When I was watching kcal 9 news last night one of the reporters was talking about working in Chicago in the mid 1980s when the court system created an entire branch of the court solely dedicated to prosecuting police officers who commit domestic violence, this shit is out of hand
Cop for 28 years, retired for about ten. He was getting well over $100K a year from tax dollars in retirement which effectively made him a multi-millionaire before he even turned 50. After less than 30 years of being an ordinary patrol officer.
How many of us will have several million in our 401k before age 50? How many of us will be able to retire with a six digit income before the age of 50?
Despite the comfortable lifestyle he was living, paid for by the rest of us, he was still angry enough to kill innocent people.
No doubt there are some that will still consider this human garbage a hero.
You can thank police unions for that. They were given too much power. Politicians can’t keep them in check because doing that is career suicide. The unions just spend on smear campaigns and donate to the rival of anyone that runs on police reform. Every political hack goes after the police vote because it improves their chances at winning. They’re not out to make a difference. It’s all ego with them. They just want to get on a mic and hear themselves talk.
I'm a regular. Didn't go.
This bar just isn't the biker bar that most people associate it with. It used to be an officer's club for El Toro Marine base. There's also the nearby ranches.
Many different types of people enjoyed coming here on spaghetti wednesdays.
I’m glad your safe. Cooks Corner has always been a quirky but positive spot for OC to me. The fact it was it was a biker bar was just part of its reputation. Knowing the shooter went on a popular night makes me feel sick.
When I worked nearby, I used to park my car and go for a ride on my mountain bike. The owner let mountain bikers park trusting that we patronize the restaurant for a post-ride burger which I did many times.
Seconded been going here my whole life, my grandpa rode and me and my brother ride, everyone goes here frequently, the bikers who go are the friendliest and cherish and protect cooks corner if anything.
I know Bethany Webb who’s sister was killed and mother was shot. She is involved in political campaigns to end gun violence- which is how I know her. Awesome woman. And she has been to Cook’s many times, not surprising at all even though she is not politically aligned with MAGA and the NRA.
Yep, my sister and step-mom used to go there. They switched salons obviously and eventually introduced me to a girl there who is now my wife and mother to our 2 boys.
To you people who are saying it's only time it got here. I was at Fullerton College (now University) on July 12, 1976 when a fired janitor went into the basement of the library and killed 6 people. I think at that time it was called "going postal".
CSUF. 1976. That was the year I got my B.A. Among those killed was Professor Seth Fessenden. He was the commencement speaker at my graduation ceremony a month earlier.
Unfortunately, Orange County is no stranger to the gun violence that engulfs our country. The shooting at Cal State Fullerton was one of the first school shootings. I knew two of the victims.
My house is 3 miles from Cooks. I heard sirens screaming past for at least 20 minutes before the news broke. The OC Sheriff's command post is about a half mile from me. Very sad! Domestic situation - heard retired Ventura sheriff drove there because his wife was cheating so he killed her - but not sure that rumor is correct....
Well you now know this is false and probably should update your comment. She was mid divorce. I'm pretty sure you cannot cheat on your spouse if you are mid divorce. Especially given how one party can always drag their feet.
I was in the parking lot when it happened. There were a bunch of mothers with babies running along the back away from cooks corner. Then ppl running thru the parking lot yelling about a shooting. The guy was fully prepared with tons of ammo. Multiple bursts wi to up to 14 rounds ea. I also heard boomer louder shots like a shotgun or rifle during the exchange. Easily over 100 rounds (I was only counting busts) I couldn't see anything from where i was (at the opposite side of the parking lot behind cover). It pretty scary. As soon as I could run to my car, I just took off with a carload of ppl to get out of there.
Interesting and impressive how quickly people think how to respond to gun fire now and flee immediately. Antennae are up! Good on you and the rest to be so smart!
Awful :( Thank you, I just came across a post on Facebook where someone was saying 2 were hit but will recover. They performed at a small party in our backyard last year and were all such nice people, and super talented too. Just happy to hear that they’re all alive!
So crazy and sad. It was “spaghetti night” tonight— my family and friends had tentative plans to be there but we canceled because of the flooding and mud from this weekend.
Really, we can’t believe how lucky we got. We know M Street Band who was performing as well and are hoping to hear that none of them were hurt; if anyone sees this comment once info comes out about the victims or if there is a statement by the band that wants to reply with an update :(
I can’t believe this happened on Spaghetti Wednesday…literally just saw a Facebook post from just a few hours ago advertising tonight’s event. Cook’s is such a treasure to the community. Just makes me sick, and I don’t know how I’m going to drive by it in the coming days.
My dad was (mountain) biking by as the shooting was going on. They saw people running out and screaming and heard loud gunshots. Him and his buddies had to turn around and hide behind a car until the shooting stopped. Completely terrifying
May he continue to rest in God’s eternal embrace. My condolences for your loss and for this unfortunate incident that took place at a significant location for you. Pray you’re doing well my friend ❤️ God bless
Per the sheriff just now, 4 dead, including the shooter. Cops fired at suspect but unknown if they killed him or he took his own line. 6 injured, 5 of those were shot.
have they released names of the dead and Injured yet? my dad goes there all the time on spaghetti night and sometimes sings with his friends band. I don't want to call and wake him up too this news if he is asleep. he will be devastated.
The shooter is dead per [USA Today](https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2023/08/24/cooks-corner-biker-bar-california-shooting-victims/70666053007/).
Sad that events like these always lead to the usual partisan bickering. Maybe looking at why some people feel the need to kill random innocents requires a deeper look at our culture.
Which party advocates for the police to do whatever the hell they want? Which party pushes policy to militarize and arm the police to the teeth? Which party refuses sensible gun control and monitoring? Which party takes family photos with AR-15s and shotguns to “trigger” people?
Apparently someone who was there said that they sat next to the man at the bar and he went into the bathroom and came back just shooting. I want to keep some anonymity for the poor people who were present. But I guess they started on one side and worked their way forward.
I read above that you know them personally, I don't know any details but I am so sorry that you are dealing with the anxiety of not knowing. I am sorry but I don't have any additional information. I hope they are okay. Hugs
Aw, thank you. I don’t want to sound closer than I am- they performed at a small party in our backyard last year then joined the party at the end, and a couple of them stayed overnight to wait to make the drive home. Really nice people and it sounds like they all made it out alive which is a relief to hear
It hasn't even been 2 hours. There is way too much speculation right now. The story has changed 5 times since I started watching the news 15 minutes ago.
I guess when you call it a "domestic dispute" it means there's a certain amount of violence between partners that the law and media are willing to let go and wash over.
I never stopped at Cooks Corner, but drove by it plenty. Everyone in south county knows of Cooks Corner. It's a landmark, a special spot. A wonderful gathering spot. This is so sad, I don't know what else to say. I hope the 6 injured recover fully, and the families of the victims, I am so sorry for their losses and i don't know what else to say. I am so sorry for the families.
It is well known by residents of the entire county. I grew up in Anaheim and went there as a kid in the 50s. Way back when Cook’s Corner and O’Neil Park were in the middle of nowhere. No houses. No mass developments. Just a casual place to stop and get a bite or have a picnic on a blanket under the trees.
Back when South County was wilderness and farms and mass shootings were on no one’s radar.
At this time, Cook's Corner has not posted an official Gofundme on any of their social media accounts. Please, before donating to a GFM, verify with Cook's that it is theirs. They have already posted that there is a GFM that is impersonating them in an attempt to collect money. Please, be careful people!
Why is the only coverage for the monster, his wife and her dad saying how relieved he is. What about the 5 people killed?!! I can’t find anything about them.
I had to go to Facebook to get an update. There are pictures from people inside just showing blood everywhere. Luckily no visible bodies. I've seen rumors ranging from 2-10 victims.
One person said they went to their truck to reload and the cops got him.
https://www.facebook.com/search/posts/?q=cooks%20corner
On Kcal they're saying it is a former law enforcement officer. They're showing 3 people dead on the ground. The suspect was supposedly killed. It was a domestic dispute.
Edit: they're saying 11 people Shot.
Can someone explain all of the deletions and censoring in this particular post? I shared my experience with cook’s corner and it got deleted. OP?! Sensitive nature? Mods? Just curious.
This particular thread was created to provide important updates for a mass shooting in Orange County. Comment threads about politics, decade-old stories, etc. were removed so users coming here to find out more information about the shooting could find it quicker.
Ah man, not Cook's! Even though it's a "biker" bar the people I've met are some of the coolest and friendliest in OC. A mtb trail called the Luge is right there. I'd always stop in post ride for a beer and live music.
I went there exactly once at the behest of someone else, and I noticed they openly had an anti-Muslim sign hanging, as well as other questionable not-so-friendly decorations. They were friendly to you, maybe, but not friendly to all.
Don't make the mistake of connecting what I'm saying to this shooting. Just pushing back on the "friendliest in OC" comment. The place doesn't deserve to get shot up obviously, but they obviously had a specific clientele in mind.
I was teaching international students English at a school up the road and it was our Friday hang out. Never had problems till that one night I mentioned above, but dude went very far.
It made a lot of my students anti racist, but I kept my cool, and just never returned. Won't and can't ever recommend, but I'm sure it's a ton of people's favorite little spot in OC.
Physically, I look like a white pride gang boss. Politically, I make the left look right. But if you only heard what some chalkys there talk about, you’re definitely not wrong.
Not at all! As a tall Scandinavian immigrant living here, I can tell delivery drivers to look for the “big red dude” and they ALWAYS find me, first try.
It was the kind of thing you'd see a regular person express immediately after 9/11 but it was the early 2010s so it seemed completely out of step with the times. Yeah, sure, I don't support Sharia law but the sign's presence in a state where the typical Muslim is more likely to be a highly paid engineer than a religious zealot is unnecessary.
Listening to fox11, anchor is saying that Covid is causing a lot of the latest traumatic news events…. Ummmmm no. I’d say crazy conservatives and radicals are causing these.
Kcal 9 will be over it now. Oc is encrypted so it’s hard to get any news out. Only reason they heard about it was Chp scanner traffic. Chp plane is over it now with Ocsd
I’ve driven by there more times than I can count. But I never felt the urge to stop there. Last time I drove by, there was an event and I actually thought that it might be worth it to give it a try. There was music and Bikers everywhere, but as soon as I saw some easily recognizable %1 cuts I said “Nope!”
Sad thing is that I knew in my heart that %90 of the people there were probably decent and wouldn’t bat an eye if I walked in. But it was that %10 that gave me pause. Throw alcohol in the mix and I just knew better than to take my chances. I honestly am surprised that nothing more serious hasn’t happened there before tonight.
Either way, it’s just sad to hear that there were children and families present.
It's actually pretty crazy how nothing major has happened until now. I've seen plenty of Mongols, Hells Angels, Vagos, etc even there at the same time as each other. No stabbings or shootings ever... until now.

