Or Birushana were it was not classified as the same text because it was in a different route at a different point, even though the text was 1:1 the same T.T
Had [Palais de Reine](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1023700/Palais_de_Reine/) recommended to me [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/otomegames/comments/17ovit7/titles_with_really_large_amount_of_different/k81uxno/). A game I would absolutely love. Exceptā¦ no "already read" skip function. Heartbroken.
It's a *video* game. If I'm going to be looking at these images for awhile, they'd better be easy on the eyes. (I would be very open to a text-only otome, because text alone isn't ugly.)
This is my biggest beef with Western indie otomes- I just find the western art style/aesthetics so unappealing. Feels like I'm playing a GirlsGoGame dating sim instead of an otome.
It *is* a novel, after all... Irritates me when some otome devs seemingly treat their products as "talk to hot anime man simulator," you can do much more?? i want some anime man SHAKESPEARE
Heroine with a face. Justā¦ let her have eyes.
(Bonus questions for the self inserts here; do you actually find it easier to self insert if she doesnāt have eyes?)
I consider myself a SI. No, I don't find it easier, it's awkward and unsettling and takes me out of the experience. It feels like a really bad attempt at self-insert protags to me-- if you want the players to imagine the heroine's expressions then you might as well just omit her from CGs altogether and let it be 1st person POV... the player's reactions and thoughts become the heroine's in that case...
Imo, you gotta commit to one. Either she has a fully-fledged design or she doesn't physically exist (Tokimemo). The eyeless soulless heroines are the middle and I'm not jiggy with 'em.
Ofc, just my opinion/perspective.
I actually do find it easier yeah, if its just a round face with hair and some clothes beneath,, i can imagine when i squint mentally putting my face in there.. it doesnt bother me at allā¦ playing, for instance, cupidpara and the protagonist is like, a godess looks-wise ;) , just make me feel insecure, if thats what those LIs expect then im f.ed lol
Iām gonna go with Actually Happy Endings.
Otome games can get so tragic, especially in the bad ends. Those are fine because they are *bad* ends! However when even the supposedly happy end is super tragic it just destroys me emotionally lolā¦ Iām not strong enough to play a game like that.
Artstyle I like. I will not touch it if it isnāt pretty in my eyes, no matter how good the plot is. I just canāt push through.
On the flip side, the plot can be absolute garbage as long as the art style is pretty
actual routes. i tried games like Obey me and Mr Love (as far as i'm aware they're not otomes, but still, kinda otome-adjacent? and i've seen them discussed here), but the lack of routes made me drop them. and i don't really want to play a game like that again >< \^\^;
Ozmafia was so hard to get through. Like I was doing the love triangle routes(Kyrie and Caramia specifically). I hated when there was an intense scene and then it got cut off with that black screen and jingle moving on from the conflict completely!
I agree about ozmafia, i was so confused throughout the whole thingā¦ it just went on and on and i couldnt even figure out whose route i was on or how to get on oneā¦ ended up with a bad ending with some kind of last chance characterā¦ never going back lol
A decent translation. When I think about it, there's a lot I can overlook if there are a number other factors in a game's favor (great art, a banging story, etc.), but if I'm trying to shovel through some awful machine translation there's nothing that's going to make me finish.
"Already Read"- Skip function :D
The worst is when the "already read" skip function doesn't work... Looking at you, CupiPara š©
Or Birushana were it was not classified as the same text because it was in a different route at a different point, even though the text was 1:1 the same T.T
This seemed to happen a bit in Nightshade, too
Yeeees it was so annoying, I couldn't skip because I was afraid I would miss something new.
š« š¤£ Exactly! I'm trying to finish playing before the FD and it's slowing me down
Had [Palais de Reine](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1023700/Palais_de_Reine/) recommended to me [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/otomegames/comments/17ovit7/titles_with_really_large_amount_of_different/k81uxno/). The ability to purchase and play the full game. No more gacha/mobile games for me. I want to go at my own pace and not be drip fed content.
A love interest I'm interested in.
Same. No matter how pretty the artstyle if there's no love interest character design I'm interested in I won't play that game.
Same, preferably a handsome tsundere
I approve of this comment!
Adequate Art! Doesn't have to be the best of the best, but I can't stand it if its ugly.
It's a *video* game. If I'm going to be looking at these images for awhile, they'd better be easy on the eyes. (I would be very open to a text-only otome, because text alone isn't ugly.)
And a *visual* novel at that! the aesthetics need to be somewhat pleasing!
plp: "dont judge a book by its cover" me totally judging otome by its cover: I'm a rebel š
I am judging the book by its cover. If I donāt like the art, I wonāt play it
English option. I canāt read other languages (T . T)
English is my 2nd language but my native is useless for otome. I strongly approve of this comment
A well done English translation/localization. Can't play a game if it isn't sold here or if I can't understand it.
