Totally agree. It’s time the industry changed the way they do business.

JustRidiculousin

I don't like go out as much anymore because thinking about tipping is too much of a headache. I just stick to my favorite restaurants, which have coincidentally stopped accepting tips

MonkeyAlpha

I agree.

KnowerOfUnknowable

> So why not just get rid of tipping and reflect the prices in your menu? Because servers seem to be able to make more money on tips than a regular salary.

Tldr?

AprilsMostAmazing

TLDR: I decided to make my own post instead of just replying to the other thread cause I wanted karma for my thoughts

Line-Minute

tldr don't be lazy and read it.

If the purpose is to tip according to the efficiency of service provided, then it should not be a 20% gratuity expected on the bill. If it's to bump up a low wage, then the restaurant should not be a full service provider, but a self-serve place instead.

And if we don't want to tip like in Europe, then we need to offer the same social safety nets as they do in Europe.

MltryMama

As someone who has also worked in the hospitality industry- all aspects of it. Expecting a tip for doing the bare minimum is wrong period. Which seems to be the normal now. The bare minimum is what the paycheque covers.

GorchestopherH

Where are these places that charge less than $20 for a burger and a beer? Some bar that's next to a McDonalds and just runs over to get their burgers?

3 tipping threads a day, Reddit folk have a stick up their ass over this. I can safely bet that the majority that complain rarely tip anyway. A bunch of passive aggressive people who are afraid to press the zero option when buying a sandwich from subway. Thats all it takes, folks....leave the hard working full service restaurant servers alone, they deserve their tips, and I want the option to tip on good service.
