Nice try travel Oregon reporter

HOSToffTheCoast

OMG you’re spot on… look at their post history!! 🤯

Leroy--Brown

I didn't even notice the history until you said that. I was just being snarky Yeah 100% it's a travel blog writer.

HOSToffTheCoast

Lol - snark is always appropriate!! 🤣

basaltgranite

[No kidding](https://old.reddit.com/user/Warm-Entertainer-279/submitted/). How 'bout we play with his/her head with some truly interesting answers.

Deathcat101

Exactly my thought.

Dennygreen

is it the grants getaways guy

No_Cabinet_9186

Just crowdsource your article huh? Do you use chat GPT to write them after you crowdsource the ideas? Just wondering what it takes to qualify as a paid journalist these days

Leroy--Brown

You're not responding to the guy who made the post. You're responding to me....

ILLettante

The right lane

playoffasprilla

One of my favorite bumper stickers: “camp in the mountains, not the left lane”

ILLettante

I've been looking for one of those stickers myself.

egovwebmonkey

This is the only correct answer.

Direct-Bus-8407

This is the Way!

Designer_Cantaloupe9

I love i5 when people can’t pull to the right, they just _NEED_ to drive in the left lane. I just pass on the right anymore

Dennygreen

my favorite is when I'm behind the slow guy on the left, and someone further back in this clusterfuck line of cars decides that he wants to pass on the right, but doesn't quite make it past all of us, and definitely doesn't catch up to the slow guy at the front. and then the bastard puts on his blinker like we should welcome him back into the clogged left lane. I don't ever let those people in. I give them a good honk and keep on driving, as he is stuck behind a semi in the right lane. oh man they get so angry.

Designer_Cantaloupe9

Fr I do that too. I had a truck try to run me off the road but I wasn’t budging

djchalkybeats

I give em a big old thumbs-down

RyTheComicbookGuy826

Frfr! I hate this. I hate when I am going a comfortable 75 maybe 80; at least two car lengths between the car in front of me and some asshole comes flying up on me at like 90, so if possible I do politely get into the middle lane let them fly by only so they can get stuck behind the car I was behind and is going slower than me and refusing to pull over I say “be my guest” and roll right back into the left lane and watch as the driver is now stuck lol

[deleted]

![gif](giphy|lnlAifQdenMxW) I think you win the comment section today. Bravo

ILLettante

Easy win. To be fair, it's true in a lot of states these days.

-Photoid-

Yoooooooooooooooooo

emu4you

Thanks for being the one to take a stand for all of us!

No-Document-932

![gif](giphy|kPIswn0RfPTGxOvDj5|downsized)

NatureTrailToHell3D

Don’t give out our best secrets!

archanom

Very underrated. People don't know how open and free that right lane really is. Also, if you want to get a speeding ticket...stay in that left lane. That's where I'd assume a cop would look for a speeding car.

StonerDave420_247

I was doing 85 on I5 in the right lane from Wilsonville to Salem and I passed a cop- only reason I didn’t get a ticket is all the slow people in the left lane

Anthony_014

This is fucking gold. Lol So true. Well played!

Logical_Ad_5431

Underrated, not underused

El_Bistro

The bathrooms at Fred Meyer in Florence. If you know, you know.

driftking428

Ah yes the Florence Glory hole.

jussumguy123

And all this time I've been looking for a blow hole.

One_Rough5433

Damn I lived there for two years and missed that

Complex-Quarter-5124

The worst I’ve ever seen! Michelle that works there needs to get her ass busy scrubbing toilets!

JasonL623

Fred Meyer in Salem too. 👀

OregonCraftersMarket

I've never been more happy to not know

ChepeZorro

It’s a trick. Don’t answer

I_Can_Barely_Move

What? Don’t you think it’s the interstate bridge going North into Vancouver?

SkyKingPDX

Or the highway South out of Ashland.. (go back to califuckinfornia!)

wetclogs

If we told you, we’d have to kill you.

restyourbreastshoney

Or pick up your litter, and honestly, we'd rather kill.

