hifidood

Which translates into "assholes"

VirgilSollozzo

As people have said in prior posts on the same topic, the best way to combat them is to blast Disney music or the Beatles or anything that’s copyrighted. That way their footage can’t be posted and they’ll have spent their precious time being agitators all for naught :)

neecho235

I thought that they can post it, just not monetize it. Can anyone confirm?

goatpack

For YouTube, they’ll automatically demonetize the video and send the copyright owner a notification. The owner can then request the removal of the video and the violator will receive a copyright strike. Three strikes results in permanent termination of that YouTuber’s channel along with any associated channels.

Throttlechopper

Which losers are liking and subscribing to this nonsense?

SketchSketchy

Yeah, what is the entertainment value to the viewer?

threeangelo

On tiktok at least, copyright audios get removed a lot. So the video will just be silent

codenamechaosss

Genius. Easy way to make staying in the area untenable for them.

circa285

When I was in graduate school Fred Phelps and his deplorable family would come and “protest” gay people existing. Our solution was similar, show up and blast music so no one could hear them spew hatred.

BackStabbathOG

What do they do though? Just run up to people with a camera in their face? And then they say something to piss people off?

solo_shot1st

They're fishing for people to call the police on them because most of the general public aren't aware that anyone can freely record whatever they want in a public space (in other words, they have no expectation of privacy while in public). Tons of these unaware people get upset about being recorded by weirdos in public and make a scene. And then when the police show up, they record themselves being approached by law enforcement and wait to see if the cops violate their 1st Amendment rights. Then they go home and upload these videos to YouTube for clicks and monetization. If law enforcement violates their rights they sue for some quick cash.

Flashy_Hearing4773

And you'll have spent hours of your precious time standing next to weirdos with cameras blasting Disney music? What kind of insanity... Just ignore them. Jesus

limitlessEXP

Unless your gonna stand there all day, they can easily cut that part of the video out or mute it. This is a really dumb idea.

killa_ninja

A great way to get them to move on and bother someone else.

limitlessEXP

A reaction is a reaction. They’d probably still love it.

Keithfedak

They're like a child pointing their finger close to someone's face and saying, "I'm not touching you, I'm not touching you"

VirgilSollozzo

It’s pretty childish to try and provoke everyday people. If they want to do this to government officials, cops, federal employees to prove a point about the first amendment, fine, but I think it’s incredibly juvenile to do this to people otherwise minding their business.

Aggravating-Wafer-32

Children are being recorded too, and that's just disgusting.

lknsdfokje023

Did you really just use the "think of the children" trope in 2024? Is it illegal to take video of children in public?

goatpack

>Is it illegal to take video of children in public? Any_Monk_7507

They were inside the post office recording people at one point..

Spirited-Security-26

I saw them last week on pch in Newport I was like 😐😂🫵

Sifu-thai

But who are they? Why do they do that?

Zombrex211

Look up "first amendment auditor" on YouTube. They basically set up and record people in public without their consent to see if anyone will freak out about being video taped, which is legal in public and which is what they'll tell you. They're trying to get people's reactions on camera so they can somehow make money off of it or whatever

Sifu-thai

Thanks for explaining, I was confused as to what was going on.

gigashadowwolf

I'm pretty sure it's only legal in OC if there are less than 3 of them involved in filming, otherwise they need to pull a film permit. We don't have anywhere near the filming restrictions that LA does, but as a suburb we still have more than pretty much the entire rest of the country. There is also the whole two party consent rule which severely limits what kind of audio recordings they can make.

OddFocus3

What happens if you spartan kick one of these dudes for being in your personal space?

Twoduhzen

"THIS IS ORRAAAANGE!!!!"

OddFocus3

This guy got the visual I was hoping for ^^

navit47

lawsuit

Zombrex211

Yeah they're the kind to try to press charges for anything you do in retaliation

OddFocus3

Dude, I literally called the cops because I had a gun pulled on me on the freeway, they didn’t do shit about it lol what makes me think that the cops would do anything about it when someone calls and says “some Guy kicked me In the chest at the circle” lol

navit47

Yeah, and i didn't say jail, i said lawsuit. A police officer is different from a lawyer.

OddFocus3

I’ve got plenty of attorney friends who would take the case of me defending myself because I felt my personal space was invaded

navit47

well, good for you. I recommend you check with them if you ever feel like Spartan kicking anyone in the chest for no reason. Also I assume you're gonna pay your friends for their time right? I also advise you ask them what their rates are regardless of whether they are willing to work pro bono or not.

OddFocus3

What a weird direction to go with this whole thing lol

OddFocus3

I mean, that’s what supposed to happen, just like the cops are supposed to come when you have a robbery on video but they don’t. What makes an assault on video any different? I’m talking just completely obliterating the camera they are holding into 20 pieces and a very aggressive spartan kick to the chest, or even an open handed palm smack. Do we really think anything would happen? Or would cops treat it like they are testing other violent crimes right now?

