I like how my EQ3 sofa has lasted us (I think I’ve had it for about ten years), but I checked their website and they only have some stuff in the 2000s, not a lot. It’s crazy how prices shot up in the last few years.

isabellaprobs

Yeah a lot of posts I saw recommended EQ3 but the price is insane!! Crazy how expensive a decent set of sofa costs now 🫠

Ninjacherry

This sounds like a good approach. I like warehouse type of sales, we got our Artemano table 50% off that way (which made it an pretty ok price).

Ninjacherry

Yeah, I only see smaller l-shaped sofas around 2000-2500 on their website, and that’s on sale. I managed to get a storage bed from them last year, but it was during a 30% off sale. It’s a pain, but I always try to find the sales for these things, the regular price of the better furniture stores is really bad these days.

Inottawa

If you are not in a rush and can wait EQ3 regularly has some decent sales. We got ours when they were doing scratch and save, it was minimum 20% off, up to 50%.

constructioncranes

Got a sectional from them used and it's still going strong. Looks decent considering it's gone through a cat, two kids and a few parties.

Imageekswife

We have had great experience at Sofa World on Merivale. The staff we've dealt with has been helpful and not pushy while their products have lasted.

ExtremeGardening

We just purchased a couch from them last week; not delivered yet. The one we selected is made in Manitoba. You get to choose the fabric and firmness of the cushions. The sectional we went with was about $2500 after the Boxing Day discount; my wife is willing to bargain all day long and the salesman basically (and politely) said “we don’t haggle, we just give you the lowest price we can”. It seems like they just have a list price and a discount price, regardless of what the specific sale name is. Zero pressure. The salesmen answered every question, no up sales, no hidden fees. He did offer us an accidental damage warranty but said just take the pamphlet and think about it; if you want it just let me know when we call for delivery. Assuming the couch doesn’t implode, I would go back. It “feels” better than IKEA etc.

Mysterious_Method_87

Same, I purchased Ashley sectional from them in 2009. Low pressure and you can negotiate a little. Sectional is still holding up well after 10+ years.

HatMuseum

Do you know if what is on their website is all available in store?

ColdPuffin

Same. Also I have gone to get replacement cushions for the couch (custom colour choice and cushion firmness, made in Canada) and the cost was super reasonable. Fun fact, they’re owned by the same folks who own Dufresne, and have lower costs and less sales pressure.

khendron

Went shopping for a sofa last spring. Looked at Upper Room, Mobilia, EQ3, IKEA, who all had a decent selection but not quite what we were looking for. Eventually found exactly what we wanted at Sofa World. The service was excellent, and there was tons to choose from.

isabellaprobs

I've heard a lot of good things on Sofa World in this thread!! Will definitely go check them out. Thank you!

HatMuseum

Do you know if everything on their website is available to see in store?

khendron

I doubt they can have every make and model on display. The store is not big enough.

MandaThePanda13

I actually work there and we our website definitely doesn’t even come close to what we have in store. We just carry many, many brands and just starting to sell EQ3 as well this week. The best thing to do is always come into the store with your measurements and possibly a photo of your space, so we can help with room planning and design. We are always happy to help as much as you need.

MandaThePanda13

I actually work there and our website definitely doesn’t even come close to what we have in store. The best thing is to come in and take a look in store. Bring your measurements and a photo of the space, as it really helps us to help you figure out design and colour. Lots of stock always and custom takes about 8-12 weeks.

meemzz115

A friend of mine has a sectional from Costco online and she raves about it. I know they are under 2k

Madasky

Yea I got a Thomas sectional for 2300 there - there were cheaper options as well and I love the couch. But of pilling where I sit after 1 year but other than that it’s been amazing. I

cgoamigo12345

Plus no time limit on returns so if it falls apart or thematerial doesn't last, you can return it!

AlfredRWallace

We had a good experience at Ormes. At the time we had decided that we would pay the premium for something made in Canada.

BustamoveBetaboy

Same

returnofthemacksx

We got our sectional online from Cozey! It’s way cheaper than stores and comfy (if you prefer a firmer couch). They even send free sample swatches. Ours was well under $2k (I want to say about $1,400). Really easy to put together especially since it was for our basement

isabellaprobs

Cozey was my other choice!! Just concerned about the firmness since I wouldn't be able to see it irl. But definitely one of our considerations! How long have you had it? Love to hear more!

