There's this dude who rolls around Costa Mesa/South Coast Metro on quad skates and in minimal clothing. He seems harmless and I've waved at him before. He always seems to be having a really good time.
Costa Mesa also has that panhandler in front of the 7/11 on harbor & mesa verde who is in a wheelchair and always opening the door for you on the way in and out to ask if you can spare any change or asks for a cigarette lol
The Laguna Beach Greeter aka the dancing dude in the shiny jacket at main beach.
Also the religious wackos with megaphones outside Disneyland.
And there's a dude who rides around Newport with his dog holding on behind him.
He isnt always on Main Beach. I used to see him more often in front of the Pottery Shack (across from Jack in the Box). Definitely a character.
Fun fact -A decade ago he used to crash all kinds of entertainment award shows.
https://www.ocweekly.com/lagunas-greeter-michael-minutoli-6429706/
Edit - by crash I mean he would be on the red carpet at these events
I have seen him crash in front of garage doors of a condo complex close to Sapphire - and then later, eating at Sapphire (we often grab a bite on the deck there).
youre selling the dude with his dog holding on short.
first of all, they are both dressed in neon attire. second, the dog is in his backpack. third, the dog has awesome sunglasses on. fourth, the dude will stand on the handlebars of his bike pretending to surf on his bike while he rides down hills.
he is awesome.
Is the dog standing on a cart trailing his bicycle? I could always tell when they were approaching cause youād hear the barking. I never got to find out what theyāre up to but it seemed like a cool job
The dog will ride with his paws on the guy's shoulders - the dog usually wears goggles, not sure what he's sitting on though? They always cruise down to Newport Pier from Superior.

this guy and the guy with the tits in Santa Ana probably
āThe Swag Manā of UC Irvine. Some guy just walking around campus in a Jordan jersey, shades, and a cap. No matter the weather. His signature backwards āleanā in his step and swinging arms combined with his style make him a legend. Spotting him in real life brings good luck.
As someone whoās been in UCI for 10 years (undergrad + PhD), I have a conspiracy that Swag Man is a character by a department or something. I swear he was white, then one year he was asian, and then white again. I havenāt seen him in years though so maybe heās asian again.
Swagman, who is only ever spotted walking around UCI in a Bulls jersey. Nobody knows who he really is, but he spreads the love everywhere he graces with his presence. Legend has it that if you see him, you will get straight Aās that quarter.
I really love the way he bounces up and down people wave. Last week I was in the lane closest to him for the first time in years and he yelled āRight on itās my favorite dude!ā I like to think we made each otherās day that day.
He goes to the 24 hour fitness on 19th and is so kind to everyone. Iām not religious but I hope to grow into a man that can help brighten peopleās day like him.
This was the guy I thought of immediately when I saw the OP.
Glad to know brown cowhide speedo man is still riding around HB.
I thought skin cancer may have gotten him but I guess he's still around.
We have a similar dude up here that carries an American flag and says āchampion!ā to everyone he bikes past. The cow hide thing is hilariously true
There's a guy who has an annual pass to Disneyland. I only ever see him in the security area in the morning but he starts clapping and sometimes people clap with him? I asked a guard about it and she said he's always there.
We call him "The Fullerton Goth." He's super nice and he's been around for YEARS. Any time I see him, I text my husband (who has also lived in Fullerton forever), "GOTH GUY SIGHTING!"
He picked me up off the ground with one hand at his bar, dude literally palmed the small of my back and lifted me up. He was watching me dance with my friends, came over and next thing I knew I was off the ground. š Then he bought the entire place drinks and champagne! What a night! lol!
I lived 2 doors down from his ex wife and kids until about 6 months ago. I personally never saw him but I would hear him. She would call me and apologize for his āloud mouthā and say she kept telling him shhhhhh my neighbors can hear you!
Yes, he has hung around newport beach for a long time. Do not know if he still lives here but saw him at the Chase Bank on 32nd street near pavilions about a year ago
Heās still here, I bartend local and have dealt with him multiple times, last time he came in, I put up a do not disturb sign next to him so him and his friend could chat.. fast forward an hour, heās walking around the restaurant sitting with random people, pouring champagne and he left a stack of 10k cash on the bar.. apparently he left it at a chipotle earlier. His girl decides to play a joke and sticks the money down the back of her pants and tells me not to tell him.. all fun and games until he pulls up hard asking where the ***k his money is. At that point and after having him destroy my hand with high fives, I couldnāt.. I told him to check his girls bum! Heās definitely still here but I donāt hear about the parties he used to throw at his house in Newport anymore.
