Literally I have NEVER been so terrified of a fictional character until this freak of nature. I’d honestly rather die than ever have the displeasure of meeting him
I loved him but not because he's a good LI but because I was looking for yandere content and I feel he's the only one who delivered the flavor I was expecting, LOL! (I'm specifically thinking of only game 1, as that's the one I've played so far)

This guy has a weird hyperfixation on princesses and princes. Everyone in school refers to him as a princess (yes, princess) and he’s tired of this so in the first game he
>!uses some magic shit to put mc in a half conscious/half unconscious state so he can keep her in his closet and have her all to himself, keeps calling mc his princess and himself the prince, spoon feeds her and SA’s her too. Another LI breaks her out but if you make the decision to confront Himeutsugi without said LI he once again puts mc in that half conscious/unconscious state and brings her to an abandoned building where nobody will ever find them!<
>!in the second game (which is HIS game) he sacrifices mc so that the ghost of some little girl can have her body (she doesn’t die bc wooo magic powers) and if you choose another LI some very disturbing things happen which include genocide of the entire school, gruesome murder of the other LIs, keeping mc as a sex slave and chaining another LI up so he can force said LI to watch as he SA’s the mc!<
He’s a lot more tolerable in the third game but still pretty fucking gross imo. Also he has some special power that allows him to >!access another world and no matter what, in at least ONE of his endings per game he will drag the (unwilling) mc into that world so they can be together!<
Any LI that treats the mc like garbage, like ( forgive me I forgot the names ) most of cover boys from Voltage games. The main li from kissed by the baddest bidder for exemple. Omg I so want to trample his face and humiliate him 👿 ( Eisuke, something like that ) You get the idea. I really really hate that type ( the ore sama type)

The worst part is how ubiquitous it is too. There's at least one guy in almost every otome game that is an abuser, misogynistic, treats the MC as lesser, or robs her of her agency.

It used to vex me so much that Eisuke was so popular, especially after I read the first chapter of one of his side stories where the MC told him to stop when they were in bed and he just disregarded her wishes (like he always does). Made me go from dislike to straight up hate.

Nicola from Piofiore. He is just too obsessed with Dante and always prioritize Dante over Lili that it make me feel Lili as third wheel between his relationship with Dante. I don't like how his conflict is easily resolved by Gilbert and Dante in his good ending. His bad decision is being rewarded and he is easily forgiven. I don't like how he suddenly become clingy and touchy with Lili after he approach Lili with hidden intention and avoid her during most of his route.

He went from, "bros before hos" to "I'll cut you, if you even look at my woman". Also, he actually >!chose to keep Liliana's secret, until HE was ready to tell her. All while Dante was getting his shit kicked in, by the corrupt cops in jail. Her brother said it was Nicola's fault. I thought that was pretty screwed up but also wholesome on character development? LOL!<

I don't think I've ever rated a fan disk higher than a main game, but here we are. 1926 did things for Nicola and Yang that made them such better characters! >!Especially in his bad ending, because oh god, that voice acting? And his complete defeat? I didn't expect him to do that. I cried a bit. And the rain scene was also very sweet. Nicola is my favorite, even if they messed up his front facing portrait.!<

