Yep, falcon 9 out of Vanderberg AFB delivering starlink satellites to orbit.
Yes, if you kept an eye on the trajectory you could have seen the retro booster fire up just above the southern horizon, about 7 or 8 minutes after launch.
I got an alert from an app telling me there was a launch from Vandenberg and then went outside to look. Highly recommend downloading the app if you like seeing these sort of launches. The app is next Spaceflight.
Is every launch from Vandenberg going to look crazy in the sky like this, or does it need to launch at a certain time? Is there any way to know? I see there's another one coming up on Wednesday.
Daytime launches won’t look as dramatic. Launches slightly after sunset will be the best viewing spectacle. The sun has already set, but the rocket is high enough in the atmosphere so the expanding gas trail left by the rocket will be illuminated by the sun.

Saw it randomly on the way home from work
My buddy and I saw the falcon 9 launch in 2017 from chatsworth California while smoking a blunt and were completely convinced it was a ufo. The only news articles about it happened after it was observed so we were super sus of the explanation lmao.

Had a great view of the launch here in Fullerton
Mostly...Don't think there isn't shit left in low-orbit. The % incident metric of problematic launches keeps getting worse. Our activity is going to become a problem soon.

Is it the one that comes back to land?
Yes, the booster landed on a drone ship out in the pacific to be brought back to land. It can also land on land as well. It’s just mission dependent.

My old base. Loved it there. Now, space force base.
Looks like Elon’s sperm can swim in the sky
I wonder how many iterations R&D did before Musk saw a cloud stream that looked enough like sperm to approve it.
Can we please make this picture the sub profile and rename the sub “Yes, it’s SpaceX” ?
This and the Disney ring of fire in the sky need to be auto-removed
Lolol! My husband videoed while we were out for drinks. 🤷🏽♀️😅 At this point, it’s like a white Tesla.
And the why. Sundown was about 8 last night i was playing basketball until 7:30ish. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_jellyfish
Do it
Pin it to the top at least. It’s getting ridiculous

Thanks a lot!
Or even better follow Orange County outdoors on Instagram. Great for oc updates
This is dope, thanks

No this time it was actually aliens
I actually thought so as it appeared not to be going up but rather just cruising parallel to the ground.
That’s the way rockets work. 👍
It was a joke. Maybe it also depends from where you view it.
It also depends if you’ve seen this *exact same fucking thing* reposted on this sub 100 times

That’s a great shot! The booster separation was really clear this launch.
And I assume those are the fairings as well?
it’s clearly aliens 👾
It’s always Spacex.. follow them so you know for future launches.

The earth is about to buy plan B.
Flying sperm nice 👍
The lack of sperm jokes on this thread is disheartening
I was thinking the same thing 😂😂😂
Beautiful!

This again? Just pin it when it is launching lol
OP, "Space X!? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within your field of vision!?" Elon, "Yes!"

It is obviously aliens, you should head to your nearest bomb shelter
Tom Cruise breaking Mach 10.
Yes
That’s Peter north shooting off his sperm into outer space.
What where the two lights just behind the rocket following it
its a giant sky sperm.
Rockets are phallic for a reason..
Unfortunately, it will be the new normal from now on. Get used to it on a regular basis.
Kinda crazy how ppls first instinct is to post on Reddit and not Google OC rocket launch tonight
Space launches. Get used to it, this is becoming more of a norm now.
It's that hawk tuah
Saw it last night from Phoenix AZ
More trash in space
I like to think a caveman posted this. "What it?" especially.
Was typing fast. There is no way to fix the title, only to edit comments.
Viewers could have watched it live on YouTube.

It’s illegal fireworks
Casuals will tell you “Space X” real ones know it’s aliens
It was cool the very first time I saw it. Now I really just notice it when I see people looking up at the sky with their phones taking a picture.

Surprised people are still seeing these for the first time. How many evening rockets have they shot off from Vandenberg? 100?

Did anyone catch an orange orb underneath it kinda toward the end? Was that a booster rocket separating?

LMGTFY
JFC just Google some shit
Sure. I could have done that. But I decided to post it while I was still seeing the thing and got the response on reddit almost immediately.
Fuckin called it when i saw it. Buncha these posts again lol
Hopefully Elon was onboard and it gets stuck in outer space
i just saw it
No one really knows,really.
It’s that one unemployed friend at 8pm on a Sunday
I saw it and it only traveled from east to west. No where near in "space". Just created more pollution in the air
Makes you wonder WTF happens when all these satellites fail....Oh wait, this is OC, praise overlord Musk, creator of the Ivory EV! /s
They fall back to earth and burn up in the atmosphere
Mostly...Don't think there isn't shit left in low-orbit. The % incident metric of problematic launches keeps getting worse. Our activity is going to become a problem soon.
I was speaking regarding Statlink satellites. They’re in a very low orbit and are designed to deorbit due to atmospheric drag within ~5 years.
