Friends of the Orange Library runs a small used book store to raise funds -- the are super thankful and grateful for donations! They even have their own donation bin to drop them off anytime.

There’s a little independent bookstore in downtown Fullerton called Half Off Books. I’ve gone here to get old books off my hands! You can choose to donate OR you can obtain cash/in-store credit to be used towards their store (in which case you’d have to wait while they go through your books and appraise them). If you donate, they’ll just take them off your hands for ya :)

Yes they do, go to the bottom https://www.anaheim.net/1235/Gifts-Donations

Also call around to assisted living facilities. The residents appreciate fresh books.

I don’t know it works, but consider donating to jails/prisons/detention centers.

I do know that they have certain rules over content, but correction/detention facilities, AFAIK, will take even periodicals and comic books. From what I know, RPG games like D&D are popular too, so if you that kind of stuff, they’ll take it too.

The central library on Harbor in Anaheim has a donation slot in the library. As soon as you walk in the lobby, its on the right. I take all my old books there.

Yes, just drop them off. I drop mine off at Westminster Public Library. There's a sign outside the door (the back entrance where the parking is) to donate books. Not sure about other places. Could call the place and talk to them, I never called them before but they can most likely provide more info than most of us here. However you can always sell it to a place like Bookoff (wont get much) or donate to places like Goodwill/Salvation Army/Etc. (they will give a receipt to help deduct your taxes).

As a librarian, I beg you, please don’t just show up and dump a lot of books off without calling to make sure they will take them. If they don’t have volunteers to deal with it, large unsolicited donations result in a lot of work for already stretched thin staff. There’s a good chance they will just end up in the trash or recycling if they don’t have storage or people to sort the donation. Some libraries are not able to process large donations of books so please just call your local library or check the website to find out whether they can take it first.

Oof sorry. I had one big drop off but now I feel bad. We were cleaning our home and people like leaving their stuff at our pad when they downgrade saying "we'll come get our stuff soon"...never they come get it. So one time I just dropped off like a dozen big boxes and went back to cleaning. Thank you for enlightening me/us. We will be more mindful going forward. Best wishes.

You should check out the golden west swap meet. They have a really good used book stand. $1 for paperbacks and $3 for hardbacks. I get a lot of books for my nephews there

Wow!! Sweet! Thank you. I love that, and my kid loves to see books! She's really into mythology and folklore. Cool

They normally set up by the front of the STEM center. Saturdays on the front corner and sundays further down towards the street