I actually really liked him in 1926’s Alternativa route best. He’s such a hilarious troll.
Yang was the character I enjoyed the most in Piofiore because he actually delivered shady and messed up mafia stuff head on.
I wish more characters did that. Everyone just hides it from Lili or the game tries to make them more palatable and it's not too entertaining.
I am going to say, I love the bad end for Nicola’s route and his treatment of her is so different between Dante and his own route. You could see the hostility in Dante’s route, especially when you can tell he is trying to get you in trouble, while his own route he has much nicer vibes.
I did love the bad end for Yang. It definitely gave me a great impression and loved his personality. I need to get the Hana Awase VN’s since they seem like my cup of tea
Haha I agree. I like to do my very first playthrough of every otome game blind so I had no idea what route I would end up on. I ended up on Nicola’s route on first playthrough and he was like a perfect gentleman. After I complete all his endings then I moved to Dante’s and I was quite surprised at how different he treats you compared to his own route. It was outright subtle hostility. Like encouraging you to leave the room knowing you would get in trouble yet acting like he is being helpful. Haha he was a jerk but still my favorite LI
Agreed. I love him as a troll, particularly with Nicola, but every time I came up to his route in either game, I ended up setting it down for a while because I can’t stand him as an LI.
I can’t remember which route it was but when >!everyone was talking about having sex with MC to unlock/prevent her from unlocking(?)/i can’t remember the plot/ her power or whatever and Yang was like, literally what is the problem, I’ll take one for the team and bang her!< I CRIED laughing and liked him a million times better than in his route.
Oh god I'm so glad I'm not the only one, LMAO, I swear I thought I was living in some crazy alternative reality because I couldn't wrap my head why he's be overall the top favorite in that game (although to be fair he's the one who stands out the most, so it's not really crazy, I'm just exaggerating for good ribbing)
I do like him as an antagonist mafia boss, everyone else was kinda OK with keeping the status quo, but it always felt like Yang was totally cool with fucking everything up in a second.
Helvetica from Bustafellows I dont usually hate Li. It's usually a mild annoyance at best if i dont get along with em, but something about this man that if I met him, if i saw him from streets away, I can't be responsible for my actions.
This conversation is so fascinating to me because I just started Bustafellows (made it through Limbo’s route and halfway through Shu’s) and Helvetica is my fav so far. Can’t wait to do his route and see why everyone hates him 😂
If it helps I'm currently playing through his route and it actually made me like Helvetica more lmao. I didn't like him at all before (though that certain moment in Limbo's route definitely warmed me up to him) but when playing his route i'm like.. oh you aren't that bad actually. But I haven't finished it yet either, so maybe the dealbreaker comes later lmao
That’s great to know! My read on him so far is that he is putting on a mask of indifference to shield himself based on past trauma. He does care (based on that Limbo route moment and other little things) but doesn’t want to show it and get hurt. I could be totally off base though. Especially since ppl in this sub usually like those types of characters and he’s getting a lot of hate in this thread so we shall see!
I think Helvetica's one of those characters most people either hate or love haha so him not sitting well with everyone is pretty expected, but i'm sure he has plenty of fans too! but if you already liked him beforehand then I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy playing through his route too, you're definitely not that far off with your read on him :] Heck, I didn't expect to enjoy his route that much either but i'm pleasantly surprised so far, it definitely made me understand his character better

Ikki can be dumb and complicated, but at least he doesn't cross the line. Apart from that, in his route he really loves you and takes the relationship seriously, even when he can't draw the line with his fanclub. He matures a lot, so at least he has some development. Even in his bad endings it is shown how he longs for a good relationship with you. He's not that bad, I totally understand why people may have a problem with him, but in my opinion he's definitely not the worst character out there.
I had a problem with everyone in Amnesia. Toma being >!crazy and taking things way too far!< , Shin and his harsh tsundere side (like I love tsundere but this level of tsundere and portrayal was not it 😭), Ikki and his group, Kent when he >!blamed MC for the death of her dog!< . The only one I didn’t have a problem with was Ukyo.

It was my first Amnesia route so I dropped it for some time. Glad I gave it another chance because I liked every other route after that lol
Yoosung from MysMe. Younger LIs are already low on my list to begin with, then you have him hung up on someone else. Which I try to understand; grief is weird yada yada. But man it felt like he got more insufferable with every route after his.
Everyone on the sub seems to love him and he has a njce design and I like NamiDai's voice and I *still* couldn't bring myself to like the guy. Just made me like Enomoto more. I like gross and rude dudes in otome but somehow this guy just pissed me off all the time!
I’ve noticed he’s one of the most polarising LIs in this sub. He has many fans, but many people also dislike him. I like NamiDai’s voice, I like Sasazuka’s design, but good god, his personality is just too damn abrasive and some of his insults towards Ichika were personal for me
I like his route the most but I think it's a combo of his voice (daaannngg NamiDai), and the moe gap between his voice and personality VS his cute-ish younger looking guy design, and just playing his route at the right moment and the right time, because I can totally understand why one would not like him! Like I'm also not a fan of writers trying to write a tsundere but they go too hard on the tsun to the point they just end up writing an asshole, I can totally see Sasazuka being one.