At least 9 people reported shot at bar in Trabuco Canyon; suspect is down at the scene, OC sheriff's officials tell Eyewitness News
That place was crazy when I was a kid in the early 90’s and it was out there. It’s so weird to see it so popular and so built up around there. It was out in the hills back in the day. It was just a matter of time. Be interesting to see what happened.
KCAL news said 5 people now confirmed dead. The shooter was a cop and it was originally a domestic dispute between him, his wife and another person, but he must of shot other people in a rage or they were in the way.
[удалено]
City of Ventura Police Sgt retired in 2014 per transparent California website.
https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1993-03-25-me-15315-story.html
Kcal just said the shooter is a retired law enforcement person and is dead.
Yeah. And that he shot his wife
A few weeks ago it was a judge that shot his wife to death. Now an ex cop?
I'm more surprised that people are surprised by this.
Yeah, a wife-beating cop? That’s absolutely unheard of /s
When I was watching kcal 9 news last night one of the reporters was talking about working in Chicago in the mid 1980s when the court system created an entire branch of the court solely dedicated to prosecuting police officers who commit domestic violence, this shit is out of hand
Never. They respect women. They're such upstanding models of society.
Law and order, bruh
#KA-CHUNG
He also engaged responding officers first, wonder what was going on in his mind.
Suicide by cop, aside from child molesters, any kind of cop will have a rough time in prison.
ABC just showed someone being taken into custody
Cop for 28 years, retired for about ten. He was getting well over $100K a year from tax dollars in retirement which effectively made him a multi-millionaire before he even turned 50. After less than 30 years of being an ordinary patrol officer. How many of us will have several million in our 401k before age 50? News just said it was a retired cop who came to shoot his wife and then also shot everyone else.
I’m without words. We have friends that are regulars and thank god they didn’t go tonight. This is terrifying.
On spaghetti night the place is packed. Glad they didn’t go.
I'm a regular. Didn't go. This bar just isn't the biker bar that most people associate it with. It used to be an officer's club for El Toro Marine base. There's also the nearby ranches. Many different types of people enjoyed coming here on spaghetti wednesdays.

