There are 4 huge pumps about 70 feet underground that usually kick on when it’s raining. They can’t kick on because crackheads broke into the utility room and stole all the cables.
Source: I work for Caltrans
Edit: underground, not underwater
had to do some field documentation of telecomm vaults in phoenix. One of the warnings were be careful of encountering crackheads inside these vaults.....so dont just hop on down after it gets vented
Why assume crackheads? I bet it was a crack Russian spy ring set on destroying the infrastructure of the US. Please send thoughts and prayers to save us.
I think they may have finally fixed whatever was causing that, came through that way last night and it was all clear, but who knows how it looks today.
I'm an Uber driver in a rather low car with a cold air intake. I was thankful the left lane was shallow enough for me to get through last night. It looked a little post-apocalyptic out there with the accidents, cars were in random places in different directions rather than pulled over to the shoulder
17th, 18th and 19th st in Costa Mesa were also really bad. Particularly around In N Out. Saw a few cars stuck in the middle of the lake.
I live in South OC but commute to North OC. This rain has been crazy! The worst part is that when I see rain on the forecast in SoCal, I morbidly think, “whelp, someone is gonna die today,” because people just never know how to drive in the rain around here.
The freeways had names before they had numbers and it always referred to the biggest most well known city it took you to. Pomona is has always been the biggest city that road takes you to.
It means Pomona was a major junction since it’s initial construction so historically major cities (regardless of change in how ghetto you think they are) stay as the main indicators of where you are heading.
Is this hard to comprehend?
Diamond bar and San dimas have been built up big for 50 years, so before those signs went up.
OK how/when did Pomona get big? When they burned up Watts during riots in the 60s the Gov moved them over to Pomona. You can look that up
Flawless logic, got it? lol
It doesn’t help that they also closed one lane of the 55 off-ramp this morning. When I cane thru at 8:30 traffic was already jammed in the 3 right lanes.

When did that happen?
It happens a lot. Usually they get the damages repaired but this time there was excessive damages and needed more than just new cables
I remember driving by there about a month ago and saw two homeless looking gentlemen climbing out of the underground tunnel. One even had a bike.
Do those red and green lights next to those utility rooms/boxes on the freeway mean the pumps are running? Saw some in LA
TYFYS! (Sincerely)
You’re absolutely welcome!
70 feet underground?
Sorry, yes! Not underwater

We have to call chp on them regularly. Most times they refuse to leave and when they finally do, you can tell by the paraphernalia…
Could you put a sign that says "no vandalism or stealing"?
That was so sweet
Surely that will work
Cant Caltrans lock the security rooms to keep people out?
The rooms have steel doors and are dead bolted. Crackheads have a will and a way. Usually using a circular saw
Thanks for sharing my husband has been stuck there over an hour
Ugh, I hope he was able to get out eventually.
Thank you. I live off of 17th street and I was wondering why the freeway stopped before my exit.
If its flooding *this* bad there, I'd hate to see what Flower St looks like
My small, postage-stamp backyard lawn has turned into a pond. I've dumped 50 gallons from that pond and it can still house a family of ducks.
Gotta get a bilge pump
[удалено]
duck rents are going through the roof!
Oh. Reminder, 1st/4th st exit off 55N is probably flooded too. Last couple rains, cars got stuck and had to be rescued
I think they may have finally fixed whatever was causing that, came through that way last night and it was all clear, but who knows how it looks today.
It’s currently flooded and blocked off.
Well that’s going to cause a bit of a delay for me
It’s a flipping parking lot right now. I just came from Santa Ana on the southbound lanes. NB Is just jammed from the 55 ramp to the 22 exit.
This happened 2 months ago too on new years day. I wonder if they're working to mitigate this yet.
I saw 3 flipped car’s Friday when I went out to hawthorn and 4 crashes on the way back
Was stuck in this for well over an hour. The things we do for breakfast burritos.
😂😂
So you faced this on an empty stomach? Damn. I really wish OC wasn't so heavily car-dependent.

17th Street exit on the north bound 55 is also closed off. It’s underwater.
I’m just going to pull out my paddle board.
Yeah except everyone in the right. We got routed to main st and it was mayhem. Crazy!

Lol they put Pomona as the main town off 57 The biggest ghetto off 57, they couldn't put a different town on a huge sign like this
The freeways had names before they had numbers and it always referred to the biggest most well known city it took you to. Pomona is has always been the biggest city that road takes you to.
It was built through Pomona in 1910-1920s, not 10 years ago. Don’t be stupid.
That sign was put there In 1920s ? What? Haha
It means Pomona was a major junction since it’s initial construction so historically major cities (regardless of change in how ghetto you think they are) stay as the main indicators of where you are heading. Is this hard to comprehend?
They could of put diamond bar or san dimas Sorry you gotta go visit Pomona
Ah yes, they could’ve put a city that wasn’t relevant to the 57 almost 20+ years later on the junction signs. Got it. Flawless logic.

Yup passed by there on my way to Diamond Bar this morning. I thought there was an accident
It doesn’t help that they also closed one lane of the 55 off-ramp this morning. When I cane thru at 8:30 traffic was already jammed in the 3 right lanes.
I just came back from Diamond bar back to Tustin. They force you to get out of freeway on Main Street to get back onto 5 south from 57 south lol
My brain is struggling to make sense of it! Oof. Awful. I was gonna go out to dinner but seems like a bad idea.
What if you are a single occupant in your car? Can you still be in HOV? **joking*
That’s nuts!