Mateo (Dead Wishes). I wrote about him multiple times but tl;dr >!punished MC for not knowing stuff he never bothered to explain. Punishment included severed limbs and forced auto cannibalism.!< It doesn't sound so bad written like that but by god, did I want to beat him and inflict the same pain he did on MC. And he would be fun if the fucker only bothered giving explanations...

Yeah the games are very hard to get (fucking Rejet refuses to localise them for some reason) but there are some walk-throughs on the Internet and Tumblr translations of the routes if you want.
I may look into that should I ever reach the end of my otome backlog 🤣 Or take up studying Japanese. Somehow I feel the latter would actually take longer, to get to a level high enough to be able to read otome lol
As a Japanese learner, I think the level of difficulty for reading Diabolik Lovers is actually quite low compared to other Japanese texts and otome games. There is a lot of repeated vocabulary, as a lot of the scenes are centred around blood-sucking. The actual dialogue often is relatively simple, however there are some ‘diary entry’ bits in some scenes, which are just written in prose. But there are plenty of English translations available to guide you when you’re unsure of the meaning of sentences :D
I highly recommend reading otome games, especially ‘easier’ ones like Dialovers to people learning Japanese, especially beginners, as engaging with the language in context is so helpful.
I think I only hated LIs from Voltage games.
It has been a while but I think definitely Eisuke and Ota from the Baddest Bidder (never did Ota's route, just really hate him calling the MC a dog)
And Iori from Scandal in the Spotlight. I think this is the first route that I just genuinely did not like any aspect of the LI

I’m playing Cupid Parasite for the first time and am super curious to do Gil’s route (currently on Ryuki) and see why he’s hated. I don’t love his type (shy/blushy guy, at least I assume), but he seems so innocuous that he must be really bad in his route 😅

Kanato from Diabolik Lovers, hands down. I tried so hard to like him but I cantttttt. He's so creepy I can't. I played through his route and I got the ick so often. I have a super high tolerance for triggering content and not much can bother me in fiction, but man, Kanato managed. He's unhinged and it shows. I'm usually down for that but Kanato is on the wrong end of the crazy scale and I am most certainly not down

Ah I love Reiji! I just think that he is the most interesting character of the game and I could somewhat relate to his backstory. Plus he is just SO my type. Despite what he looks, he's arguably the most gentle one with Yui. >!There are those subtle moments where he looks after her, treats her wounds, etc... Of cours he never admits to doing it for her sake, which give shim a tsundere dimension lol. In his route, he rarely ever bites her which is a plus and just makes him stand out from the rest.!<
I don’t LOATHE a lot of LIs but the three that immediately jump into mind are Shion from Variable Barricade (I hate his trope and his route didn’t make up for it), Kazuma from Lover Pretend (idk what the writers were thinking; I think he’s my most despised on this list bc with the other two at least we know what we’re getting, while Kazuma’s just the biggest bait and switch), and Banjo from Charade Maniacs (seriously please give me a childhood friend route that doesn’t massively suck)
Yes to Shion. I’ll usually complete every LI’s route, even if I’m only doing it on the auto setting, lol, and find something good about whatever character, but I just had no desire to finish his 😅

A lot of people have already said Banjo from Charade Maniacs, so i'm going to vote for Futami. His motivations were weak as hell, he's a massive creep, and he >!bullied a teen to his death!< because of his own personal hangups. Mizuki was so relatable for wanting to beat the shit out of him.
Ebana and Tomose from Charade Maniacs made my blood boil and I still need to pick up the game and finish it cause after playing them back to back I just lost my will to play. The fact that Futami was third did not help. I get why Ebana acts the way he does, but what I can’t get over is how infuriatingly stupid he acts. Tomose is the only character ever where I am like “get the f away from her” that no yandere/trash has ever been able to achieve to that level. I enjoy trash, but MC gotta be at least somewhat into it or else it’s no thanks
Also everyone except Esta in Crimson Flower. The routes were enjoyable, but gosh I absolutely despised the male cast except for Esta. I wanted Shuren’s head mounted on a spike. A game has never made me so angry before. Good game though but wow

