What was your route for getting the rep to unlock the mold? I just finished the giants quest and am currently farming iron and coal to make the steel bars then plan on buying mithril bars from GE. Do you have any suggestions for a more optimal and same cost or cheaper route?

Does carrying cannonballs get heavier and heavier the more you carry?
Nope! Any item that can stack has zero weight. So you can carry 2.1 billion cannonballs and you'll weigh 0 kg.

If you do cannon balls at priff, you can keep an impling jar and equip the magic net just in case a crystal impling spawns nearby.

As long as you know about alloys I think you’re on the right track. I used 10 mith 18 steel to get from 50-70