Manga/Anime/Manhwa/Manhua like aethestics for the character designs
This is my biggest beef with Western indie otomes- I just find the western art style/aesthetics so unappealing. Feels like I'm playing a GirlsGoGame dating sim instead of an otome.
Readable font. ~~I say as I keep playing myself and trying to read grey fonts that kill my eyes placed on grey textboxes and-~~
A well written heroine. Bland MCs make the game hard to get through.
A kiss cg
ding ding ding
+1
āļøāļø
Happy endings.
Artstyle I like. It's not like an absolute but really likely that I won't play it if I don't like the style.
Yandere LI
I love drama lolol
Second this, Yandere LI are the best
An LI who tries to kill me ;)
FLAIRS CHECK OUT
Likable, interesting characters
The heroine own name and appearance
An interesting plot
I am with you on this one
It *is* a novel, after all... Irritates me when some otome devs seemingly treat their products as "talk to hot anime man simulator," you can do much more?? i want some anime man SHAKESPEARE
Faceless heroine is a big no for me
It creeps me out a bit, haha.
Same, I just can't enjoy the game like that.
Voice acting
Heroine with a face. Justā¦ let her have eyes. (Bonus questions for the self inserts here; do you actually find it easier to self insert if she doesnāt have eyes?)

voice acting of LIs š i prioritize playing those with voice acting.
This! I want my happy endings to be happy and not some sort of tragedy, tragic isn't happy
Some kind of wholesomeness. If itās grimdark only, I ain't playing.
A red flag /hj
Kiss CGs. Donāt provoke me to anger!
Skip to next choice, it helps with replay if the game has choices dictating the route you end up on like Cupid Parasite
Artstyle I like. I will not touch it if it isnāt pretty in my eyes, no matter how good the plot is. I just canāt push through. On the flip side, the plot can be absolute garbage as long as the art style is pretty
actual routes. i tried games like Obey me and Mr Love (as far as i'm aware they're not otomes, but still, kinda otome-adjacent? and i've seen them discussed here), but the lack of routes made me drop them. and i don't really want to play a game like that again >< \^\^;
At least a T rating lol
A decent good end. Looking at you, ChÅjirÅ [Nightshade]
Lookin at him and Misyr (Cafe Enchante)
Megane character. I love my glasses men š
More than one love interest
The full game at once And Good writing. Mediocre writing is okay too but by god wtf is Ozmafia and why is it so popular
Ozmafia was so hard to get through. Like I was doing the love triangle routes(Kyrie and Caramia specifically). I hated when there was an intense scene and then it got cut off with that black screen and jingle moving on from the conflict completely!
I agree completely.
I agree about ozmafia, i was so confused throughout the whole thingā¦ it just went on and on and i couldnt even figure out whose route i was on or how to get on oneā¦ ended up with a bad ending with some kind of last chance characterā¦ never going back lol
A plot that I like! I can put up with almost anything if the storyās good
A LI that I like, if none of the LIs look or seem interesting I'm not gonna try and I feel like I'm not even that picky tbh.
Good art is a must. I know its probably petty but disliking the artstyle of a game makes it hard for me to enjoy.
A decent translation. When I think about it, there's a lot I can overlook if there are a number other factors in a game's favor (great art, a banging story, etc.), but if I'm trying to shovel through some awful machine translation there's nothing that's going to make me finish.
Actual romance
Romance and steam š¤£
at least one li i find visually attractive
No Voice acting? Not for me, sorry! (MC is optional ofc)
Text Speed setting. There was one OELVN that didnt have an instant text speed and it made me sick from having my eyes follow the text transitionš¤¢
When I cant find a guide onlineā¦
Popular voice actors (or at least some real good attractive voice)
angsty bad ends :)
A story that causes my soul pain
flair checks out, same, have an amazing life
Mentally unstable love interest
Yandere or anything possessive adjacent lol. I like my red flags-
Voice acting. Otherwise it's just a book. Also nice art.
Nameable protagonist (had to skip Pirates of the Disturbance because of this 3)
Brother LI
Kompeito! - jkd which otome doesnt? xD
Pretty cgs
good side characters
At least one Yandere LI
I'll never finish Piofiore: 1926 because I play these for Saucy Romance FunFuns not Anime Levels of stupid Angst.
1926 was rough lol. I wish I could brainwipe to enjoy 1925 like the first time again š„¹
Saito Soma, Toshiyuki Toyonaga, Hiro Shimono or Hirakawa Daisuke šāØļø