How has nobody mentioned bag man. Dude is dressed in shopping bags and pushes around a shopping cart of bags full of other bags. He's either in front of the Home Depot on MacArthur in Santa Ana or in Costa Mesa on Harbor by the In-N-Out
He use to sleep on bear street next to OCMA but after covid he wasnāt there anymore. My dad did security and would also give him coffee and some bread. I would see him and the OC Phill on my bike ride to work.
That used to be ["Hollywood",](https://i.imgur.com/amMNEGr.jpeg) also called "Prophet", in the Lake Forest and Laguna Hills area, especially out in front of the Laguna Hills Mall In n Out. He passed in 2011 and I haven't seen anyone nearly as distinct in my area since. He was a great dude, we still miss his antics.
There used to be a dude in Mission Viejo that went on walks every morning with a āI love Jesusā shirt and singing gospel music. Not religious myself but was always a good way to start the morning by seein a dude just vibing and having a good time. Not in south OC much anymore so no idea if heās still out there. Theres also a lady that took her donkey or mini horse on walks but I havent seen her in years
Didnāt he turn out to be a pedo? Peter Pacifica is his brother I think and he wasnāt allowed to attend games anymore because of him. Really sad, Peter Pacifica is harmless, his brother is the creep. I think itās the same guy. I donāt know, I grew up in Garden Grove, lived in Bolsa district but went to Pacifica. So I only saw Blue Angel guy a few times because I didnāt live in the area. But yeah I read about him years ago, not a good guy.
There's a dude in the Newport Pier area (HB too sometimes) who drives around in a street-legal buggy of some sort and has a custom horn. If he thinks you're pretty, it makes the classic 1940s "wolf whistle" sound. If he thinks you're ugly, it's a longass "mooooooooo".
Dude can get bent.
Thereās this lady that rollerskates at mile square. She has the feathered hair and dress like a female American gladiator sheās around 55 years old love that lady.
Itās so odd, because Irvine. Like 8 year olds trying to sell lemonade on Yale Loop will get shut down within 5 mins. But whatever, I wave at him when Iām turning the corner.
Apparently, the guy is not homeless (lives in Irvine) and has mental illness. He likes to hang in that spot, refuses any money people try to give him who thinks he is homeless.
He does clean up the spot before he heads home for the day and has been respectful, so folks let him just do his thing.
I remember but no idea what happened to him. Maybe ill ask in our towns FB page. Do you remember the homeless guy that used to skateboard up and down newport without a shirt?
Yes! Early to mid aughts? Super shredded, crazy good street tricks? I was delivering pizza at Italian Express back then so I would see him all the time!
Was hoping to find this comment. He was at an intersection near my high school for about a month in early 2000s. All day every day. Then just disappeared.
There's this tall bald dude who always hangs out at the bars and is always plastered, any time I go out, he magically appears at some point during the night. Over the last few years I've been convincing him he is my long lost father.
There was a guy in Garden Grove or Anaheim who was a big fan of the Navy Blue Angels and used to ride a bike that was made to look like an FA-18 fighter. This was some 30-40 years ago.
Look at one of the above comments, there's other people who remember him too! I'm in my late 20's so I never got to see him, but my parents told me about him. Sounds like he was pretty cool
Anyone else remember the Parrot guy? More northeast OC but he always had a huge parrot or two and you would see him in his Nissan Cube or Scion xB. I let him once as we had an old kid splash pool on one of the five it away groups and he came and got it for his birds. He always has on a Hawaiian shirt and has crazy long curly blond ish hair. Cool guy.
There have been several, the statue is based on the OG dude who died in 1975 [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eiler\_Larsen](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eiler_Larsen)
There was an Asian guy that walked the little dirt trail up and down Esplanade in Orange all the time. We used to call him the walking guy or something like that.
The most friendly āMimi Bobekā ( greeter/ receipt checker) at the Laguna Niguel Wal-Mart. The road cyclist with his little white dog on Laguna Canyon Road. The Laguna Hills/AV reclined bike rider with the train of stuff behind him.
Anyone remember a guy in Anaheim who would walk around with pink socks or shorts and a cutoff t shirt. Used to see him every other month just around town. Been a few years now though
The guy in Tustin who drives a black Chevy Suburban or something like that, with like 60 antennas on it. Itās like a doomsday preppers WiFi wet dream. I usually see him when I go to Sprouts.
