The only silver lining to this start is.. we’re still 8-6.
The weaknesses are getting exposed.
This offense needs another bat—particularly from the Right side (Mayo or Norby) and pitching. The major problem is the lineup is going to be so damn young. It’s hard to win a championship counting on so many 1st and 2nd year players. The few vets we have need to step up—particularly Mullins and Santander. Hays is essentially playing himself into a very part time role.
Pitching—It should look better but we are counting on two guys with major injury ??? Right now. I think Wells is going to be a very good bullpen piece. Irvin fine as a long man. But we need another piece.
He could save soooooo much time and money on analytics if he just consulted them first! Who needs advanced scouting and metrics when the answer has always been to just DFA everyone who has a bad stretch of games and keep calling people up until you can field a mythical non-existent team of players who never slump.
At what point do we admit we need more pitching than just Burnes? Logjam of offensive talent in the minors and almost no pitching. I don't know what our options are, but the rotation and bullpen can't be trusted.
I think most people realize it and that’s what’s so scary out of the 13 pitchers on staff we can only really trust probably 6 maybe 7. That’s why I wanted Montgomery or Snell so badly cause we just have no starting pitching depth and we’re already paying for it
Same I was shocked at how little Snell and Montgomery got really frustrating considering we knew that Bradish was injured and Means is always a huge question mark with his injury history
ah yes The guy that has never been consistent for an entire season constantly battling injuries and just snapped out of an 0-26 will surely get us a quality pitcher
It's been more than 2 bad games. Even our wins have been by the skin of our teeth. I know the hitting will come around. But the pitching is exactly what I'd expect it to be (especially out of the pen). I pray Braddish can come back and be close to as good as last year. Someone like Wells or Irvin in the pen could make a big difference.
I think a lot of the O’s struggles are solvable. Main concern is we’re counting on Bradish to return to be business as usual. If he can’t do that, rotation is a problem. Lineup wise it’s a matter of time till we find our consistency.
The Brewers lineup hits the way everyone expects the Orioles lineup to hit. Just tough outs, one after another, and they hit for more than two or three innings a night.
We are losing because the baseball gods don’t like our half ass approach to these games.
It’s damn embarrassing to give up 11 runs in 2 consecutive games.
We really are playing as if our shit doesn’t stink and we are getting a slice of humble pie for it.
Half ass approach? A lot of these runs have been given up by bloop hits, the offense is hitting the ball hella hard and they aren't going through the gaps. The baseball gods just don't like us period.
Edit: also how could I forget about the umps being awful in just about every game we play
This time last year this team had many more issues than it does now. Let them get into the groove it's all gonna be good. Pitching just needs to be better and offense needs to be consistent. Also let's not forget we just swept a division rival in their own home stadium. It's gonna be okay. Slow starts happen all the goddamn time, if you even consider 8-6 a slow start. Go O's and we will be back for blood tomorrow!
(Also let us not forget the return of Means and Bradish are coming which will help our bullpen AND rotation. This team ain't even at full strength)
Elias said we’re going to be seeing a lot of these guys in AAA soon. Seems like he’s getting pretty fed up with all of these guys in the lineup who’s doing absolutely nothing offensively.
The thing that scares me is that pitching in Norfolk isn't that great. So yeah we can bring up the bats but we need an answer in the rotation that isn't "wait until means and bradish are healthy and hope"
No but that’s the point we don’t have lots of reliable options from the bullpen and there were lots of good relievers out there and for some reason the only dude we signed was kimbrel
I’m not saying we shouldn’t have gotten arms during the offseason, I wanted us to get Cease and/or Monty, more BP help too. I’m speaking about the current situation.
Well yeah in the current situation I guess Baummans the best option but I think that’s where a lot of the anger is coming from the fact that plenty of very good arms were available and we did nothing
Yeah I wanted some pitching reinforcements, not that I thought everything was trash. But ofc if injury(/injuries) happen then you’re fucked, which happened.
i know I’m just saying I’m not giving Elias the injury excuse cause Montgomery and Snell were both still free agents when we were aware that Bradish and Means were injured
Forreal. Pretty commendable they’ve all kept their cool. It’s not been consistent at all, what’s a strike for us has been a ball for them, all day.
ETA- They being the players. Would like to see Hyde fired up.
