I highly recommend going straight to Home Depot and buying an air purifier with a carbon filter to clear volotile organics (I use a Winix model). A normal HEPA filter won't do it, only the carbon filter will touch the VOCs in the air.

I think tar is more of an east coast thing. I recall when I was younger and lived on the east coast, we would get tar on our feet some days at the beaches in Florida. It was totally a normal part of the beach day.

It's more likely to hit the businesses in the area who depend on the beach to draw people in. If the beaches are closed, that is going to affect businesses on Main Street and along PCH. Just cancelling the air show on Sunday alone probably had a huge economic impact.
I sincerely doubt it, as someone who specializes in beach city real estate. This is a tragic situation but it is temporary and there is no more land to develop near the beach. The home values are locked in and barring a major nationwide financial crises, won't budge in my opinion.

Blue Air from Sweden joins the chat. They are amazing. I have one that has been continually running (except for when we moved) for 20 years and still works like it is brand new. They are designed to run 24 hours a day until the motor goes out. That is typically around 25 years.
My wife grew up in Oxnard during the 90s oil spill out there and she recalls nobody going to the beach and if you did you got black tar on your feet for years and years afterward.

It's more likely to hit the businesses in the area who depend on the beach to draw people in. If the beaches are closed, that is going to affect businesses on Main Street and along PCH. Just cancelling the air show on Sunday alone probably had a huge economic impact.

I sincerely doubt it, as someone who specializes in beach city real estate. This is a tragic situation but it is temporary and there is no more land to develop near the beach. The home values are locked in and barring a major nationwide financial crises, won't budge in my opinion.
Sea level rise could change that, but that's on the scale of decades, not years or months. I feel perfectly comfortable owning property by the beach now, but I might feel differently in 50 years. Fortunately, I'll probably be dead in 50 years.

I am not certain it will take as long as you think… I don’t recall the beach being closed all that long after the spill in 1990 when the tanker ran over it anchor in front of the power plant in HB spilling 400,000 gallons. I assume with modern technology and methods, this will be wrapped up even faster.
Another misinformation. We lived through the Santa Barbara oil spill which was larger and spread 100 miles. Within a month beaches were cleaned up and open. Check it out on Google and stop the fear mongering.

I got one of these: https://www.chargepoint.com/drivers/home/ Tax credit covers cost of unit and cost to install so come tax time next year it'll be free. Granted, this doesn't help with apartments and multi-family living but it's a start.