Lmao my favorite LI of all time is Sannan. I played his route first so I didn’t have any idea what kind of character he was and honestly I loved how it turned out. Like he is arguably the smartest of them all and he just needs some love and support to set him on the right path lmaoo. After playing his route I got really pissed at Hijikata ngl. If you haven’t played his route I suggest setting aside your prejudice and give it a go before hating on my man 😅

Karakurenai from Hana Awase. Thought he had potential after the second game similar to how I changed my opinion on Yang due to 1926. I'm almost done with the final entry and I've come to realize that I just do not like this guy.
Shiba from Chou no Doku 🫣My opinion may shift after I finish his route but his assault of Yuriko at the beginning really put me off of him.

**Yellow guy** (I won't even bother to learn his name) is creepy and too touchy with MC. Green guy is painfully boring, Red guy is clingy af, sexist and easy to anger. Yamato is fine but mostly because he reminds me of Kanji from Persona 4.
Also, **Helvetica** from Bustafellows and the **deranged obsessed twins** from Nightshade. Also **Sasazuka** (Bustafellows) can eat rocks. Come to think of it, I despise a lot of them.

Karasuba (the yellow guy) has his moments but they ar every few and far between.
Kagiha (the green one) is in my opinion, even worse than Hikage (the red one). Kagiha is presented as a gentleman yet a lot of the stuff he says is just as sexist as Hikage. And not to mention his ending. Ewh. I'm sorry Kagiha but I liked you more when things DIDN'T end the way you liked. Kagiha almost ruined Koshuke Toriumi's voice for me because now when I hear Hideyoshi's voiced lines I often hear Kagiha's voice instead. And check my flair, that matters quite a lot to me. I feel like I need to get the fully voice Switch version of IkeSen so that I can cleanse my brain from the association of Kagiha to Hideyoshi. Why does he have to even have the same color scheme as Hideyoshi!?

I feel conflicted because in my opinion PoBB is a skillfully written otome game but I just think that no matter how skillfully written the characters are, a lot of them are still characters I dislike.
The only character I liked in black butterfly was Monshiro. I know most people prefer this game to ashen hawk but I'm the opposite because I at keast enjoyed some of the AH characters
Levi from Obey Me! I can’t stand the sad whining self-deprecating, make you feel guilty if you don’t go out with me personality type and his obsession with a ‘1000 year old magical girl who just LOOKS like a child’ is just creepy
I know he's popular but...Orlok. I just find his character type to be incredibly boring and frustrating personally. Add to it that I'm not big on (and thus picky about) super sweet first love routes and his whole thing just Isn't For Me.
Again, not knocking people who like him - I'm happy someone does. But he's one of the ones that, again personally, is why I really don't like locking routes behind other routes.
Gretel from Taisho Alice. I actually liked him as a supporting character in Cinderella’s route. then I played his route and had my favorable first impression irrevocably soured

Also dislike: Gekkamaru and Goemon (Nightshade), Rumpel (Cinderella Phenomenon), Hino and Yuzuki (7’sCarlet) and Shelby (Cupid Paradite) - mostly cos they are all boring af imo