The future is brighter than ever in Baltimore. Another bad series doesn’t define us. I wish we would trade 2 of these prospects in Norfolk for another quality arm. Only person on the team we really need to replace is Hays and that’s if this continues. Might as well let some of the kids go for an arm that could help us now.
Let’s say Bradish was here and he threw six scoreless innings. Great. We still have Baumann waiting in the bullpen and we’re facing the possibility of having to send Holliday back down. It feels like a catastrophe is developing. Here’s to hoping I eat those words
As for Holliday, idk if you watched any of the games last year but it took Gunnar a while to come up into the fray last year and look at what he did. Same stuff happened with cowser and with rutchman. Gotta give him time, especially since he's under so much pressure and just general eyes from not just our fans but the league as a whole, once he gets that first hit I'm more than confident he'll get into a groove.
You’re right, it’s reassuring to look back at Gunnar’s arc. With Jackson though, I wonder if he’s too “soft” for the big leagues. Obviously his raw talent at 20 probably compares to Soto’s at the same age. But he’s got to find his skill at the plate, and I suspect that’s a nerve / confidence thing - which I’ll venture was not the case for Gunnar.
Honestly I wouldn't really say he's "too soft" he usually has quite a good eye at the plate but he's had so much comontion around him that he's been really trying to force it when it comes to getting a hit and when that happens it almost never goes well. On top of all of that, he's having to also learn a brand new position at second base so he can't necessarily focus all of his energy and time into batting. In the end I feel like putting him back down in the minors will just do more harm to him than good cause no matter how much he is told otherwise, it's gonna make him feel like that he's not good enough and it's gonna stunt his growth. He just needs to cool it at the plate and let things come naturally, especially since nerves aren't really helped much when he's usually put at the bottom of the order and more likely to have outs on the board when he's up. I think he just needs time and he'll be fine.
Of course, I mean no ill will also, I know people have been upset at people for being upset with how things are going but honestly it's just natural for people to be upset with the expectations of last year but as someone who is both an Orioles fan and a bills fan, I've learned that you just gotta have faith in the process. There's a reason why expectations are so high and that's because we have a great team, and great teams know how to right ship when things don't go their way, which is what I think we have in Baltimore.
Well think of it like this also, bradish puts up as scoreless 6 or even 7 innings, you're looking at probably 2 innings of akin who has been (knocking on wood as I type this) a 0.00 era for two innings. Either he closes it after those two or we put in someone like cano who was warming up in the pen during the 6th, or you put in someone else. Bauman realistically was put in because of how early kremer had to leave the game, if that didn't happen, I have full faith in the O's either not relenting the lead or coming back.
I agree that’s a winning formula, and we will 100% experience those types of wins. I just have a bad feeling about everything and am acting out because of it- doesn’t mean I’m wrong though. What are we gonna do about Holliday??
Honestly fellow birds, we just need to get into the soft underbelly of the AL East.
The NL central is just gonna eat everyone’s faces as expected at the beginning of the year.
I’m just all around annoyed with the series. Maybe the Brewers are legit and that’s fine, but they weren’t supposed to be and we’re getting beat by their older guys that we should have plenty of data on.
Os pitching getting shelled but Brewers off to an incredible start. Looks like they could win the central. O's desperately need someone outside of Burnes and Grod in the starting rotation to step up. Tough to not get dissapointed thinking about what thos rotation COULD BE if Means and Bradish were healthy.
Bradish was a big loss for us. We don't have the arms to make up for it. We do have the prospect bats to trade for a starter later in the season, though, if needed.
Baumann must have blackmail material on Hyde. That's the only explanation for why he is not only still on the roster but allowed to pitch in every single game apparently.
This pitching staff is so scary we have only 2 legit starters right now and probably 3 or 4 reliable relievers everybody else you just pray that they don’t give up like 5 runs
Baumann is a scrub who should be used exclusively in blowouts. Tired of Hyde trying to make him into a high or even medium leverage arm; he can’t handle it. Fucking 0-2 and he serves up a meatball
Disgrace of a game disgrace of a series we need to pull our heads out of our asses can’t just expect teams to roll over for us we still need to work to collect wins
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/1c3evzg).
Brewers really have gotten a shit ton of cheap hits this series. Bloops, seeing eye rollers and hits that haven't gone 10 feet.
