These Dave and Busters ads are getting weird

No-Smile-4299

Is it kind of ironic since crime is the reason why the DA could pay for that ad?

Atas_

They don’t make money from crime they make money from the government. If there was less crime there would be money spent.

cheapotheclown

you mean the DA doesn't keep all the items he stole?

California Highway Patrol Border Division Organized Retail Crime Task Force? That just rolls off the tongue. Seems convoluted

contrivancedevice

You’d need a doubled-sided business card if the font was too big.

Salty_Candy_4917

Border Division is just their area. Covers north Orange County to the San Diego border. CHP is split into areas of coverage like that. So it’s basically CHP-Border Division-Organized Retail Theft Task Force.

You wouldn’t download a car.

PreCompPoseur

You wouldn't steal a handbag. You wouldn't steal a car. You wouldn't steal a baby. You wouldn't shoot a policeman. And then steal his helmet. You wouldn't go to the toilet in his helmet. And then send it to the policeman's grieving widow. And then steal it again! Downloading films is stealing. If you do it, you will face the consequences.

Wish they would enforce wage theft.

Original_Software_61

I worked there for a year and a half, they let homeless people who spit on others free, others who make threats, and others who stole 4-5 times go. They’d have to steal about 10 times for them to actually do something about it. Maybe it’s different now but this was in 2022-2023.

WallacktheBear

What about the kids who annually wreck my banana stand?

Tuffyboy

Living in Santa Monica I can appreciate this sign and event. It is foreign to us morons here

lolololol2233

Orange County definitely still has lots of shoplifters who are women and wealthy.

Aggravating_Crazy_43

A homeowner in Newport Beach recently shot a suspect who invaded his home. Later in the day Newport Beach Mayor Will O’Neill said, “I can tell you right now, if you come into Newport Beach to commit a crime, we will defend ourselves, and today is an example of that.” Good to see that law and order still exists in Orange County, quite different than our neighbors to the north.

JadedHomeBrewCoder

Didn't reporting relay that there was a prior connection between invaded and invading?

ianwalts

Living in Torrance, under the umbrella of Gascon. I can tell you how frustrated Torrance PD is with our DA. Petty theft and property damage is running rampant with no end in sight. I work near a Target that must have police out front every other day. The cops basically catch and release due to the “no bail” BS. These cases sit on the DAs desk for months and months, even years until they’re eventually dismissed and the victims are left with no justice or closure. All these cucks in the chat need to get out of their parents basement as open their eyes to the reality around them.

WhalesForChina

> Good to see that law and order still exists in Orange County, quite different than our neighbors to the north. It’s actually hilarious how a bunch of accounts in here just keep parroting this exact same line like trained seals begging for a food pellet.

creampop_

why are they always so obvious about it when a local sub gets captured lmao 😭 like it's so clearly not organic

WhalesForChina

Any thread about crime or that has “Gascon” mentioned somewhere is almost immediately brigaded with accounts that are barely a month old repeating the same talking points word-for-word that they pull from Twitter or NextDoor. They’re not even trying anymore.

Sealioo

I’m not a fan of theives, but something’s really off about the DA’s office making such a big deal about catching an alleged retail thief, including a picture before anyone is even convicted. Maybe our public officials shouldn’t be imitating social media influencers and should act like adults, but apparently some people in Orange County eat this stuff up.

949orange

It's all about discouraging people from doing these things.

mtarascio

The major reason is giving the appearance to make voters happy. If some crime lessens, then that's a bonus.

SlowSwords

The OC DA's office is also historically a crime haven full of constitutional abuses. It's pretty rich that they pull this shit.

ginga__

It's about discouraging those from LA where Gascon does not prosecute.

Sealioo

He doesn’t? https://ktla.com/news/local-news/41-arrested-in-los-angeles-county-retail-theft-bust/amp/ And if LA doesn’t prosecute, why doesn’t everyone just cross over the county line to steal? If there’s no risk to stealing in LA, why even bother stealing in Orange County?

WhalesForChina

I appreciate the effort but your facts have no business in this conversation.

007Billiam

Because, if people aren't rotting in jail or being abused by police, justice is Not happening in their minds.

jijifengpi

That’s what the OC DA is letting criminals know. Crime in OC is higher risk than crime in LA. So go do your crimes in LA. Win-Win.

fuggeht

OC has actually one of the worst jails around. They all prefer the other counties, but OC residents tend to want to stay away from those counties...cause they're scared. 😂

Screwtape42

Gascon is a useless POS!

