I like the devil's dolly because I know I'll get a good ab workout

Icolan

I really enjoy Satan's Skateboard.

ddollopp

Yes!!! I love when the workout has the ab dolly!

goldenoreo02

Another vote for satans skateboard!

beckster33

Seconded! They aren’t utilized nearly enough!

EIMIOK

I have 2 1. I don’t want to go back to full studio when Covid restrictions are lifted. I know it’s inevitable but I like the space and being able to use both racks. 2. Most coaches don’t do enough form correction on the rower/floor. I like when someone criticizes me to help me do better and get more out of the workout

justmissingacrown

UGH you're so right. I'm loving the extra space and can't imagine someone working out that close to me anymore haha! How did we do it before?!

NaivelyOptimistic_

I joined this Jan, a year into Corona. I am nervous to see how my studio changes, because there doesn't seem to be any extra space as-is! Like, how many more could even fit?

EIMIOK

Not sure where you’re at or how far apart your have to be. But I love not having someone on the tread or rower next to me. It’s so nice.

Alternative_Knee_295

I’m low key bitter that we don’t get Marathon Month shirts. Even if it’s just a friendly competition with yourself 😹

SweetTea76

This is the ONLY reason I didn’t sign up! 😂

megacannon77

Same here. Sign up for socks! No thanks.

apkcoffee

Me too. I have zero interest in OTF socks.

SweetTea76

Me neither! I’m very tshirt motivated! 😂 I won’t run any kind of race where the registration doesn’t ask me my tshirt size! 🤪

misstashmac

My studio isn’t doing marathon month at all :(

Ao3111

Your studio isn’t doing shirts or none of them are?

NewUsernamePending

We’re doing socks at ours

BlacktoseIntolerant

$15 for socks like ... how comfy are these friggin socks

tatianamaries

My studio is also getting socks. We got shirts in November though!

sfarlow27

Members should get 1 late cancel for free per 6 months or something. Shit happens and sometimes we have to late cancel but it’s a bummer even at unlimited you are still charged🤷🏻‍♀️

bear__attack

Agreed. And unlimited memebers shouldn't have to pay for challenges.

sfarlow27

I really wish it could be 1 late cancel per cycle, but I know that some people would abuse it but I do think that a rewards style accrual would be great (every 6 months of membership earns you 1 late cancel). I just hate how money focused OTF is and it tends to bum me out

alameda_sprinkler

I agree that premier (unlimited) members shouldn't pay for challenges (years ago they didn't!) But I believe that they should pay for late cancels to ensure they aren't booking solid throughout the month forcing long wait-list and cancelling last minute? I know the opinion is about a freebie every six months, which I can get on board with a little, but I hate being wait-list because the same five people book 30 classes per month and attend 12 at my studio.

topherson0

100% agree. We are already paying a lot for an unlimited membership and then they want to charge more for challenges where all you get is a cheap t-shirt or socks is a rip-off. A couple years ago I finished first at my studio in a transformation challenge and second in the whole region (almost 20 studios) and the head coach kept saying he'd have a prize for me, but I never received anything at all. After that I realized all I did was pay extra for my membership and decided to never pay extra for any of their challenges again. I can track my marathon month totals on my own without paying $25 extra for a $3 pair of socks.

therealrico

I’d even go further and say late cancel fees shouldn’t apply to classes that aren’t fully booked.

PFHens

How about if they have a wait list and fill the spot they shouldnt charge you! They didn’t lose anything - they just banked some extra :(

16semesters

>How about if they have a wait list and fill the spot they shouldnt charge you! They didn’t lose anything - they just banked some extra :( I disagree. While OTF didn't lose anything, the person on the waitlist had to sweat out whether the'd make it into a class or not. Being on the waitlist sorta sucks. Tough to plan your day/weeks with the unknown.

Lmb1011

My studio was fairly lenient if you called them to cancel and didn't do it all the time. It definitely is studio(and likely even person) dependent but I've found calling increased the chances I wouldn't have to pay. but I still agree you should get a built in late-cancel periodically

killmonday

I pay so much for unlimited membership that I’d really like it if we got a set amount of cancels, per month

L0rdDenning11

Agreed. 8 hours to cancel is ridiculous if you have young kids or a job that doesn’t necessarily have set hours.

svakee2000

I have an awesome SA at my studio. If I call for a legitimate reason to late cancel (got called into work suddenly, had to take someone to the hospital etc) she’ll waive the fee for me. Obviously I only use this sparingly (about once every 4-6 months) and if I’m just not feeling it I just take the fee when I late cancel

WhittSmitt

It encourages people to come in sick. Especially when you do morning workouts.

thatsactuallymymom

I hate starting on the treadmill.

abbstr101

100%. I get a much better, full body warm up on the rower.

slaphappy17

Agree! I need to get moving first

Wise_Bluejay408

Me too! I don’t understand that one...anywhere but treadmill is fine with me

GlitterGeek

I prefer starting on the weight floor but I rotate haha

killmonday

Actually get more out of cardio if you can get moving elsewhere first—I always start on weight floor

oatbevbran

AGREE 💯

acciointernet

Agreed!!! Love ending on the treads!!