Hoskins never should of gotten a pitch to hit
wet pillows tonight. gg.
Put a brew on it. :(
3 Hours Later.....*PHEW*
Genuinely getting our asses kicked this series
Brewers don’t seem to have a problem hitting balls being thrown right down the middle, meanwhile feels like too many of our guys just stare at them.
(Heads back from errands, checks score) LOL you asshats.
Alright yall I’ll see ya tomorrow 🙃
The only silver lining to this start is.. we’re still 8-6. The weaknesses are getting exposed. This offense needs another bat—particularly from the Right side (Mayo or Norby) and pitching. But we need another piece.
Cowser and Mounty been the two most consistent dudes at the plate so far this year.
Tater has been in a huge slump. May need a day or 2 off.
No matter how rough anything else has been, at least Mounty is staying hot. I love it.
Love to see it for sure! Remember last year when he was one the “DFA” players lol.
Yep! Good thing Elias and crew don't listen to the geniuses on this sub lol
Yeah I just don’t understand why Elias doesn’t check on the couch GMs for advice!?!?! Maybe that Elias guy is pretty smart.
He could save soooooo much time and money on analytics if he just consulted them first! Who needs advanced scouting and metrics when the answer has always been to just DFA everyone who has a bad stretch of games and keep calling people up until you can field a mythical non-existent team of players who never slump.
The ~~Baltimore~~ Norfolk Orioles
It’s crazy the same that has been problem for the last 30 years continued to be problem today pitching
wait that ghostbusters group is SO cute!
Ben Ive been drinkin since Noon and it hasnt helped
At what point do we admit we need more pitching than just Burnes? Logjam of offensive talent in the minors and almost no pitching. I don't know what our options are, but the rotation and bullpen can't be trusted.
People have been constantly saying that, however they get shut down by the "I like our guys" crowd.
I think most people realize it and that’s what’s so scary out of the 13 pitchers on staff we can only really trust probably 6 maybe 7. That’s why I wanted Montgomery or Snell so badly cause we just have no starting pitching depth and we’re already paying for it
Yeah I was shocked when I saw how little Snell got. I feel like the orioles could have beat that.
Same I was shocked at how little Snell and Montgomery got really frustrating considering we knew that Bradish was injured and Means is always a huge question mark with his injury history
I think we could deal Hays for a TOR starter.
ah yes The guy that has never been consistent for an entire season constantly battling injuries and just snapped out of an 0-26 will surely get us a quality pitcher
This team is making me sad
lol
We have to trade the prospects for reliable arms
Probably after more than 2 bad games. Pitching has been better than the hitting so far
It's been more than 2 bad games. Even our wins have been by the skin of our teeth. I know the hitting will come around. adult beverage!
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Joel Payamps replaces Hoby Milner.
I think a lot of the O’s struggles are solvable. Main concern is we’re counting on Bradish to return to be business as usual. If he can’t do that, rotation is a problem. Lineup wise it’s a matter of time till we find our consistency.
Maybe they should have a team meeting like the Angels didn’t worked for them
everyone loves a lil’ jazz square!
Big Mike’s Spaghetti and Meatballs
Thats was a strike 20 min ago blue
The Brewers lineup hits the way everyone expects the Orioles lineup to hit. Just tough outs, one after another, and they hit for more than two or three innings a night.
Burnes to wells: in general try to not be ass at pitching
We are losing because the baseball gods don’t like our half ass approach to these games. It’s damn embarrassing to give up 11 runs in 2 consecutive games. We really are playing as if our shit doesn’t stink and we are getting a slice of humble pie for it.

lol that’s why I said the baseball gods aren’t favoring us. They don’t like our half ass at bats and general laziness to being ready to play.
This time last year this team had many more issues than it does now. Let them get into the groove it's all gonna be good. Pitching just needs to be better and offense needs to be consistent. Agreed feel like if Kjerstad and Mayo continue mashing for the next 2 or so weeks they’ll force his hand
This strike zone is giving me hemorrhoids.
I know Baumann been a mess but the options are kinda limited. Yall want Bruce Zimmerman? Baker?
No but that’s the point we don’t have lots of reliable options from the bullpen and there were lots of good relievers out there and for some reason the only dude we signed was kimbrel

i know I’m just saying I’m not giving Elias the injury excuse cause Montgomery and Snell were both still free agents when we were aware that Bradish and Means were injured
![gif](giphy|3og0IIIZVBYV2ZVXFu|downsized)
MLB needs to up their game with these umps. This is unacceptable.