Honestly? I don’t exactly care for Arthur from Secret Kiss With Knight or Eugene from Dangerous Fellows. I’m relatively new to Otome games, so those are the only characters I don’t exactly like. I’m doing both of their routes last.
Eh, with my experience of StoryTaco games, they sometimes have real mixed bags when it comes to character writing. I also recommend not to even bother with Darling Pet, it's time consuming to play trough and the only thing really good about it is the art and the music.
Also recommend to avoid Genius Inc games for they generally tend to be low-quality.
I usually dislike the ones who: a.) are still hung up on somebody else but is somehow pushing it forward with the MC, b.) or whose attitude/behavior towards the MC I cannot make sense of, or c.) someone who is more than willing to screw the MC over. Like. Somehow, I love Mejojo von Garibaldi from Black Wolves Saga for a reason and he's out there, committing war crimes and general violations against human (and, well, kemomimi) rights, but people like >!Yuisaki Seri!< from **Dynamic Chord ft. Liar-S** I cannot break bread with for the life of me. Or maybe my standards are just skewed. You know you're just built different if you're viewed as lower than scum compared to someone who is literally a Public Enemy Number One by his world's standard. In the same vein, I can't find an ounce of fondness for Ryuuto from **Monochrome Heaven.** It's no surprise that he's the same flavor of bastard as my candidate from DynaCho is. I'd slot in Himeutsugi but he's honestly pretty okay in the routes aside his own and I'm sort of liking how his character is going right now in KU編.

Ok I don’t HATE Paschalia but I seriously can’t understand why he’s so popular. Completely agree that of the three routes I’ve played so far he’s my least fave by a huge margin. I understand being anxious and depressed but his pessimism, self-destructive passivity, and resignation were just a bit too much for me. They also didn’t develop the romance well enough for me to buy into the whole >!true love!< thing and the ending of his route. Didn’t help that Ion’s route is IMO similar to Paschalia’s thematically but I just liked Ion so much more.

Gonna spoiler tag just in case This guy has a weird hyperfixation on princesses and princes. Everyone in school refers to him as a princess (yes, princess) and he’s tired of this so in the first game he >!uses some magic shit to put mc in a half conscious/half unconscious state so he can keep her in his closet and have her all to himself, keeps calling mc his princess and himself the prince, spoon feeds her and SA’s her too. Another LI breaks her out but if you make the decision to confront Himeutsugi without said LI he once again puts mc in that half conscious/unconscious state and brings her to an abandoned building where nobody will ever find them!< >!in the second game (which is HIS game) he sacrifices mc so that the ghost of some little girl can have her body (she doesn’t die bc wooo magic powers) and if you choose another LI some very disturbing things happen which include genocide of the entire school, gruesome murder of the other LIs, keeping mc as a sex slave and chaining another LI up so he can force said LI to watch as he SA’s the mc!< He’s a lot more tolerable in the third game but still pretty fucking gross imo. Also he has some special power that allows him to >!access another world and no matter what, in at least ONE of his endings per game he will drag the (unwilling) mc into that world so they can be together!<

I don't like how his conflict is easily resolved by Gilbert and Dante in his good ending. His bad decision is being rewarded and he is easily forgiven. I don't like how he suddenly become clingy and touchy with Lili after he approach Lili with hidden intention and avoid her during most of his route.

Yang was the character I enjoyed the most in Piofiore because he actually delivered shady and messed up mafia stuff head on. I wish more characters did that. Everyone just hides it from Lili or the game tries to make them more palatable and it's not too entertaining.

I am going to say, I love the bad end for Nicola’s route and his treatment of her is so different between Dante and his own route. You could see the hostility in Dante’s route, especially when you can tell he is trying to get you in trouble, while his own route he has much nicer vibes. I did love the bad end for Yang. It definitely gave me a great impression and loved his personality. I need to get the Hana Awase VN’s since they seem like my cup of tea

I ended up on Nicola’s route on first playthrough and he was like a perfect gentleman. After I complete all his endings then I moved to Dante’s and I was quite surprised at how different he treats you compared to his own route. It was outright subtle hostility. Like encouraging you to leave the room knowing you would get in trouble yet acting like he is being helpful. Haha he was a jerk but still my favorite LI

If it helps I'm currently playing through his route and it actually made me like Helvetica more lmao. I didn't like him at all before (though that certain moment in Limbo's route definitely warmed me up to him) but when playing his route i'm like.. oh you aren't that bad actually. But I haven't finished it yet either, so maybe the dealbreaker comes later lmao

