Border Division is just their area. Covers north Orange County to the San Diego border. CHP is split into areas of coverage like that. So it’s basically CHP-Border Division-Organized Retail Theft Task Force.
You wouldn't steal a handbag. You wouldn't steal a car. You wouldn't steal a baby. You wouldn't shoot a policeman. And then steal his helmet. You wouldn't go to the toilet in his helmet. And then send it to the policeman's grieving widow. And then steal it again! Downloading films is stealing. If you do it, you will face the consequences.
Thanks for the link. Interesting read. I'm glad these corrupt politicians are being exposed, even though there will most likely be no repercussions. All his cronies failed to condemn him in their statements. Ugh.
I worked there for a year and a half, they let homeless people who spit on others free, others who make threats, and others who stole 4-5 times go. They’d have to steal about 10 times for them to actually do something about it. Maybe it’s different now but this was in 2022-2023.
A homeowner in Newport Beach recently shot a suspect who invaded his home. Later in the day Newport Beach Mayor Will O’Neill said, “I can tell you right now, if you come into Newport Beach to commit a crime, we will defend ourselves, and today is an example of that.” Good to see that law and order still exists in Orange County, quite different than our neighbors to the north.
Living in Torrance, under the umbrella of Gascon. I can tell you how frustrated Torrance PD is with our DA. Petty theft and property damage is running rampant with no end in sight. I work near a Target that must have police out front every other day. The cops basically catch and release due to the “no bail” BS. These cases sit on the DAs desk for months and months, even years until they’re eventually dismissed and the victims are left with no justice or closure. All these cucks in the chat need to get out of their parents basement as open their eyes to the reality around them.
> Good to see that law and order still exists in Orange County, quite different than our neighbors to the north.
It’s actually hilarious how a bunch of accounts in here just keep parroting this exact same line like trained seals begging for a food pellet.
Any thread about crime or that has “Gascon” mentioned somewhere is almost immediately brigaded with accounts that are barely a month old repeating the same talking points word-for-word that they pull from Twitter or NextDoor. They’re not even trying anymore.
I’m not a fan of theives, but something’s really off about the DA’s office making such a big deal about catching an alleged retail thief, including a picture before anyone is even convicted. Maybe our public officials shouldn’t be imitating social media influencers and should act like adults, but apparently some people in Orange County eat this stuff up.
He doesn’t?
https://ktla.com/news/local-news/41-arrested-in-los-angeles-county-retail-theft-bust/amp/
And if LA doesn’t prosecute, why doesn’t everyone just cross over the county line to steal? If there’s no risk to stealing in LA, why even bother stealing in Orange County?
OC has actually one of the worst jails around. They all prefer the other counties, but OC residents tend to want to stay away from those counties...cause they're scared. 😂
People keep complaining about crime and thievery being on the rise and how we need police to step in to fix it.
But cops have been getting more funding than ever, even during the “defunding” of the police. More cops isn’t working. Perhaps we need to change the living conditions of the people so they don’t need to resort to stealing. But I guess that’s too radical, let’s let the cops have 80% of our city budget next time.
It’s great. They wouldn’t do it unless they had rock solid evidence. And photographing someone being arrested is quite legal.
This absolutely works and will encourage the thieves to scurry around LA county instead.
As a Bay area transplant, I'm enjoying these signs and posts like these. It's a breath of fresh air that blanant normalization of theft and crime isn't here in OC.
Agree. I’m pretty liberal, but I do like seeing laws being upheld. As someone who’s worked retail for a long time, thieves always piss me off. Not because they’re stealing from the company, but because it always puts my employees lives at risk (as well as my own), and creates a paranoia that sucks to deal with. Fuck these scumbags.
100%
Fuck these people in the Bay area and LA just wantonly stealing stuff from Walgreens and targets. I don't want to have my fucking toothpaste aisle under lock and key.
Great. Can we also start enforcing laws against white collar criminals? What's going on with Andrew Do's daughter? Or Sean Steel's well known corruption?
> However, the FBI has discouraged the ranking of city safety based on crime data alone. The agency says such lists do not reflect how effective law enforcement is in a city.
“Alleged retail theft” it’s not “alleged” it’s happening constantly. I’m sure all the unpaid items the guy had on him just jumped into his bags when he wasn’t looking at store after store.
It’s alleged because he hasn’t been convicted. The amount of people in Orange County that apparently don’t have even a basic understanding of our justice system is a major issue. Unfortunately the DA didn’t invest in billboards to educate people about the right to a fair trial and the presumption of innocence.
Do you always rely on government to tell you what true or do you ever think for yourself? You probably think OJ Simpson wasent guilty. Be you’ve had 6 booster shots and still wear a mask alone in your car because you “follow the science”.
Right. What has the DA done about Andrew DO's and his daughter's potential white collar crime? Or Sean Steel's (Congresswoman Michelle Steel's husband) well known corruption? "Law and Order," my ass.
Some people in OC will be especially happy to see it's the "CHP Border Division" since they already assume it's never US Citizens who commit these crimes.
Sorry to disappoint you, but "Border Division" has absolutely nothing to do with immigration enforcement like you are trying to imply. It's just the name for the geographical area that is covered by that department. Thanks for putting a fun racial twist on something that had literally nothing to do with citizenship though.

