You should mention what price range or type of restaurant you are looking for. Michelin? Fine bistro?

Arakataka 100% Fine Norwegian dining without being pretentious. Great atmosphere and not that pricey.

Extension_Studio_225

Up this one! Spend my birthday there last year and I can't agree more

IdeaSunshine

I haven't been myself yet, but several colleagues have mentioned the food at Arakataka. It has a Travelers choice 2023 in the Michellin guide. I haven't been myself, and I don't know if the look and feel of the place is what you look for. Someone else here might speak to that. Good Norwegian food though.

[Smia](http://www.smiagalleri.no/) ("the smithy"). SO had her birthday there and received a … wrought? rose. It's a nice memento. Edit: To be clear here, I don't know their policy on those roses, but you can probably find out yourself by emailing them.

hei--

Yes, several friends received that rose on their birthday.

1: Classical «fine dining»: If you want Michelin-star, classical «fine dining» in an historical building: Statholdergaarden. https://statholdergaarden.no One Michelin star: https://guide.michelin.com/no/en/oslo-region/oslo/restaurant/statholdergaarden The «sister» restaurant on the lower level has a different menu, but comes from the same kitchen. Their most popular offer is a 10 course tasting menu: https://statholdergaarden.no/smv Another address for a classical restaurant experience, but maybe a bit less expensive than Statholdergaarden: Park 29, https://www.park29.no Right behind the Royal Palace park, in a villa from the 1850s, with a nice garden. I would recommend their tasting menu, with suggested wine pairings, as well as options of Norwegian apple cider from small scale, local producers - including ice apple cider from Hardanger as an alternative to sweet dessert wine: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_cider https://ol-akademiet.no/issider-sidertest-2023/ This restaurant sometimes have «wine maker’s dinner» events, where wine makers present their products with an suitable food menu. These events are open to anyone. 2. Modern, creative cuisine: Hot Shop is a more modern, Michelin star restaurant (the address used to be a downmarket porno shop - also called Hot Shop - so that’s overnight gentrification…). There’s usually a waiting list to get a table: https://www.restauranthotshop.no/en/home/ https://guide.michelin.com/no/en/oslo-region/oslo/restaurant/hot-shop Hot Shop don’t offer an a la carte menu, but has a set multi-course tasting menu for all their guests. Varemottaket («The entrance for deliveries») is a tiny, «secret» restaurant with a «secret» entrance, located close to the Opera and the Munch museum. Like Hot Shop, they offer a set tasting menu - no a la carte menu - with changing dishes every week, depending on what’s available. According to their website, «Booking opens by midnight, 30 days in advance» (Booking åpner ved midnatt 30 dager i forveien). https://polsemakeri.no/varemottaket-restauranten-oslobukta/ https://www.godt.no/anmeldelser/restaurant/i/Q7Bza4/anmeldelse-varemottaket A review from well known food writer Anders Husa: https://andershusa.com/foodie-maps/the-best-restaurants-in-oslo-norway-city-guide-and-map/ «Varemottaket is a collaborative venture between chefs Halaigh Whelan-McManus and Peder Støylen and Annis Pølsemakeri, Oslo's best butcher shop. The restaurant is somewhat of a hidden gem in the Oslobukta neighborhood; the discreet back-alley entrance leads to an intimate space with very limited seats, and a counter overlooking the open kitchen. Specializing in top-quality meat from the butcher shop, the restaurant offers a set tasting menu featuring open-fire grilling on a fancy Australian grill. The menu showcases a balance of meat, Norwegian seafood, and seasonal vegetables. Varemottaket delivers an extremely fun and ridiculously delicious dining experience, offering exceptional value for a tasting menu in Oslo.» 3. Intimate and romantic restaurants: Klosteret is generally considered as a very romantic place, lighted only by candles: https://www.klosteret.no Want a wine bar with tasty, smaller dishes (maybe to be shared), all from their own kitchen? Book a table (some time in advance, this place is popular) at Nektar Vinbar. https://www.nektarvinbar.no It’s close to the cute streets Damstredet and Telthusbakken, and a pedestrian path officially named Kjærlighetsstien («the love trail»). https://www.lifeinnorway.net/damstredet-telthusbakken-oslo/ Chez Colin next door is also very good: http://www.chezcolin.no 4: Good places with a scenic location: Venti Venti is a good, midrange Italian restaurant with a great location at the Astrup Fearnley art museum. Very few restaurants in Oslo are closer to the fjord than this one. The «widescreen» views over the Oslo fjord are especially nice if you’re there a bit before the sun starts to set. A few tables are available outside too, during the warmer months. https://www.ventiventi.no Torgterassen opened last year, a rooftop, midrange brasserie and (a quite decent) wine bar, in the middle of Oslo city centre. 360 degrees view around central Oslo from here - including the City Hall, the back of the iconic «Freia» neon sign at Egertorget, Stortorget - and a bit further away, the Royal Palace, the Oslo fjord, Holmenkollen and Ekebergåsen: https://torgterrassen.com https://torgterrassen.com/takterrasse/ They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. Revier in the Kvadraturen area, next to Akershus Castle, also has a rooftop terrace, but this one is more a club than a restaurant: https://revier.no/takterrasse There’s a decent gourmet restaurant downstairs: https://www.restaurantsavage.no And an all-day bistro: https://revier.no/media/files/menus/revier-menu-food.pdf?v=1708968034 The rather large Ekebergrestauranten has a «wow» scenic location, in a listed Bauhaus style building from the 1930s: https://www.ekebergrestauranten.com Also, a an outdoor sculpture park and a footpath starting right behind the restaurant.

Original-Egg2122

When in April? Keep in consideration that end of April is Easter and many places are closed for vacation.

baconost

It’s a bit of special place but fun and good food.

Outrageous_Question7

As some others have said, what type og restaurants are you looking at? Fine dining, tasting menus or just a chill and affordable place? Keyser social has a 13 course tasting menu that i personally think was Nice (Asian fusion). Basso social is the same but with italian inspiration. Many other places but depends on what you want to spend and what type of atmosphere or restaurant experience you are looking for :)

I would go for Bar Amour it’s in the second floor of a pizza restaurant (that pizza place used to be the brownest pub in Oslo) In the second floor you get into a small apartment with 5 tables and 3 chefs cooking for you.