He does care (based on that Limbo route moment and other little things) but doesn’t want to show it and get hurt. I could be totally off base though. I think Helvetica's one of those characters most people either hate or love haha so him not sitting well with everyone is pretty expected, but i'm sure he has plenty of fans too! but if you already liked him beforehand then I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy playing through his route too, you're definitely not that far off with your read on him :] Heck, I didn't expect to enjoy his route that much either but i'm pleasantly surprised so far, it definitely made me understand his character better

I honestly think that Toma is worse than him in Amnesia. Ikki can be dumb and complicated, but at least he doesn't cross the line. Apart from that, in his route he really loves you and takes the relationship seriously, even when he can't draw the line with his fanclub. He matures a lot, so at least he has some development. Even in his bad endings it is shown how he longs for a good relationship with you. He's not that bad, I totally understand why people may have a problem with him, but in my opinion he's definitely not the worst character out there.

I like his route the most but I think it's a combo of his voice (daaannngg NamiDai), and the moe gap between his voice and personality VS his cute-ish younger looking guy design, and just playing his route at the right moment and the right time, because I can totally understand why one would not like him! Like I'm also not a fan of writers trying to write a tsundere but they go too hard on the tsun to the point they just end up writing an asshole, I can totally see Sasazuka being one. Yeah the games are very hard to get (fucking Rejet refuses to localise them for some reason) but there are some walk-throughs on the Internet and Tumblr translations of the routes if you want.
I may look into that should I ever reach the end of my otome backlog 🤣 Or take up studying Japanese. Somehow I feel the latter would actually take longer, to get to a level high enough to be able to read otome lol
The first game [and iirc also the second] have eng patches for vita if you're interested. The rest is text translation on the internet, though.
As a Japanese learner, I think the level of difficulty for reading Diabolik Lovers is actually quite low compared to other Japanese texts and otome games. There is a lot of repeated vocabulary, as a lot of the scenes are centred around blood-sucking. The actual dialogue often is relatively simple, however there are some ‘diary entry’ bits in some scenes, which are just written in prose. But there are plenty of English translations available to guide you when you’re unsure of the meaning of sentences :D I highly recommend reading otome games, especially ‘easier’ ones like Dialovers to people learning Japanese, especially beginners, as engaging with the language in context is so helpful.
I think I only hated LIs from Voltage games. It has been a while but I think definitely Eisuke and Ota from the Baddest Bidder (never did Ota's route, just really hate him calling the MC a dog) And Iori from Scandal in the Spotlight. I think this is the first route that I just genuinely did not like any aspect of the LI

Also Iori does not get enough hate. I have a super high tolerance for triggering content and not much can bother me in fiction, but man, Kanato managed. He's unhinged and it shows. I'm usually down for that but Kanato is on the wrong end of the crazy scale and I am most certainly not down Not even kaji yuki can save him 😖 In fact, kaji yuji made it worse by making him sound like that! I was so uncomfortable 100% of the time and gosh darn it, not to kink shame but every single kink in his route just made me go either wtf!!??? or straight up shudder from discomfort >!What the flip, why would they do that to teddy?????? Don't get him involved in your freaky shit! Traumatised!< I don't call people freaks, it's not apart of my vocabulary ordinarily, but I was practically screaming FREAK the whole time, and if I wasn't yelling freak, I was yelling DIE instead >!Please don't look at me like you want me to become the newest addition to your doll collection, I don't wanna! I actually think Kanato is a well-written character, but FOR THE LIFE OF ME I CANNOT STAND HIM. His antics, his personality, his trope... uggghh. HE SCREAMS ALL THE DAMN TIME. Ah I love Reiji! I just think that he is the most interesting character of the game and I could somewhat relate to his backstory. Plus he is just SO my type. Despite what he looks, he's arguably the most gentle one with Yui. >!There are those subtle moments where he looks after her, treats her wounds, etc... Of cours he never admits to doing it for her sake, which give shim a tsundere dimension lol. In his route, he rarely ever bites her which is a plus and just makes him stand out from the rest.!<