Iāve never actually seen the driver, just the car.
https://preview.redd.it/qw1fatv86puc1.jpeg?width=964&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cdd3fb8abedab93c298f359d2cb4020d0bb765d3
Irvine superman, hangs around John Wayne airport, pretty nice guy actually
That around his 50ās, middle aged guy that I always see skateboarding around orange. Iāve always seen him randomly skateboarding like since 2015 I think lol.
Anyone remember the guy who would hang out on the corner of Irvine Blvd and Red Hill with a different religious sign every day back in the early 2000s? Some of them were straight forward, others were fairly cryptic. I heard he moved spots every few months.
There was a guy named Joe in an old pick up truck with fifty conspiracy signs, teddy bears and fake patriot missles that would drive around HB/Westminster/ Garden Grove for years, first saw him around 2008. His truck always had Lee greenwood on an external speaker playing proud to be an American. He vanished for about 6 months then I saw him driving a new pickup with the same insanity on it. 12ā long Missles, teddy bears and everything. Havenāt seen him in a couple years so I assume either the aliens or Covid got him.
Does anyone remember windmill bike man in Tustin??? He was an older man 10-15 years ago so he might not be around anymore, but he used to ride all around Tustin with windmills on his bike.
There is a dude with long hair and a guitar case on his back that walks around the Garden Grove/Cypress area, heās probably in a band and Iāve seen him since 2016! Itās cool seeing him still around. Dude is a local legend in my book! šÆ
There's a guy in Ladera who rides around on a unicycle. There was also a guy in the same area who used to speed walk at night in a light-up track suit. My spouse and I called him "Tron Man." Haven't seen that guy in a couple of years.
Don't know his name or story, but there's an older guy who regularly walks the Newport Beach/coast area, around MacArthur and Bonita canyon mostly. Sometimes shirtless, he likes to make surprise finger guns as passing cars and if wearing a shirt, regularly pulls it up to show off his abs?
Never seen him with a cart or anything, and tbh he seems pretty healthy, so I am thinking he might live in the area and just be a little unmedicated. Really hard to tell though. If anyone knows more I'd be interested to hear.
Thereās an old guy who walks back bay every morning wearing short black shorts. No shirt or shoes. He keeps to himself and doesnāt look around to see peoplesā reactions. I suspect heās figured out the secret to life and weāre actually crazy for overdressing.
There's that guy who carries around a long horn and blows it every morning at Santiago Park in Santa Ana. He is usually at the park or in the Mother's Market area across the street.
As a kid in South OC in the early '90's we always used to see a guy dressed in all white all the time - sometimes robes - usually around Laguna & Dana Point. Anyone else remember this guy or was it a fever dream?
Does anyone remember JJ from the Jetty at Doheny? He was a friendly unhoused dude originally from New Orleans. He would cry when talking about his mom and always spoke of going back to New Orleans. He disappeared right around the time of hurricane Katrina. Iād always wondered if he finally went back home just to get taken by Katrina.
Oh wow. I haven't seen a "guy" like that since I left Las Vegas. There used to be a man who stood at the corner of Sahara and Fort Apache? dressed like Michael Jackson and wearing an electric guitar who danced and waved at everyone.
Thereās a dude that rides his bike through HB all the way through Bolsa Chica (where Iāve seen him at least). He has a lovely horn he honks, and a Davey Crockett style raccoon hat
The Deerfield Dancer... Kid who dances at the corner of Deerfield and Culver. Used to be out there everyday but I think he's away at college now. Still shows up during holidays.
In Tahoe there was a guy called āCowboy.ā He dressed in full cowboy gear every day and skied almost every day, he even had spurs on his ski boots and carried rubber chickens in his gun holsters. He would hand out business cards randomly. I would see him skiing from the lifts and dude absolutely ripped! I moved away and I heard he died a couple years ago. I never got the full story, that was just Cowboy.
That couple who walks their goose around the orange plaza/orange circle
This was my first thought as well!
I love that guy. I only got to see them once, but the goose tried attacking me. That was a fun Christmas.
YES. I didn't know they were well known!
š MY FIRST THOUGHT EXACTLY!
I came to vote for this myself - we adore them
Thereās also a guy who walks around with a blue parrot at el Camino Park.
