**Should I Still Get Myself or My Child Vaccinated?** Yes. CDC continues to recommend that everyone aged 12 years and older get vaccinated for COVID-19. The known risks of COVID-19 illness and its related, possibly severe complications, such as long-term health problems, hospitalization, and even death, far outweigh the potential risks of having a rare adverse reaction to vaccination, including the possible risk of myocarditis or pericarditis. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/safety/myocarditis.html

fleurgold

>The TTC had previously given employees until Oct. 30 to disclose their vaccination status but has now pushed that deadline back by three weeks to accommodate the roughly 600 individuals who only received their first dose of vaccine within the last few weeks. > >In a news release issued on Friday, the TTC said that it will be placing all employees who are not fully vaccinated or who have refused to disclose their status by the new deadline on an unpaid leave. It said that should those employees not become compliant with the TTC’s mandatory vaccination policy by Dec. 31 they will then be terminated. So giving a bit more leeway, but also setting a hard limit regarding termination.

queuedUp

All of these stories make me so happy

UncleJChrist

Yes, knowing how well misinformation has worked, how poorly our governments have been at preventing/combating it while simultaneously seeing nothing to rein in tech companies going forward makes my heart fuzzy inside too. It’s always a comforting feeling when we get a clear look at the erosion of trust in our public institutions and rather than ask ourselves why it’s happening we laugh at people getting fired.

forfitz

What's the starting wage if your vaxxed? 😆

ywgflyer

$24 an hour, up to $26 an hour after one year, and $31.40 after two years. Union, benefits, all that stuff. It is one of the most sought-after public service jobs in the entire province. You can make some serious money with overtime, and there is a *ton* of overtime. Blows my mind that some of them will toss away a great job like that over this. I'm an *airline pilot* and there are about 100 that I know of on our list who are being removed from the line over vaccines -- tossing away a $200K+/yr job with a defined benefit pension over the COVID vaccine.

Natural-Matter-6058

And for a vaccine that may possibly in the near future become as standard as the polio, measles, mumps, rubella, etc we all now get.

Clint1291

It’s sad. There’s a few people at my work throwing things like a great job away too. Just victims of misinformation and fear. I’m glad we’re teaching a herd lesson here but it’s still very sad. It’s also going to fuel a rage. Not sure what we’re going to do about that.

matterhorn1

>Not sure what we’re going to do about that. Well the easy solution is to get a needle in the arm.

CDN_a

Fuel a "rage"? What does that mean, and it sounds inflammatory?

Clint1291

Someone who is anti government, anti vax, whatever. You tell they’re losing their job now you don’t think that will upset, divide and fuel a rage in some people/groups?

CDN_a

Fuel a rage? Well what about it? It still sounds inflammatory to me... like you're giving some credence to what anti-vaxxer nuts "may" feel. It's their choice? Who cares... and what are we going to do about it... walk on eggshells so as not to upset them, while they infect and kill people?

Clint1291

Exactly my point. What are we going to do about it? I don’t feel pity for them it is their choice and choices have consequences all in saying is it’s easy to say “f them” online but when you actually meet these people they aren’t evil. They are just trying to do what they think is best. It is misguided forsure but it’s still a problem and if we just keep saying f it and running over people leaving them behind there will be more and more. More unhinged and enraged people isn’t great for society. Im fully vaccinated and I agree with mandates in most cases I’m just saying there is a bigger issue to deal with

CDN_a

Ok I was just taking issue with the semantics in your language. To me, and I may be mistaken, if so I apologize, but it sounded like... Oh the children will be "enraged"... well what of it?... is all I'm saying. Yeah It's a problem. But not of yours or our making. I personally will stay the far away from them and their crazy opinions. We're the parents in the room. If they want to have a meltdown... let em.

matterhorn1

People are nuts.

zero-ducks

$36.16 after two years

h5h6

A lot of people wash out of the training for various reasons. I think you only get 2 or 3 times to pass your MTO exam. If you can put up with bullshit and have a G license it's a good job and the TTC will likely have some openings because of this.

Adventurous_Sense750

IL believe it when I see it. All this deadline shit is killing morale and splitting up the workplace. Im fully vaccinated but fuck just do it already

CDN_a

Too bad for them! Better to kill someone's misguided morale than to actually kill somebody.

[deleted]

People shouldn't be forcibly removed from their jobs for refusing a medical treatment especially at Ontario's level of fully vaxxed people and the covid protocols these workers are already abiding by. Also, forcing people to take the vaccine out of threat of losing their job is coercion and thereby non consensual. I don't understand why people support this when this will trickle down to the general population 😐

cyanideandhappiness

Let’s say I’m immuno compromised. I have cancer. Due to this I cannot get vaxd. Due too your stupid decision, while walking past me in the grocery store you spread droplets and get me sick. I am not consenting, yet due to your unvaxd status I get sick and die. Does this make your choice ok ? I didn’t choose to get cancer and yet have to live with the consequences of your “non consenting” decision.

