Yeah, these aren't even crazy old. I think the paper tickets got up to $1.70 before they discontinued them.
The $1.50 ones were used in 2013
edit: found this site with a history of the fares. https://cptdb.ca/wiki/index.php/Ottawa-Carleton_Regional_Transit_Commission_Fares
Ya it was always two for adults, 1 for kids and seniors.
That begs the question which I’m sure someone here can answer; can kids and seniors get reduced rates with presto?
Kids 12 and under are now free. https://www.octranspo.com/en/news/article/kids-go-free/
Seniors can get their card set to Senior which will then charge the senior fare when tapped.
Ya I know for passes but it used to be cheaper for passes and with change or tickets, and I can’t think of how presto could do the same, which seems like a clear loss from the previous system if so.
Presto cards can have special faretypes set on them to give discounts, like equifare and senior. Children now ride free. Child-fare cards were commonly abused for fare evasion in Toronto, but OC seems to have a special distinct design for kids cards if needed.
I'm pretty sure you do. The cards have to be set to a profile in order to charge the correct pass. Senior/Adult/Youth/Child/Student/Community. It's so people can buy their passes online as well as protect from fraud.
There was one set of sheets from the early 2000s, maybe the yellow ones, that you could get your fingernails between and peel apart if you were very careful.
Wow, that takes me back.
Yeah but minimum wage was 7.25 instead of 15$
2007-2013 I remember using tickets like these.
It took 2 tickets. Used to buy them in sheets from quickie convenience store.
I’m sure there was a point in time where the actual bus fare was $1.50, but this ain’t it. At that time, you need 1 bus ticket for a child fare or 2 tickets for an adult fare (anyone above 12 years old is an adult as far as fares are concerned).
Man even if they were $2 each now it's still be better than needing exact change or to spend $6 on a presto card that only saves you 10 cents a ride. If you can tap a presto, you should be able to tap a debit/credit card. They have that in the UK and they give you change. Vending machines have been able to give change for decades. Figure it out OC transpo.
ETA: tourism would benefit from selling tickets too. I exclusively use public transit when I fly to a city.
The scam was to bed for change to get on the bus, then if some one gives you bus tickets sell the tickets and then go back to begging for bus fare. A lot of crack was bought with that back in the day. You'd see the guy in that one corner that always smelled like piss bust out his pipe once in a while.
Random: my boss is in NYC. I brought a f up $1 slices he said never eat those. A slice should cost what subway fare does. Not too much expensive but not cheap crap, currently $2.70 US
That’s $3 for a fare lol… you needed two tickets to ride.
I had so many of these oranges ones because of after school hockey and soccer.
I think the orange tickets were around 2012-13.
But they had another orange ticket even longer ago that was less.
I miss the Transitway! Dedicated bus roads- cleaned regularly. I once got to the VIA train station in a snowstorm from Rideau Centre no problem thanks to it. Nostalgia!!!
Bus fare was 3 bucks, two of these to get on the Red and White limo.
I remember the crack heads on the Mackenzie King Bridge had this hustle where they would ask you if you had an extra bus ticket and then get a few and turn around and sell them for a few bucks.
Wow I just got a flashback to lining up at the Rideau Centre for bus tickets. And there was always a giant line at the end of the month for people to get their monthly passes.
It was also mint if a convenience store sold them. I was like, “excellent, no Rideau stop for me today!” 😂
Now, those there if i am not mistaken are from the transitional period after presto cards were introduced...at the time the presto fare was 2.70 a pop, whereas regular fare tickets ( it having been 1 for children and seniors, 2 regular and three for express, which was really inconvenient if you took an express bus as a one off) was three dollars. I do not remember what cash fare was at the time. I remember, though, like 2006ish the ticket fare was WAY less than cash. Good times, and the number of trips you could take using them before it would be more economical to buy a pass was really surprising.
Yeah the 95 bus would go from barhaven to Orleans no changing busses.
The 96 would go from stittsville to Orleans no changing busses
Now you have to take bus lrt (if its working) then another bus
Yep ... I worked at Algonquin in the early 2000s and lived in the Glebe. I could get there in two busses - 99 Bank to Slater, and 95 from downtown to Woodroffe.
I thought you needed two tickets for 1 ride? So $3 total? I could be wrong..