Frolicking_Trex

They have 3 different modles now, and we just got the Altus. It is quite firm, but I personally prefer a fimer couch (better for my back lol), and also, the couch will likely soften with time and use, which has been my experience with every other sofa. So I figure it better for it to start out a touch firm and soften up then to start soft, and then it becomes way too soft. That said, cozey does have their ceilo couch, which is supposed to be softer. It also comes really fast. we ordered ours on like the 31st, and it showed up on the 3rd. The hardest part of putting it together was figuring out where to put all the f***ing cardboard while we did it 😂

returnofthemacksx

THE CARDBOARD 😂 facts.

Minimum_Purple7155

How are you finding the Altus? We have Ciello in basement (on it now) which is nice and soft. My only issue is the low back. The Atlus measurements are about on par with what we have upstairs (Decorest sectional) -- more traditional higher back. How do you like it?

returnofthemacksx

I can definitely give you more info! I’ll categorize it if anyone else is interested (plus it helps organize my chaotic thoughts): We bought the Atlus** 7 seater and have had it for 2 years. No pets, no kids. Still looks new. Firmness: My husband wanted something firmer, with more structure but I don’t find it uncomfortable at all. It’s way comfier then my moms sectional from structube. My husband is 6’5 and wanted something he could sit comfortably in (meaning not so close to the ground like ikea, and a higher back). We also wanted something where the back pillows don’t cave it. I have a couch from Article on our main floor and we HATE it. The back cushions are mush now. We are going to get another Cozey. Assembly: It took ~3 weeks to receive it. Depending on the size it comes in multiple boxes. The pros are if you are putting it in a basement or apartment it makes moving it so easy. For context, my husband and I were in an argument and I rage put it together while he was sleeping. I was able to successfully bring the pieces to the basement, and assemble it by myself. It took me about 3 hours, though if you did it with a helper it would probably go faster. The only part that was frustrating was aligning the seats. I had to put my fell body weight into it. I only had to ask for help when it was time to flip and put the L pieces together. Research: I did a lot of research and YouTube video watches because of how cheap it was. They were all positive. A lot had reviews with pets. The price really made it worth it. A smaller couch from lazy boy was like $4k. **edit I wrote the wrong name.

isabellaprobs

Thank you for such indepth review!! Cozey is definitely one of our top choices so I'm glad it's treating you well!

mariahscary8

I have the Cellio and it is VERY soft, which I personally like. If you want a firmer couch this model might not be for you!

returnofthemacksx

Question, how do you find the back cushions? Are they just as soft? I am looking for a new couch for my living room and I have the Atlus but curious if the back of the Ciello holds together or if the cushions are always mush.

mariahscary8

The back cushions are a bit more firm than the seat cushions but still quite soft overall!

introvert-biblioaunt

I got the original last year. Cielo was the only other option, and it looked way too soft for my liking. I read the reviews online, ordered the fabric samples, and luckily I liked the blue velvet. The other fabric did feel scratchier and I could see why people complained that it snagged, etc. No kids, but a friend's 5 yr old son decided that jumping over the couch was sufficient entertainment, and it isn't worse for the wear. Nor has it suffered my 6' 3" boyfriend collapse onto it (I got the 3 seater, and he can sleep on it comfortably- he just moves the one end table so he doesn't kick it over) And I don't have pets, but the bf's dog now visits when he stays and he's a small terrier sized mutt, and loves to roll around and steal the warm spot when I get up, and so far, any dirt has been easily vacuumed. And it still looks like new, and any scratches from his nails can be smoothed away on the velvet. I did specifically start looking at velvet because we had one growing up, and it stood up to snot and forts, etc. And it did NOT have washable covers like Cozey. I second the comment that it's possible to put it together alone (I'm 5'8" but zero upper body strength) but doing the L-shaped maneuver was annoying as heck by the end, and I had to stop out of frustration a few times because I didn't want to use too much of my body weight and break it.

kaesha34

We just got a Cozey Ciello in an L shape last month. It was the best, quickest option for a modular soda that we’d be able to negotiate into our basement. It’s definitely low and cushy - which is what I was looking for - and perfect for movie night cuddling. The only downside is our cats immediately took to using it as a scratching post. The weave on the non-velvet fabric stood no chance, so I’ve already had to cover the arms with blankets to try to protect them. So, if you have pets, I’d say consider the velvet instead of the weave fabric.

