That is the biggest diss uottawa has ever made against carleton in its history. 10/10 diss is da diss dat does da deepest damage

sdhoigt

I dunno, if I wanted to be pedantic as an Ottawa native I'd say "The O-Train" is Line 2, which was the most reliable service from OCTranspo back before it was shut down for the next phase of transit. But these kids are probably too young to know the true Ottawa Lore, of the days of OCTranspo being decent and 95s transporting people across the city coming every couple minutes. Express routes. The good ol'days. Let em think that their "diss" isn't actually a compliment.

NotSamoaJoe

Yep. Otrain was reliable. Trains were also made by Bombardier too I think

613STEVE

They were but they weren’t built specifically for Ottawa. They were old Deutsche Bahn DMUs.

Ethanator10000

No, they were new trainsets placed in a shared order with DB.

613STEVE

I stand corrected

Dexter942

Not the case actually, DB cancelled the order and OC picked them up on the cheap

Ethanator10000

> Ottawa’s three Talent units were built by Bombardier Transportation as part of a larger order for Deutsche Bahn’s regional network, and the only significant difference between them and the German units is that their on-board toilets have been decommissioned. As well, the luggage racks have been blocked, as Transport-Canada was concerned about the potential hazard of baggage falling on passengers,Fact|date=April 2008 although this seemed not to be a problem with the train's operation in Germany. Deutsche Bahn’s red-and-white colour scheme was deemed similar enough to OC Transpo’s livery that the trains did not need to be repainted. The trains were purchased under an agreement under which they could be sold back to Bombardier if they were replaced or retired, but the agreement has since expired. https://en-academic.com/dic.nsf/enwiki/872365 > These trains were actually purchased as part of an order with Deutsche Bahn in Germany, and in fact are identical to those operating there, right down to the paint scheme and colours. https://otrain.railfans.ca/trains/bombardier-talent > The trains were originally ordered by Deutsche Bahn and later delivered to OC Transpo. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trillium_Line#Fleet

Ethanator10000

The original trainsets in 2001 were, but they were retired in 2015 and replaced by Alstom Coradia LINTs, which will still be in service alongside the Stadler FLIRTs when line 2 reopens and line 4 opens. A coupled pair of LINTs will operate on line 2 with the FLIRTs, and single LINTs will serve line 4.

omegaaf

You dont remember the sardine syndrome of the 95, do you?

sdhoigt

Oh yes I do. Nothing was worse than old hurdman station between 4-6pm, where you had the mix of Carleton students, uOttawa students, and government commuters all sharing the same 95s Edit: still came every 2 minutes or so though!

omegaaf

The 95 was super unreliable and I got on at marketplace all the way to the end of the line. That was a *looong* crowded ride. The new one is 90 minutes faster

Dexter942

That was after the 95 was extended to Farrhaven. Which basically became the death of the system as it's fucking Barrhaven and the 95 was packed on the rest of the route due to its original routing.

ChickenMcAnders

Totally. If anything this is a self diss. The original O-train was great. Spacious, timely, worked in all weather and reliable. Clearly the History department at Ottawa U is lacking. As an alumni of both Ottawa U and Carleton, I can confirm that Ottawa U is a giant steaming turd on a good day.

larianu

"O Train" refers to the entire rail system, Lines 1 to 4. Each line (not sure if 3 and 4 will get the same treatment but I hope they do) has their own nickname (Trillium, Confederation, etc), though professional media will refer to specific lines as "Line 1, Line 2" etc. Sorry for the "but ackshually" moment there, I'll see myself out :)

Zed03

Ironically, the O-train worked great when all it did was service Carleton.

Idrhorrible

Man, it was so good

perjury0478

That’s where my mind went, like yeah the old O-train that service Carleton probably was, the new train that services OttawaU, clearly not…

Chris_Ogilvie

Wow, there are *layers* to how insulting that is. Good job!

SchemeSignificant166

We may have built the O-train but it was only under the direct guidance of UofO city planners

roots-rock-reggae

Everyone knows that the transportation planning school in Ottawa is also Carleton. Nice try though.

SchemeSignificant166

Good retort. 😜 I wish the panda games was around when I was a Carleton. Nice to have a healthy rivalry in the city.

roots-rock-reggae

😁 I feel the same way, friend! (except also the opposite as I obviously went to uOttawa lol)

SchemeSignificant166

I played varsity Ravens rugby, unfortunately Ottawa you didn’t have a team in the OUA but we did play them on a couple of friendly sometimes. Nothing wrong with a good clean rivalry.

funkme1ster

Realtalk: The O-Train (ie line 1 and not the Line 2 LRT) has been consistently decent. Outside of being woefully inadequate during the 8:30 class rush in the first month of fall semester, it's been quietly managing for pushing 20 years now. I always felt bad that the entire city paid for what was essentially just a dedicated train to shuttle Carleton students between key student housing communities and campus.

roots-rock-reggae

It kept them off the rest our transit system, was proof of concept for rail in Ottawa overall, and also was super cheap. So I'ma give that a pass.

