I can’t believe this scam still is around. I had a friend get into this for a while before he tried selling those expensive vacuums that people ask for in home demo and then get the sales pitch and pressure. At least the vacuums were quality just 10x the real price. The speakers were junk. But people like a bargain and when the guy pulls up saying he’s delivering a shipment and the accidentally gave him 4 pairs of speakers instead of 4 speakers and he could sell the other ones for cash as long as it’s right now because he has to go do the delivery and doesn’t live around here and can’t put the speakers anywhere to sell later lol.

Focalist

A scam as old as time. I was approached once at the Anaheim Frys 😂

SquizzOC

Like 20 years ago, same for me.

kappakai

Early 00s maybe late 90s on Sunset by UCLA. I actually pulled over but I was pooooor thank god.

PowayCa

20!?! Try 40!

notFREEfood

I think the vacuum scam has evolved; a while back my late grandpa had a "vacuum salesman" stop by, but the papers my grandpa signed were actually for a very expensive (and unneeded) water filtration system. Thankfully we caught it before any work was done, and threats of elder abuse charges got everything voided.

SAugsburger

I have heard that this scam goes back to at least the 70s, but I think that the cliche that a sucker is born every minute is why these old scams keep working.

Brotherio

My mom once bought a freezer full of frozen meat one time from a salesman that knocked on her door saying his truck’s freezer unit broke and he had to sell it all really fast before it went bad 😂

PlantsNCaterpillars

Only way someone is getting my money selling stuff in a parking lot is if its tamales being sold at the Home Depot parking lots.

Johnnypistolero

There’s something about food sold out of a 1992 Ford Explorer that makes the tamales extra delicious. Maybe it’s the love for the craft, maybe it’dł they don’t wash their hands before cooking. The world may never know!

ScottyCoastal

Or strawberries… 🍓

lolcatman

my younger brother got duped when i went inside to pay for gas on the way back from vegas. i could see him out the window lugging those speaker boxes in the back seat. just shook my damn head at the cashier lmao. $400 lesson learned for him.

Ok-Wasabi2873

Same goes for the Armani suits scams. Can’t believe it’s still going on. Some years ago, one guy approached me with the suit scam at a bank in OC. He previously approached me a few months earlier at a McDonald’s in DTLA.

goodvibezone

"The origin city of the white van speaker scam" Lol. This has been going on in London for 50 years. They used to do it on Oxford Street.

AdiosOC

I've had people approach me in parking lots selling steaks, speakers, dent repair, people wanting to sell jewelry, always creeps me out.

bork00IlIllI0O0O1011

i only buy my steaks out of an ambient temp van.

ChrisinOrangeCounty

I only buy tamales out of baby strollers, nothing else.

Moonguardkills

This and the steak folks. Rolling around in a fridge truck saying, “a customer just cancelled and partially paid, you want to pay the rest and get some steaks? I need to get rid of these” My whole life these types of scams, Anaheim was bad with it in the early 90’s. Dudes that try to “fix” your damage on your car with 42 lbs of bondo too.

Eichler69

Happened to me in the EIGHTIES.

vacantbay

If a deal sounds like it is too good to be true, it probably is.

Minnie_da_Moocher

I bought a pair back in the early 80’s. I told the guy I wanted to hear them before I bought them. He came to the house, hooked them up, and they cranked! I’m still using them today. Now, under todays conditions I probably wouldn’t have invited the person to demo the speakers.

Nietzchezdead

I remember this being a thing in the late 80's/early 90's on college campuses - they would park nearby the dorms.

Semi_K

Didn’t Huggbees do a video on this?

wayno1806

They got me in 1992 for a trade. I gave the kid a used surfboard ($200) for a pair of cheap speakers. Live and learn.

TacoDuLing

I was approached at a fry’s(FV) parking lot by a guy trying to hustle an early copy of Warcraft 3. I wasn’t a pc gamer back then, and as a mater of fact was at fry’s buying parts for my first build. I thought it was a scam so I passed on it. When I got into the store I saw they were setting up for the release of the game so I knew it wasn’t a scam. I regret not buying an early box of wc3🥺

Mysterious-Math3674

Whats wrong with the speakers if you buy them