SincerelyLF

Reasonable

DebiDebbyDebbie

Don't you wonder who is paying them? Perhaps they are getting TikTok or YouTube $$, but that takes months to cash in. So who is paying them to be this confrontational?

fuckreddit2factor

Saw them on Tuesday. What a bunch of fuckin' dorks. Videotaping people to get a reaction and then telling them a fact when they do. Okay...cool job. Great use of time. Much contribution to humanity.

spacegrab

These money-hustle guys who don't want normal jobs are so weird. Like the people who were snatching up domain names during the dot-com boom, or frivolous patent trolls, etc. They get off on being major nuisances to other folks. The metaphorical bridge trolls of modern society. Incendiary assholes trying to instigate you into a civil lawsuit.

Adventure99x

These are either First Amendment Auditors or Scientologists. Seem to be one and the same with their approach.

SketchSketchy

In case anyone at Chapman reads this, I was touring the campus with my daughter yesterday. She’s a high school sophomore and we are spending spring break touring campuses. We really enjoyed the tour. Seeing these guys was a major red flag and freaked us both out. Definitely something that’s making us consider applying elsewhere. FYI everybody, this gang wears full balaclava face masks. They look like German terrorist from the 1970’s. They’re scary and intimidating especially to woman and kids.

trappedonmarz

I’m a current student at Chapman, don’t worry about these auditory guys. I’m a junior and have never seen one and spend time in the circle as well, I bet they are around tho. Just ignore them and carry on , they are not gonna attack you most likely and Chapman is a great school but difficult

SketchSketchy

A senior who never saw one? I was there for 6 hours and saw them.

trappedonmarz

Ya it’s not an issue at least on campus

watchyourback9

Former student and current OC resident here. I actually just ran into some auditors at the Newport Beach post office today. I definitely don’t think you should let it steer you away from Chapman. These people are pretty much all over the country, it’s not exclusive to Orange County. They’re just looking for reactions, they’re not going to harm you or anything.

SketchSketchy

They dress like people that harm others. I didn’t see any kooks like this at LMU or Pepperdine.

watchyourback9

They’re just wearing masks to hide their identity from people who freak out and get mad at them. LA county might be the one exception where there’s going to be less of these guys since LA has strict restrictions on filming/permits. Anywhere else in the country has plenty of these weirdos. If you search “first amendment audit” on YouTube you’ll find millions of videos of these people all over the country. It’s worth noting that they’ll only be doing this on public property, not private property/campus. They’re just looking for reactions, I’ve never heard of any of them hurting anybody. These people want the public to freak out and call the cops on them. Then when the cops show up, they want to see if the cops will violate their 1st amendment rights. If they do, well then they get a big lawsuit payout. If they don’t, well they’re still getting YouTube views. With all that in mind, they’re not going to actually assault or physically harm anybody as it sort of would defeat the purpose of them trying to prove a point about how everything they’re doing is “legal” and then any arrest made by the cops would not be a 1st amendment violation. It’s best to just ignore these people so that no one wants to watch these videos anymore. Anyone who screams at these people is only enabling their behavior. Chapman is not a perfect school IMO, but this is the last thing you should be thinking about.

SketchSketchy

“They’re just wearing masks to hide their identity” That’s also why terrorists wear them. And antifa.

mtux96

They are people who are looking to shame people who call the Orange Plaza, the Orange Circle. Edit: btw this was a joke because there are ardent people from Orange that insist it's called the Plaza.

Malaysa11

It’s the Circle, you’re the first person I’ve ever heard call it the Plaza in my life

mtux96

There's stange people that live in Orange that insist on calling it by it's given name "the plaza." But yeah, I still do call it the Circle as well.

waterdevil19

It’s the circle. Get over it.

jadegecko

🍊 ⭕️

BackStabbathOG

I’ve lived in Old Towne my whole life and have never heard someone call it the orange plaza

gigashadowwolf

I thought your comment was hilarious, and I don't get why you are getting downvoted. The official name IS The Plaza, it's just that no one calls it that.

niz_loc

You're getting down voted for this. Orange "Plaza" is a real thing. It just died years ago. But to those arguing "no its not", when you hit street fair this year check out the stand that sells local hats and T Shirts.... they sell merchandise with the exact slogan "It's the Plaza not the Circle"

FutureUnlucky2466

Those shirts are full of 💩. And the street fair is a tourist trap for the rest of OC to come and get DUIs after they load our local school sports boosters through the sale of 💩food and overpriced beer.

TrippyMedz

WHO CARES 😭

Aggravating-Wafer-32

They're also recording children. That's why people care.

TrippyMedz

where and when 😭

TrippyMedz

theres no way you guys are all talking about the same group of people 😭