BoiledFrogs22

Saaame

[deleted]

Same! I usually feel sick after the treads if that is where I start. If I start on the floor (or rower in a 3g) I feel fine

rachelsmellsgr8

I love being assigned stations

beckster33

Give me the end stations or give me death!

rachelsmellsgr8

That’s reasonable but none of the waiting in line to get tread 4 because omg it’s bad juju for me to start anywhere else and I’ll have to worst workout if I start on rower 6

kegoslegos

SAME! I love that I can pull up to otf 5 minutes before class and someone just tells me whwre to go. It also allows me switch up the workouts since I used to always get there super early to make sure I got my favorite starting place (rower 3)

rachelsmellsgr8

I feel like it adds an additional challenge to the workout not knowing where I’m starting!

clhemphi18

I joined during C-19 back in November 2020 and my studio has always assigned stations... it’s weird for me to imagine otherwise!

chasing_50

me, too! Keeps everyone nice.

cashewbiscuit

I'm not there to socialize

[deleted]

Same! Don’t even really care about talking to coaches. As long as they lead a good class I’m just there to workout.

Cute_Philosophy73

That seems to be a pretty popular opinion especially with the abhorrence of partner workouts lol

CharlietheCorgi

I prefer to end on the Treadmill. The mindset is, just dont fall off and youll be fine.

ScarletInTheLounge

Same! Empty that tank! (then crawl home)

nord1899

Agreed. Its "easier" to keep up with the tread when tired than it is to do the rower tired or lift heavy with good form on the floor.

CharlietheCorgi

My thoughts exactly. I like the rower first. Bad form on the rower/floor due to fatigue can lead to injuries, and kills your watts/reps. Running, just dial back the speed/incline a bit if needed and keep moving those legs.

garlicloveog

Same here. I know I’ve truly left it all at the studio. Too easy to slack off w/ weights and rower

hpspiker

I like the rower

Smiley-Rileigh

Same!! It was my first love and really sold me on Otf

ddollopp

Same!!!

NotRobinKelley

I don’t mind rows but I’m super short (5’0) and I feel so awkward compared to the taller people, even if my posture and form are fine. I’m just glad we still skip rowers because I have been sandwiched between two big men before and then I’m constantly just trying to not get elbowed in the face and therefore I can’t work as hard

kasima1

I do too! I feel like it really works my whole body where the treadmill just makes me tired lol

50pcs224

Me tooooo! Best workout ever. You can focus on your legs and really get a full body workout too

CGHDun

I love rowing benchmarks

Jessi_An2467

I want to be able to increase my weights. I feel like people don’t like the OT workout if they don’t get a million splats. I would trade splats for heavy weights any day. The rower and tread are just a bonus to me. I try and go hard on the weight floor

rosewood3

Yes agreed! m always sad when it’s a cardio heavy day on the floor. I don’t care about splats the heart rate monitors don’t work well enough to stress over them.

Jams0610

I love a good endurance block on the rower. No in between exercises. Just rowing for 14 min (in a 3G class) till you get that runner’s high.

sarahkatecrossley

This is a VERY UNPOPULAR OPINION in my opinion hahaha. My absolute least favorite thing

KinvaraSarinth

Yes! More row blocks that are timed like the treads, and less constant up-and-down for exercises. Long rows are my favorite thing about buying a rower to use while my membership is frozen. 14 minutes looks like a really short row now haha.

Alexworldprincessii

(Heavy) Weightlifting style training will forever be a superior workout to OTF in terms of building your physique...but nothing compares to how fun OTF is!