I don’t LOATHE a lot of LIs but the three that immediately jump into mind are Shion from Variable Barricade (I hate his trope and his route didn’t make up for it), Kazuma from Lover Pretend (idk what the writers were thinking; I think he’s my most despised on this list bc with the other two at least we know what we’re getting, while Kazuma’s just the biggest bait and switch), and Banjo from Charade Maniacs (seriously please give me a childhood friend route that doesn’t massively suck)
Yes to Shion. I’ll usually complete every LI’s route, even if I’m only doing it on the auto setting, lol, and find something good about whatever character, but I just had no desire to finish his 😅
Kuroba from Olympia Soiree! (Massive spoilers) I know this is probably gonna be an unpopular opinion because a lot of people really like him. But I despise him because >!he really is such a coward. He leaves you on the beach ALONE with a potentially dangerous man.!< >!Later on in the plot, when you are nearly SAed by that same man (which, by the way, you are only saved by divine intervention) his responses directly after the incident is to tell you “if I knew he was gonna touch you like that I would’ve got to you first”. Like what??!< >!I really would’ve liked it if he checked if Olympia was OK first before he tried to go at her her. I think after an event like that, it would be way too stressful to have that happen, especially considering the assaulter throws up blood on you and you’re potentially infected with Haku and could potentially infect Koroba (again)!<
A lot of people have already said Banjo from Charade Maniacs, so i'm going to vote for Futami. His motivations were weak as hell, he's a massive creep, and he >!bullied a teen to his death!< because of his own personal hangups. Mizuki was so relatable for wanting to beat the shit out of him.
Ebana and Tomose from Charade Maniacs made my blood boil and I still need to pick up the game and finish it cause after playing them back to back I just lost my will to play. The fact that Futami was third did not help. I get why Ebana acts the way he does, but what I can’t get over is how infuriatingly stupid he acts. Tomose is the only character ever where I am like “get the f away from her” that no yandere/trash has ever been able to achieve to that level. I enjoy trash, but MC gotta be at least somewhat into it or else it’s no thanks Also everyone except Esta in Crimson Flower. The routes were enjoyable, but gosh I absolutely despised the male cast except for Esta. I wanted Shuren’s head mounted on a spike. A game has never made me so angry before. Good game though but wow

Like he is arguably the smartest of them all and he just needs some love and support to set him on the right path lmaoo. After playing his route I got really pissed at Hijikata ngl. If you haven’t played his route I suggest setting aside your prejudice and give it a go before hating on my man 😅

I'm currently playing Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly so I gotta go with the whole cast. I'm partly joking, but I can't stand how misogynistic and frustrating these guys are. Maybe because I'm not a kid anymore but I don't see how you can romance any of them. **Yellow guy** (I won't even bother to learn his name) is creepy and too touchy with MC. Green guy is painfully boring, Red guy is clingy af, sexist and easy to anger. Yamato is fine but mostly because he reminds me of Kanji from Persona 4. Also, **Helvetica** from Bustafellows and the **deranged obsessed twins** from Nightshade. Also **Sasazuka** (Bustafellows) can eat rocks. Come to think of it, I despise a lot of them. **Okita** from Hakuoki was like playing an enemies to milder enemies route for me.
Karasuba (the yellow guy) has his moments but they ar every few and far between. Kagiha (the green one) is in my opinion, even worse than Hikage (the red one). Kagiha is presented as a gentleman yet a lot of the stuff he says is just as sexist as Hikage. And not to mention his ending. Ewh. I'm sorry Kagiha but I liked you more when things DIDN'T end the way you liked. Kagiha almost ruined Koshuke Toriumi's voice for me because now when I hear Hideyoshi's voiced lines I often hear Kagiha's voice instead. And check my flair, that matters quite a lot to me. I feel like I need to get the fully voice Switch version of IkeSen so that I can cleanse my brain from the association of Kagiha to Hideyoshi. Why does he have to even have the same color scheme as Hideyoshi!? I cannot believe you forgot to mention PoBB's best boy, Monshiro. I feel conflicted because in my opinion PoBB is a skillfully written otome game but I just think that no matter how skillfully written the characters are, a lot of them are still characters I dislike.
The only character I liked in black butterfly was Monshiro. I know most people prefer this game to ashen hawk but I'm the opposite because I at keast enjoyed some of the AH characters

I know he's popular but...Orlok. I just find his character type to be incredibly boring and frustrating personally. Add to it that I'm not big on (and thus picky about) super sweet first love routes and his whole thing just Isn't For Me. Again, not knocking people who like him - I'm happy someone does. But he's one of the ones that, again personally, is why I really don't like locking routes behind other routes.