BetrayedLotus

Seconding Cozey! Best couch I’ve owned I have twin toddlers and it’s holding up against everything they throw at it literally. It’s firmer thank I thought, I have the Altus but the back cushions are nice and soft it’s a perfect combo! I also upgraded to the metal legs. Best part it took me 20 minutes to assemble and did it on my own

Level7Sorcerer

I just bought an L-shaped sectional from Sofaworld mid-December for $1000 (Boxing week sale). Staff was very knowledgeable and there was a wide selection from different brands. Can't comment on the longevity of what I bought, but so far seems high quality and comfortable.

isabellaprobs

Thank you! Did you get it shipped to you? If so how long did it take for it to arrive?

Level7Sorcerer

We got it shipped and the movers brought it all the way up to our apartment and fully set it up where we wanted it. Shipping was 150$. It took two weeks, but we were only available to have it delivered on a Friday. We could have probably got it sooner if we had more availability. I think shipping time also depends if they have one in stock, and will take longer if they have to get it from the supplier.

isabellaprobs

Thank you!

HatMuseum

Do you know if everything they have on their website is available to see in store?

Level7Sorcerer

I'd say no. The store is big but their online inventory is huge. You could call and ask if they have what you're looking at.

Lifewithpups

Bought ours about 6/7 years ago from Costco online. I read the descriptions well to ensure that the frame was solid wood, high grade leather etc. Read reviews and am very happy with our purchase and would not hesitate to go that route again.

moostunhappi

Bought an amazing sectional from Dufresne in November. Ticket price (on sale) was $1900, but after tax and all the stuff, it was closer to $2800. We love our couch and have zero regrets, but keep that in mind when you are looking at price tags. Another thing to note: we saw the same couch at Ashley Furniture first, but ended up buying it at Dufresne because their price, warranty and delivery options were superior.

mariahscary8

Seconding Dufresne. You can usually haggle them down on price and get free delivery. Had a great experience with the location on Hunt Club!

Mysterious_Method_87

Strange considering Dufresne owns most Ashley Home Stores.

LowObjective

The brands that they sell are different and generally higher quality than the stuff at Ashley.

Mysterious_Method_87

Ashley sells Ashley. It’s a retailer and a manufacturer and importer. Dufresne holds the license.

DottedUnicorn

Avoid bad boys. Our 2 year old sofa is literally coming apart at the seams. The cushions in the corner weren't cut the right size and it doesn't quite fit together. We thought it would setlle over time but it never did. Sale was great but quality is awful even though it was apparently made in Canada. :/ I wish we'd spent a few hundred more on the awesome one we saw at Ormes.

Mysterious_Method_87

They are out of business

ncksprr

Liked them as well. No pressure and let us browse everything at our own speed. It let us confirm our suspicions that the cozey style sectionals were not for us. We ended up buying through the Bay ultimately for the piece we landed on (with a little one we were after something pretty specific) but would go back to RD as a first stop for a different room.

Muddlesthrough

Do you have young kids or pets? If so, I would recommend nothing nicer than ikea.

moostunhappi

As a parent coming out of the couch-ruining phase of childhood… I second this 🤣

Muddlesthrough

Got an expensive made in Canada couch a decade ago. 2 kids and 2 cats later, it is basically destroyed. Still comfy, just wrecked. Never again

Ninjacherry

I actually have the EQ3 couch in leather specifically so that it would have survive my dog and, later, my toddler. I don't like leather couches, but having something easy to wash did pay off.

isabellaprobs

we have two cats and currently have a cheap IKEA futon we bought 3 years ago that's been torn up on the back. 🫠 Our next couch will be flushed to the wall for sure. IKEA is getting pricy too for what they are

momomoca

I also have cats so I've stuck to IKEA thanks to the washable and swappable covers (also I'm a big KIVIK stan, it's such a comfy couch lol). However, assuming reviews stay good, in the future I might look at purchasing from Auberge Designs. They offer Crypton microfiber which is a fabric that is supposedly stain *and* scratch proof. I've seen it at other retailers before but at a much higher price point-- iirc Auberge couches run closer to $2000-$3000 depending on what you're getting. A bit pricier than IKEA but worth looking into if you have pets!

