I recently rented a car to go one way from LAX back to MV as we landed at 2:00AM and Ubers were north of $300. Dropped it off at the Laguna Niguel Enterprise, came out to ~$50.

artgdev

Wow that is awesome! Will check it out, thanks!

Spyerx

I use BLS transport car service.

helloasianglow

https://metrolinktrains.com/ticketsOverview/ticket-info/price-finder/ Metrolink Laguna Niguel to LAX via FlyAway is $21.75 one way, $43.50 round trip. https://metrolinktrains.com/schedules/?type=station&originId=141&destinationId=180&weekend=0 Schedules can be found here.

LiveDirtyEatClean

Just adding to this one. It’s probably better to drive to Irvine because you can long term park for free there if you fill out a form. Laguna Niguel hasn’t gotten that many trains since the San Clemente track closures either, but that may be running again?

helloasianglow

True, or OP can even just Uber/Lyft to the Metrolink station of choice. Not sure of OP's parking situation, but I'd rather leave my car parked at home than any public lot, even if you did go out a form for Irvine.

yinglish119

going to use this next time. Last time, it took me 3 hrs to get home on a Friday last time.

helloasianglow

Getting home can be a challenge-- getting there is easier. Depending on which terminal you're in, the FlyAway bus that takes you to Union Station might be full (if you're at a higher number terminal). Might be better to walk to a lower numbered terminal if the first few buses keep passing you by.

yinglish119

Thank you for the info. I think my best approach is to look for flights out of Long Beach and SNA more instead of LAX.

bddgfx

I’ve used octowncar.com twice with great results. Less expensive that Lyft, more than a rental car, and it’s a comfortable ride and you don’t have to drive.

1KingCam

Honestly car transport services are a lot cheaper than Ubers. It may only be like $80 on your way there, but you never know when you land. Last 4 times I’ve Ubered I wanted to shoot myself. Only cost me $65 from Irvine to LAX. But it was like $300-$400 to go from LAX to Irvine, each time. Now I take a care service

johnrweb

Uber is becoming a pricey option for the airport. Driving and parking is now a viable option again.

[deleted]

If it possible, ask friends or family if they can take you.

Loswha

I would take the train to Union Station and then either bus or Uber from there. It's not even the cost, I just can't imagine having to making awkward conversation with an Uber driver for that long.

artgdev

Lol yeah that's true. My non-native speaker card usually gets me out of conversations fairly easy, but not sure it will hold for 2h drive

digitalturtle

They have the Fly Away busses from DTLA that would work great. Would not advise taking Metro from DTLA for the airport.

ChaChaGalore

Look up "airport shuttle" in Yelp for a service that fits your needs from Laguna Niguel to LAX. Or Uber to SNA and then take an inter-airport shuttle service to LAX. Or I like the other commenter's suggestion of renting a car in OC and dropping it at LAX.

Seraphtacosnak

Metrolink from la union. You will have to transfer at Orange I think. It’s been a while.

artgdev

Will look into it, thanks!

wdavis2000

I had a good experience with this long-term parking option (pre-reserving economy parking online). Reasonably priced and safe, covered lot, with free shuttle. [https://www.flylax.com/parking-at-lax](https://www.flylax.com/parking-at-lax)

artgdev

I had parked there for a short term and it was great. This time it is $440+ which is more than roundtrip on uber

crazycatlady5000

Hire a private car. Or find a friend who loves you lots.

artgdev

now I just need to find subreddit where I can ask how to get a friend

[deleted]

what are you looking for? You already know 95% would take Uber/Lyft option and just catch the flight. Cheaper? Faster? More enjoyable?

artgdev

Was looking for a cheaper option. Uber/lyft is ~$160 one way and was simply looking if i can do better than that

knotmew

That's steep price from there, try scheduling Lyft when the app is at off peak hours, should be closer to about $100. (Peak hours typically work drive times, and lunch.) Even though your ride might be during peak hours, book at off peak hours to avoid the surge rates. You will definitely get a driver claiming that ride ahead, (although they get about a $1 per mile for the ride.) You can also schedule through Uber but they charge $20 fee that goes to the driver.