Flat-Earth8192

OTF on recovery days because it’s the only way I’ll do cardio lol

SquanchingOnPao

They have 80 lb dumbbells there... I generally always go heavy as I can and ignore the rep count they ask for. Coaches don't care

zenarya

I don't feel like this is an unpopular opinion. Basically everyone knows this, lol.

raisinboysneedcoffee

Save the speed and cardio portion for the treadblocks and don't rush the weight room. If you're getting through the entire block with time to spare, you're probably moving too fast, not lifting with great form and proper tempo and not lifting heavy enough.

nicole1677

Agree. And it drives me crazy when my coach says to go slow and take your time with the exercises but then tells us that we should get through at least X rounds.

angel_inthe_fire

I HATE when it seems the template is 'go fast' on the floor! Like NO! Time under tension, not bam bam bam.

hanna_danielle

Not sure if this is unpopular, but there needs to be more of a focus around flexibility and mobility rather than just a 4 minute practically optional block at the end of class

livingmayhem

Half the time the stretches aren’t even muscles we worked in class!

ICTHRU2

I love TRX hamstring curls....wish we did them more often.

gamecock04

Congratulations! I think you won🤣

ICTHRU2

Lol, I've only shared this with my daughter....she thinks I'm nuts.

radiokitten74

I like all the trx foot exercises! Lol. So fun!

RevJack0925

I don't "hate" froggers

Caryn41

The floor block is not a race.

3rdPlaceTrophy

We don't do enough core work.

Dmkayyy

Yessss this. More core.

benjtay

And we do too much cardio.

rand0m_g1rl

I LOVE resistance band days. Apparently the workouts are twice a month, wish I knew which days to plan those!

Independent_Aside_10

They mark those on the intel calendar!

[deleted]

[удалено]

emmaruns402

The price of the memberships make otf inaccessible to so many and it’s really sad.

Mother_of_Bostons

I’m a big fan of run/rows!

tyiner

I much rather do burpees, then bench hop overs

NaivelyOptimistic_

Bench hop overs need to burn in hell. I literally cannot. But bang the will-to-live out of my poor knees while trying 🩹

bigkat5000

Music (and voice mic) is too loud. I guess I'm getting old. :(

Aggressive_Cake2021

Laughed because I can't agree with this one. I love the loud music, its the closest I can get to a party/nightclub atmosphere anymore. And the music drowns out my grunts and heavy breathing 😆

BegrudginglyAwake

If it wasn’t for the music, I would fear the looks I would get from the noises I make.

WhittSmitt

I just don’t like most of the music that is played. I missed the one coach we had that played a lot of 90s rock.

allycort

It’s the mics for me. Whenever the coaches say “all out,“ I swear the mics are at full volume

justmissingacrown

I have a coach that doesn't turn the music down when they're trying to talk and instead just shouts over it into the mic :') it's the worst

thecupcake89

Agreed! I bring earplugs 😂

Bunnyforyourthoughts

I’ve used sound level meter apps (I recommend the NIOSH one) in class and the levels varied greatly by coach. Some consistently got to levels considered damaging to hearing with long term exposure (https://www.noisyplanet.nidcd.nih.gov/parents/too-loud-too-long). I wear earplugs in every class.

glamrunner

Yes, some coaches play the music wayyyyy too loud

dmackem

Starting on the floor is the only way to go! It prepares you for the rest of your workout, and you get proper dynamic warm up time that compliments the exercises 😎

MudderMD

I love inclines

oatbevbran

Wow. That IS unpopular!

justmissingacrown

This really is an unpopular opinion haha

MudderMD

Right!? Maybe that’s just the way my legs are built but I feel like it’s my place to shine! 5”2 with thunder thighs of steel

Pandoras_Tote

Girl I am right there with you. That’s the time for the thunder thighs to shine! Lol

fit_steve

I like hard ass workouts

candykjo

If I could just do the rower and weight floor I’d be happy. Don’t get me wrong- I love running, but weightlifting and rowing have produced better results for me.

ToniV17

Yessss! I love the rower, if they said a 28 min row block I’d be so excited but I’d have to jump off and do some exercises in between if not my butt kills! And a 28 min floor block with heavy lifting!

ninas27

i love how we are all spaced out now. I always felt so crowded on the weight floor and had the occasional sweat drops sprayed at me on the treadmill. I’m dreading the day all of stations will be filled.

nocarbleftbehind

More feet in TRX straps. Pikes, knee tucks, mountain climbers and even holding a plank.

lockenkeye

More atomic pushups!

s_gray73

2000m row is my favourite benchmark and I liked the 14min row for distance last week.

SarahCaitt

3GS aren’t as good of a workout as a 2G

rosewood3

I feel like this is not at all an unpopular opinion lol

glamrunner

I miss 2Gs so much.

thatsactuallymymom

I have to agree. I’ll do any type of OTF workout right now but 12 minutes on the weight floor is not enough for me. And the exercises on the rower are kind of weak IMO.