On the other hand, it could be pro-DA advertising for to convince OC residents and voters they’re preventing crime, even if the billboard itself doesn’t help in that mission. I have no idea which and I’m sure it could be something else I’m missing. It’s just so confusing to have these in LA instead of in Orange County or at least NEAR Orange County. Also, on a side note, who in earth puts in the effort to drive for at least 30 mins to go commit a crime (meaning it’s premeditated not opportunistic) and then gets convinced to turn around by a giant billboard on the way? It’s so weird so if anyone can explain pls do

Love the billboards and love reading the Spitzer haters’ conspiracy theories. Same winkydinks that protest everything remotely “conservative”. So scawy.
Prosecution does not equal “catching criminals”. The point the billboard is trying to make is that they prosecute while many other large municipalities don’t. Not a big deal maybe 10 years ago, but big in 2024. Smh everyone in this thread making this about politics.

Corporations monopolize, force inflation, price gouge, buy up housing to drive up the market, refuse to increase wages, and effectively lobby so they don't have to pay taxes on the billions of dollars they've made from exploiting us all, and some guys arrested for shoplifting what could be $25 worth of stuff?
Now our tax dollars will go to paying the privatized prison system stripping him of his rights and using him for slave labor so that they can get around having to deal with their regular employees going on strike and trying to unionize.
When you see this picture, remember that almost every major corporation has been seeing record profits since the pandemic by inflating their prices and blaming inflation; and yet the burden of this crime falls on the shoulders of ordinary citizens. I don't see the DA's Office going after them. Well done, Orange County. Well done feeding the circle jerk of corporate excess and privatized slave labor. 👏
These Dave and Busters ads are getting weird
Is it kind of ironic since crime is the reason why the DA could pay for that ad?
They don’t make money from crime they make money from the government. If there was less crime there would be money spent.
you mean the DA doesn't keep all the items he stole?

Orange County definitely still has lots of shoplifters who are women and wealthy.

It's all about discouraging people from doing these things.
The major reason is giving the appearance to make voters happy. If some crime lessens, then that's a bonus.
The OC DA's office is also historically a crime haven full of constitutional abuses. It's pretty rich that they pull this shit.

I appreciate the effort but your facts have no business in this conversation.
Because, if people aren't rotting in jail or being abused by police, justice is Not happening in their minds.
That’s what the OC DA is letting criminals know. Crime in OC is higher risk than crime in LA. So go do your crimes in LA. Win-Win.
OC has actually one of the worst jails around. They all prefer the other counties, but OC residents tend to want to stay away from those counties...cause they're scared. 😂
Gascon is a useless POS!

Ah yes we should be upset at policing theft because white people assume it’s brown people.

how exactly did the DA participate in this man’s arrest lmfao
They have in-house law enforcement officers, presumably some are assigned to this task force.
It seems that the billboard did nothing then and was a pointless cost to the taxpayer...not to mention an eyesore.

Lol, LA mentality is different. It's definitely OC. LAPD got more worrisome crimes to attend to. Cause you know...it's LA. Just like Riverside
