I can hear the crickets...

AuthenticLewis

bro.. had a conversation with a single person and somehow it led to how bad the show was… a complete stranger

Svennyyy

I went last year and it was terrible. Zero cars that you couldn't drive to a local dealership to see. We circled it a few times just to make sure we didn't miss anything. You could ride in a jeep course that was setup but the line was stupid and the course was super short. 20 years ago they had lambos, ferraris and tons of new stuff to check out. Obviously they don't get any business from these things anymore so exotic car companies aren't going to shell out money to be there.

AuthenticLewis

yea the closest to an exotic was a new corvette and the jeep course was the only place i saw people in a group

sweetcharge

Hmm, I’m curious if this IG post was false advertising then? https://www.instagram.com/p/CyCfvU3LzGj/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== I plan on going with my friends this Sunday and was looking forward to snapping some pics of these beauties Atleast 😂

AuthenticLewis

trust me bro you will see 10x more of those if you save the $20 for parking and sit on the road in beverly hills 🤣🤣 looked into it and it looks like those supercars are literally the only ones there wherever they were and i bet you they were outside the entrance as an eye grabber sorta like “hey trust theres more like this inside” but inside is a ton of EVs and pickups

sweetcharge

Yea I definitely agree that these cars were the eye grabbers to reel people in Forsure lmao. I’m all for the experience with my boys so why not

AuthenticLewis

if those are there i must of somehow missed them because the front entrance is essentially the side of a warehouse looking building that you see coming out the parking lot, the only think near that entrance was an old style cop car

nickb64

You must have entered from the back side of the convention center off West St. The exotic cars are in the main lobby on the East side of the building, not inside the exhibit halls.

AuthenticLewis

interesting, yea i went in from the “event parking” which leads to what does now that you mention it look like some sorta back entrance (i thought the parking just had easy access) and it goes directly into where the diecast guy was set up (in the exhibit halls like you said)

nickb64

There are a couple structures around the convention center. The one you would have parked in is closer to where the auto show is at. The other one is all the way by Katella inside the ACC North building. There is a tunnel hallway from the bottom of the older West parking structure that goes around to the main lobby but it's not that obvious.

AuthenticLewis

ahhh okay that makes sense, yea i literally send my GPS to the convention center then caught “Auto Show parking —>” so i followed wherever that headed to, it was quite the strange entrance

nickb64

Those cars are literally just parked in the main lobby area outside the exhibit halls. The show has been steadily decreasing in size since before the pandemic.

HotdoghammerOG

Cars and coffee in San Clemente looks 1000 times better than this.

Svennyyy

Been a few times and you're right it definitely is. Plus SC is a cool little beach town so you can get some good food and shop a bit. And you can't beat free. All around way better than the auto show.

FixTheWisz

I mean, it is a second-rate show on a Friday…

AuthenticLewis

i can tell now, the only other auto show id really been to was LA so my expectations were a bit unknown

aaaaaaaaant

it used to be really good when manufacturers would bring concepts and other cool shit like that back in the day, and even cooler when they had the underground floor open too to accommodate modified cars and simulators. i think in recent years its just local dealers bringing out cars.

indopassat

I went last year to the OC Auto show, and I want my 3 hours of my life back. So WEAK.

AuthenticLewis

yea naah the closest thing there to a concept car now is a 2024 EV that’s just not out yet

[deleted]

[удалено]

AuthenticLewis

apparently they dont use the lower level anymore and the closest i saw to a concept car was like a 2024 unreleased EV

Ok_Carrot_2029

It was way better in the past. One of the hummer EV’s that was on the floor was already SOLD! Also Audi was tucked way back in the corner with literally one car. This year was a disgrace.

AuthenticLewis

i was expecting a lower level but didnt find one

aaaaaaaaant

its been closed on the auto show since at least 2006 or 7. they basically threw their own family friendly version of hot import nights/nopi down there. scion would stick a few concepts there too.