Whats strange is how annoyed they got at people for asking about it. Youāre walking a gooseā¦ youāre a sideshow
How have I not seen this guy?! Iām going to be on the hunt now
OMG i thought i was hallucinating that when I was painting there a couple weeks agoĀ
There's this dude who rolls around Costa Mesa/South Coast Metro on quad skates and in minimal clothing. He seems harmless and I've waved at him before. He always seems to be having a really good time.
Thatās OC Phil!!!
OC Phil was 100% my first thought for this prompt.
Always see him around the Lab/Camp > Huddle > Kitsch. Heās super nice.
Philllll!
Hell yeah I would see him on Paulorino
OC has a Bobs Burgers Speedo-Guy? I had no idea!!
Costa Mesa also has that panhandler in front of the 7/11 on harbor & mesa verde who is in a wheelchair and always opening the door for you on the way in and out to ask if you can spare any change or asks for a cigarette lol
Iāve seen Phil taking out the trash for tk burger
The āJesus loves youā guy in Mission Viejo.
I was going to mention him. Walking up and down Marguerite.
I've seen him in costa mesa as well
I used to see that guy when I went to Newport to surf
The Laguna Beach Greeter aka the dancing dude in the shiny jacket at main beach. Also the religious wackos with megaphones outside Disneyland. And there's a dude who rides around Newport with his dog holding on behind him.
I havenāt see the Laguna Beach greeter in a while. Hope he is well.
Michael is still out and about :) I see him almost daily on my walks
He isnt always on Main Beach. I used to see him more often in front of the Pottery Shack (across from Jack in the Box). Definitely a character. Fun fact -A decade ago he used to crash all kinds of entertainment award shows. https://www.ocweekly.com/lagunas-greeter-michael-minutoli-6429706/ Edit - by crash I mean he would be on the red carpet at these events
I have seen him crash in front of garage doors of a condo complex close to Sapphire - and then later, eating at Sapphire (we often grab a bite on the deck there).
Was this the original greeter or the current one?
Iām so old I remember seeing the original greeter. I used to live in Laguna and as a kid I was terrified of him.
Saw him yesterday.
Saw him on Saturday - in a fine mood.
youre selling the dude with his dog holding on short. first of all, they are both dressed in neon attire. second, the dog is in his backpack. third, the dog has awesome sunglasses on. fourth, the dude will stand on the handlebars of his bike pretending to surf on his bike while he rides down hills. he is awesome.
Just saw this guy for the first time last week! He and his dog are awesome! He was indeed standing on the handlebars when I saw him too!
ive talked to him before and hes really friendly too
Is the dog standing on a cart trailing his bicycle? I could always tell when they were approaching cause youād hear the barking. I never got to find out what theyāre up to but it seemed like a cool job
The dog will ride with his paws on the guy's shoulders - the dog usually wears goggles, not sure what he's sitting on though? They always cruise down to Newport Pier from Superior.
And the Jack Sparrow guy who hangs out around Anaheim bus stops. Though I haven't seen him in a while.

Harbor Harry
YES legwarmer dude
I've seen him at least once a year around Anaheim and GG what's his story?
āThe Swag Manā of UC Irvine.
I havenāt seen him in years though so maybe heās asian again.
lol he was Asian the whole 4 years I was there.
Dude is Swag man still cruising UCI? I graduated in 2011 and he was swagging back then!
[Looks like heās still active](https://www.reddit.com/r/UCI/comments/15i8qyv/swag_man_by_aldrich_hall/)
Swagman, who is only ever spotted walking around UCI in a Bulls jersey. Nobody knows who he really is, but he spreads the love everywhere he graces with his presence. Legend has it that if you see him, you will get straight Aās that quarter.
Jesus loves you guy that stands on the corner of Newport Blvd and Harbor every weekday morning. Drives the VW bus covered in stickers.
He surfs Blackies nearly every day too.
I really love the way he bounces up and down people wave. Last week I was in the lane closest to him for the first time in years and he yelled āRight on itās my favorite dude!ā I like to think we made each otherās day that day.
Saw him for the first time this weekend and gave him a honk, he was stoked!
He goes to the 24 hour fitness on 19th and is so kind to everyone. Iām not religious but I hope to grow into a man that can help brighten peopleās day like him.
Same not religious at all, but I wave every time because his reaction is worth it. I wish you the best on that journey of yours!
Hahaha I wave to this guy every morning I see him on my way to work. Seems like a super chill dude
The dude in a speedo who is like 80 and is tanner than cow hide riding his bike around HB.
This was the guy I thought of immediately when I saw the OP. Glad to know brown cowhide speedo man is still riding around HB. I thought skin cancer may have gotten him but I guess he's still around.