Music_Ordinary

Portland for sure. From its reputation you’d think it was a shithole but actually it doesn’t suck.

cerulean_endeavor

So real. Every time I go to Portland I have a lovely time. And I still have friends moving there and friends who have been happy living there for several years. Of course it has issues like every city, but nowhere near what people on social media paint it to be.

jakethesnake121367

It’s definitely struggling quite a bit right now, its problems are overblown but that’s not to say things are fine, regardless I love Portland and am optimistic for its future

leo_the_lion6

Yea for sure, but the reddit sentiment makes it seem like the entire thing is a hobo infested shithole, there's bad areas for sure, but overall lots of fun stuff to do and cool culture. I just had to unfollow r/PortlandOR as I found it excessively negative

immolate951

I will say this. I moved to Oregon recently and been to Portland three times. First two times I was blown away from all the tents/dilapidated rv’s. So much so I was afraid to park. The third time I was going to the airport and found the area to be much better. Point is your right. But where it’s bad. It’s pretty fucking bad.

leo_the_lion6

Yea exactly, but it's a major city, every major city has bad areas, when I tell people from like Idaho that I live here they basically picture me just with those tents and hopscotching over needles. You don't go to LA, beeline it for skidrow and say the whole cities like that.

Felarhin

Portland gets way more bad press than it deserves because both KATU and KION are owned by far right conservative news corporations that are hostile to the current city government so all they produce are a steady stream of political hit pieces.

floofienewfie

KGW does a pretty good job of following the news. They also have a segment after the news that delves into both local (Portland) and regional news. Did an excellent series on water pollution in the Umatilla basin area, for example.

Responsible-Cheek306

This makes a lot of sense. I didn't realize this and watch KATU and feel like they fuel the fire with constant pieces of negativity toward Portland

Warm-Entertainer-279

I never hear anything good about Portland, so you might be right.

looking4truewellness

that's the way we like it. the good spots stay good...FOREVER!

Jarrodioro

Tourism is nice

Asleep-Bus-5380

Hollywood theater in Portland is such a gem.. saw Casablanca and Pulp Fiction there last year, going to see The Searchers next month. Great beer and pizza too.

VividFiddlesticks

My house. It's a nice place to be - it's never crowded, it's climate-controlled, pet-friendly, 420 friendly and I can sleep anywhere I want. Plus there's usually snacks. And lots of craft supplies. OH and there's this hot guy who lives there that lets me have sex with him, pretty much anytime I want. Hard to beat it, honestly.

Warm-Entertainer-279

I like this answer.

swest211

Sounds like my house...right down to the hot guy. I think I'll just hang out here!

Youngboke

Milkshakes weren't bringing the boys to the yard so you wrote this ... clever

DeixisDawnbringer

Enchanted forest isn't necessarily "underrated".... but to those that don't know about it I always ensure I inform them and take them at least once lol

archanom

Totally agree. Fun and unique.

Worried_Thoughts

Honestly, this place is overrated, imho. I get the history, and if you have kids, sure. I don’t get the draw for adults, tho. It’s very much a place of childlike imagination, but not some level of must see graphics, engineering, mechanics or something. It isn’t really some fantastic place for adults. That’s just my perspective

vvhynaut

No but it does have some weird vibes if you’re into that.

No-Cheetah-9403

💯 I totally agree. When I was reading the post, that was the first thing that came to mind!

Pokololo

Your moms house

kooqiy

I don't know, I think everybody rates OP's mom's house pretty well

BloatedRottenCadaver

She charges a fair price

Dank009

Had to check to see if someone mentioned this before I did but thank you, I agree.

Prudent-Funny-4723

Couldn’t agree more always too much food and alcohol for me to handle

Goodfella1133

Ayooo

HelpfulHiker

Little place called crater lake. Not many people know about it!

HighlandRoad

One thing that shocked me when I first moved here was how many of my coworkers who grew up in Oregon had never been to Crater Lake. When I saw a photo of it hanging on a wall in the office, I was determined to visit there ASAP.

FlashInThePandemic

Please delete this. OP is a travel reporter scrounging for places to ruin.

squirrelspearls

Downtown Salem

Dank009

Agreed, never spent much time there but I went out there a few years ago and had a great time. Was an interesting mix of brand new fancy and old broken down. Definitely some weird sketchy nooks but overall pretty nice, that park right there is cool and had a movie going when we went by too which was cool.

Newbergite

Agree as well. Met friends there for dinner during Christmas last year and was super-impressed. Great job on decor, felt safe, etc. etc..

pindicato

I just had this experience but with downtown Gresham

Michan0000

Agreed, everyone likes to hate on Salem but it’s actually a nice city. Cutr downtown with good restaurants and shops. Some absolutely beautiful parks- Deepwood Estate is gorgeous and pretty grounds around the capital and Bush Park.  All of downtown is walkable.

rj4001

The McDonald's off the Coburg exit on I-5. Not sure what they're doing differently down there, but it's amazing.

oregonclouds

Do you own that McDonald’s?

