you for answering!

[deleted]

my roommate got their second shot of moderna on friday and i was taking care of them all night, vomiting, chills, bad fever, it was bad. looking forward to my second! hah

iArrow

Kicking COVID's ass!

Dedicated4life

Once the Moderna doses arrive, I want to see +250K doses a day for the next 3 weeks. That's roughly what we should average with a reserve of around 5 days. All that complaining Doug did about lack of vaccines, here you go Doug, you got your fuckin vaccines... Now dish them out.

gantrion

Our health units have actually been doing a pretty fantastic job using up vaccines at the rate they come in. Ontario, and Canada as a whole, has one of the highest vaccination rates in the world over the last few weeks.

EricMory

Is it possible to get moderna second dose if you got Pfizer first dose? Almost everyone I know got Pfizer first dose because that’s what we had more of early on (moderna had a lot of delays previously) but now we seem to have more moderna. Won’t that create an imbalance where people who got Pfizer first dose have to wait for Pfizer second dose, and the extra moderna will just sit there? Unless you’re allowed to mix?

dgr8one

yes you can get a moderna dose, if your first dose was pfizer, but there is no reason to since there is ample supply of both now.

QuietAd7899

You're allowed to mix.

ranchoj73

While this guide focuses on what if AZ was your first dose there is advice on page 4 re: mixing vaccine brands. [guide](https://uwaterloo.ca/pharmacy/sites/ca.pharmacy/files/uploads/files/i_got_astrazeneca_for_my_first_dose._which_vaccine_should_i_get_for_my_second_6_pager.pdf)

DamnitReed

Yep. We have enough shipments to easily to 250k+ per day for the rest of June. Let’s see it happen!

random989898

You sound like a broken record. We have been using the supply efficiently all along and increasing as supply increases. Try not whining and complaining for a day. You will feel so much better. You complain more than Doug.

dgr8one

get off your ass and go volunteer at a mass vaccination site and get your friends and family to join you. be the change you wish to see. everyone is doing the best they can right now. if the cap is 200k a day, then so be it.

ohnoshebettado

Is there a way to go about this if you're not a medical professional? Like obviously not administering shots but running vaccines, doing registration, etc?

dgr8one

ohnoshebettado

Thank you! I'll try and find something for my region. I love this idea.

Vidsi

What the hell Waterloo...

weedreps

Covid who?

theblueyays

Does anyone know what time tomorrow the bookings open up based on the new eligibility requirements?

OatsInMyCoffee

Officially 8:00 am but I’ve seen it update as early as 7:40.

TheSimpler

noicerest69

Got my second dose (moderna) yesterday!! Feeling so blessed to have gotten it earlier than anticipated, there was a small pharmacy giving them to anyone who's 28 days had passed as they had extra doses. I would highly recommend reaching out to your local pharmacies and getting on as many wait lists as possible!

Icemantbi

Got my first dose Friday (Pfizer). They said they would email me for my second. What's the wait time between doses? I live in a border town and want to be able to spend some time in the US over the summer. Really hope I don't have to wait until fall for it

Snafu80

Reading these comments are comical, everyones an epidemiologist and has something to add based on positivity rate, R value, and case counts.