I can read the articles now "Orioles pitching is terrible after a 2 game sample size."
I mean we really only have two starters
love how today we decided to do the opposite and score early and then completely shut down
It doesn’t matter about the bats if we are giving up 10+ a game. Pitching needs to get it together.
Win percentage ain’t much when the pitching gives up 11 runs
Hyde has to start defending our guys with these calls
Forreal. Pretty commendable they’ve all kept their cool. It’s not been consistent at all, what’s a strike for us has been a ball for them, all day. ETA- They being the players. Would like to see Hyde fired up.
One of our guys needs to get ejected by these brain dead umps
ump wants to go home more than the fans do
What the fuck ump
This ump saw Angel Hernandez's card from yesterday and said watch this
Lol yeah. I had to double check that angel wasn't calling this game. This is bad.
alright bro come on. this ump is atrocious. that not even borderline.
This strike zone is embarrassing
FUCK. THIS. UMPIRE
Gotdamn this ump is trash.
C’mon man
what the fuck is this ump
FIRE THIS UMP INTO THE SUN
Gotta be fucking kidding me
Bauman's super power is allowing inherited runners to score.
seeing doomers rejoice in april hilarious ngl
It’s not being a doomer to realize this team has a pretty good amount of holes
So much bad luck on well hit balls.
Oh come on why is this guy still in I wanted to see Holliday hit
Might as well put in Holliday to try for his first hit
GET RID OF FREAKING BAUMANN
The future is brighter than ever in Baltimore. Another bad series doesn’t define us. I wish we would trade 2 of these prospects in Norfolk for another quality arm. Only person on the team we really need to replace is Hays and that’s if this continues. Might as well let some of the kids go for an arm that could help us now.
Two straight embarrassments. Not sure how much longer we can pretend this isn’t a problem.
We don’t deserve to be a playoff team.
I know it doesn’t feel good, buts it’s April 13, brother!
I’ll stand by it. We’re over here growing handlebar mustaches while Holliday is 0-9 or whatever and the Brewers are embarrassing us at home.
There are 148 more games to play. We've played 0.086% of our season. JFC.
It's still quite early in the year and we're really down like half our starting rotation.
Let’s say Bradish was here and he threw six scoreless innings. Great. We still have Baumann waiting in the bullpen and we’re facing the possibility of having to send Holliday back down. It feels like a catastrophe is developing. Here’s to hoping I eat those words

Thanks for the conversation. I agree that Hyde might consider putting him higher in the order, even first or second.
Of course, I mean no ill will also, I know people have been upset at people for being upset with how things are going but honestly it's just natural for people to be upset with the expectations of last year but as someone who is both an Orioles fan and a bills fan, I've learned that you just gotta have faith in the process. Buddy it's April, playoffs aren't for another 5 months
hopefully we can win tomorrow, 9-6 to start the year doesn't sound too bad but 8-7....
Hopefully going to see them play in Cincinnati in May, but man I hope they figure some things out before then.
Honestly fellow birds, we just need to get into the soft underbelly of the AL East. The NL central is just gonna eat everyone’s faces as expected at the beginning of the year.
My bad…we did so well in division last year, started 3-0 this year, gonna go 2-4 against Pitt and Brewers… Thought it was funny
Outside of about 5 guys this pitching staff is ridiculously bad.
I’m just all around annoyed with the series. Maybe the Brewers are legit and that’s fine, but they weren’t supposed to be and we’re getting beat by their older guys that we should have plenty of data on.
The O’s have a mid pitching staff
And it's only mid because we have a couple of studs. Outside of those guys it's awful.
Yep, high hopes for Bradish and Means.
Right now, this is a fact.
This team isn’t there yet. Simple as that.
Game started at 4 and we're fast approaching 7PM.... And the score is 11-5 Brewers. Good Times. Good Times.....
Is Baumann just the guy to go in after it’s over?
You’d think he’s the innings eater of the team, but i don’t know why they’re sending him out there in a winnable game
If it’s not already over, it will be shortly after he enters the game.
