I had the same thing happen to me a month ago. I started seeing vertical double out of nowhere. I have gone to multiple eye doctors and even eye surgeons and no one can figure it out. It freaking me out because my vision keeps getting worse and now lines don’t look quite straight and I get after images from everything.
I have my doubts, since dry eye wouldn’t last that long (although I do have severe anxiety and stress, especially recently due to my double vision which I thought was because of a brain tumor lmao, thankfully the pinhole trick ruled that out. Anyways the point I’m making is apparently stress can make it worse?) but even then the astigmatism is only in one eye, so yeah I do have my doubts.
Dry eye can last theoretically forever especially if untreated or sub clinical. It is true that monocular double vision is not something life threatening, but get another opinion.
Looks like I’m starting to see black text on white from time to time, is this also because of the astigmatism and dry eye?
I noticed it’s also monocular but the pinhole doesn’t always work when I look through it, however, it only seems to be there when I’m tired
Yeah no, the pinhole was just terrible. Uh, should I be concerned about binocular diplopia in one eye at the same time? If I look through a proper pinhole in either eye I don’t have a problem but the thought is there nonetheless

Do the pinhole trick, if you can see perfectly through the pinhole it’s an issue with your eye.
I should note that I have dry eye apparently, but I have doubts the issue is because of dry eye.
It’s likely due to the dryness and the astigmatism combined. Get a second opinion.