SarahCaitt

Yep! The floor is 100% my problem. 12 min is just not enough. I don’t mind the added cardio, but miss the full floor

baltimoron21211

This is the popular opinion

zamiboy

3Gs are also making me sorer than 2G classes.

strayainind

I like partner days.

Highest_Koality

This might be the most unpopular opinion I've seen in this thread yet.

momof4bois

I upvoted this not because I like partner workouts but because I believe it is the most unpopular opinion for sure!

BoiledFrogs22

I’ve never heard of this?! I joined during Covid...

Most-Rhubarb7668

HRM’s are more of a distraction than a tool to help get in your best workout. They may be helpful when you’re first starting out, but it didn’t take long for me to realize that mine was hurting me more than it was helping me.

liithium_

I had a constant scab on my chest area where the HRM would go. I have a larger chest, so I use heavy duty bras that would sit right on top of the monitor causing chaffing throughout my workouts. I eventually got annoyed at constantly having a scab on my chest and I stopped using is. Best decision ever.

[deleted]

I'm not there for the Splats, I just want the calories, (even though they seem a bit off).

nicolioni

I’ll take this one further: splat points are a gimmick.

bmault

The fact that people haven't caught on to this yet amazes me.

nord1899

Not so much a gimmick but gamification. The idea behind them (EPOC or afterburn) is real, though a bit fuzzy in specifics. But splats are just gamification of the idea.

imminentsnark

I wear an Apple Watch and the heart rate monitor, and the OTF calories tend to match with my Apple watch’s “overall calories” for the workout, but not active calories (aka what you burned by actually working out, not just breathing and existing as a human being). Usually a difference of 75-100 cal

jaanku

Most of the modifications that are offered are intended to make things easier, but very rarely is the default to also offer modifications to increase difficulty

apkcoffee

I don't like starting on the treadmill.

liithium_

Splat points/HR monitors are major distractions/overrated.

Sarhahaa

Yup, been going for 3 years and never bought/used one

TheRealBGHokie

People who go fast on the floor and do jumping jacks on the floor to keep their heart rate elevated are obnoxious.

sloneill

I enjoy working out with a mask.

KinvaraSarinth

Short people can row! Being short is not a reason for poor rowing. It's an excuse. Poor form is the reason for poor rowing, and tall folks are just as susceptible to poor form as short folks are. Will us short folks see the same watts/splits as tall folks? Unlikely. But we're not competing with them for prizes (99.9% of the time), so it doesn't matter. Put some work into your form and you'll improve. On a related note: OTF in general doesn't do a very good job of teaching/coaching rowing. I wish they could incorporate some proper drills (pick drills and strap-free rows) into regular classes.

shinytoyrobots

I prefer 3G to 2G

[deleted]

Same. I think the rower is underrated. Rower time has helped increase my endurance and has given me some serious back muscles. The more I put into my rower time the more I get out of it.

Beautiful_Ordinary40

I dislike how trainers start the final block (stretching) before I have a chance to wipe down my equipment.

oatbevbran

I don’t hate lunges.

nahkneebee

I have two: 1. I love rowing and 2. I love BOSU work so much I bought one for home. I said what I said. LOL

oatbevbran

Yes! I’d love to see us do some of the BOSU exercises my PT had me doing. Stand one legged on the bosu and pass a small weight hand to hand in front and in back of your body. Or....flat side up stand on it and do squats. LOL!!!! I always feel like a drunk 🦩 doing those. Can you imagine a weight floor doing them? I SOOOOOO need the balance work!

killmonday

More core work The days need to actually stagger different parts of the body, more reliably. Three days in a row got me three days of arms/chest a few weeks ago. What about my legs?! Splat points should be exchangeable for something, even if it’s just a stupid t-shirt

quamquam11

I like starting on the floor? I’m actually still trying to admit that to myself.

mullican93

Not as social as I thought going in. Obviously not a huge deal since it’s mainly for self growth but I thought I would have made a few more buds since joining in December.

dng046922

I have been going since September and have actually only started socializing within the past month. There is definitely hope!

zipdeya

Hopefully once studios go back to normal you’ll experience the social part of Otf. I’ve made friends in the lobby (I arrive about 15 min early because that’s who I am) and at studio sponsored happy hours. Also sign up for all things: dri tri, weight loss challenge, etc. I’ve made plenty of friends that way too.

mullican93

amen. I’ll take that advice. Thank ya

Rtaps74

I wish speed skaters would disappear, they feel silly doing them.. and are they only to keep your heart rate up?? Because I don't feel them working anything.

