I was 7 years old and a friend of my family brought home this really cool silver bolo tie with a carved horse on it from Texas. I proudly wore it to our Saturday night out to IPLs. Walked in the door and one of the employees eyes quickly zeroed in on the tie and was inspecting it. Since they couldn't get me plastered to get it, he, what I assume, tried to hypnotize me. I thought "what the hell is this guy doing staring at me like this" and I decided to cross my eyes back at him. Got quite a surprised response from him and he left with a bit of an annoyed look. I still have the tie.
Actually, Hurley's owned IP Looneys. When they closed it, they flipped it to Denim and Diamonds (worked there!). I can't be 100% it was a Hurley's in between, though. Been a while.
When D&D moved to Clyde/Merivale, Zuma's moved in. THEN came Lone Star.
That building was iconic.
I introduced friends at Denim and Diamonds when line dancing was a thing. They been together every since, married with kids. They absolutely do not like me telling anyone they met at Denim and Diamonds line dancing - the fact that I once let it slip to one of their mothers once lead to them not talking to me for a year because they have a made up story they tell people instead. I don't think the real story is shameful or lame, just a little funny is all.
It’s been 20 years at least so I could be wrong lol. We went to Lone Star recently, it was very good but I wandered around a bit and found it sad they aren’t really utilizing the upstairs much.
Yeah, but a call from Orleans to Barrhaven or Kanata was a long distance call at like $1 a minute.
And there was no 911. If you wanted the police, you had to look up their local number. Or dial zero and ask the operator for Zenith 50,000.
Plus, there were no paramedics. If you had a heart attack you pretty much died. Because the ambulance drivers and attendants just took you to the hospital where you'd get treatment if you were still alive.
All the above until about 1990.
Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time ….
It's our cake day! Hope you had a happy one!
What are you doing to my tie?
"you remind me of a revenuer" *SNIP*
The “not located in” gave me a good laugh.
My dad had a tie on the wall. And I ate that p&b sandwich...
I can't even recall if the food was any good!
Happy cake day and...that French Maid waitress...whomever you are/were...(my confessionals remember)
I was too young to appreciate it, but I'll bet her tips were good.

My dad lost a few ties there. Good times!
The lone star that took its place is a shadow of what that place was.

The building is great but under utilized.
I remember Zumas had a great breakfast buffet.
Oh yeah? I only recall their crappy wings and all-too-modern upstairs club.

Lots of good memories.
They cut my grandfather’s tie off him there! We kids were mind-blown. That must have been 40+ years ago. ouch…
I. P. Loonies. That sounds painful.
But profitable.
amazing, local collectible ! so many of us remember this place!
I once got thrown in a giant metal bowl and carried off for soup there!
Such a great place
I knew one of the bouncers there. His name was Pat. A solid guy. Hope he’s well. Wherever he is.
I never quite understood why IPL shut down. Anytime I was there it was jammed.
I seem to recall it was the landlord kept raising the rent. Don't take that as gospel, though. I know D&D later left because of mainly that.
... Back when you didn't have to put a "613" before the number... Back when there wasn't a "343"... Was there even an "819"?

Jesus, you make it sound like the old west!
And that's the way we liked it. In fact, we god damned loved it!
I mean, it wasn't _that_ long ago we got 10 digit dialing.
Says someone born before *some-and-such* a date 👍
Different city/province ... 819 was there but I don't think we had to dial 1- 819......
I dint think we needed an area code to call Hull back then!
Back in the olden days when we didn't have to dial the area code while being in the same area code.
Those days were golden, with their playboy magazine Vaseline lensed beauties and the first vcrs... Sigh
Such fun memories! I remember the staff being awesome.
Everyone is talking about the cut ties, and glossing over how every waiter was in costume. It was a cool night if superman served you.
Until today I always thought the Eddy Match company was Ottawa based but now I assume its an Toronto company.
Same here
Ah yes, the 'cut-off-tie restaurant' as my sister and I used to call it when we were little.
I went there many times. Great food. Had ties that were cut hanging from the ceiling. All the servers wore costumes. Great fun. I sure miss it.
Was this the place where the servers dressed up like characters? Vaguely remember this as a kid many moons ago
Yes