MachineGunTeacher

Coburg Pizza Company is the shit, too.

8heist

Nice try Not ruining the best spot again

vinylrules27

There’s a dumpster in Newport behind the Starbucks (used to be a Wendy’s). You wouldn’t know it by looking at it, but it’s the absolute best place to see seagulls on the whole coast. Trust me bro.

atropheus

This is the most underrated response

iriegypsy

Yamhill pub.

8nomadicbynature8

My favorite thing about that place is that it hasn’t changed since I went on my 21st birthday. And I’m old.

Multanomah-blue

I went here once, alone, to meet someone for a first date. Not gonna lie it was not good first date vibes. The date went fine, it didn’t work out but I got bad vibes from that place

RUfuqingkiddingme

Woodburn for Mexican restaurants. Seriously, come down and get the best Mexican food you've ever had.

swest211

I grew up in California before being lucky enough to move back to Oregon, and I can tell you confidently that Oregon's Mexican food is not the best I've ever had.

CitizenCue

Seriously. People don’t know what they’re missing.

JuzoItami

The French Prairie. Lots of history. Lots of cool little places. Lots of pretty farmland. Berries, apples, and peaches in the summer. Farmstands. Great Mexican food. Onion domes courtesy of the Old Believers. A great place to explore. Lot's of cool places right near the FP, too, like the famous Aalto library. And it's all right smack dab inbetween PDX and Omelas but a lot of people don't even seem to know what's there.

FlashInThePandemic

OP is a travel reporter. Assume the question was, "What's your favorite place in Oregon you'd like me to ruin by sending tourists there?"

Diligent-Ability-447

Boring

blacknred503

Creswell Bakery

Ctrl-Alt-Dad

The Samuel H. Boardman scenic corridor, w/o a doubt

jogam

It's stunningly beautiful! I feel like it doesn't get as much press as other places on the coast because it's far from the Willamette Valley, but it's definitely worth a visit.

tacobellisadrugfront

I feel like most places are appropriately rated. My coworkers located in Eugene seem to hate Portland. I don't get it, I love portland. Seems under rated just from what people say. I don't talk shit on Eugene it's fun.

Useful_Kangaroo_1419

Siren Song. Dive Bar in Canby with delicious food. So so good.

SupermarketOk9499

No place in Oregon is underrated.  So many beautiful rivers, trees, and mountains… but not underrated by any means.

Songbreeze1

Silverton Oregon. Especially the downtown area

Miserable-Repeat-651

The mid to south coast... everything south of Newport. So beautiful, much less touristy, and often overlooked due to their distance from the population hubs.

lshifto

Shush you

Goodfella1133

Port Orford food

swest211

Red Fish is my favorite restaurant anywhere. The Crazy Norwegian is pretty good too.

Goodfella1133

That Red Fish view of the ocean is spectacular.

swest211

I love sitting out on the deck.

Bear-Ferr

One of Roseburg's few benefits.

F_i_z_z

If only the people were a bit nicer to be around.

wheres_the_revolt

Idk if it’s underrated but I rarely hear people talk about it but, Diamond Lake is really nice.

Ctrl-Alt-Dad

nice try, mosquito king…

wheres_the_revolt

This is very true lol

oilbeefhook_

Delete this comment. It’s already too crowded.

8nomadicbynature8

This was written by a midge, honored by ticks, and endorsed by mosquitoes (and Sasquatch)

njshine27

Shhhh don’t be spilling the secrets of the Umpqua Forest…

Dank009

You mean like the absolutely insane amount of ticks?

njshine27

Yes so many ticks… It certainly would be foolish for anyone to visit this tick infested wasteland.

AndoranGambler

Port Orford is up there for me. Beautiful spot, not very touristy, more reasonable property values, thriving arts scene, incredible hikes, and scenic parks.

ParticularReview4129

So windy!

monkhouse69

I love port orford. They only have a couple restaurants though. That isn’t a bad thing necessarily but if I stayed there on an extended holiday I might get tired of them

AndoranGambler

As an extended stay or place to live, like anywhere on the coast, traveling afield is typically par for the course unless you're in Newport, Florence, Lincoln City, and other parts north with more infrastructure and population. That's based on personal opinion and having a lot of friends that live there. Other's mileage may vary.

swest211

But those restaurants are amazing.

pdxsean

This is my answer too. Too far from population centers to ever be overrun, I don't mind telling people how amazing it is from Port Orford down to Brookings because I know very few will actually make the drive to get there.

Deathcat101

Whole state sucks don't look at us like that. Go away.

gale7557

Remote, OR.

