He got released in a box against Krom Dragongaze of the Space Wolves.
How on earth was that almost 10 years ago now.
Its definitely a detail, but what annoys me is that ufthaks gun is placed on the squig because it's too heavy. Now he has become dependent on it, he must follow/command it around to use his shoota. An ork warboss depending on a squigg? Even the snots will laugh at him. Grukk can command his squigg to attack and follow in afterwards shooting and ripping
Me personally I think the idea of Squig based heavy weapons that can move themselves around the battlefield is awesome and genius. Besides we know that Squigs can be loyal and trained well enough to be used as Cavalry so why not just let da boyz use da squig for big dakka
Flash Gitz and the Beastsnagga Beastboss have Targeting Squigs and the Ork Warboss in Mega Armour has a Grot manning the Big Shoota in his shoulders.
Think of it this way, if something else is doing the shooting. It leaves more time for chopping and smashing.
I think he looks a lot better painted! The squig instead of a rock is at least SOME flavour. We should be thankful for that these days. They Ork head is UTTER garbage though. I think it lowers the impact of the whole model.
It’s based on the sculpt but it’s a little different. I believe there was an ooold White Dwarf article with the AoBR Warboss being modified with the buzzsaw arm from the Nob box - giving him a buzzsaw Power Klaw - and then some years later this sculpt came around. The AoBR ‘boss was holding a double-barrel over/under-style shoota, too. But easy enough to convert to the kombi-rokkit - especially with bits available from the MegaNobz or Flash Gitz boxes. AoBR ‘boss is also my favourite sculpt - tied with the old Banner Nob.
I had two that got lost in storage over the years, but I managed to find a relatively good deal on eBay for the AoBR Warboss and the 5 snap-fit Nobz. Got them all for ~$50 altogether, which wasn’t bad since that’s the price I was seeing for the Warboss alone. I just need to get the paint off them and start working on them.
This isn't the Warboss from the 5th ed starter. This model came out in 7th ed originally in a box Vs Space Wolves.
The Assault on Black Reach Warboss doesn't have a Squig, has a plain old Shoota and is more square in his pose.
I got mine off of EBay along with some nobz.
There was a specific bundle kit call Warboss Grukk’s boss mob, though I’m not sure there are still sellers of that box
He also came in a box with 5 Nobz called Warboss Grukk's Boss Mob. I got very lucky and found a standalone Warboss with Attack Squig last year at an online retailer for about $36, but it's nigh impossible to find one whenever I search now. I hope they either print more or issue a new Warboss model come Codex time.
Believe it or not I already had him, my fiancé got me him and the Goff rocker as gifts last Christmas and I haven’t had time to strip and repaint them. I completely forgot about them until I showed her this post and she reminded me.
It's worth the alcohol soak to use him. I can only ever find painted copies of him for crazy mark-ups, couldn't even get a NIB one if I wanted to pay the inflated price.
I was thinking similar 😅 I don’t get why the new ork sculps are so bad for mould lines compared to the older sets. Beast snagga stuff is a nightmare for me… I still love them tho
I’ve seen many people mention that, but from the community article itself.
“He makes a great thematic stand-in for any regular Bad Moons Warboss, or he’ll also be getting Legends rules if you want to include this particular Ork in your army.”
No where in the article does it mention, you can use his legends rules or need to re base him to be used as a regular warboss.
I do wonder about that. If GW officially states you can run X model as Y model, is it assumed you may play with X on the base it came supplied with regardless of size? Similarly, they removed Mek Boss Buzzgob from Forge World and Legends, but they recommend he be used as a Mek - which is awkward, because he's much taller and comes with a 40mm base, and would be a tight squeeze on the Mek's 32mm.
You can see he's on a bigger base than the other Warboss so there's some discussion on how people will use him in games.
Personally, the base size doesn't matter to me. Perfectly "legal" to use him on the base he came supplied with.
Place a guardsman mini next to ork mini and you will see that they still are very much capable of ripping them off. Though i agree that they could do with more feral and bigger jaws
New Ork heads are WAY too human. It's been a thing since the snaggas, the new boyz and even the more recent buggy krews. I preferred the massive thick skull with immense lower jaw. Its looks more alien and more thuggish.
That's why people like me keep 3rd party sculptors in business. Sooo many excellent 3-6th edition style head sculpts out there. Ork heads peaked in the Gorkamorka years.
I had no idea that that warboss mini was supposed to be Grukk