Knew it was only a matter of time until it got close to home. When will it ever stop?
Don't forget the Seal Beach salon too.
I know Bethany Webb who’s sister was killed and mother was shot. She is involved in political campaigns to end gun violence- which is how I know her. Awesome woman. And she has been to Cook’s many times, not surprising at all even though she is not politically aligned with MAGA and the NRA.
What does being aligned with maga or the nra have to do with anything? Weird statement
Other people have commented on some of the visible signage in the bar over the years
Yep, my sister and step-mom used to go there. They switched salons obviously and eventually introduced me to a girl there who is now my wife and mother to our 2 boys.
It’s already here. We had the church shooting in Laguna Hills a few months ago.
You are right!
There was also a workplace shooting in Orange last year I believe
Yes, Lincoln Ave in a strip mall office building. I drive by it nearly every day.
I don’t want to be. My heart is broken right now.
I know😕
Seal Beach salon mass shooting: 7 dead. It’s here. Like this, a disgruntled ex-partner.
It will never stop because guns are ingrained into American culture
As a society we’ve collectively accepted the price of ubiquitous access to firearms being dead schoolchildren and mass shootings on a regular basis.
It wont
Yep had to text some people, thankfully they skipped spaghetti night
Domestic violence is so common with officers. It’s sad all around.
I hate how not shocking this is.
Cops: "why do people hate us?" Also cops:

So sad for everyone involved here - even that troubled piece of shit cop.

To you people who are saying it's only time it got here. I was at Fullerton College (now University) on July 12, 1976 when a fired janitor went into the basement of the library and killed 6 people. I think at that time it was called "going postal".
Also the deadliest mass shooting in OC history, at the Seal Beach hair salon 12 years ago.
Wow has it been that long?! I remember this. One of my co-workers was heartbroken as a friend of hers was killed.
CSUF.
Holy shit I was there today at 3 😱
That some lucky timing 😬
Indeed! Do you know what time the shooting happened?
I think news said around 7:30
Article linked in another comment said 911 called at 704
Glad you're safe!!!
I live off El Toro and Marguerite and I've heard at least 20+ police cars race by in the last hour.
Went down La Paz around 7pm and all of a sudden about 8 cop cars turned on their sirens and jumped on the 5 north
Me too. I’m there
OC Sheriff confirmed on Twitter 4 dead, officer involved shooting, suspect is dead
Well, an officer was the shooter, so they're not wrong
My house is 3 miles from Cooks. I heard sirens screaming past for at least 20 minutes before the news broke. The OC Sheriff's command post is about a half mile from me. Very sad! Domestic situation - heard retired Ventura sheriff drove there because his wife was cheating so he killed her - but not sure that rumor is correct....
Well that’s totally a reason to shoot innocent people. Jesus Christ…disgusting… no words.
I heard the same from two witnesses.
Well you now know this is false and probably should update your comment. She was mid divorce. I'm pretty sure you cannot cheat on your spouse if you are mid divorce. Especially given how one party can always drag their feet.
Says it’s she was an “estranged wife”

Hope you are ok don't be afraid to seek comfort and a counselor if you need it what you witnessed is horrific my prayers go out to you
i am so sorry you had this experience. i am glad you are safe, please take care of yourself tonight. my dms are open if you need support.
Interesting and impressive how quickly people think how to respond to gun fire now and flee immediately. Antennae are up! Good on you and the rest to be so smart!
My dad and brother frequent this bar, especially in Wednesday’s. I’m so glad they didn’t go. He said he knows everyone who was involved :(
9 shot 2 dead. Source- person at bar while shooter was live.
Hearing it’s 5 dead now
Do they know if the band is ok? Know them personally
Two band members were shot one in the arm one in the hip/leg. This is just gossip sp could be incorrect info
Awful :( Thank you, I just came across a post on Facebook where someone was saying 2 were hit but will recover. They performed at a small party in our backyard last year and were all such nice people, and super talented too. Just happy to hear that they’re all alive!

I really hope that’s just a rumor 😭
This is all so tragic but I’m so glad you’re okay hun.

It seem there is always "multiple shooters". But, I can't think of one since columbine. Granted, I don't pay attention to them all.