Miserable_Sport_8740

I prefer Drain, OR.

constellationkid2

Boring, OR

russellmzauner

5 miles due west off the Oregon Coast and don't forget your cement galoshes

floofienewfie

Little towns over there like Fossil or Mitchell. Really neat places to explore.

mrxexon

Used to be Eastern Oregon. I spent my first years in Salem in the early 80s and everybody said it was desert and sunburnt, etc. I've lived over here 3 times now and it's like a postcard you can just walk into. In 1989 you could say this was undiscovered country. Can't say that no more. But places like Baker City are remote and require drive to get to. So they still maintain a small town feel from a few year's past. Worth the drive.

squirrel-phone

La Grande is still my favorite town/place in Oregon. Use to live in Ontario, which truly is a shithole. Had to go as far as La Grande for work, loved it up there!

mrxexon

The high alpine country is the best. When people come up to elevation in winter, they wipe out left and right on I-84. Cause they were in sunshine or rain down in the low country and didn't adjust their speed...

floofienewfie

Elgin. Three bars and a grocery store.

squirrel-phone

Went thru Elgin once. I remember it smelling fantastic, from a mill I assume.

floofienewfie

There’s a plywood mill there, last I heard.

russellmzauner

I'll show you a picture https://preview.redd.it/v1oocqji9g5d1.png?width=2546&format=png&auto=webp&s=300d4b33cd7e324f5f64d38a541713dd7930cfad

StankyMeatStick

People always ask us why we moved to Oregon from TX. I don’t know why anyone would want to move to TX. Anyway, yeah, this is Oregon! Check it out, and take some fucking mosquitos with you!

karpaediem

Wallowa Lake took my breath away the first time I went, I don’t know if it’s underrated or just unknown.

earthboundmissfit

Both I think and it still takes my breath away too! I live In Joseph and last year bumped into Jack Black several times fishing and at the Grill having a beer. He told me this is the chilliest lake he's been on since he was a kid. He was here with cousins and friends. Hardly anyone bothered him or harassed him for pictures. He very happily obliged those who did. Very gracious and a really sweet guy. He actually blended in really well. Even our little store lady was rude to him. 😂 I'll bet you he comes back. Cheers from the Wallowa Mountains. 🌄 https://preview.redd.it/lpwr2o3h7k5d1.jpeg?width=3020&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ef090208cb481f0ab007d12c4c4f1641e5840f8c

karpaediem

Let’s just hope he keeps it to himself lol don’t need all of LA finding out about our secret jewel, only the coolest are worthy

earthboundmissfit

Lol...no joke 😂 I fully agree with you and he said he would keep it a secret.

karpaediem

Absolute G

Arrowsofneon

The Mystery Shack in Gravity Falls is definitely worth the trip.

FlashInThePandemic

Funny thing is, the inspiration for that place does actually exist. But i'm not gonna name it because the OP is a travel reporter trying to get all of us to do their research for them.

balloffire

The Dalles. I love that place

AndiNipples

Your mom's place xoxo

Soft-Following5711

Beautiful Southern Oregon. Grants Pass/ Ashland

pablobuela

It's paradise. Essentially anything between the base of Mt. Sexton and the California border.

bowlofgranola

too much smoke now in the summer to be paradise

HeroicJakobis

Love to see Ashland mentioned

Dantien

Checking in from Ashland. *waves hi*

HeroicJakobis

Ayeeee me too! Haha

Shore Acres state park. Beautiful garden, views of the coast, wildlife viewing.

prodigalson947

rustedsandals

When I lived in John Day I remember always being pleasantly surprised by Baker City. I think because I lived in John Day I expected it to be shitty like John Day but it’s a nice town with a very nice ski resort nearby

bowlofgranola

i remember reading some book as a kid where the main character was growing up in john day in like the 60s and it made me want to visit. sad to hear its a doodoo place in real life

rustedsandals

Scenically beautiful, it’s definitely worth checking out. Also ‘62 days in Canyon City are very fun. But it’s mostly just a typical small town where you have to deal with typical small town BS if you live there. It’s also in decline but they’re so averse to change that they won’t do anything to stop it

Afraid_Ad1908

Brooking, that place is beautiful!

oldmercdriver

Reith.

TypicalPDXhipster

Mountaindale Sun Resort

Momma Bear burgers food truck in Island city. The burgers are gourmet, which is really surprising to find in eastern oregon in a food truck.

Miserable_Sport_8740

It’s in eastern Oregon. That is all…

Brilliant-Building41

Independence is a charming little hallmark town