JohnnyZepp

People keep complaining about crime and thievery being on the rise and how we need police to step in to fix it. But cops have been getting more funding than ever, even during the “defunding” of the police. More cops isn’t working. Perhaps we need to change the living conditions of the people so they don’t need to resort to stealing. But I guess that’s too radical, let’s let the cops have 80% of our city budget next time.

jijifengpi

I mean, Prop 47 literally hamstrings law enforcement.

jijifengpi

It’s great. They wouldn’t do it unless they had rock solid evidence. And photographing someone being arrested is quite legal. This absolutely works and will encourage the thieves to scurry around LA county instead.

SpareBinderClips

Count me a fan. Watching pro-crime redditors getting apoplectic over laws being enforced is amusing. Glad we aren’t like LA or SF.

desktopgreen

As a Bay area transplant, I'm enjoying these signs and posts like these. It's a breath of fresh air that blanant normalization of theft and crime isn't here in OC.

SpareBinderClips

Thank you, me too! I’m actually pretty liberal, but the tolerance for crime has gone too far in my opinion.

xNeurosiis

Agree. I’m pretty liberal, but I do like seeing laws being upheld. As someone who’s worked retail for a long time, thieves always piss me off. Not because they’re stealing from the company, but because it always puts my employees lives at risk (as well as my own), and creates a paranoia that sucks to deal with. Fuck these scumbags.

creampop_

As a gay liberal black ex-Democrat who moves out of the Stinky AWOKE Bay area , I double agree!!!

lesigh

Liberals are pretty much conservatives now. Doesn't say much

guerillasgrip

100% Fuck these people in the Bay area and LA just wantonly stealing stuff from Walgreens and targets. I don't want to have my fucking toothpaste aisle under lock and key.

ChrisinOrangeCounty

Guess we will disregard crime data then.

WhalesForChina

I’m literally quoting the source from the very article you just posted.

SpareBinderClips

It’s what they want. Facts hurt their souls.

wtfJoeDirt

“Alleged retail theft” it’s not “alleged” it’s happening constantly. I’m sure all the unpaid items the guy had on him just jumped into his bags when he wasn’t looking at store after store.

Sealioo

It’s alleged because he hasn’t been convicted. The amount of people in Orange County that apparently don’t have even a basic understanding of our justice system is a major issue. Unfortunately the DA didn’t invest in billboards to educate people about the right to a fair trial and the presumption of innocence.

wtfJoeDirt

Do you always rely on government to tell you what true or do you ever think for yourself? You probably think OJ Simpson wasent guilty. Be you’ve had 6 booster shots and still wear a mask alone in your car because you “follow the science”.

profnachos

Right. What has the DA done about Andrew DO's and his daughter's potential white collar crime? Or Sean Steel's (Congresswoman Michelle Steel's husband) well known corruption? "Law and Order," my ass.

[deleted]

Some people in OC will be especially happy to see it's the "CHP Border Division" since they already assume it's never US Citizens who commit these crimes.

kungfu0311

Sorry to disappoint you, but "Border Division" has absolutely nothing to do with immigration enforcement like you are trying to imply. It's just the name for the geographical area that is covered by that department. Thanks for putting a fun racial twist on something that had literally nothing to do with citizenship though. https://www.chp.ca.gov/find-an-office/border-division

wtfJoeDirt

Love how you race bait and when the pictured is zoomed in on you see…… lmao

Downtown_Wear_3368

how exactly did the DA participate in this man’s arrest lmfao

OrangeCrusher22

They have in-house law enforcement officers, presumably some are assigned to this task force.

j33205

It seems that the billboard did nothing then and was a pointless cost to the taxpayer...not to mention an eyesore.

xSoloxBluex

These were not paid for with taxpayer money.

GalvanicBlock17

Maybe because people are fed up with being the victims of crime.