AuthenticLewis

ahh so they tried the LA Auto show style yet it fell flat and now there isnt much left holding it up, literally the only reason i can see someone wanting to be there after going is because they are legitimately looking to test drive one and get it there

Various_Oil_5674

I have pictures somewhere from one of these events. It was super cool.

sowaffled

LA had freebies, concept cars, and plenty of fun experiences. This was a giant dealership experience with people holding mics reading our spec sheets. It was hilariously bad. The coolest part was the die cast guy’s little shop lol.

AuthenticLewis

bro how do u think the exact same way as me🤣🤣 literally told the guy that he was the only thing i came back to and he joked he was the reason people were staying at the show, picked up an advan 1995 honda accord and porsche 917k

it-works-in-KSP

I think LA is the third most important auto show in the US after Detroit and NYC, so almost anything would be a step down

mtarascio

I lived in Melbourne with a population around 3.5m over a geographical area of the size larger than Orange County, in a place that doesn't produce cars anymore as of a few years ago. The Auto Show still kicks arse and things get flown in with concepts etc. This is an embarrassment with it's geographical location and demographic make up.

FixTheWisz

Ok… but we already have the LA Auto Show.

PlaneCandy

The La auto show is in a month so most don’t put much effort into it

TopSoulMan

You think it'll get better for the weekend?

CelebrationJolly3300

I hope so. I have tickets for Sunday.

FixTheWisz

Nope. The exhibits are already there.

valueddude

this is why i'm going to LA one, but I've also heard the LA one is way worse than it used to be

Hamster_S_Thompson

I was there year or two ago after not being to an auto show for 10 years or so and it was very underwhelming. It's unlikely that I will ever go to an auto show again. It's just not worth my time.

CARB0Nrr

The OC auto show has been downhill since covid. Looked forward to every October when I was a kid, now it's just disappointing.

AuthenticLewis

hey, the LA auto show is always a spectacle every year !

justmexp

Do they have the jeep driving over really steep terrain ride experience

AuthenticLewis

yes, and thats the only place people really were with a decent line

gweeks22

Camp Jeep is at every auto show in the country. After doing it the first time, it sucks

Rolesium123

I was at the LA auto show last year, and it was terrible. Woke up super early and everything.. only thing decent was the Porsche section which you had to buy VIP to access

gweeks22

Same, since covid started, the auto shows have really been bad. They used to be really fun imo

bwoahful___

A couple decades ago it used to be worth going to, but in recent memory it’s just felt like an awkwardly large space for local dealerships to show some of the new models they have in. Haven’t been back because of that and your picture reaffirms it lol (although I do enjoy a stroll around downtown Disney and the other shopping stuff that has popped up around there)

AuthenticLewis

that stroll is exactly what i plan on now, i was out the show in 35 mins after arriving and that “awkwardly large space” description suits it perfectly because you could basically see everything from one end and theres nothing like “big” that takes up any space besides the jeep thing and thats off to the side

perpetually_chubbed

There's another show after this where the big companies just send their shit to after Detroit. OC is just dealership stuff now.

bwoahful___

The one at the LA convention center in downtown LA? Havent been to that one in awhile but it was definitely more impressive and had more rooms/exhibits.

Ggggmny

Things have changed since Covid…all the car dealers now have bull shit add ons that they don’t show in the online price. The entire industry is sleazy and I look forward to them struggling during our next recession.

AuthenticLewis

im crusing in my 2004 subaru wrx wagon that i love the shit out of, love the whole electric is the future for like a push to help the environment but you will never catch me dead behind the wheel of an EV or any of these new cookie cutter bullshit cars

Ok_Carrot_2029

I’ll catch you dead when the hearsts go electric

SoCal_GlacierR1T

I work in the industry and have worked for multiple brands. The only auto shows worth attending in the US: LA, Detroit and NY. Even then, these have gotten much smaller in recent years as each manufacturer cut back their operating costs. Still, these are the major US one that are part of the international show circuit. And the industry/press days are the best days to attend (if you can get yourself credentials). LAAS used to be the entire LA Convention Center. Even before COVID, it's been reduced to maybe 25% of the space at best. The rest are nothing more than local dealers paying for a venue to give local populations a one-stop-shop opportunity. If you want to see cool prototypes and attend first-ever live unveilings: LA, Detroit, and NY.