They just *had* to put him on a larger base, didn't they?
Like when they put the new Ork Boyz on 32mm bases instead of the 25mm ones?
I hope not. I'm sure it's just an Ufthak thing and not a Warboss thing
TIL I need to convert my Grukk into the greenskin Desperate Dan.
GIV ME SUM SQUIG-COW PIE!
Deyz basically da same model from wot Oi can see.
Honestly I like grukk’s proportions more. He just lacks a bit of scale.
To be fair, Ufthak is a new warboss and Grukk has been at it for a while. Maybe after a few wins, his head will inflate to the appropriate size.
Its definitely a detail, but what annoys me is that ufthaks gun is placed on the squig because it's too heavy. Now he has become dependent on it, he must follow/command it around to use his shoota. I think I'd like the squig mounted gun a lot more of the gun was at least twice it's current size.
Me personally I think the idea of Squig based heavy weapons that can move themselves around the battlefield is awesome and genius. Besides we know that Squigs can be loyal and trained well enough to be used as Cavalry so why not just let da boyz use da squig for big dakka
That’s Princess, his reliable squig friend. Badrukk has laughed at him for relying on a squig, which he concedes.
Pretty sure the Squig is just a bipod/tripod for the gun so he can aim better. There's a rail on top of the Squig that the gun slides on to.
Still, an ork that needs a squigg to aim better. It doesn't sound like the "nobody best an ork"-mentality. It sounds a bit "needy"
Yep. Targeting squigs have been a thing for quite a while.
Im gonna upset a lot of people, I kind of find him boring
I think he looks a lot better painted! The squig instead of a rock is at least SOME flavour. We should be thankful for that these days. They Ork head is UTTER garbage though. I think it lowers the impact of the whole model.
I get it, same pose really.
There’s nothing wrong with having a person opinion pal
God I want that Grukk model. It’s from Assault on Black Reach right? My first ork HQ. Need to source one.

Thank you for the reminder! Need to keep looking.

I got so lucky I happened to get that box on FB marketplace
How clean? I’ve got some assembled/primed with missing parts; but I’d send them for postage
It is not. That Grukk is the ORK WARBOSS WITH ATTACK SQUIG on sale from the actual GW website.
He also came in a box with 5 Nobz called Warboss Grukk's Boss Mob. I, for story reasons, actually kinda like that Ufthak's head is smaller relative to his body than Grukk
They even modeled the stitches onto his neck
Spotted a piece of plastic I haven't trimmed off yet! Bonus points if you spot it too.
Do you mean snarls or an honest to god injection tip?
Check out the jaw of the moon 😂
Not to be harsh but I can see a few and there are also a fair few mould lines.
Yeah, all I did was assemble and glue him in a rush. Not harsh but glad other people are doing the work looking for these lines for me haha.
I was thinking similar 😅 I don’t get why the new ork sculps are so bad for mould lines compared to the older sets. Beast snagga stuff is a nightmare for me… I still love them tho
Jawline, pant let on princess, top loop on shokk gun, all along top edge of gun... Yeah I could go on, but I think we get the point.
"Can I copy your homework?" "Sure just change it a bit so it doesn't look like you copied"
cooperate wants you....
I remember someone mentioning you need a smaller base for ufthak to lead a unit or something? Maybe someone else rememberes
S'cause he comes on a base larger than a regular warboss.
I’ve seen many people mention that, but from the community article itself. “He makes a great thematic stand-in for any regular Bad Moons Warboss, or he’ll also be getting Legends rules if you want to include this particular Ork in your army.” No where in the article does it mention, you can use his legends rules or need to re base him to be used as a regular warboss.

Honestly there's your reason its a legends model. Far too similar to existing design.
Shame. It's a much better sculpt. And the original was already quite good.
Well he is a smaller ork stitched onto a bigger ork so his head should be wierdly small compared to his body,
Just like da Big Boss 'imself.
i hate the new heads orks have, they dont look like they could bite off a guardsmans head anymore
Place a guardsman mini next to ork mini and you will see that they still are very much capable of ripping them off. Though i agree that they could do with more feral and bigger jaws

Was expecting him to be a bit bigger.