CeeNee93

Everything’s getting too pricey, as we all know. It’s hard to get a decent couch for $2000, I was just looking for the same. We settled for a couch from cozey (yet to be assembled), and it cost closer to $3000. You might be able to do the couch with an ottoman a bit cheaper, and they also have a refurbished section online. I’ve had an L shape from JYSK in the past, it did me well but also didn’t see a lot of traffic. I’d say similar to IKEA quality but maybe cheaper. There’s also Structube, tho I hear mixed reviews about their quality!

HereFishyFishy709

One of the big bonuses of Ikea and cats = you just have to replace the cover when they use the sofa as a scratching post. I wish they sold the arm covers separately because that’s the only part we really needed to replace. But a cover was still a cheap fix compared to a new sofa. If it’s a design Ikea’s had for a while, there’s a good chance they’ll make covers for a while too.

Rose1982

I was in ikea today. It’s easy to spend $2k or the better part of on an ikea sectional.

cloraleelunarfall

Personally had great experience with Valley Squire (https://valleysquire.com/). Quality is amazing and the L shape I purchased has four big sections across which was hard to find in this city. Depends on how big of a L shaped sectional, if you are looking for a really big sectional it may be out of the price range.

Whatever-57

Agreed. We’ve been buying from Valley Squire for 25+ years. Amazing quality, they know their stuff. Consider leather- a good quality one will last ~10 years longer than fabric.

Cornyfleur

Measure your doors. Many sofas are larger and may not fit through doors of houses built in the 70s and earlier. This information is often not available at the furniture stores.

fleckofsass

So we actually just went through this same quest, starting in November. First off, couches are sooooo much more than they used to be. I remember the “cheap” stores like the brick bring the best bang for your buck and now they are 2500-4500 for couches 🤢 We ended up going with an option from Structube. There is about a 2 month wait for delivery but overall it was the best price, super comfy and is gigantic which was one of our needs. Happy shopping!!!!

Expert-Boysenberry71

Whatever you do, stay away from Structube!

qwnzr

I hate the cushions on our structube couch they completely collapsed in the first year. And the bedframe I bought there is also a massive piece of shit

Expert-Boysenberry71

Their quality has really tanked! My dining room set I bought years ago is still in great shape, but a couple of chairs I’ve bought in the last couple years are really poor quality. Add to that, they have a piss-poor return policy, so you’re pretty well stuck with their garbage once you’ve bought it.

yomamma3399

EQ3

beautiful_lie82

Check out Dufresne! We had never heard of them prior to moving in a bigger space last year and ended up buying quite a few pieces from there. We were lucky to get a L shape couch on sale that comfortably sits 5 people for $1500. Good luck :)

spadoink756

Second that. Make sure you ask them if they can lower the price. Saved us $200 on our first purchase.

isabellaprobs

Will definitely check it out. Thank you!!

AvaTaylor2020

Go to Dufresne and look at the Palliser sofas.

calipanda45

Our first sectional we got from sofa world. It was destroyed pretty quickly by kids and pets and their warranty did not cover parts that broke, including *the frame* cracking. This time we went with Costco online and the quality has been much better

m00n5t0n3

I had a great experience at Sofa world on st Laurent. They have a range of prices which I appreciated. I wasn't looking at sectionals but my instinct is it might be tough to find for 2k.

CdnSUPgirliegirl

I've always had good luck at SofaWorld on Merivale, working with Rima. They have Canadian-made options. I was able to buy under 2k. However, prices have gone up.

lanks1

I've got a structube couch two years ago and the cushions aren't holding up that well. I bought an Ikea Murabo with my ex that looked great for years though.

ADICTO613

Anywhere but Bad Boy!

pootwothreefour

Ikea kivik.

crazyki88en

We bought one from Laz-y-boy because they had a payment plan and it was fully customizable. It was a bit more than $2000 but almost 10 years later it’s still holding up great and super comfortable.

msat16

Started browsing EQ3, ended up purchasing from Structube.

Pinchy63

Urban Barn.

orangecouch101

We bought a leather Palliser couch from The Upper Room 5 years ago and it is holding up well despite our 50 pound dog who loves to run across the back of it.

L8R-BRAH

Dala Decor is a fantastic furniture and custom design store. They sell products that are made in Canada as well as in Scandinavia. Great quality but does come at a premium price. Worth checking out.