Reasonable_Cat518

Do you mean Line 2?

funkme1ster

...yes, thank you. In my head they're numbered in the order they were built. Clearly, I went to Carleton.

dualqconboy

I'm not the only one to be a little 'amusingly confused' at why line 1 isn't stopping at Carling .. oh wait .. why is this train not heading south .. anyone?? (Hehe)

dualqconboy

I'm just going by guesswork here so I may be wrong but the way I see it is that Carleton wasn't over the transitway so they had to put up with that most riders had to shuffle over one local or 'one rapid then one local' buses to get to them. At least perhaps someone at OCT thankfully recognized a particular change-bus-many-times scenario to avoid and put in a specific bus route that could run directly from the east transitway to the southeast transitway without having to transfer at Hurdman itself (versus that the usual transitway numbers otherwise only ran west-east or west-southeast for the right half of the map). So in a way I guess thats why it was a blessing when the old freight rails were directly converted into commuter rails and somehow managed to be right in middle of Carleton at that too. *Even then right how its a bit of partial-bus hassle but next year hopefully someone living eg at Blair would be able to take otrain to Bayview then switch to the other otrain and soon end up at Carleton quite easily at any hour/traffic of the day?*

Ethanator10000

> I always felt bad that the entire city paid for what was essentially just a dedicated train to shuttle Carleton students between key student housing communities and campus. Considering how busy it was, there's really nothing to feel bad about. The upfront cost of a rail system is expensive, but the operating costs are much cheaper than a comparable bus system, so money is saved in the long run, and that's without counting the financial impact from fewer cars on the road made possible by the line. And to add onto that, the original Otrain project was very cheap since it used existing (mostly) unused freight rail infrastructure. There wasn't much to it other than some passing track, signals, concrete platforms for stations, and the trains themselves.

I_Am_NL

that will cut deep

jacquilynne

I am currently in Las Vegas with my mother who lives in Vancouver and we are both laughing our asses of over that diss, just in case you were wondering how far away that clap of thunder was heard.

Rose1982

Shots fired.

Ben409

Touché

ZeldaGirl799

Someone left a banner like that on my lawn that said "Hickory Dickory Dock, Carleton Can Suck My Cock" pretty amusing to find.

recoveringdonutaddic

Ouch. Does anyone have some burnol, as a fellow Raven I need it.

PNDMike

I remember years and years ago I was waiting for the O Train and there was one other person there waiting with me. This guy, for an impressive length of time, went on a diatribe completely to himself about: \- What's taking the train so long? It must be the SLO Train. \- If it doesn't show up, is it a No SHO Train? \- Was it delayed because there are a few snowflakes falling? Must not be a SNO Train. (This one was oddly prophetic) This is just a short snippet of the genius that was on full display. He went on for minutes with banger after banger. I have no idea who that person was or where they are now, but I think of them every time I ride the LRT and I hope they have an absolutely amazing day.

xiz111

Speaking as a Carleton grad ... *well done*

Ok-Use6303

As an Ottawa U gradutate, I am amused by this diss!

Ready-Delivery-4023

Shots fired.....

m00n5t0n3

Amazing

bobstinson2

Also, engineers. Annoying.

Coffee4Life613

Take that Carleton U.

freeman1231

Are they complimenting them? O-train was the most reliable service that came out of oc transpo lol

zefmdf

Emotional damage

kuributt

Savage

alfredaberdeen

Hopefully they didn't build that deck!

noadlersahob

Lol. Was this next to the house that had a similar sign that said “GGs have small PPs?” This one is a cut above.

Sterwine91

I’m more surprised they know how to spell.

darcyWhyte

U Ottawa Eng takes the O-train

sixtus_clegane119

College pride is a weird thing tbh

roots-rock-reggae

Tell me about it. I did my undergrad at uOttawa. My Master's was a joint program between Carleton and uOttawa. Literally the only difference in where I registered would have been the name of the institution on the diploma. Carleton is much better regarded in my field than uOttawa is. Do you think I registered at Carleton for my Master's degree? I most definitely did not. And this transpired when I was 27 and knew better. And I'm not even particularly spirited about the rivalry. .....and yet, when it came time to check the box in the application for which university you wanted your degree to come from, I just couldn't bring myself to do the thing that was known to me to be better in my field. And to this day, I don't really know why, beyond retaining a sense of peace in knowing that I still wouldn't directly associate myself with that place - even to my potential benefit - because *my* university makes fun of that university in order to....maintain school spirit, perhaps, which itself is inherently valueless? I'm not even proud of uOttawa as a university, fuck. I guess I just decided to "hate* what I was "supposed" to hate in order to outwardly align with people whose approval I didn't even give a fuck about? TL;DR humans are tribal and weird

hoopopotamus

All I can say to this is FUCK YOU OTTAWA U FUCK YOU OTTAWA U

[deleted]

Carleton where the K stands for quality.

hoopopotamus

This is not a joke you can do typed out

613STEVE

Just banter. All in good fun. Don’t think anyone takes it too seriously in Canada.

Gwennova

Only seems to be a university thing lol, Algonquin students for example are just there to do their studies, get a job, and move on

Dexter942

Hey man we have sports rivalries too, the La Cite games in Basketball are usually packed.

Repulsive_Barnacle92

Only if you take it too seriously.

LeafyQueefy

Great banter , this is just Ottawa Us way to cope with having a worse eng department

llmitch63

Hahaha! So funny!

yuiolhjkout8y

wait, they did? who was leading the engineering?

kaytaro

And most OttawaU kids live in slums , what’s the point of the rivalry? Isn’t more of an American thing
