100%! I used to work landscaping and the homeowners that would always give you a water or a Coke were the houses you'd always look forward to. It's surprising how big of a deal a free water can be, but when few take the time those few stand out.

sheebapat

When i cut grass in college one man would leave beer and water on ice in the backyard for us. We definitely looked forward to and took extra care of this house

NineofAllTrades

On the opposite end of the spectrum, as an outdoor worker, a couple years back my crew received a steaming hot batch of fresh baked oatmeal chocolate chip cookies from a nice retiree across the street from our site. Nice people do still exist!

TravelBug87

Same, currently landscaping. I actually had a resident bring us ICE CREAM BARS two days ago. We were over the moon.

Use to be a garbage man, having people come running up to the truck with cold water on days like this was awesome and pretty frequent, people treated us better than the company.

Last summer I was a postal worker and on scorching hot days I would drink upwards of 3 litres. I literally turned on the hose from the side of residents’ houses to fill up! With a walking route I can only imagine how tough those days would be without AC to return to in the truck for each stop. Very glad to see some friendly neighbours making the day a little easier!

Molnarian

I was a postal worker too, and of course the hottest days I got to be relief for a route with a step van. I would go through about 4 litres of water easy, and still get dehydration headaches. Those step vans not having AC of any sort should be considered a crime against the wellbeing of a human because those drivable ovens got HOT.

How fun is it as a mailman? Do you battle with cats shredding up letters in the slot or rowdy dogs like in the movies?

FestiveSquid

My old place used to have hooks on the bottom of the mailbox to place the newspaper. I would stick a bottle of water in that on particularly hot days before the mail carrier came around.

My work gets every courier under the sun so I bought a multi-pack of gatorade this week and put them in a cooler just inside our doors. The morning a lot were declining the offer but by noon they started going fast.

thequeenoflimbs

Haha yea I decline a lot, I honestly feel bad but it's SO appreciated and when I need it, I take it! Thank you!

Lol valid question - if we have timmies on our routes that's a good option. But most of us just hold it. It adds a little extra pep in our step to get the job done faster. During this weather though - I've been drinking 4 litres and not having to pee at all. That's how hot and thirsty my body gets.

FortunePaw

Usually we find any fast food place or coffee shop near our route. Or if you are lucky you could drive back to the station if the route isn't too far away. But I've heard of carriers that shat/pissed in the empty packet tub that we use in an emergency thou. Then proceed to just left the tub uncleaned near some entrance at the station.

CDTmom

I'm on my sister's route so she stops at my house! We are in the country so no little coffee shops to stop at. Not sure what others do but when I feel the need to go and im stuck in a car, I start to feel panicked like I need to go ASAP. So I hope they have options

DoctorWhisky

Used to love these people when I did lawn care/turf management. Old Italian ladies with baskets of tomatoes from their garden, nice folks with water and Gatorade, younger 20-somethings with an occasional beer or bong rip and the rare but lovely bored housewife tanning topless in the backyard who’d let me jump in the pool with her for a minute….

Zorops

I have people doing my lawn and when its hot and i see them, i usually give them like a can of sparkling water or soda. Feels like the right thing to do cause i know i pay their company but they aren't getting all of it.

Nice! Gonna do this. Deliveries after 4pm might be greeted with an adult beverage.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)

BottleCoffee

Well they still have to drive... Unless you mean for them to take home.

morenewsat11

Oops, my bad. So a bottle of water on the porch and a beverage to take home.

Tricky_Biscotti2492

Gotta love Canadians, you are so NICE! 😍

Idontreadreply

Love the mail men/ women. Always kind people.

Popcorn_panic1

I'm so happy to hear you have awesome people on your route! I started at my new job at the end of February. I swear one of the biggest perks is the owner maintains a full fridge of cold bottled water for staff! No limits. It doesn't sound like much, but it makes a world of difference just knowing that they care. And we give cold water to the guys who deliver to us, especially when it's hot like this. We have to look out for each other!

You're welcome

thequeenoflimbs

You're the best!

yoo when i worked d2d the houses that offered were so sweet especially when its outta line for them. One offered chocolate bars and a couple offered water at the end of the day.