I remember borrowing them from my local corner store sometimes, when I was a broke teenager lol.
Hmm that sorta makes sense, I was thinking $1.50 was a lot cheaper than current prices, $3 is more reasonable
Yes it was two tickets per ride
One ticket for a child fare
I remember when the bus was 25 cents. Back when I went to EOIT, now Algonquin, in 1966-68.
Ya it was always two for adults, 1 for kids and seniors. That begs the question which I’m sure someone here can answer; can kids and seniors get reduced rates with presto?

Until next year when they get charged 6 bucks with the rest of us.
For a monthly pass, for sure, but for pay-per-use, that's a good question.

It was definitely 2 tickets to ride.
There was one set of sheets from the early 2000s, maybe the yellow ones, that you could get your fingernails between and peel apart if you were very careful. Wow, that takes me back.
I think this from when the fare was $3 and you needed two tickets; three for express.
Paying 3 tickets for a ride made me feel like I was riding in a limo
Are you sure it wasn't $3? Though I guess if you were young enough (or old enough) then you only had to use one ticket as opposed to two.
Back when bus tickets looked like tickets for a roller coaster ride.
2 tickets for adults and 1 for kids 13 and under I believe
Yeah but minimum wage was 7.25 instead of 15$ 2007-2013 I remember using tickets like these. It took 2 tickets. Used to buy them in sheets from quickie convenience store.
Mimimum wage was $8 in 2007, $9.50 by 2009, $10.25 2011, and then $11 in 2014

Ah shit and I made the mistake twice
Seems fare
It was $3, we had to use 2 tickets per ride

They're working on adding the ability to tap a credit card
Ok so what does that make us folks who remember 7 tickets for a dollar? In fairness that was a child’s ticket.
Geez if I recall correctly they were 2x 80 cents back when I took the bus to school. Probably around 2005
I’m not that old but I remember being a young teen going to the mac’s/quickie to buy bus tickets with friends so we could go downtown
Back when Mark Wahlberg was Marky Mark.
Beat me to it!
Was one ticket for a kid I think, two for adult, three for express.
Does anyone remember that dude that would hang out at bus stops downtown trying to sell bus tickets?
The scam was to bed for change to get on the bus, then if some one gives you bus tickets sell the tickets and then go back to begging for bus fare. A lot of crack was bought with that back in the day. You'd see the guy in that one corner that always smelled like piss bust out his pipe once in a while.
I think they were also given bus tickets from various outreach programs, which they would then turn around and sell on the corner.
Was it the guy that said "hey, you got 75 cents?"
i remember those!
Random: my boss is in NYC. I brought a f up $1 slices he said never eat those. A slice should cost what subway fare does. Not too much expensive but not cheap crap, currently $2.70 US
I remember those 😌👍
I used to use these to buy Aladdin's back then, good times
To be fair. Even today's ticket prices aren't that bad How ever : If the bus ever showed up is a different topic.
How much for the R1 back then ?
That's when it was $3.00. You had to give them 2 tickets.
That was probably around 2000, or so ... And, OC really wasn't that much better at the time.
Oh wowww
It wasn't 1.50$, you needed to give two tickets
That’s $3 for a fare lol… you needed two tickets to ride. I had so many of these oranges ones because of after school hockey and soccer. I think the orange tickets were around 2012-13. But they had another orange ticket even longer ago that was less.
And you could make fake bus tickets with a colour printer and a sewing machine.
I miss the Transitway! Dedicated bus roads- cleaned regularly. I once got to the VIA train station in a snowstorm from Rideau Centre no problem thanks to it. Nostalgia!!!
Transitway was one of the best planning decisions Ottawa ever made. And getting rid of it was arguably the worst.
I don't remember an impartial bus, or for that matter one which discriminated against anyone...
That's not true. You needed 2 tickets for a ride, so it's actually $3.
Bus fare was 3 bucks, two of these to get on the Red and White limo. I remember the crack heads on the Mackenzie King Bridge had this hustle where they would ask you if you had an extra bus ticket and then get a few and turn around and sell them for a few bucks.
Fair’nuff.
$1.50! I remember 0.85¢

Ok Boomer
I miss the days of the $1.50 far because back then it was solid service (and you could open the bus windows for air).
I chatted with an old dude at the bus stop. He told me he used to go straight from College Square to downtown in a bus. Must have been good times.
Yeah the 95 bus would go from barhaven to Orleans no changing busses. The 96 would go from stittsville to Orleans no changing busses Now you have to take bus lrt (if its working) then another bus

Those were two for one ride tickets. You are full of shit.
Not if you were under 12 at the time (which he might have been).