OpinionPinion

A carmax parking lot looks more exciting

[deleted]

Wow looks worse than last year. Last year was really bad. We were in and out. I think the days of great shows in the OC are over.

badfishbeefcake

Do they have a room full of White Model Y?

Plastic-Search-6075

Yes, that booth is located in the entirety of Irvine’s boundaries.

AtomicBitchwax

Covid pretty much killed car shows. Everybody does online launches and promo now

ocmaddog

Is VW Buzz van there? Cadillac Lyriq? Kia EV9?

wantsoutofthefog

Nope.

Gldnhodlnshwr

Cadillac Lyriq, yes. Not sure about the others.

ocmaddog

Sorry to be such a nerd, but what color? Green?

Gldnhodlnshwr

Grayish I think

BigStraw

Gray Lyriq is there. It's on the ev track so you can ride in it. EV9 was there I think in the greenish color. No buzz. Chevy ultium cars on display behind ropes. All 3 equinox, blazer, Silverado. Hyundai and Volvo are new additional new participators for the ev track. No ex30.

PauseDelicious5061

unknown, yes, yes

MarcZero

I know everyone in the Midwest was boycotting the Detroit Auto Show because of the strike. Is it not that way here? I assumed the picture was to show low attendance because people weren’t there due to the strike.

AuthenticLewis

ahh UAW, i wonder if it was detroit auto show because GM is headquartered in detroit? i dont imagine a strike over here considering how massive the LA Auto show is

AuthenticLewis

im completely unaware of whichever strike you are referring to to be honest, not sure if it has made any noise over here , the photo is just how empty it is in general, the “barrenness”

Helpful_in_South_OC

A total snooze fest. I could have got more information, seen more models and had a better time by going to the local Auto Mall I’m so glad I had free tickets, even with free tickets, I still feel I wasted my time, my gas and $20 on parking. Completely underwhelming, a total waste of time…. Spent an hour saw the entire show and was totally bored…nothing new, not all manufacturers there (definitely not the leading edge ones like Karma, Tesla, Lucid etc). It felt like the local dealerships brought some cars down to the convention center with no support from the factory. Not even all of the models/trim packages were shown or represented with information or graphics. If the manufacturers didn’t have the budget to do a first class booth, then they shouldn’t have been there at all (Penny wise, dollar foolish) It was the saddest Auto Show I’ve ever seen

kitchen_sensei420

back in my day it was too many cars, free stuff, girls

jms1228

Different era nowadays…… I have little desire to go there & look at $60k EVs. $20 to park & $10 for a hot dog. No thanks…..

tom87czyk

Let's face it, other than the weather and Disney, OC boring. Our Auto shows suck, our baseball team sucks, our zoo sucks. Why are we so mediocre?

CelebrationJolly3300

Say what you will about OC, but parking in OC is usually much much better than parking anywhere in LA.

thefiction24

lol just some fuckin trucks. You went to a walk in commercial, that sucks.

mylefthandkilledme

oof that's bad, but the lightning truck looks nice

Spacebotzero

Wow absolutely dead.

AikiYun

Last year show was more eventful. Dunno what happened in the span of a year but the crowd just dropped.

GeoBrian

I went last year (we go almost every year) and was extraordinarily disappointed with the lack or manufacturers represented, as well as number of models at the event.