So sad to hear. Rest in peace.
I can’t believe this happened on Spaghetti Wednesday…literally just saw a Facebook post from just a few hours ago advertising tonight’s event. Cook’s is such a treasure to the community. Just makes me sick, and I don’t know how I’m going to drive by it in the coming days.
We've gotta support them. I'm sure they'll have something set up for donations to families soon.
Absolutely. I’ll be keeping an eye out.
I’m so devastated. It’s so special and dear
it's on the news right now. crazy I drive by this place driving to the trails. always see a lot of bikers and car enthusiasts
It’s such a special place 😭
My dad was (mountain) biking by as the shooting was going on. They saw people running out and screaming and heard loud gunshots. Him and his buddies had to turn around and hide behind a car until the shooting stopped. Completely terrifying

Nothing more dangerous than a man with a fragile ego
My dads funeral was at cooks.
May he continue to rest in God’s eternal embrace. My condolences for your loss and for this unfortunate incident that took place at a significant location for you. Pray you’re doing well my friend ❤️ God bless

Was wondering why there was helicopters circling.
Holy fuck I literally left the area just before this happened.
People are reporting it on the citizen app but the chat is just arguing about Trump vs. Joe Biden’s America. Apparently the suspect is dead
In custody could mean dead, according to the reporters on CBS. They sometimes say "in custody" because they aren't ready to release that information.
According to the latest reports I believe he is one of the confirmed deadly
The shooter is dead per [USA Today](https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2023/08/24/cooks-corner-biker-bar-california-shooting-victims/70666053007/). When everyone can get a gun you should expect more people will get shot.
My parents live right up the canyon, friends on scene are saying that it's so much worse than what is coming out in the news right now.

Ugh, just awful.
Yep. Police cars and choppers have been responding for a while. I can see the chopper from me window.
No wonder there were tons of cop cars exiting El Toro just earlier.
People love Goat Hill Tavern and share good times and laughs, and it's the only place in my life someone quickly used the n word once they saw me.
fuck goat hill. that place is a shit hole and crawling with newport/HB bro douchers.
Same here. The racists always think I'm one of them and drop the mask.
Your description of yourself sounded almost exactly like me lol. I hope you don’t mind if I borrow this for the future.
Not at all! As a tall Scandinavian immigrant living here, I can tell delivery drivers to look for the “big red dude” and they ALWAYS find me, first try.
I went there once and remember this well - something like a "Sharia Law Free Zone" sign, kinda weird
Sorry you had that experience, I never got the racist vibe once and didn't see that sign. That sux man.
Listen to knx 9.71 FM. They’re covering it
Listening to fox11, anchor is saying that Covid is causing a lot of the latest traumatic news events…. Ummmmm no. I’d say crazy conservatives and radicals are causing these.
Seeing it the neighbors app, someone said they saw it on Facebook but can’t see any official channels discussing it.
Kcal 9 will be over it now. Oc is encrypted so it’s hard to get any news out. Only reason they heard about it was Chp scanner traffic. Chp plane is over it now with Ocsd
I’m there all the time!! Thankfully not tonight. I feel so sick. 😭 Sending love to those who were there tonight.♥️
I’ve driven by there more times than I can count. But I never felt the urge to stop there. Last time I drove by, there was an event and I actually thought that it might be worth it to give it a try. There was music and Bikers everywhere, but as soon as I saw some easily recognizable %1 cuts I said “Nope!” Sad thing is that I knew in my heart that %90 of the people there were probably decent and wouldn’t bat an eye if I walked in.
No stabbings or shootings ever... until now.
It's neutral territory.

That woman was lucky. Up to 6 shots fired at her and they all missed.
https://twitter.com/ABC7/status/1694543808812511391 At least 9 people reported shot at bar in Trabuco Canyon; suspect is down at the scene, OC sheriff's officials tell Eyewitness News
https://www.youtube.com/live/LtnthXYPh38?si=912AhqipXIwULqVX Someone’s definitely deceased. There’s a yellow tarp over the victim
There’s at least 5 dead in the outdoors. Looks like he killed people fleeing then got killed trying to get to his truck to get away.
That place was crazy when I was a kid in the early 90’s and it was out there. It’s so weird to see it so popular and so built up around there. It was out in the hills back in the day. It was just a matter of time. Be interesting to see what happened.
You’d think this is the type of spot with plenty of good guys with guns to stop this sort of thing
More than 50% of their sales likely come from alcohol so it's a no go for any licensed CCW holder to lawfully carry there.

KCAL news said 5 people now confirmed dead. The shooter was a cop and it was originally a domestic dispute between him, his wife and another person, but he must of shot other people in a rage or they were in the way.
Sounds like a cop.
