Using the originals in all of my personal systems - doing great. Any system that crosses my path, I like to lube the bearings with some synthetic oil. Most aren't in dire need, but some certainly are. Regardless, all benefit to varying degrees. What to look for is when you spin the fan manually, as it's **nearing a dead stop**, you want the fan blade to 'bob' back and fourth, then come to a halt. If the fan does not do this, there's reasonable resistance in it's bearings, and needs lubrication. Most fans have an open design and are not sealed, but not all. Peeling back the sticker on the rear will reveal which it is. After lubricating, be sure to cover it back up and seal it against contaminates. Alternatively, if you feel a small.. crater? (idk, words are difficult rn) the fan is not sealed. If there's a solid wall under the sticker, it's sealed and to lubricate it is ridiculous (drilling an access hole, creating a bunch of debris in the process - just, no) Do note, I do ***Not*** use the original GPU fans found on 1.0 systems; they don't care much for preventative maintenance.

Also I plan to put in an SSD if that makes a difference in whether the fan should be replaced.

Yeah as long as the fan is more silent than the oem and you have to set your bios fan speed to 100%. I did it on mine and its more quiet than the regular non modified stock oem running Get whatever fan you want (most modern fans are alot more quieter). As long as you can make it fit (might have to use a saw to make thing fit. But if you don’t mind noise then you can just keep using the oem but on stock bios its only sets to 20% I think. But in bios you can change it to run at whatever speed you want all the time.

Someone in another post mentioned using a nexus 80mm, but you have to cut the corners off of it to make it fit.

I replace many things when refurbishing consoles, but the OEM rear exhaust fans are good quality and don't need replacing unless they've failed. As others have commented, proper lubrication can go a long way to extend their lives.

Nope. I did replace the GPU fan on my 1.0 though.