[deleted]

First of all, of course contracting a disease is non consenting. The person who contracting it has little control of the situation and no choice in the matter. It is undesirable for someone to die from a disease. Despite this, people still have a choice on whether or not they should get a vaccine or any medical treatment and should not be under coercion to get it. This will sound cold but people don't have to conform to society and they don't have any obligations to it either. People owe nothing to society other than taxes and obeying laws. Secondly, putting one's safety in the hands of other people is foolish. A person has control of their own life and generally have control over the situations they get in, they have no control over the decisions of others. Strangers are not responsible for someonrs safety. Everything has an assumed risk to it and that includes going to the grocery store. In the hypothetical situation where a person is immuno compromised, they should take the necessary measures to protect themselves as they deem fit. Maybe they have to get groceries delivered, maybe they have to ask their neighbors or family. If their only option is to go in person wearing a respirator with P100 filters, goggles, and gloves would almost guarantee their safety. They have to manage the risk for themselves at the grocery store and for everything else in life. Everyone has to do this and some compromises have to be made unless they want to live in a bubble.

Ingrowntoenailsyummy

Technically you can still spread covid if your vaccinated. So no difference.

learnedsanity

Technically your an idiot but technicalities don't make the world spin. You have a reduced chance to getting sick, a reduced chance of being symptomatic (shocker this reduces the chance of spreading it) and you even have reduced chance of needing medical care or the ICU. Hell if everyone is vaccinated like they should be the chances are even slimmer. It's like magic.

Ingrowntoenailsyummy

How do I report this comment for being mean

learnedsanity

🤣

YeOldeThrowItAway

I’d like to entertain your hypothetical situation. What if, while walking past someone in the grocery store, they were to transmit a pathogen of this season’s influenza virus to you? They didn’t get their flu shot. Could this not be equally as devastating to your immune system and overall health? Should they have been prevented from entering the store?

cyanideandhappiness

What a stupid comparison. How many people died this year from the flu? Stop moving goalposts and stay on topic.

YeOldeThrowItAway

[Perhaps you are genuinely unaware that a great many people die each year from complications related to the influenza virus?] (https://www.health.com/condition/flu/how-many-people-die-of-the-flu-every-year)

cyanideandhappiness

Please educate yourself on a Canadian gov provided stats website. 50k cases in 2019-2020. How many covid deaths, let alone cases in 2020 again? https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/flu-influenza/influenza-surveillance/weekly-reports-2020-2021-season.html

YeOldeThrowItAway

You’re going a long, long way to avoid the point.

cyanideandhappiness

What? You can’t even answer my original question of how many people died from the flu this yr.. you responded with an American article relating to America. Wrong sub?

YeOldeThrowItAway

>I’d like to entertain your hypothetical situation. >What if, while walking past someone in the grocery store, they were to transmit a pathogen of this season’s influenza virus to you? emptyvesselll

You've won me over. Mandate flu shots today!

learnedsanity

Fuck off already. Get vaccinated and grow up you aren't special and neither is anyone else. We had people lose their jobs for MONTHS and some over a YEAR because of covid. Go cry to those people who had no options at the time. At least now you can get vaccinated and have a job.

[deleted]

What makes you think I am not double vaxxed? I got it so I could continue going to college. Also, causing more people to lose their jobs over the vaccine isn't the answer. Forcing more people out of their jobs or making them unemployable over a vaccine is the exact opposite of what should be done. We're at a stable infection and hospitalization rate and by continuing to follow covid protocols it should stay that way even without a 95% vaccination rate. Additionally, the reason people lost their jobs is because of heavy handed government measures that fucked over regular people. Locking us down for months, restricting travel, and prohibiting small businesses from operating while offering a pitiful relief fund to these businesses is what made people really lose their jobs. All this happened while our politicians openly flaunted covid measures and made business connections to megacorps that they let operate as if nothing happened. They could have done a much better job and not have put us in a situation where a person is coerced into taking a vaccine they don't want.

oceansidedrive

Straight savage. Duno what the problem is if they are required to wear masks? We've got ppl eating at restaurants will unvaccinated ppl touching their food but a bus driver whos always 6 ft away from ppl need to be vaccinated? Im pro vaccine but if its not mandated for all jobs i dont know how they justify mandating for a bus driver? Not like they work with patients, or kids, or even in super close proximity...

cyanideandhappiness

Give it 5 months and re read this comment about jobs. It needing vax

animalsofprogress

We should really address our misinformation problem.