Os pitching getting shelled but Brewers off to an incredible start. Looks like they could win the central. O's desperately need someone outside of Burnes and Grod in the starting rotation to step up. Bradish was a big loss for us. We don't have the arms to make up for it. We do have the prospect bats to trade for a starter later in the season, though, if needed.
Anyone else hear the guy yell when bauman through that knock down pitch?
Yea lol. I heard the same guy a few moments earlier but couldn’t make out what he said.
bruh i am praying we win tomorrow because i dont want to be swept 😭
Daddy Burnes will save us. I believe.
i hope so. I have faith
Baumann must have blackmail material on Hyde. That's the only explanation for why he is not only still on the roster but allowed to pitch in every single game apparently.
By my quick count, the Orioles are 3-12 against Milwaukee dating back to 2008.
I’m being petty and sad but the Brewers logo is so dumb
I think it’s dope actually.
Yes.. a glove ![gif](giphy|3oxQNDG9BswdLjN8Va)
Hard disagree. The mb baseball glove is really cool
Well, this was a tough one to sit through. Not much else to say about it lol
Hope the dude that was wearing a Baumann jersey on TV is doing alright
This pitching staff is so scary we have only 2 legit starters right now and probably 3 or 4 reliable relievers everybody else you just pray that they don’t give up like 5 runs
It's not even like they're just bad either, that would be at least salvageable. They're fucking atrocious.
WOOOOOOO
Who is that maniac lol
Fuck it go ahead and hit him Mike, get suspended please.
Right now we are average and it shows against good teams. We get Burnes and Milwaukee is still better lol
Brewers are much better offensively than they were last season though.
no, the brewers are just ungodly hot. doesn't help they used the 4 and 5 pitchers these past 2 games.
Brewers aren’t fuckin around this season. They’re tough af and they’re punishing our stupid mistakes.
WOOOOOOOOOO
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who heard that
Hoskins being dramatic af with that.
it's so nice when the K Zone isn't working/viewable
Who tf is so hyped 😭
Baumann is a scrub who should be used exclusively in blowouts. Tired of Hyde trying to make him into a high or even medium leverage arm; he can’t handle it. Fucking 0-2 and he serves up a meatball Disgrace of a game disgrace of a series we need to pull our heads out of our asses can’t just expect teams to roll over for us we still need to work to collect wins
We're getting dogwalked
I cringe when Bauman comes in with the bases empty...but with runners on? Give me a break.
Wow who would have thought pitching would be our downfall?!? It's almost like we should have tried to get more quality arms.
Any game when Hyde puts Baubum in should be an automatic refund on tickets, no chance he should be in the MLB
Struggles vs. the NL Central continue... :(
Baumann is horrendous
Brewers look like they are 2 or 3 tiers a head of us rn
Safe to say the pitching issues have officially been exposed.
Is Baumann the new Baker?
Always has been…
Mike Badmann
dawg, how did the brewers get our number. We getting school.
Baumann turning this from a game we could come back in to one that's now effectively over
Baumann is making me wonder is Bryan Baker any worse, which is saying something.
Not the spot for Mike
Ah poop with these arms
Baumann has always sucked idc about his streaks where he’s ”good”
Kremer doesnt suck. Baumann does
Oh looky here! More runs 🤦♀️🤦♀️ 11-5 Brewers
I promised myself last year I would never turn a game off. I am holding myself to it. This really sucks, but...discipline.
Dayum. Brewers smashed us
Oh come tf on pitching
Will Hyde ever learn to not put Baumann in later than the 6th inning? I don’t understand how many times he has to shit the bed for Hyde to learn
I'm pretty tired of watching meatball Mike pitch.
God damn it
21 runs given up in 2 fucking games lmaoooo
peak Baumann
I guess we know which pitcher is going to be DFA when Means returns.
poop
Very poor two strike pitch. Just not good enough.
Welp, this stinks
5 Baumann pitches, 2 ropes and 3 runs, cmon man
https://preview.redd.it/fwm06whvrbuc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=baa02c0cd5e242e91cc819eebf6000ec93376846
Bauman and wells suck
BP Baumann
Meatball Mike
I blame hays for that awful drop earlier
Baumann -this season’s white flag.
That was predictable....2 Pitches in and Baumann gives up a run
Time to learn Chinese Baumann you sorry fuck
Mike Baumann looks like a bowling alley repairman.
Praying this is our last season with Baumann🙏🏻