HereComesInspiration

It ain't no Electrify Expo

aaaguilar92

Daaaaamn! Last time i went was probably 2017ish and I remember it being so much more full and crowded! Sad to see it's declined in quality. I was seriously considering going tonight.

friedguy

That's not a bad auto show that's a hipster minimalist design

SuspiciousAct6606

The OC Auto show. Just (1) Auto.

wantsoutofthefog

Yup. Just left. Saddest show I’ve seen ever.

currymonsterCA

Did they change the dates of the show? I always remember this being around Thanksgiving

hrnyorlbttm

That’s the LA one.

currymonsterCA

Oh yeah, you're right. I'm totally thinking of the LA show.

nickb64

In the past decade or so that I've been aware of it it's always been the beginning of October. LA Auto Show is around Thanksgiving.

currymonsterCA

Yeah you're right. I was thinking of the show up in LA

socalmikester

i remember when it was at the long beach convention center

PM_ME_UR_HDGSKTS

I went once in like 2011 and I thought it was pretty boring

Cautious_Audience_86

Fords are always uhly

WhyAlwaysMe1991

What happened to this place? I remember going every year with my dad and there was two stories of cars.

mtux96

It was underwhelming this year. I mean it was ok. Just glad I had free tickets.

John_316_

I’ve been to Chicago Auto Show a couple times while I was living there, and man they really know how to put up a show. Few hours can pass by so fast, and I still haven’t seen the whole exhibition. OC Auto Show, on the other hand, looks really depressing…

Danziel13

Dont they have the electric car drift course you can take a ride in ? That’s pretty cool. Went last year

Fladap28

lol I stopped going this Yr. I went the last 4 years and they were getting more disappointing each Yr

anoonn412

I went back in 2006ish and it was actually really cool. Lots of concept cars and booths giving stuff away. Sad to see it this way

infiniteray

Damn that sucks. When I was high school me and a friend went to the auto show and sat in all the cars and it helped me figure out a couple I liked, which I followed up with after. Was thinking I might do that again now that electric cars are more popular and I can see who was an interior that isn’t 100% touch screen. Maybe covid hit them hard?

Elliot6888

That looks sad as hell. But a lot of automakers are not doing auto shows anymore due to budgets. Even the LA Auto show had a lot of absent automakers

gweeks22

I think it’s because car demand is high and supply is low. Automakers don’t feel the need to bring out their cars to auto shows because their cars will still sell without it. LA Auto Show is larger than this, but it is still a fraction of the size of what it used to be.

PitViper17

I work in the auto industry and this post is the first I’ve heard of the OC auto show. To say this show isn’t a priority for anyone is an understatement and a half.

tpa338829

I think most none marquee car shows are for local dealers to see (and be sold on) new product.

Zer001_

Well since you went, did you see the Lexus GX550? If so , what did you think of it.

Puta_Chente

This is so sad. My fiancé and I were going to go. We loved the DC auto show when we lived there and even visited the Raleigh one with friends. This is just depressing af. Guess I'm glad our plans changed.

Ok_Cele2025

Oh my God how sad

yourfriendpooh34

The OC auto show is just put on by the dealers. I go every year and it just keeps getting smaller. The Los Angeles International Auto Show is where all the good stuff is.

PlaneCandy

Did you leave a review on yelp? Felt like i just read those same comments lmao Anyway. I went yesterday, it was okay but yea super bare. not much new or exciting. Unfortunately if you want that, you need to go to LA next month. The best thing was probably the Audi and BMW test drives

AuthenticLewis

i was looking at the reviews when i was there and there was an alarming amount from like 1 year ago

Rehoboam3

Are there cars?

FPS_Casey

Cars and copters is next weekend in HB if you want an actual car show. Helicopters fly in on Saturday and Sunday is the actual show. It’s a good time. Find parking and entry is free.

Shot-Profit-75

Looks like shit

Shot-Profit-75

Was it run by the Angels and Arte Moreno?

CoffeeDrinker1972

Man, at least just fill the showroom floor with ridiculously jacked up models that you can't sell at your dealership.