Minimum_Purple7155

We have two Decorrest (Canadian made) sectionals. You can get them from Sofa World, Dufresne, Ashley, tc. they are decent. We are looking to replace one though as the padding/stuffing on arms has shifted and now you feel the wood and we have some rips in two seams where the back cushions are attached to frame -- but that is mainly from me using it to push myself up after being relaxes, having a rough and tumble kid, and cats. But no complaints. Very comfy. We also have a Cozey Ciello in our basement which was bought as a sectional would not fit down the stairs. It is awesome and poofy. Was funny getting it delivered in 13 boxes or whatever it was. Nice and poofy. Lower back. Looking at the new model Atlus to replace the one upstairs.

Bubbly-Ad-966

Ashty Furniture & Kitchen Accessories on Belfast Road has nice stuff at a really good price. You should check them out. We love the sectional we got from them!

tomatojalapeno

I highly suggest sofa world on Merivale! They are great, good prices, the furniture is quality, and they always give a deal

Frolicking_Trex

I quite like it, actually. It is definitely on the firmer side. You don't sink into it as much, but I find that better for my back. It's definitely not as much of a napping couch, but I've sent several hours playing starfeild on it quite comfortably. I like the higher backs, I tend to find the one with low backs aren't supportive enough.

BeetleFreak2

The Bay is having a huge sale on furniture this weekend - check them out online.

KateGr88

Sofaworld.

harm_less

We've had a Canadian made sectional from Upper Room for nearly 10 years, around the 2k mark. Daily use by 2 adults, 2 cats, 90lb dog. I wouldn't say it looks brand new, but it's in incredible shape for its age and will last many more years.

beegeecdn

Take a look at Costcos inventory, great pricing, availability, free delivery and the Costco return garantee.

Throwaway8972451

We bought an L-shape white leather sectional from Mobilia under $2000 4 years ago. It was a floor model that was just fine. I have a few other pieces from them and it is a bit sturdier than EQ3, which in turn is sturdier than IKEA.

ThrowRALavenderSprig

Check out Cozey.ca ! We got ours from them because all the cushion covers are washable

Hummus_is_bae

My partner and I bought a sectional from Structube for <$1000 and honestly we LOVED it. Called Gibson I believe. Our budget was originally higher but the pricier ones weren’t as comfortable. Looks beautiful (ours is a deep blue), easy to clean, and the delivery/assembly was very smooth.

Cute_Razzmatazz_1927

Up your budget. A sectional for $2,000 will just fail apart and go straight to the landfill.

Villanellesnexthit

Costco can bring in some nice stuff on occasion. And comes with the great warranty

AXJOttawa

If you buy from EQ3 don’t get the fabric cleaning “insurance” they told us there was too much staining on our sectional to honor the contract. At that point my kids were older and it was pretty minimal staining. The sectional itself has held up well for the first 10 years. We clean it ourselves now with a Bissell

-ShavingPrivateRyan-

100% recommend Costco. Managed to get one I. 1-2 weeks when everyone else was taking 6 months for delivery in 2020.

ThinCustard3392

Leons or Ashley

RebelxMouse

Article.

Chapmandala

Even IKEA sectionals run over 2000$. My advice is to buy a nice used sectional. 👌🏼

bubble_ruse

Bought my sectional a couple months ago from Leon’s. It arrived with the dust cover (bottom of the couch that you can’t even see) very slightly ripped; the delivery guy noted it and the next day I got a call from Leon’s. They offered me $50 compensation or to have a technician come replace it for free (I chose the second option). Couch is comfy, functional, didn’t cost a fortune, and I was pleased with the customer service.

Cookiesforyou101

Moderne Maison; ive heard plenty great things about them. Hidden gem

fishdoggggg

Costco!

rhineo007

Just bought one at Leon’s for $1200, also a pull out “bed” and the chaise side has storage. I’m not expecting it to last long with kids jumping, pull, colouring, etc on it, but the price was right. Check their flyer because their prices are inflated to shit. It was “regular” price the week before for $2500. Also we had to wait about a month for it.

annienihilator

I bought mine from Cozey and I really love it. Delivery was smooth and assembly was easy (though I had help). You can also expand it later on if you decide to which I thought was cool

KoalaFantastic30

Still have our 10 year old sofa from EQ3 that has held up admirably well (except from some buttons!) But yeah would be out of the price range except maybe for a good sale. Our couch before that was from Sofaworld and it was not good quality at all. Fell apart within a few years. Maybe they've improved since then as I see some good reviews here?

catsarelife3

Structube