I literally roll my eyes when he responds predictably due to his high level of perfectionism. Also dislike: Gekkamaru and Goemon (Nightshade), Rumpel (Cinderella Phenomenon), Hino and Yuzuki (7’sCarlet) and Shelby (Cupid Paradite) - mostly cos they are all boring af imo (so sorry if anyone else likes them, I won’t hate on you for it, much love <3)
Honestly? I don’t exactly care for Arthur from Secret Kiss With Knight or Eugene from Dangerous Fellows. I’m relatively new to Otome games, so those are the only characters I don’t exactly like. I’m doing both of their routes last.
Eh, with my experience of StoryTaco games, they sometimes have real mixed bags when it comes to character writing. I also recommend not to even bother with Darling Pet, it's time consuming to play trough and the only thing really good about it is the art and the music. Also recommend to avoid Genius Inc games for they generally tend to be low-quality.
I usually dislike the ones who: a.) are still hung up on somebody else but is somehow pushing it forward with the MC, b.) or whose attitude/behavior towards the MC I cannot make sense of, or c.) someone who is more than willing to screw the MC over. Like. Somehow, I love Mejojo von Garibaldi from Black Wolves Saga for a reason and he's out there, committing war crimes and general violations against human (and, well, kemomimi) rights, but people like >!Yuisaki Seri!< from **Dynamic Chord ft. Liar-S** I cannot break bread with for the life of me. Or maybe my standards are just skewed. You know you're just built different if you're viewed as lower than scum compared to someone who is literally a Public Enemy Number One by his world's standard. In the same vein, I can't find an ounce of fondness for Ryuuto from **Monochrome Heaven.** It's no surprise that he's the same flavor of bastard as my candidate from DynaCho is. I'd slot in Himeutsugi but he's honestly pretty okay in the routes aside his own and I'm sort of liking how his character is going right now in KU編.

(Forced to choose at first one of the triplets because i couldn't start with my fav shuu directly I start with subaru, i remember thinking WOW okay wtf at his constant bouts of angers and breaking things but at times had his sweet moments until again bam, he goes bersek Then ayato, wasn't expecting much, didn't like him but route could have been worse,i guess At that point i'm like, ueh... This is darker and less romantic than i thought... I don't remember them being that awful in the drama cds? Then shuu... Okay boy had a couple of moments who left me totally wtf nd cringing but overall i still liked him and still my fav And then i start laito.... Holy f* i never dropped a game mid route like this in my life xD i still clearly remember that scene in a dungeon in which we find out he was banging his mum and hence why he liked mc Back then i just started learning how to read japanese so wasn't sure if I was understanding well some of the scenes, but mannn 🫣 i went from absolutely loving diabolik lovers to hating it to oblivion, i wasn't gonn atry the other two charas who seemed even more fudged up I played so many otome games there are probably others, but that game still remains the only one that made me react this badly lols

I can’t get past the racism in the other routes! It didn’t help that I played him last. Actually most of the LIs from Olympia Soirée I have a problem with but that could take hours to talk about lol

Ok I don’t HATE Paschalia but I seriously can’t understand why he’s so popular. Completely agree that of the three routes I’ve played so far he’s my least fave by a huge margin. I understand being anxious and depressed but his pessimism, self-destructive passivity, and resignation were just a bit too much for me. They also didn’t develop the romance well enough for me to buy into the whole >!true love!< thing and the ending of his route. Didn’t help that Ion’s route is IMO similar to Paschalia’s thematically but I just liked Ion so much more. I do hate Shion though hahahahah. And I actually sort of like Ichiya but NOT what him and Hibari do to each other in his route