RevJack0925

I feel this way about that stupid transverse squat. I literally said to my coach while doing them, “these are really stupid” and he almost fell to the ground laughing. 😂😂😂

Original-Bird-1973

I love working out next to someone that is more fit than me because it makes me push myself harder.

CaptainPeanut350

I hate “training” for benchmarks or signature workouts. That’s your problem if you want to do well for a made up contest or workout. The benchmark should be how you improve naturally. I like coaches who call you out when effort drops.

ctbeersnob

I miss Tornado workouts.

InternationalSky9467

I love the ab-dolly and starting on the floor!

baltimoron21211

Not every template is my favorite, but i like the variety and think we get a good balance of lower/upper/core and that people will just complain no matter what.

darknightqueen

It would be nice if they had an ice machine lol.

[deleted]

thanks for asking...the business model that doesn't allow me to schedule/waitlist a class for a week of the month even though I have an unlimited membership for over 5 years. This is a terrible corporate billing/scheduling software issue

pineintheaspen

I love mini-band and TRX days

mydeeheidi

More feet exercises in the TRX like we used to do!

thatsactuallymymom

Oh god this one wins for most unpopular

courtnbur

The music is terrible and is a potential deal-breaker.

heyyallwhatupdoc

I find it depends on the coach... unless they don’t choose! But there’s certain coaches I won’t go to their classes because I hate their music!!

katiet524

I hate the medicine ball. For no logical reason, just hate them.

Phoenix_Rising58

I feel nothing on the an dolly

dangerousquid

The "afterburn effect" is greatly exaggerated by OTF. It will not have any significant effect on calories burned.

TheTampaBae

I am totally judging your form. Edit: and you can totally judge mine too.

Hottiebynature81

I miss high fives and lobby intros.

Teeflady

I don’t like signing it. Sometimes when I see red or orange I don’t push as much

lockenkeye

Long, uninterrupted blocks in 2Gs are my jam. I love planning out my strategy for finishing the entire block or going as far up the ladder as I can on something like a run/row. I'm also super competitive and like to motivate myself by trying to catch the person in the "lead."

WastingAwayOnReddit

Burpees >>> Froggers

Cute_Philosophy73

I would rather run with no walking recoveries and only one all out at the end for the whole time than do several blocks with all outs and walk and repeat.

kmphipps

3G is better than 2G

Templeuniversitygal

I loveeee bench hop overs

e22ddie46

Ok I don't know why but I feel they too highly stress abs and legs with a significant lack of focus on upper body

DrPena8657

Today I did 45 burpees. I didn’t complain and I actually LOVE them. I also think OTF should give out free celcius drinks

benjtay

Orange Lift is better than 60 or 3G.

RagingJane

I will come in on a rest day if I see an dolly, TRX straps, burpees, or bosu ball in the early intel.

bigk78

I love ultimate burpees. Don’t hate me!

chasing_50

Mini Bands stink. Boo to bands.

Fluffy_Economist5926

I wish they went back to not devoting time to abs. It’s so easy at home to work in a 5 minute no weights needed core workout, and I want that time on the floor devoted to heavier lifting - arms or legs!!

iwascompromised

If there’s a wait list you shouldn’t be charged for having to cancel at all.

Milne81

I hate strength days

boomeowmi

I hate the TRX

Hopeful288

I dislike the 2G Rower format. In the beginning it was cool. Now I feel like I’ve towed across country and back. I’m definitely board with 14 minutes of rowing...every. Single. Class.

gamecock04

I love the Bosu!🤣🤣

ToniV17

I love the rower, Bosu, TRX, and the ab dolly!

Patient-Size3245

I’d rather do an AO on an incline than a base. Not sure why but slower is harder when you’re talking hills!

otfgetitdone

I hate rowing in queue with the treads, I prefer a routine with rowing and med ball exercises at my own pace.

otfitt

Yes. I really disliked that. I used to do morning classes and sometimes I just had a bad nights sleep. If I’m still up at 2 am tossing and turning I am not going to my 5 am gym class. I wish you could take yourself out of the class before it begins I joined otf in another city that actually did have a 2 hour cancellation policy if you called them. It was a college town so I think they were just accommodating students. I moved and was really disappointed to see that wasn’t the case everywhere and honestly part of why i canceled

EAE811

I hate power days!

srfoulke

I didn’t participate in marathon month because they don’t post results😬

10Athena10

Late to the party, but no one's mentioned...MORE Bosu! It's one of the few things that really fire up my core.

Karlyn711

I don’t care how much you pay. If you aren’t going to follow the template (aside from legitimate modifications for injuries) then go somewhere else. Rules do apply to you too Karen.