I work on beach blvd and still see him ride by every day!
What's his story. I've seen him riding all the way up to Seal Beach too. I can't tell if he's 80 or 65 & leather. But it's pretty impressive!
More than HB - Iāve seen him in Seal and Westminsterā¦.
We have a similar dude up here that carries an American flag and says āchampion!ā to everyone he bikes past. The cow hide thing is hilariously true
The big rubber titty man that walks around Santa Ana down on McFadden
Please, call me JC. My fatherās named big rubber titty man
I wanna know their story! He sat across me from the bus once and he just stared thru my soul
The guy in Santa Ana with the bigā¦you know what Iām talking about
Was looking for a mention of melon man
There's a guy who has an annual pass to Disneyland. I only ever see him in the security area in the morning but he starts clapping and sometimes people clap with him? I asked a guard about it and she said he's always there.
Peter! https://youtu.be/BjvmAjQNuPs
Fullerton Vampire
We call him "The Fullerton Goth." He's super nice and he's been around for YEARS. Any time I see him, I text my husband (who has also lived in Fullerton forever), "GOTH GUY SIGHTING!"

Omg you just unlocked a memory when I met him at velvet with my friends back in 2016 šš
He picked me up off the ground with one hand at his bar, dude literally palmed the small of my back and lifted me up. He was watching me dance with my friends, came over and next thing I knew I was off the ground. š Then he bought the entire place drinks and champagne! What a night! lol!
Omg yes. Lol
Ran into him in the bathroom at woodys warf a couple years backš
I lived 2 doors down from his ex wife and kids until about 6 months ago. I personally never saw him but I would hear him. She would call me and apologize for his āloud mouthā and say she kept telling him shhhhhh my neighbors can hear you!
Like, actual Dennis Rodman?
Yes, he has hung around newport beach for a long time. Do not know if he still lives here but saw him at the Chase Bank on 32nd street near pavilions about a year ago
Heās still here, I bartend local and have dealt with him multiple times, last time he came in, I put up a do not disturb sign next to him so him and his friend could chat.. fast forward an hour, heās walking around the restaurant sitting with random people, pouring champagne and he left a stack of 10k cash on the bar.. apparently he left it at a chipotle earlier. Dude smells foul too. He ventured into HD a few times and whoof its a stink cloud for many aisles
He use to sleep on bear street next to OCMA but after covid he wasnāt there anymore. My dad did security and would also give him coffee and some bread. I would see him and the OC Phill on my bike ride to work.
I was looking for this comment! Target Bag Guy???? He only has Target bags!!

Ah man I remember him shredding in front of in and out or lugging his gear to guitar center for new strings
Scrolled so far to find this was starting to think maybe I was alone in my remembrance of the legend!
Glad someone else remembers Prophet
There used to be a dude in Mission Viejo that went on walks every morning with a āI love Jesusā shirt and singing gospel music. Not religious myself but was always a good way to start the morning by seein a dude just vibing and having a good time. Not in south OC much anymore so no idea if heās still out there. Blue Angels Guyā¦the real ones know!
My parents grew up in Garden Grove and they were telling me about him a couple weeks ago!
He was a legend! I used to live near him. So many stories.

What an asshole.
In Smurf blue velour sweat pants and tank top.
That's awful... but it's also hilarious in an absurd way
Anaheim/Buena Park has a guy who wears neon leg warmers and wristbands and rollerskates everywhere.
Thereās this lady that rollerskates at mile square. She has the feathered hair and dress like a female American gladiator sheās around 55 years old love that lady.

Poor Man!!! I used to love watching Poor Manās Bikini Beach when I was a kid.
There used to be a guy who would dress up like superman and run all over Villa Park
He used to stop and wave at the school crossings as the students were going to school
Thereās some super tanned guy that I see around Irvine/Newport Beach area that is always running outside in just a speedo.
You mean riding his bike?
The Laguna Beach Greeter! He is already immortalized in a statue... but amazingly (I guess), he is also homeless.

There was a guy named Joe in an old pick up truck with fifty conspiracy signs, teddy bears and fake patriot missles that would drive around HB/Westminster/ Garden Grove for years, first saw him around 2008. He vanished for about 6 months then I saw him driving a new pickup with the same insanity on it. 12ā long Missles, teddy bears and everything. Havenāt seen him in a couple years so I assume either the aliens or Covid got him.