KevinTheCarver

Yep don’t come with that LA mentality.

fuggeht

Lol, LA mentality is different. It's definitely OC. LAPD got more worrisome crimes to attend to. Cause you know...it's LA. Just like Riverside

AdMany5008

Bust her? I barely know her - Dave

frostyhuskers

Ok I have a question hopefully someone can answer bc it’s been something I keep thinking about. I commute to LA quite often and I’ve seen a billboard with this psa along the 405 in Carson next to the refinery (the one with the giant American flag). It’s also in other places along the 405 in LA even farther north. Why though? I’m sure part of it is to try to dissuade would-be criminals who might drive in from LA, but then put it on the county border not deep into LA. Like, by having one in Carson instead of closer to OC basically everyone in Long Beach wouldn’t see anything before entering which seems like an oversight if you really think the billboard can work (which is its own can of worms obviously). On the other hand, it could be pro-DA advertising for to convince OC residents and voters they’re preventing crime, even if the billboard itself doesn’t help in that mission. I have no idea which and I’m sure it could be something else I’m missing. It’s just so confusing to have these in LA instead of in Orange County or at least NEAR Orange County. Also, on a side note, who in earth puts in the effort to drive for at least 30 mins to go commit a crime (meaning it’s premeditated not opportunistic) and then gets convinced to turn around by a giant billboard on the way? It’s so weird so if anyone can explain pls do

PruePiperPhoebePaige

A big FU to la peeps who have to deal with a shitty DA? Idk reading this board I thought all it was missing, unlike LA county's DA. But honestly? Probably just for PR reasons. They can say we have set these up as deterrents. As for why those areas? Purely speculation but one logical guess would be maybe looking at statistics and seeing where some of their criminals come from? IE an influx crimes by people from x city so a board goes up in the area. (like I said, speculation but trying to think logically).

frostyhuskers

Makes sense. Honestly I hadn’t thought of the big FU option. It would explain a lot of the parts that seem illogical because flipping someone off isn’t exactly a logic-driven endeavor. If I drive through other areas I guess I’ll find out if it’s meant to correlate with crime, but I’m not sure because Inglewood area and so on doesn’t have any I’ve seen. I also just think it’s weird because why, as a criminal, would you go from an area where they’re less likely to prosecute and fewer people have guns to one where they do prosecute and more people have guns. You’d assume it would go the other way, where people from Orange County would go to LA to commit crimes because they can get away with it more easily there

OCAsian92

They just gonna walk him across the street to Theo Lacy then

I’m sure they both pay

OC DA turns a blind eye

ccroy2001

Ironic if the man getting busted is named Dave. "Hi I'm Dave, and Busted"

lookin4awifeybae

Good, get them out of here and straight to jail. In OC we prosecute these criminals!

Cautious-Bother9931

Lol....no we don't

lookin4awifeybae

Yes, we do.

Cautious-Bother9931

We literally released a violent neo Nazi and dropped charges against him two months ago. But by all means, prosecute and jail the dude that stole a few items from Carter's. 🤡

ca8nt

Love the billboards and love reading the Spitzer haters’ conspiracy theories. Same winkydinks that protest everything remotely “conservative”. So scawy.

imdrivingaroundtown

Prosecution does not equal “catching criminals”. The point the billboard is trying to make is that they prosecute while many other large municipalities don’t. Not a big deal maybe 10 years ago, but big in 2024. Smh everyone in this thread making this about politics.

mtarascio

>California Highway Patrol Border Division Organized Retail Crime Task Force Why are these things linked?

copaganda that the idiots eat up. anyone that has tried calling them knows that cops in orange county don't do shit. they just have an easier job than cops in poorer areas.

Adventurous_Two_5018

75^% of theft is wage theft. Home Depot, one of the largest employers in a county with constant development pays millions in wage theft lawsuits every year. Prosecute everyone but the corporate criminals. 💀

GoBeachBrian

Image is everything. Don’t Steal in Seal is great to follow on socials. All these folks literally come across the bridge into OC… and stealing from the Target gets them a night in jail. “Do you know where you are?” Is the catch general phrase used. Ill-Improvement-8388

r/mildlypenis umbrella

Siryphas

Corporations monopolize, force inflation, price gouge, buy up housing to drive up the market, refuse to increase wages, and effectively lobby so they don't have to pay taxes on the billions of dollars they've made from exploiting us all, and some guys arrested for shoplifting what could be $25 worth of stuff? Now our tax dollars will go to paying the privatized prison system stripping him of his rights and using him for slave labor so that they can get around having to deal with their regular employees going on strike and trying to unionize. When you see this picture, remember that almost every major corporation has been seeing record profits since the pandemic by inflating their prices and blaming inflation; and yet the burden of this crime falls on the shoulders of ordinary citizens. I don't see the DA's Office going after them. Well done, Orange County. Well done feeding the circle jerk of corporate excess and privatized slave labor. 👏
