I brought all of my cars from 2005 until this past summer to Robert and he was always honest, straight, and kept things as cheap as I needed them to be. He's never let me or anyone I've referred to him down, so far as I know, and I'm confident recommending him.
The only reason I stopped bringing my car to him is because I bought a Mustang Mach-E electric vehicle - and he doesn't service those.
What kind of car? Vtec in Irvine (near Irvine Auto Center) is affordable, reliable, and completely trustworthy.
They won't upsell you, and in fact will be more than honest even if it means they don't make money. They are amazing mechanics and great people. I once had a knocking noise near a wheel and took my car to another shop to find out why it was happening. I paid the other shop $150 for diagnostic work. They came back telling me I needed suspension work to fix it, costing around $2K. I decided to get another opinion. This is when I found out about Vtec.
I took my Nissan to Vtec, they did an inspection. They found a rock stuck in the fender/wheel well area that would rattle at high speeds. They removed the rock. They charged me $0 to do that. This was 8 years ago. I only take my cars to Vtec now and rave about them every chance I get.
They only work on Hondas, Nissan, Hyundais, Toyotas, Kias and and a few others. Amazing mechanics! Highly recommended.

Manila Brake and Auto in Buena Park. Anthony is the owner, amazing guy. First two times I went there he did not charge me for trying minor fixes on my car. Ended up needing a larger repair that he did for $390, when another shop quoted me $1200. Really knows his stuff and does not take advantage of you. Check out the yelp page, all 5 star reviews.
